This is a zombie apocalypse with a hint of those blue Ice Planet Barbians.

Book 2 begins right where the last one left off. Mya's world is overrun by hellhounds and a zombie plague. She follows Drav to Ernisi, an underground Atlantis that is also his home. Mya discovers that the shadowy demons responsible for the chaos above are not what they appear to be.

Mya is smart and beautiful and alive. That is all that matters.

Drav’s English has come along way since listening to those romance audiobooks!

Post apocalyptic
Zombies
Hellhounds
Light on romance
Cliffhanger

Trapped in this hidden world, Mya soon falls ill, forcing Drav to make a heart-wrenching choice between her and his people. Mya (22) doesn’t always listen and that’s super annoying, but she’s young.

I like this book better than the first, the characters are really coming together. However, the series would have been better had each book been longer.

* Dara Rosenberg is a good narrator if you plan to listen to this series.
** I still wonder what happened to the poor cat in the first book.

Synopsis:

As hellhounds continue to roam and the zombie plague spreads, Drav leads Mya to the source of her troubles- Ernisi, an underground Atlantis and Drav’s home. There May learns that the shadowy demons, who’ve helped devastate her world, are not what they seem.

Trapped in Ernisi, Mya tries to convince Drav to return her to the surface so she can continue her search for her family. However, he’s determined to keep her where he knows she’ll be safe. When Mya falls ill, Drav must choose between her and his people.

‘“Drav, I need to call my family. I need to let them know I’m safe.”
His hands slid from my cheeks to the back of my head.
“I need to know you’re safe too.” The look in his eyes made my heart stutter for a moment, as did the way he gently trailed his fingers down the side of my neck.’

‘“I thought beauty meant the way the crystals lit the water in the caverns or the way the inuchu flower blooms on the dark,” he said, drawing my attention. “But I was wrong. Beauty is seeing the soft look of concentration on your face as you touch me. It is seeing your peaceful face and parted lips as you sleep beside me. It is the look in your eyes when you search for me as soon as you wake.”’

‘“Maybe you should focus on running instead of me.”
“I’m always focused on you, Mya. Especially when I’m running with you in my arms. I like the way you jiggle.”
My mouth dropped open.
“I do not jiggle,” I said indignantly.
He took off, sprinting down the trail, and his gaze dipped to my chest. I followed the direction of his focus and rolled my eyes at the sight of my ever so slightly bouncing boobs.
“That is barely a jiggle. You made me sound like a bowl of Jell-O.”
“I think I might enjoy Jell-I.”
I snorted. “Probably.”’

‘“Magic did not die in your world because you still live,” he whispered against my hair.’

Though the new setting was initially interesting the lack of action, general story and romance development made this book less exciting than the first.

Fingers crossed things pick back up again in the last book.

2.5. The heroine annoyed the crap out of me in this one. I wanted Drav to just throw her in a ravine or let something eat her.

This really is an amazing series. I enjoy the pace the story has set.

In this book we find out just what exactly Drav is and I must admit I am shocked because I did not see that coming, although it kind of makes sense. I found the take on Fey was quite interesting.

I am still not sure how they caused the end of the world. I hope that is explained in the last book which I am going to read right away.

THIS WAS SUCH A GREAT SEQUEL!

Let me tell you, I was a little harsh on the first book of the series, Demon Ember. It was okay, but I wasn't wowed by it as I was accustomed to being with MJ/ Melissa Haag's books as well as Becca Vincenza. However, when you coauthor a book, there is bound to be some hiccups, right? Well, the good news is that Demon Flames was a vast improvement in many aspects, and I couldn't be happier.

Getting into some specifics, the plot was loads more interesting. The last book had this pattern where Drav and Mya would travel by night, sleep by day, Drav would cop a feel in the middle of the night, she would make him food and fight for privacy in the bathroom, etc. This sequel did not have that drag of a pattern that felt a little boring and predictable. Instead, we are brought to a whole new world, Drav's world. We learn about his history in a fascinating and unique way that I hadn't anticipated. The ONE draw back for me, and the only reason I am not giving this 5 stars, is that I am still a little confused by the novel's end game. We get a few tidbits about who the real antagonists are going to be, which up until this point we were mostly left in the dark, but I still strongly feel that the series is a little too focused on the individuals and the relationships rather than advancing the plot to it's fullest potential. It did drag a TAD in some areas, namely the entrance into Drav's world, the spatting between Mya and Drav just starting to touch on repetitive before it gets interesting again. But I can easily over look this, it is extraordinarily hard to make a journey interesting 100% of the time in a novel, especially when you are introducing a new world and have to fill the pages with new information.

SAYING THAT! The relationship and character development was out of this world amazing. We fell in love with Drav in Demon Embers, but boy do you fall head over heels for him in Demon Flames. What MJ and Becca explore with his character is amazing! We finally get to understand why he is so violent at times (something both I and Mya had stocked up to him being a Demon- or whatever race he is - in the past). We get to see this vast emotional aspect to him, we get to understand who he is to his people, and we get to experience him in the setting of his life pre-zombie. What is amazing about this is that both the reader and the main character, Mya, go on this journey of understanding Drav together. Up until this point he had been mostly an enigma, something that we had to fill in the gaps for to understand the puzzle that is Drav. Only to find out we not only put pieces in the wrong places, but actually took some pieces from a completely different puzzle! (is that metaphor too much? I think you get it). And we (being both the reader and Mya) start to understand Drav more, the relationship between them is able to develop more, and well... you'll have to read the rest to find out how that goes ;)

Lastly, I just want to note that the writing, while still great in Demon Ember, improved with the sequel as well. It flowed better, it was worded better, it was just better in every way and completely up to the standard I hold both these authors by. I think that as a duo, they are really figuring out their flow and how to work together in the best way to make an amazing story.

All in all 4.5 stars (which I have translated to 4 because GR wont let me give halves) for Demon Flames. I am very much looking forward to the next instalment of this series!

I feel like I'm being coned to spend my money on a second book. Not that this is bad, but at 80% the ending was so obvious! Review to come and I'm bringing out the bigs guns! Not literally of course...

Wow oh wow! This second addition to the Resurrection Chronicles has absolutely taken my breath away. Now I’m dying to get to the final installment!

Lost and parted from her family and world, Mya is forced to try to adapt to Drav’s world when he brings her to Ernisi in an attempt to keep her safe. He may not know what he’s done, but Mya does, and she’s determined to fight until she can return to the surface in the search for her family. However, she must also combat her growing feelings for the man who betrayed her, and she must find it in herself to trust him again if she has a hope of making it back to the surface. Before it’s too late.

I was completely captivated by Demon Ash, and by the growing romance between Drav and Mya. I freaking LOVE those two! They give me such joy and endless laughter. I was taking that journey right alongside the both of them, and I can hardly wait to continue on with them through the trials they are about to face.

I highly recommend this series to those who enjoy a little sci-fi, dystopian, adventurous read. You will not regret picking up this series!

Amazing. Couldn't put it down. This second installment is a little more advanced, the two main character coming more closer together then ever. Although there is more romance then in this first book it still gives the fibes and excitement i really enjoy reading. Of Course i hope more on the romance department will follow.

I am not sure how i feel about it that there are only three books. Great to know we are heading to the ending.... NOT so great ... I am power reading this series and i need to slow down... This is going to fast only ONE Book left... iekkkkkkkk.

Because the third installment is already on Amazon I thought it was already published. Wrong. December... Pff long wait but I am sure it is worth it :) The third installment is high on my to read list for our next series review on our site. This is an amazing paranormal romance I like to recommend to my friends and readers. ... Till soon :)

Too much peeing and complaining

Too my much peeing and complaining in this book for more thAn 3 stars. Story is great but it gets annoying how they seem to constantly have to go pee and May is always repeating herself about wanting to see her family. She is awfully selfish in her wants and suffering with a lack of consideration for the fae. I hope next book will be better cause I do love the storyline.

~ This is a review of the first 3 books in the Resurrection Chronicles: Demon Ember, Demon Flames and Demon Ash ~

It isn’t just Mya’s world that’s falling, it’s everyone’s. The arrival of the seemingly unkillable red-eyed hounds whose bite turns people into mindless zombies has driven humanity into a post apocalyptic world. No one is safe, especially in the dark. Mya is doing her best to survive and reach Oklahoma city and her family when a new monster attacks her and her companions. He looks like a man…if a human man had grey skin, pointed ears, sharp teeth and was 7ft tall. But, he spares Mya’s life and now seems content to follow her and protect her from the dangers of this new post-apocalyptic world.

It may seem like I am being lazy reviewing 3 books in 1 review; however, each book continues seamlessly on from where the previous one ended. In fact, when I think about it, I can’t really remember which events happen in each book it’s all merged together as we watch the post apocalyptic paranormal romance love story unfold between Mya and Drav. Another reason why they merged together? I couldn’t put them down. As soon as I finished one I was straight on to Amazon getting the next one. I was addicted.

For anyone who is a fan of Sandra Neeley’s Whispers from the Bayou series or Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians series (which FYI makes a cameo in these books!) then I know you will love these. They have the same type of hero; barbarian in appearance, a little primitive and strangely innocent with a heart like a marshmallow – all soft and sweet. Basically, my favourite kind of hero. Which, is why I loved Drav, but I warn you to be patient with some of his more… violent actions -never against the heroine – won’t make sense until you are further along.

Mya is a college student who gets chucked into the deep end. Although I liked her, it did take me a while to warm to her. I think I was too busy swooning over Drav. However, this is one of the reasons that although this is a recommended read, that I didn’t rate it a 4 or 5 stars. I have to fall in love with both the hero and heroine for it to rate that highly. But, I did love Drav and the idea behind this series. These books set up a dangerous new world where if the zombies don’t get you, the hellhounds will. And, if you survive that you then need to be wary of the other surviving humans as well. It’s an exciting read.

This is a great start to this paranormal romance series and I am dying to get my hands on the next book.

2 generous ***

I didn't care for the h in the first book of this series but it's getting over 4 *** so I thought I might be missing something or perhaps it gets better. The books are very short so I gave Demon Flames (Resurrection Chronicles, #2) by M.J. Haag a go. The government is bombing all the cities, infected zombies are stumbling all over the place, hellhounds are still out there looking for people to infect. The H, Drav is doing all he can to keep the h, (using the term loosely) Mya safe. All the whiny, immature twat thinks of is herself and getting to her family. I hung in to learn more about Drav's people but it's not enough to put up with a tstl h. I can't believe how high some people have been rating this series. It could have been a big winner with a stronger heroine who has more than two IQ points to rub together. Mya ruins everything with her constant complaining.

Sadly, this one couldn't hold up for me compared to the other books in the series I've read so far.

I think my biggest issue was the attempt at world building. Almost the whole first half of the book had the characters walking through the cave and inserting pages over pages with flashback to establish the fey's history... that just didn't work for me and got me bored quickly, as I was looking for some progression in the story.
I assume that orginally the series was intended only a s trilogy, only following Mya's and Drav's story and later extended to more couples... and I kinda felt it? This book felt very much like the middle installment that dragged on and felt overall partly unnecessary.

Macro plot wise not a lot happened and dragged too much for my tasting but I will definitely pick up the next book and see the finale to Mya's journey.

This second book had some longish parts, but overall I still liked it ! The bond between Drav et Mya really grew and we got to learn more about the fey.

The romance was still quite slow burn, with almost no spice. For in depth review, please read my thoughts on book 1 !

3.5 stars — While I still had a bit of a mixed reaction to this one, I really can’t deny how compelled I am to devour more and more…

I will say that Ms. Rosenberg’s voice grew on me. It’s amazing sometimes how you can adjust and your opinions can change. Part of that is I still absolutely adore her voice for Drav.

Just like in book 1, I felt like the plot was drawn out, and the pacing wasn’t as great. Our MC’s spent like 1/2 the book running in caves, repeat ad nauseum. I get that they’re trying to show how vast the cave systems are, but it got a bit tiring.

I think I liked Mya even less in this one. She was kind of super bitchy a bunch of times. I was actually embarrassed by her entitled attitude and her complete lack of even trying to understand/empathize with Drav’s people. Her empathy would come at the very last minute, when everything was explained. I actually experienced second hand embarrassment from some of the things she did and ways she reacted. She had quite a few over the top moments.

But in contrast, I loved the development of the relationship between Mya and Drav. I truly believed the development of feelings. I felt so much for Drav, who is drawn to her, and doesn’t understand his feelings, and doesn’t know what to do with them. I appreciated the times where he just didn’t know what he was doing wrong because he doesn’t understand human sensibilities. The chemistry between them was off the charts. I don’t even mind that Drav may not be attracted to her personality as much as the idea of a companion and his attachment to her. She has her good points, but she’s a bit of a bully sometimes. But it works for them because it’s not a normal human relationship. If this was a contemp, I would be super annoyed about what Drav is in love with, and his possessiveness.

All in all, I’m super curious how things are going to progress from here, so of course I started the next book after midnight. *rolls eyes*

These books are pretty short, like a slightly beefier novella. I'm enjoying them, but one of the main things that irk me are the side characters. They have no flavor, and no personality. They are just flat and always there. This entire book the two main characters almost never get any alone time, and are constantly surrounded by others. So you'd think we'd get to know a few of them right? I mean the author does introduce us to like 2 of them but even then they are all just blobs of gray surrounding the fully realized two main characters.

I'll be getting the next book because I'm already in this, but having to pay for these hurts a little because I know I'm never going to reread them. I've been far too spoiled with kindle unlimited allowing me to read so many amazing books for free and then returning them, that when I get to a series I'm kinda interested in/like, but I also have to pay for it Im like "mehhhhh, okay I guess"

“This new world scared me less with him at my side.”

In the second book of the Resurrection chronicles we venture a little deeper into Drav's world and I liked that. We got to learn the history of his people and how they came to occupy this scary world of theirs and how it all connects with Mya's world. And we find out where the hounds came from, though I'm still not sure how the gate between the worlds ended up being open again. Drav's kind sort of reminds me of the aliens from the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Not the Luxen, the other race - Arum, who were like shadows and stuff.
I really like where this story is going and I became seriously attached to the characters. Hope the next book comes out soon, I can't wait to see what happens next.

This series is awesome, and I love how they jump right into the story without all the reviewing of what happened in the last book, BRAVO! One of my major pet peeves, why waste valuable book real estate for a recap? They just need to read the previous book :)
Love the characters, how the men are learning the "rules" and how Mya can be strong and unafraid to be her own person. I do think all the time spent underground was interesting but why did they have to run for days? Those parts dragged slightly. Maybe it was to give Mya and Drav time to build a relationship. It worked!

I'm not sure what to do with this series. I really like the author and the world she's building. Drav's ppl are interesting and I'm eager to learn more about them BUT Mya is annoying beyond words. I understood in the first book because she was scared. In this one she is just disrespectful, completely selfish and unapologetic for her mistakes. There better be some serious growth on in the next book. I am reserving my rating until then

A great addition to the series.

This going to be short. I have to go buy the next book and find out what happens next.

Great characters. Excellent world building great plot seems a little far fetched at times but not too bad.

Well written.

You absolutely have to read book one. Worth every penny.

I just absolutely love the Mya and Drav dynamic sooo much it's ridiculous! I've never really liked apocalyptic genres but this is just such a fresh take that I just cannot get enough. And of course there is a huge cliffhanger that I have to wait forever for! I can't wait to read what happens next!
