In a word: Intense

I honestly didn't have many expectations when I started reading this book, but it ended up being a much deeper story than I originally thought! The main characters are both very complex, and their evolution over the course of the book is pretty incredible. The author does an outstanding job showing who they are and allows them to grow organically throughout the story.

What I liked about this book:
- As I've mentioned, the character development was exceptional; I really felt like I "knew" them and rooted for them
- The H is definitely swoon-worthy; the h is quirky and cute
- The stories within the main story are all interesting and are carried out well (I didn't feel like I was left out of anything happening with the ancillary characters)

What I didn't like as much about this book:
- The h was a little too immature for my taste at times in terms of her interests/hobbies --- they seemed a little off given her age and life circumstances to-date (totally a personal thing; probably not an issue for many readers)
- The conflict at the end of the book dragged on a little too long, and the reconciliation kind of came out of nowhere

Overall, a great read with some heartwarming, heartbreaking, and hot moments sprinkled throughout!

Plot --- 4.5/5
Main Characters --- 4.5/5 (H --- 5/5; h -- 4/5)
Other Characters -- 4.5/5
Steam Level -- 3.5/5
Violence --- None
Language --- Not egregious
POV --- Dual

OH my! Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down~

This book was full of emotion. I fell in love with Alana and Darien. Alana has just broken up with her cheating husband and hads no desire to love again, until she met her brother’s friend Darien at the club she works at. They both have broken hearts from past marriages. The connection they have is soo incredible, characters were great and watching their relationships grow was very, very hawt. haha

Passion, desire, love, hatred. This book was full of emotion and such a good romance that has its hotness and a bit of drama. This is the fist book I’v read from J.M. Stoneback and it wont be the last! I highly recommend it!

This book followed Darien, a wealthy (naturally) executive with a high sex drive and commanding presence, and Alana, his business partner’s sister who struggles after being “broken” (author’s words) by life’s struggles. There were a few supporting characters, Alana’s pregnant best friend, her brother, etc. that I figure will get the storyline for the next few books in the series.

I had a very difficult time with this book, which follows some conventions of FSOG (in the hero’s background and possessive demeanor, but not sex style). Some of the actions between the characters felt too easy, too insta-love, and there was a lack of flow. The language was awkward (especially during the sex scenes) and used words not commonly said in the northeastern US, where the book took place.

Interestingly, though the hero is filthy rich, he lives in Newark, NJ, which does have a beautiful view of NYC (true) and some major banks (like Prudential, also true), but no penthouses or wealthy trappings mentioned in the book. The Newark described in the book was closer to a nice neighborhood in NY itself, or maybe even a dozen other NJ towns within a 30 minute drive of it. Little details like this make a big difference because they can take the reader out of the narrative.

I didn’t connect with the characters and had to push myself through. I hate to write a review like this because I don’t like to be negative. I prefer to provide positive, constructive (though still honest) reviews or add such a book to my DNF shelf, but I read this on KU for an author looking for honest feedback and reviews.

Alana Underwood's whole life was flipped upside down 6 months ago when her husband, Charles, announced he was leaving her for his pregnant personal assistant. Alana vows not to let herself be swept up in "love" again and wants nothing to do with a real relationship and enjoys her hook-ups with Tate. Alana works for her brother Gunnar and also as a waitress at a local Gentlemen's club.

Darien Casey has been separated from his wife Mia for over two years but is struggling to get her to sign the actual divorce papers. When he meets Alana he knows immediately that he wants her but she wants nothing to do with him. It doesn't help that Alana's brother Gunnar is his best friend and owner of the building the both live in.

When Darien convinces Alana to give him a shot with a "friends with benefits" relationship, she agrees but soon she is wondering if she is feeling more than she wants to. But both Darien and Alana have secrets they are hiding from the other and what will happen when the other finds out?

I liked Alana and completely understood why she was hesitant to get involved in another relationship after what happened with Charles. I thought her relationship with Tate was great and just what she needed at the time to fill a spot and make her feel better about herself.

Darien was more complex as he had his own past with Mia and he fell for Alana so fast and was so protective of her right from the get go. I was surprised at how fast he was moving with her and how he knew he wanted her in his life. I did love when Darien told her that he wouldn't be her rebound.

The relationship between Alana and Darien was hot right from the beginning but you knew that they had a lot of issues to overcome and trust.

Towards the ending my heart broke for everything that was going on. I was sad that Alana was faced with losing someone she had loved and I was super mad at Darien for making the choice he did without letting Alana decide.

The very ending was great and I look forward to more from these characters!

Chasing Darien—the first book in the Chasing series—is a great book that you don’t want to miss! It’s so good that I’m breaking the five rating rule and I’m giving it ten ratings!

You might already know my review styles—I don’t give any spoilers in my reviews, so technically speaking, if you hate spoilers, you’re safe.

The book starts with a very shocking revelation—it was just the prologue yet, boom! It’s already making me grit my teeth—The story was fast-phasing, and you will already meet the characters in the first two chapters—Alana, Darien, Charles, Rebecca, Mia—and the others.

Let’s discuss the characters. Well, Darien is what every girl wishes to have, and oh good gracious, he really has a forte with his dirty talking. Alana, on the other hand, is the sexiest, and the prettiest—but apart from that, Alana is a very strong girl—especially when you read the latter part of the book—you will realize how strong she is.

The book was written in Alana and Darien’s POV so there is no confusion in their emotion—it’s very well written that you could feel what the characters felt in the book—and mind you, it’s a roller coaster ride of emotion— you will share Alana’s laughter, her confusion, annoyance, pain, love and grief; and Darien’s lust, annoyance, mood swings, pain, and love.

There’s a lot of quotable quotes in this book that can serve as a guide in your love life, and if you’ve been cheated on, oh wonderful, you can totally relate in this book.

This book deserves a round of applause.

Chasing Darien (Chasing Series Book 1) by J.M. Stoneback is the first book in her Chasing series. This is not my first book by this author but it has just become my favorite. Her writing style is engaging, creative and easy flowing. Her characters are both lovable and connectable. They took me on an emotional roller coaster ride that made me laugh and cry. They also took me on some twists and turns that I didn't see coming but kept me reading. I was pulled right in by this story right from the beginning. This story is compassion, love, pain and gets hot and steamy in parts. This is Alana and Darien's story. Alana has been hurt in the past and is just getting out of a cheating relationship. She needs a distraction and not a relationship. She meets Darien through her brother and he has her heart right from the beginning. She knows he will probably break it but is it worth a chance anyway? Darien is also just getting out of a bad relationship. He is just looking for a quick fling but he finds more then he was expecting in Alana. He can't seem to get enough of her. You need to read this book to find out what happens with them. Because they both have been hurt in the past they have some insecurities that need to be dealt with. I enjoyed both of these characters and the banter that went along with them. They both have some attitude going on that just makes them great together. I enjoyed their chemistry and found myself hoping they would find their happy ever after. I also enjoyed the secondary characters. They were supportive and they also made the story more heartfelt. I highly recommend you read this book. Find out what happens between Alana and Darien and if they are willing to let their pasts go.

He's one determined Multi-Millionaire, but this time he's turned his sites upon HER... taking Her, claiming Her, marking Her, owing Her, keeping Her... Making HER His in everyway Possible!!
She's just outta a BAD Relationship, & She wants & desperately needs Space, Time, Patience, & Healing to get OVER the Betrayal & Losses; Unfortunately or Fortunately, He's just not willing to wait & storms into her life like a Wild Stallion ready to cover its Mare... Now, She's gotta Hang ON tight, because he's gonna give her one HELL of a RIDE!! Is She Chasing Darien, or is He Chasing HER?!
I was granted an ARC of "Chasing Darien (Chasing Series Book 1)" by J.M. Stoneback via Booksprout; I'm recommending this book based upon its own merits... Alana married her high school sweetheart, but one day he just tells her about his pregnant personal assistant and wants a divorce. She leaves him with everything (the house and their belongings), just basically packs her bag and leaves. Her brother gives her a condo in his building rent-free and a girlfriend moves in. Alana just happens to have a friend with benefits relationship with Tate, a law student who would really like more of a relationship with Alana. But she feels her heart has been broken and she doesn’t trust men anymore.

Darien is trying to get a divorce from his drug-addicted wife for two years and has moved into a penthouse in the same building where Alana lives. He also is friends with Alana’s brother, who is very protective of his younger sister.

I liked the way Darien and Alana danced around their mutual attraction but was surprised at how possessive Darien quickly became. I also wondered why she needed to work two jobs, her day job was working in her brother’s office (and well paid) and her part-time job working in a gentleman’s club waiting tables. Her condo is rent-free, she doesn’t seem to have any debt, and she isn’t living extravagantly.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. It was the first time I’d read anything by this author and am looking forward to reading another book in this series. My one warning is to have a box of tissues handy, I couldn’t stop crying towards the end of the book.

It's been a while for me to pick up a book, be instantly hooked and not want to put it down. I finally found that with this one.

The story was well thought out, no holes, nothing left unfinished. It is a standalone and a HEA.

It starts out with Alana getting dumped by her ass of a husband because he is a cheater. Darien, struggling to end his marriage from a crack whore, sees Alana and is instantly obsessed.

Alana has got be my favorite heroine by far. She is not whiny, not overly emotional, not always in her head obsessing over the same stuff like I see in other books. She is strong and remains strong throughout the entire book. When you learn of all the things she has been through in her short 23 years of life, you will wander how she is still standing. WOW. I really enjoyed her.

Darien is also a great character. He is an alpha, but not too overbearing of an alpha. He has a heart and we see it.

I will be looking into J.M. Stoneback other works because the writing is superb, well thought out, no holes in the plot, no grammar or spelling errors that I noticed.

The only thing is the ending seemed rushed and I felt like I could have had more meat to their ending. Maybe even a little more emotional realization that they made some errors and how they decided to turn around from that. It was almost like, because of time that was the realization but I didn't feel like it was enough to justify the ending.

Chasing Darien by J.M. Stoneback is book one of the Chasing series. I’ve never read a book by this author before but this one hooked me! I finished it in four hours! As soon as I started it I was lost in Darien and Alana’s story.

Alana and love aren’t on good terms. Alana knows what it’s like to have her heart broken. So that doesn’t explain why she feels butterflies and tingles when she meets Darien when he shows up with her brother at the club she works at. She absolutely can’t fall for Darien and she is sure she can handle that after talking to him a bit but she begins to realize she’s feeling things she promised herself she wouldn’t.

Darien knows as soon as he sees Alana, that he wants her. But soon, he realizes she has him doing things he’s never done before. Darien Casey doesn’t beg! He always gets what he wants. Will Alana give in? Is she too broken for anything between them to work out? Will Darien be able to handle all her broken pieces?

I loved this book so much! I wasn’t really sure what to expect but I definitely didn’t expect the emotion and raw feeling the book provoked. Darien is your typical alpha with some sweet mixed in. Alana is sassy and fierce despite all she’s dealt with. It’s a great story and I felt like I was right there with the characters!

Wow! Loved it <3 A must read!
Alana~
"LOVE IS A stupid emotion that f*%ks you up. Makes you weak, makes you want to question your self-esteem, your morals. Love can crush you into tiny pieces and turn you into a person you don't want to be. Right now, I hate love. Hate it with a passion. And if you don't protect your heart, love will chew it up and spit it out, which is happening to me right now."
Two hearts wronged and then brought together later. Alana dumped by her husband when she needed him most. Darien feel out of love with his wife a long time ago and now wants her to sign the divorce papers but she won't. Darien meets Alana through her brother one night and wants to have her. After meeting Darien through her brother, Alana can't stop thinking of him. What will happen between Darien and Alana?
J.M. you did fantastic with the tale of Alana and Darien. I fell in love with both of these strong but broken characters. Your writing flows and kept me interested the whole entire read. With both points of view being told I never once wondered what the other was thinking. Your characters have it all passion, sadness, hope, and love it oozes from beginning to end.

Chasing Darien by JM Stoneback is the first book in her Chasing series, and what a fantastic start! Following the story of Darien and Alana, their beginning was not the greatest. Darien being in business with Alana's older brother makes for strange bedfellows, but when Darien sees something that he wants he goes after it with total abandon. Alana has been hurt in the past, but there is something about Darien that keeps drawing her in like a moth to a flame. The chemistry between these two is electric, steaming up my e-reader multiple times. What starts out as nothing more than a quickie fling, turns into something much more addicting than any drug available. But when the past comes back to haunt Alana, will Darian step up to the plate or will Alana have to stand on her own? When the bad boy falls for the girl, all bets are off even when her older brother finds out. Stoneback is an old favorite of mine, so I jumped at the chance to pick this book up. The characters were written in a way that I was able to fall in love with them instantly, the storyline was easy to follow, and the sexy parts were amazing realistic. If you are looking for a great weekend read, about two great people finding love than this is the book for you.

I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review. An excellent, excellent book. Well written, the characters were well defined, had depth and personality. Alana's ex-husband left her for another woman. She hurt inside and did not trust men at all. Darien was going through a messy divorce that he could not get settled but was trying. Together they were broken but trying to have a relationship one day at a time. She finds out her ex is dying and has no one to be with him. Alana decides to help him because the only family he has is his grandmother who can't take care of him. Darien is afraid and breaks up with Alana. Big mistake. But Alana never stops loving Darien. He just doesn't understand that she would never love her ex like she loves him. They both have a lot of emotional baggage that needs to be dealt with. This book chronicles the ups and downs of Alana's relationship with her ex Charles, her brother Gunner, her roommate Crystal and with Darien. Darien has to deal with his business partners which Gunner is one of, and his ex Mia. What is going to happen? So much drama and emotion in the book. A must read. Highly recommended

Chasing Darien- J.M. Stoneback

4-star review

“Love is beautiful and messy.”

Chasing Darien by J.M. Stoneback is definitely a page-turning romance! This is the first book in The Chasing series, and what a great start it is. This story is raw, gritty, descriptive, full of lustful moments and some of the hottest dirty talk I’ve read. The storyline is captivating, intense, heartbreaking and truly addicting. This book had me laughing out loud, falling in love, feeling frustrated and surprisingly feeling very emotional, I may have shed a few tears. It was a well-rounded story that I found was written beautifully.

These characters, both main and supporting, were so relatable. I connected with Alana from the start, she was honest, sarcastic, caring, protective and broken. She was the perfect match for Darien, as he was so dominant, successful, and very intense. They were able to relate to each other in the best way. I really loved their story, I look forward to reading book two of the series once released!

Chasing Darien (Chasing Series Book 1) By J.M. Stoneback is an incredible written book about moving on and letting the past hurts go. This story is about Darien and Alana each of who have been hurt and are trying to find their path through their hurt to moving on with life. What was supposed to be a Fling to help scratch and itch, fate has other ideas even if these two try fighting it. Darien is every girls dream book boyfriend with his protective yet jealous nature, he knows what he wants and stops at nothing to get it. Alana was everything I love in female characters, strong, sassy and a bit soft hearted. Even through her pain she try's walking with her head held high. I loved everything about this book. I was completely hooked from page one and read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down! The author did a wonderful job writing what could have been a same ol' same romance and making it a story that was refreshing and had me on the edge of my seat. I'll be adding this one to my re-reading list. I'm giving this story a five star review and can't wait to read more!

Drama and emotion......

This is a complicated romance with infidelity, friends with benefits, a best friend’s sister, a second chance, and love and loss... it focuses on Alana and Darien both with testing romantic pasts and conflicting challenges ahead...

Unfortunately I did not feel connected to the main characters and therefore wasn’t overly invested in their relationship... he is a bit stalkerish and a lot controlling, and she come across as rather shallow and thoughtless to start with and by the time there is an explanation given, it was too late for me......there are several interesting secondary characters who are clearly being set up for their own stories at some point.....I particularly liked Crystal, Alana’s best friend...

There are some dramatic and truly emotional moments, which kept me engaged, and whilst I did not love the main characters, or their behaviour most of the time, the author’s style of writing was easy to read and the pace was good and kept me reading until the end...I received a copy of this book from the author through Quirky Blind Date with a Book

Chasing Darien, Chasing Series Book 1 by J.M Stoneback.
5 out of 5 stars
This story is an emotional roller coaster. It is incredibly well written, has amazing character
depth and some serious adult issues and romance. I recommend this book to be for the more
mature reader, not only due to the romance aspect of it, but also due to the sensitive nature of
the topics discussed. If you have tender heartstrings, this book may pull at them. Darien and
Alana are a couple that will set your heart on fire. The deep connection between these two,
you can feel between the pages and the emotion is very raw. I have read another book by this
author, but this one, by far is my new favorite. Ms Stoneback is a fantastic writer and knows
how to work the pages of a book and how to build a story. This novel progressed at a speed that
was perfect for the characters developments. Not to fast or slow, but within their own time.

Chasing Darien is the first in the Chasing series by author J.M. Stoneback. This is a well-written book. Made me really invested in the characters. Tugged at my heartstrings. I really love how this one just kept me wanting more. Really emotional read that had me from the start.
Alana thinks love is a stupid emotion. All it has ever done for her is bring heartache. She has learned her lesson the hard way and will not be making that mistake ever again.
Darien is a good guy but she doesn’t trust him and has a hard time opening up to him.
Darien for his part he is determined to show he is different from the others. He can be trusted.
I really loved Darien he is perfect for someone like Alana. Together they are a great couple.

I cannot wait for more from this series in the future. I really enjoyed this story never wanted it to end.

Chasing Darien is my first read by J.M. Stoneback. It was a good fun read with the intense chemistry between Darien and Alana. At times it was overly crass for my liking, and the ending felt a bit rushed but overall an enjoyable read.

"if you don't hurry up and get off me, I'm going to shove my cock so far up your pussy you're gonna feel it in your fucking stomach," he growls.
"Jesus, Darien."
"That's what you are going to say in a few seconds. Now move. before I lose me goddam mind."

I give 5 stars to Chasing Darien (Chasing Series Book 1) written by J.M. Stoneback.

This was a first read for me from this author and I was completely sucked into this book from the first page, the writing and the story were perfectly done I can not wait for book 2.

Alana had been hurt one to many times, now she just out for fun or so she thought, that was until she met Darien, now her heart has other ideas but she's not up for being hurt and broken again.

Darien has other ideas what he wants he gets and Alana is not exception, what he didn't bank on was wanting her so much that he won't let her go.

The chemistry the main characters have is brilliant and just flows off the pages to you. Brilliant read also a bonus is the steamy scenes. Definitely will be recommending this author and will be personally looking for more from this author.

I absolutely loved the opening sentence in this book by J.M. Stoneback, as well as the remainder of the book right up through the last page. It took the reader on a very high and low emotional rollercoaster ride, as the characters struggled with their trials, troubles, and loves. I think one of the things I most liked about this book was that the female lead didn't just give in to the alpha male's wants and desires as is usually the case, instead she maintained being herself, and in the end, being what she wanted to be when she wanted it to be. Even though this book was fraught with sexual tension and games, it was not filled like many others are, with multiple vividly described sex action scenes, which also helped make this a more enjoyable read. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Booksprout.

Very well written story with nice storyline and plot.
I like the story is written in dual POV which gives the reader both feelings and the thoughts of the characters. The prologue and epilogue starts and finishes the story in a much better way.
A heroin that really has trouble to hold on to the positive things in life. When things get better for her everything crashes but she keeps on going.
Darien breaks your heart but he also makes you hot. He also has issues that he has to get past.
They both have to chase their HEA and make the best of it.
An amazing read with lots of chemistry and passion. I would have loved the characters sometimes had a bit more depth to them. That they were a bit more developed. But a very enjoyable read.

Chasing Darien by J.M. Stoneback

Alana married Charles thinking she would live happily ever after but that wasn't to be with Charles. He got his assistant pregnant and left her. Alana and her best friend and room mate work at a gentlemen's club in downtown Newark New Jersey, Alana is a waitress. Her brother comes to the club one night with his friend Darien, her brother is very protect of Alana and doesn't think any man is good enough for his sister. I really enjoyed this story, it made me laugh and cry. It is a very romantic love story with plenty of twist and turns. This is the first in this series and now I can't read more. I received an ARC and have voluntarily left a review.

This was my first read by this author and they are now on my tbr list!
I really enjoyed this book and all the characters in it!

Chasing Darien is book 1 of the Chasing Series by J.M. Stoneback. This is my first book by this author and I must say I am impressed which normally doesn’t happen for me with the first book of any series. The book follows Darien and Alana who should be together. The two characters have some moments of betrayal, serious deception and drama to remove out of their lives that worthless exes caused them. Alana's husband has left her for his PA, and Darien's wife chose drugs and chaos over her husband. Can these two find happiness an satisfaction with each other or are they doomed to constantly have messed to clean up?

An extremely emotional story that is worth the ride, but have Kleenex handy, you may find you need them. I cannot believe that she had to deal with so much in such a short life. Does the author not like women? Ha ha. Seriously, it was a beautiful story where the reader experiences the effects that our decisions can make on our life. Every decision made leads to a fork in the road and we always wonder if we've taken the correct one. But sometimes it leads us right where we need to be. In this story, a lot of very bad things happened that eventually lead our main character to the happiness she deserves.

🎆🎆EXPLOSIVE READ🎆🎆
✨5 Stars✨-Amazing (couldn't put the book down-dangerous addiction),

Dual POV; Standalone; 17+readers; HEA. No cliffhanger.

What a gut-wrenching read. My heart hurt for the characters. What tragedy and love throughout this book. Darien is an amazing character, not at all what I thought. And what can I say about Alana. She's a spitfire of a woman. I loved her sass and the way she didn't just cave to any man. Amazingly written and put together, hats of to the author. I just didn't want the story to end. I WANT MORE!!

Definitely a book to pull at your heart strings. LOVE, HATE, HURT, FUNNY, HOT and TRIUMPHANT.

Passion, desire, love, hatred. This book was full of emotion. I fell Inlove with alana and Darien. The connection they feel between one another is incredible. The book is both educational as well as romantic. It’s personal and always people to feel compassion and sympathy for the people. I loved the story about the two love birds and how they were there for one another. My only let down was there wasn’t a dramatic forgiving. She just gave in. Although I am happy she did. Was a really good book and will definitely read it again 😁
