Sometimes your mouth makes deals that your heart can’t honour.

Jude is a highly successful model, but a very reluctant one. His life is full of casual hook-ups with pretty men in glamorous locations, but it’s still empty. However, circumstances decreed a long time ago that this was his path, so he’s resolutely stayed on it and accepted his fate with good grace. He made a deal with himself and his hook-ups. Get in, get out and no ties with anyone.

However, an accident at home one night leads to him making a new deal and accepting the offer of help from an unlikely source. It leads to an unexpected summer of falling in love with a larger than life man and his child.

But by the end of the summer his reasons for not staying are still valid. Will he turn away? Can he?

Asa is a talented actor who has spent time away from the scene to look after his son. But now he’s back, and the last thing he needs are complications from the gorgeous man who is staying with him. Scarred from too many betrayals, he has no intention of forming a lasting tie with anyone. However, he can’t resist the beautiful man with secrets, and to his horror he develops feelings.

But a deal’s a deal and they said it was just for the summer. What can Asa do with a man who has forever in his eyes and goodbye on his lips?

From the Amazon bestselling author of ‘Rule Breaker’ comes another scorchingly hot romantic comedy.

Okay, apologies in advance, but let the profuse gushing begin! : )

I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK.

As much as I enjoyed "Rule Breaker," this story was so up my reading tastes alley that, for me, "Deal Maker" blew the first book completely out of the water.

Jude was a 29 y.o., fun-loving, irreverent, underwear model and best friend to Dylan (from book 1) since they were in nursery school together. But when his upstairs neighbor's bath tub was suddenly dropped into his bedroom, he found himself without a place to live for the next several months.

Asa was a 44 y.o., well-known actor with horrible taste in romantic partners and father to his 5 y.o. son, Billy. On his step-brother Dean's recommendation, he decided to give Jude both a place to stay and a job as his assistant.

What happened after that was EVERYTHING.

Asa's very verbal assertion (straight to Jude's face) that he was nothing more than an empty-headed, Calvin Klein billboard was jarring, but Jude decided to make Asa suffer for that judgement, as he 'accidentally' screwed up nearly every job duty that Asa gave him. If Asa was expecting Jude to be an air-headed bimbo, well, Jude was going to give him just that -- with both barrels.

And it was freaking hilarious to witness.

My single favorite comedic scene from the book was meeting Billy at the front door of Asa's Pink Palace, where Jude began to work his way into their lives.
A few minutes later it swings open again, and the little boy appears. “Oh, what now?” he sighs in a very world-weary manner.

My lips twitch. “I’ve been thinking about your password.” He brightens instantly, and I lean back against the doorjamb. “Has it got the word poo in the password?”

He looks at me as if I’m Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking rolled into one. “It has,” he breathes wonderingly...
I love books with true-to-life representations of kids and Morton completely nailed Billy in this story. He was so much more than a two-dimensional, miniature, scene-stealing, little ham, which was truly entertaining to read. She made me love that (fictional) little boy so hard.

The book was chock full of hilarity from start to finish, but written with such cleverness and subtlety that I never felt that the book was trying too hard to evoke laughs.

But along with the humor, there are plenty of tender, touching chapters as well, some with steam and some steam-free. The section where Asa finally gave Jude a truly happy birthday, and the 2 years later "adapt me" epilogue?

GAH! All the feels, folks!

This story was as close to perfect as I've read in the last several months, with my only criticism being Morton's tendency (in this series, at least) to write "The Big Break-Up" scenes waaaaaaay OTT, leaving me slightly pissed off and yelling "WTAF was that???"

Those scenes were very out of character for the MC's, so I felt that that particular dialogue could have been written with much more tact and less hurtful anger, staying much more true to whom the characters had consistently shown themselves previously to be.

Yet, that one bit of head scratching near-fuckery aside, this was still a solid 5-star read and I'd highly recommend it.

** NOTE:
The author also wrote a free short story, "Green Eyed Monsters (Deal Maker 1.5)," which is available on her web site at the following URL, so don't miss that! : )

I didn't read Rule Breaker, a decision I'm regretting since I loved Dylan and Gabe in this book. Dylan's interactions with Jude were hilarious, but then again this is the funniest book I've read in a long, long time.

Seriously, I was giggling like a lunatic, to the point that my dogs were giving me the Mom Is Crazy look. Any book that can make me laugh like that is a WIN, but Deal Maker is more than just humour, snark, and banter (although it has all three in spades!).

The MCs are complex and fully fleshed out. Jude is gorgeous and witty; he loves to read, especially historical romance novels (a man after my own heart!). He's kind and loyal, and gives as good as he gets.

Asa is larger than life. He's a big man: big heart, big personality, big . . . yeah, that too. But Asa's been burned and has an aversion to models, whom he stereotypes as vapid and shallow.

Far be it for Jude to prove Asa wrong; oh, no, Jude goes out of his way to prove him RIGHT and becomes the Worst Personal Assistant EVER.

Asa's little boy, Billy, reminded me so much of my 7-year-old son. The hamster debacle! OMG! My kid once "borrowed" two hermit crabs from his classroom, and my reaction pretty much mirrored Asa's: scream first, ask questions later.

(Tell me how you really feel: Those hermit crabs and all their friends could have climbed up Phillip's arse, and I'd happily watch the fucker squirm in agony. That piece of shit douchehole deserved nothing less.)

Often, kids in books annoy me. They either talk like they're 40-year-old philosophy professors far too invested in adult relationships or they're mere props, flitting in and out of scenes on an as-needed basis. But Billy is an absolute gem: loving, smart, and easygoing!

Come to think of it, all the secondary characters in this book are amazing: the cheeky and lovable Peggy, life-of-the-party Amos (every "pressing" thing that came out of Amos's mouth cracked me up), Jude's parents, and the brilliant (or brilliantly stoned) Dean (I can't hate on Dean too much; after all, he's the one who, um, "introduced" Asa and Jude).

This is a charming, ROMANTIC (hello, seaside cottage getaway!), and SEXY (simmering burn that explodes into something passionate & intense) story with an absolutely perfect HEA.

Asa and Jude go from mild enemies to friends to lovers to EVERYTHING. Their relationship develops naturally, and Jude's insistence that he doesn't do long-term because he doesn't want to be a burden seems like a hollow protest indeed. Jude can no more stay away from Asa & Billy than stop breathing.

Oscar-worthy performances by: Jude channeling Joan Rivers during the epic pool incident in Spain, Dean as Dean, and Billy the innkeeper. Bravo!

I loved this story with my whole being. 5 stars aren't nearly enough.

“I’m not giving up on you,” I say hoarsely, putting everything on the line for the first time since eight years ago. “I’m not giving up on us. And I’m not leaving.” I hesitate. “At least if it’s okay with you, I’d really like to stay this time. With you.”
He half laughs, his face pursed in an adorably confused way. “I want you to stay with me always,” he says hoarsely. “I want everything with you.”

imsoinloveBYE 😭✌️ this was such an unexpectedly perfect read for me and i ate up every bit of this. it gave me all the feels, from making me literally gasp with laughter in the first half to bringing me to tears several times in the second half — not because it was that angsty but because i just felt that much for the characters and their story (and because i get emotional very easily). me and books with celebrity romances (here it’s actor x model) and boss x employee romances don’t go very well together, but here it just worked.

my main reaction when i was reading this book:

i adore it when the connection between the mcs is developed so naturally and realistically, and that’s how it happened here. asa had this misconception about jude because of his own past experiences with models, and jude (who was a model himself) decided to show him that he was exactly what asa had dreaded him to be — except that backfired in such a spectacular way. the way jude pretended to be this dumb model without any braincells when he was actually such an intelligent man will never not be funny to me. asa realized in little time, of course, that jude was just pulling his leg — but he only became more intrigued by jude and that’s when he regretted his previous presumption.

there were these lil moments that shifted their mindset about each other, and the way they slowly learnt each other from inside out — it was everything to me. their simmering connection and romance was so slow-burn but when they finally came together, so worth it. their banter with each other was so hilarious, and their deeper convos just touched me in this way i can’t explain. they came to life around each other and the way they were each other’s happiness — i adored it. they saw each other, right down to each other’s souls, and it was just so gorgeous and pure and beautiful — there is no other word to describe it. i adored how their age gap wasn’t made a huge deal out of (jude is 29 and asa is 44) and i loved their dynamics so much. i truly believe these two are meant to be together forever. 🥹

“It was lovely to see him with such a big smile on his face.”
“Why was he smiling?”
Rachel speaks again and steals my thoughts away. “You.”

i adore characters who can’t get enough of each other, who are independent but also need the other person in their life — something about it hits different. i loved how witty, kind, humorous and loyal jude was — perfectly complemented by the pure warmth that radiated from asa, the gentle giant vibes, the soft heart he concealed behind his sometimes-rough exterior. i fell in love with their love. when i imagine their love, it’s just something so open and free and wild and something everyone can get enveloped in.

I smile and Billy looks up. “Are we keeping Jude now, daddy?”
Asa stares at him and me with an impossibly gentle look on his face. “I think we are, Bill. Yes.”

also billy!! 😭🥰 i’ve always talked about how much i love kids in books and this is the perfect example. he’s just so cute and adorable ugh i just wanted to squish him. 🥺 his relationship with asa and jude was just… the best, because they didn’t coddle him but just talked to him and understood him and tried to be by his side as he grew up and that’s just so sweet. the moment jude guessed the passcode to billy and asa’s house correctly (pink poo was so hilarious omg), the little boy had stars in his eyes for jude, so no wonder it all ended up working out. these three as a trio and a family >>>

this was absolutely such an entertaining, funny, snarky read filled with heartwarming and beautiful moments and i loved it with all my heart. i’m so excited to read henry’s book now because i loved him as a side character here!

This is even more funnier the second time. Joel Leslie has his good days and this was that day. The voices are distinct enough and Billy's voice fits him.

The adventures of Billy, Jude and Asa are epic

5++++++++++++++++++ stars for this amazing book!

I LOVED IT

I laughed, i swooooned, i did fan-self so many times and laughed some more.

description

I had a blast during my vacation time.

Jude and Asa’s connection/chemistry and the banter was so amazing and on point that I kept rereading the chapters.

Billy! Billy! What an amazing 5 years old character. He was well written just your normal 5-year-old, the best child character i have ever read.....and the way they clicked with Jude was wonderful to read.

The secondary characters were well written too, I loved Dylan and Gabe’s presence in this book after all Jude and Dylan are best friends.

The relationship was a slow burn and once Jude and Asa decided to go for it, it was fireworks. The sex scenes were hot! Just the kind I like.

“Forever?” I say softly, and Asa buries his head in my neck.
I shiver as I feel, as well as hear his words falling into the air like a magical incantation.
“It’s a deal, Jude.”

I was really looking forward to getting Jude's story after he was introduced in Rule Breaker and he was just as delicious as I thought he'd be.

Jude Bailey,29,model.Quick witted, beautiful but there's a lot more to Jude than people first think when meeting him. He's given up on letting any man get too close to him. When he puts his family commitments first men tend to walk again so he's happy with no strings sex

Asa Jacobs,44,actor,father with a strong sense of family. He's been burned in love before so how will he cope when meeting the gorgeous Jude who pushes his buttons right from the start

Billy Jacobs,5....yes I couldn't not mention him. He's just got to be one of the most endearing child characters I've read about.I absolutely loved him!

Jude finds himself temporarily homeless,so when a fellow model suggests his half brother(Asa) is in need of a PA it might be the perfect solution.A bit of PA work in exchange for a few months accommodation....how difficult could it be?

Lily Morton has, once again got the British humour and banter totally on point here.

-it's quite a slow burn which totally worked, although the sexual attraction/chemistry between the two men is evident pretty much from the start....on that note...

-super,super,sexy,

-one of my absolute highlights is the relationship Jude and Billy have-it was just perfect,

-good supporting characters, especially Dylan and Gabe,I just loved their part here and,as usual,Dylan was full of sass.

A recommended read.

Oh my god, this was absolutely amazing! The first half of this book was so hilarious, I nearly pissed myself laughing more times than I can count. Eventually, though, this developed into something so much deeper: It turned into a beautiful love story between two men with a true connection, who created the sweetest family possible with the cutest five year-old boy I’ve ever seen.

Jude is the main narrator of the story, and oh what a joy it was to be inside this guy’s head! He was the kindest, funniest, wittiest, most loyal and most likable character imaginable. I adored him so much. It was impossibly not to fall in love with this man. I seriously doubt I’ve ever laughed more because of someone.

So, Jude is a model and the book starts with him needing to find a home to stay in after the roof of his flat collapses, which will take a few months to repair. He can stay with his best friend, Dylan, and his boyfriend, Gabe, but doesn’t particularly want to subject his delicate ears to the non-stop love-making these two get up to. Therefore, no matter how much he loves them, he’d rather find some other place to stay.
After a hilarious misunderstanding while trying to find a new place, he becomes the live-in assistant to the 15 years older moviestar, Asa, who seems to have some negative presumptions about models and their “lazy attitudes and airy brains.” Jude isn’t too bothered by his judgements, but he does find some glee in taking his revenge about the man’s stereotyping, which means he decides to pretend to be a dumb airhead whenever he’s around Asa. During this scheme, he manages to mess up all his given tasks in the most hilarious ways possible; even Asa finds it hard to really get mad rather than laugh, because Jude truly is the king of comedy.
It doesn’t take Asa very long, however, to realise his mistake about Jude’s intellect, but he doesn’t want to let the man know, and so they both end up playing their little game of pretending that Jude is brain-dead, even though Asa is becoming increasingly more intrigued by the smart, funny, gorgeous man living in his house and he would love to get to know him for real. Especially when he sees Jude interacting with his son, Billy, whom Jude shares an immediate bond with and treats in the most precious way possible.

Also, I’m sorry, but Billy’s relationship with both Asa and Jude was just absolutely heartwarming and the most perfect thing I’ve ever seen; they both cared about him so much, but also had a lot of fun with him. They joked around, but also treated him super softly and delicately. It was a beautiful display of perfect parenting and you could see how much that little boy was loved and loved them right back; it truly made me melt.

Seriously, though, I loved this book so much! Jude and Asa had the best banter, and the overall story was just so freaking funny. It has a very dry wit and displays the perfect example of well-executed British humour!
Moreover, it was beautiful to see these two men grow closer and closer. They learned such intimate details about the other, and they truly saw the other for who they were inside. I can’t really explain how gorgeous the slow-burn relationship between them was, because I just cannot sum it up in a few sentences. I loved how full of life these two were when they were together, and how much they both adored every little part about the other’s personality. They matched together perfectly in every way. They had true love between them. Honestly.

5 Stars!

An amazing book to end my year with.

I was beyond thrilled when I learned Jude would not only being getting his own book, but that his would be coming out next. I loved him from the first book and couldn't wait to see where his story would take him. I was VERY pleased where it went. I loved that we got plenty of Gabe and Dylan as well. It was funny how Jude came off like their wayward son. Jude and Dylan were as entertaining in this book as they were in the first book. I love their friendship. There is plenty of laughter, snarky come backs, and the banter between all these characters were on point.

Jude is a great friend, he's loyal, has a big heart, and gorgeous working as a model. He's bubbly and fun. He loves to read; historical romance is his preference. He's got a quick tongue to go with his charming personality. But there is a lot more to this man than his looks and charm. Jude has known tragedy and keeps a lot close to his chest letting few people in on the weight he carries around on his shoulders. He let one man get too close in the past only to have that man let him down. He refuses to ever let another get that close so he won't have to feel the pain of them walking away when his burdens are revealed.

Asa... When I think of this man two words come to mind; colorful and large. If you have read the book you will understand why I think of both of those words. Large? Because Asa is a big man with a big personality with a big well known career as an actor. He has loads of friends and a couple of very interestingly unique characters who work for him. I loved his cook and butler. They were hilarious and were more his family than staff. Colorful? Because of his pink front door and the back gate with the flowers. Plus all the colors his walls are painted throughout the house. But the best part of Asa was his son, Billy. That boy stole a lot of the scene's. He was so adorable and I loved him.

Jude has unfortunate luck when destruction hits his apartment and he finds himself homeless until the repairs can be made. His flavor at the moment sets him up with staying with his step-brother and in exchange Jude will be a sort of an assistant to this man. Asa and Jude have a pleasant introduction. That is until Jude reveals he's a model. Asa has a huge problem with models. Well only with 2 but mainly with the one that left a horrendous trail of hurt and bitterness behind for Asa. Going off his experience with his past encounters, Asa makes quick judgments towards Jude's intelligence and what kind of person he is. Jude takes in stride with a side of humor and decides instead of proving Asa wrong that he'll go ahead and give Asa the version of the kind of person he deemed him as. Obviously hilarity ensues.

Two men with trust issues. One carrying his burdens around like a noose around his neck who doesn't believe a man could love him enough to help him carry them. Then one who really wants to settle down with someone he can love and trust with his heart and his child.

The romance is a slow burn but the burn is so good. The pace is perfect.

There is no way you won't come away from this book without having laughed and laughed a lot. There is no way you won't come away not having enjoyed these characters. I won't believe it.

I highly recommend this series and I can't wait for the next one.

Happy reading dolls! xx

I abolutely loved the previous book ...... , so I could not wait to get my grabby hands on this one. I finished it in one go...I don't even think I took a pee break, that's how much I enjoyed this one ;)

34yzkbc.jpg (500×348)

Now for those of you haven't read Rule Breaker, no worries, this one can be read as a stand alone. I don't know why you would want to do this....but it's possible :P

Jude was introduced in the previous book as Dylan's best friend. He's a model, but other than that we didn't get to know a lot about it. Well beauty is only skin deep, but there is much more to Jude, than meets the eye !!

Gerelateerde afbeelding

Jude has decided some time ago, that relationships are just not for him. He only goes for the one and done now, and all the men he spends time with know the score. His life might not be as fullfilling as he would like, but it's for the best. He doesn't need more....until he meets Asa that is...

A little disaster has him fleeing his appartment, and looking for a temporary place to stay. This leads him to Asa, a famous actor who has been out of the game for some time, to take care of his son Billy, who was awesome by the way.

bewerkte foto

The moment these two meet the sexual tension shoots through the roof.....but so does the hostility :P  It was very entertaining when Jude toyed with Asa a bit ;)

It becomes clear real soon that these two can not stay away from each other !!

Pwendy's uploaded images - Imgur

Asa has his own troubled past and, even though he is very attracted to Jude, he knows Jude has one foot out the door already. They agreed to only stay together for the summer...but there are these pesky things called feelings to deal with...

I really loved this one !! It was sweet, funny and sexy and I closed it with a big smile on my face. I hope there will be plenty more to come after this one, because I will read them all ;) Highly recommended !!

Deal Maker is book two in the Mixed Messages series by Lily Morton. This is my very first book by Lily. It can easily be read as a stand alone. The characters from the first book are present but you don’t need to have read their story to enjoy this one. This is a M/M single father romance that is full of swoons, steam, smiles and so very much heart!

Sometimes we go into a book having no expectations. I was looking for a single father romance and this was recommended by a trusted friend. I was not prepared in any way for the depth of my love for these characters. This author has such a magical way of mixing sweetness, so much humor, and the little bit of needed dilemma. I admit it took me until about forty percent to really and truly fall in love. But fall I did.

Jude Bailey is a twenty eight year old, very successful model. Due to circumstances in his life, including a past betrayal from a former relationship, Jude does not do relationships. He’s a one and done guy. He lets his partners know up front but hook-ups are all he has to offer. But then disaster struck with his apartment and Jude finds himself needing a place to stay for the summer. Little did he know just how much his life would change that summer.

Asa Jacobs is a forty four year old successful actor. He also has the most adorable five year old son, Billy, that he is raising on his own. Asa has taken time off from the world of acting to raise his son. Although there are plans in the works for his return to the screen. Asa needs a new assistant and his step brother has sent a friend to him that needs a place to stay. Asa has also been hurt from which he has not recovered. All that is important to him is the happiness of his son. But we’ll just say that he was not at all prepared for Jude. In all honesty, could anyone be?

These two definitely start right out with that zing of attraction that they both fight. They also both have huge misconceptions regarding each other, and it’s hilarious. Eventually, though, they become friends. Jude and little Billy connect immediately. I loved how these two were together. Little by little, feelings grew, truths were shared, and what they felt became too much to deny.

“If you’re with me I have everything.”

This was such a beautiful, fun, sexy and sweet book. I spent almost all of the second half in full swoon mode. They were so much fun, their banter pretty much had a permanent smile on my face. These two were just so obviously made for each other.

I’m so glad I decided to jump in with this one. I will definitely be looking at more by this author. I’m not going to forget these two and little Billy for a very long time.

“I have everything I will ever need. I have my home.”
“Forever.”

BR review w/my girl Lost

You know those book experiences where from the start you can't stop smiling? That was me from the start, a déjà vu of Rule Breaker, so I completely agree with Lost about this author now moving into auto-buy territory. I found myself, yet again, having separation anxiety from Asa and Jude just as I did with Gabe and Dylan. So as soon as I finished it I immediately went to read the extra on her website and here I sit still feeling the loss. Lily Morton sprinkled her sparkledust again.

I think what makes her characters so special is their accessibility, relatability. Despite both Asa and Jude having somewhat posh jobs (actor and model) they are two simple men who are trying to traverse life's obstacles and tribulations all while believing they'll never have what they most want: someone to share their life. They've both tried and failed and are set on traveling light from here on out. Not that either are dour or forlorn, quite the contrary.

Asa is a big lumbersexualized un with a man bun... wait. I need a minute. 😍 to the 🌑 and 🌎 Sorry. I digress. Where was I? Oh yeah, he's got a larger than life personality that draws people in and puts them at ease. People want to be around him so his house is always full and loud. Jude is younger with a sharp wit, enough snark and sass to rival Deadpool (minus the guns and killing, avocado face and stuff) and fiercely loyal. I was smitten with both of them, particularly the correspondence at the beginning of each chapter courtesy of Jude.

Jude's been hired as Asa's assistant despite him being a "vapid, air headed model" and makes it his personal mission to prove himself the King of the Nitwits; it was seriously funny too. I chortle-snorted multiple times. But his intelligence shines through and soon Asa is on to the game. Their attraction to each other is palpable and with each evolution of their relationship it grows stronger.

Several of my buttons were pushed when it came to Asa and Jude: age difference, size difference, they're both loud, uninhibited, raw and tend to be messy during the sexy times and they're desperate for each other every. single. time.

Even in a semi-public place. Ripped shirts, missing buttons, hair askew, still a lil sweaty, beard burn... #deceased

Their chemistry and the evolution of their relationship drew me in and didn't let go, still hasn't let go to be honest. Even the conflict was believable and, thankfully, short-lived. All this along with the fantastic secondary characters-Billy, Peggy, Dylan, Gabe, Henry-just... made me feel good; it's chicken soup for the heart, even Amos and his tiny black cloud.

If you want a feel good read/series look no further than this one and now I can't wait to see who Lily Morton will make me form an yet another possibly strange, possibly unhealthy attachment to in the next one. Fingers crossed it's Henry.

For the uproarious laughter, the happy tears, and the constant state of dopey grinning, I’m dishing out full stars to this instant favourite.

I had a grand old time reading Rule Breaker, and as such, this (unfathomably-not-marked-as-a-sequel) sequel had a lot to live up to. But, oh boy, did it surpass my every expectation effortlessly.

The love story between MCs Jude (the relationship weary model) and Asa (the single father actor) progressed so perfectly, starting off with a bit of an enemies-to-lovers vibe and culminating in one of the most loving and heart-warming M/M romances I’ve read in a good long while. I loved their banter and the easy way they showed affection towards one another once they moved past the fun and games of the early (undeniably hilarious) part of the story.

But as great as Jude and Asa’s romantic relationship was, it was the soul-pleasing humour that ran rampant throughout the story and the outstanding cast of lovable secondary characters that truly made me fall head over heels in love with this book.

I can’t recall the last time I laughed this hard or this often while reading. From Jude’s initial efforts to play dumb, to practically every single thing little Billy (Asa’s five year old son) said, I was in a constant state of merriment, chuckling out loud non-stop and highlighting passages like a fiend. I feel that making readers laugh uncontrollably is a skill not all that many author’s possess, so I have to give credit where credit’s due because Morton really has a knack in this particular arena.

As for the cast of characters, I can’t quite decide who I adored more. Jude was a stunning MC and I melted over his loyalty to family and his passion for reading, but the obvious choice for favourite here is ultimately little Billy. His guileless nature and endless capacity to love unconditionally had my heart full to bursting. In fact, he may be the best representation of a five year old boy I’ve ever read, which is saying something because, as a teacher, the majority of book children I come across drive me mental with how unrealistically they are portrayed. Honestly, Billy’s presence in this story took this from an enjoyable read to an epic one so he gets all the points.

I also loved the heavy presence of the Rule Breaker MCs, Dylan and Gabe. These two came and went throughout the story but when they were on page they were scene stealing and tearing that shit up!! Their appearances here simply made me love them more, and maybe even made me crave a re-read of their own story. Gabe’s friend Henry – also initially introduced in Rule Breaker – made a couple of appearances too, and I’m definitely crossing my fingers and toes that he gets to play MC in Morton’s next story.

Needless to say, this story was a major hit for me. As well as being endlessly funny and deeply romantic, Deal Maker was well-written, with characters that were impressively crafted and memorably lovable. This is only my third read by Morton but I wouldn’t hesitate to read whatever she serves up next.

“My Jude. My best friend, my lover and my heart.”

This book made me swoon! And I don't friggin swoon!!!

Jude is a reluctant model, working the career because it pays well. When his apartment gets flooded, he needs a place to stay other than the sex filled apartment of his best friend. A fellow model gives him a tip, leading Jude to actor Asa.

Asa loathes models, everything they stand for. So when he takes Jude in he makes it clear he thinks Jude is dumb and self involved because of his profession. So Jude decides to make it interesting and plays along, fully intending to make Asa's life hell.....

“Everyone is entitled to love who they want, and people aren’t weird just because of who they love. No one is weird."

After really enjoying Rule Breaker last year, I knew I wanted to read Jude's story. And wow, personally I think Lily Morton outdid herself! While my tastes run toward angsty, I fell in love with this sweet and swoon-worthy story. Jude and Asa were amazing together, I had a constant smile on my face when reading this book.

Lily Morton is an author I will be automatically one clicking in the future. If you love MM romance you need to start reading her books ASAP!

Unlike Rule Breaker that was full of angst, this one was very low on it (almost angst-free) but so so so funny! Oh, you couldn’t guess how I laughed hard! Every time Jude opened his mouth or Billy did something, I laughed out loud or smiled! I loved these three characters. They were so perfect. I loved Billy (Asa’s five-year-old boy), he was so so adorable and cute!

We met Jude in Rule Breaker, he was Dylan’s best friend. He’s a model. When a gap opening in his ceiling and a bath fell through and landed in his bedroom, his building inspector asked him out so he can survey the property. So Jude needs a home and he can’t afford a hotel room for too long or another rent besides his flat. So his friend introduced him to his stepbrother (Asa). Jude can live there and instead of paying rent he can help with Asa’s PA duties. But his friend forgot to tell him that Asa hates models!!!

Told in dual POV, 1st person (mostly Jude's POV) and it can be read as a stand-alone novel. Asa and Jude’s age gap is sixteen years but it wasn’t palpable at all for me. It’s so well-written and characters were amazing! Lily Morton definitely can write! Overall, I loved this one and hope you enjoy it as well!

**4 unexpected but deserved stars**

It’s no mystery I was in the minority regarding Rule Breaker as I didn’t find it humorous at all. And to be honest, the introduction of this book made me fear that it would go the same way.

So, I was deliciously pleased (and relieved) that the ridiculness stopped fast and made way to banter, witt and tease to compliment this swooning building of a relationship between Jude, as beautiful as he’s kind and fun, Asa, with a big personality and a bigger heart, and Billy (no, it’s not a threesome, get your head out of the gutter), Asa’s five-year-old son who unwittingly brings Asa and Jude together.

As Dani mentioned (and I quote her) : ”This is a charming, ROMANTIC and SEXY (simmering burn that explodes into something passionate & intense) story with an absolutely perfect HEA”.
And full of banter and teasing moments. Exactly the kind of read I like : an entertaining and sexy romance with an age-gap, a sense of family and friendship. For me, “Rule Breaker” was a deal breaker but “Deal Maker” was definitely a deal maker !!!

** Personal note to Ele : I’m so glad I granted you your wish. See, I’ve been good….now, please, pretty please, can I get my treat ?!? <3

This book is adorable. It's not great, but it's very cute and funny, makes me smile and it's fast forward; meaning it's easy to read when I'm sick.

This book was still so cute and funny. I adore the characters and I like the storyline. Of course, I don't remember if I felt like something was missing the first time reading it, but I do know. I just want more, I guess. Overall, I enjoyed this re-read, but sorry to say that the rating did go down a bit.
New Rating - 3/3.5 stars.

First read review:
This book was absolutely adorable. I liked the banter, the love and friendships, I adored the characters. The story centers around famous actor Asa Jacobs (44) and highly successful model, Jude Bailey (28, turns 29) and, of course, the little cutie, Billy ‘Bill’ Jacobs (5), Asa's son. Jude needs a place to stay while his apartment gets fixed, Asa needs an assistant, however made a mistake at the first meeting and judged Jude brainless. Jude being Jude decided then that if Asa thought him brainless, he should show him brainless. And a hilarious story starts. Full of joy and love and about finding your last stop. I simply adored it.
I grab the scissors and cut off the tag, very aware of the hair spattering his wide chest and the sturdy strength of his wrists as he holds the shirt out. I must be far gone if I’m noticing a man’s wrists. I normally look straight at the crotch area to speculate, but just for tonight those wrists look like they could hold up the world so it doesn’t press so closely on my shoulders.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Contemporary Romance (M/M)
Series: - Standalone.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Jude Bailey.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Sure.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Yes.
Will I read this again in the future? - Probably.
Rating - 3.5/4 stars.

I loved this one! The writing was amazing. I fell hard for this author after reading Rule Breaker. Both books are great.
Lily Morton's writing style makes you feel like you can read on and on without getting bored for a second. And what makes a book amazing for me would be the banter between the main characters. I love laughing while reading and this author surely knows how to make me laugh.

This book is a stand-alone, but I'd recommend you to read Rule Breaker before, because: 1) it was a great book full of delicious banter and 2) we meet Jude as Dylan's best friend. In Deal Maker we revisit Dylan and Gabe and they're wonderful together! *sigh*

Jude is a 29 years old model. Asa is a movie star who got burned in the past and now he's not trusting anyone to get close to him or his 5 years old son, Bill. Especially not the hot model he's got as PA. But when Jude shows he's not only a pretty face and Asa admits he's extremely attracted to him, they both lie themselves they're not falling in love.

I'm not really a fan of slow burning stories, but I loved everything about this one: the main characters, the secondary characters especially Bill, all the funny scenes, Jude's letters to Asa's fans, all the hot scenes, the sweet ending.
I want more from this author!

Oh and if you want more too, make sure you check Green Eyed Monsters. It's short, free and super sweet.

Witt, humor, snark galore. I spent the first part of this book laughing like a lunatic.

Asa is a movie star, Billy is his five-year old son and Jude is a Calvin Klein underwear model that barrells into their life to liven things up.

Oh my goodness, Jude made me laugh so hard at the beginning of the book.

There are also some great secondary characters. A shout out to to Peggy and Amos who are servants friends living with Asa.

It's a fairly long novel at over 350 pages. I admit I had more fun during the first half. The second half is just as good but with a little more serious tone.

If you're looking for pure romance with a strong HEA, this book is for you.

A big hug to all my BR friends at Turning Pages at Midnight

FANFUCKINGTASTIC NARRATION BY JOEL LESLIE!!

My original ebook review April 2018:
4 or 5? 4 or 5? I can’t make up my mind. I can split the difference, sure, but which way to round? Arrrgghh!

Good things: this book made me laugh. It was funny, snarky, and witty. I adored Jude playing the role of an airhead model just to drive Asa, his “employer” crazy. These guys were funny.

More good: I found depth in these characters. And it didn’t hit me all at once. And it wasn’t during the sex scenes. Go figure. This, I liked. The depth, and the sex scenes (which had depth of their own). These characters weren’t the stereotypical actor and model types. Again, good.

Even more good: I liked the kid in the story. Bill worked as a character and helped to anchor Jude.

Why I quibbled with the rating: there wasn’t much of a plot. This was simply a relationship based book. There is nothing wrong with that, I wanted that, I didn’t want a heavy mystery or thriller or some-such.

More quibbling: Jude had a lot of internal monologuing that got to be repetitive towards the end of the book. Jude is no Hamlet, but at least we heard Hamlet’s soliloquies. Jude really got his head up his ass about “relationships” and it felt wrong, it rubbed me raw. I could see what the author was trying to do here with the internal conflict (since there was no external conflict), but it didn’t work for me.

Mini rant: Authors, if you choose to use a foreign language in your text, PLEASE have it proofed by a real person who speaks the language, preferably as their native language. This way you can get not only the spelling correct (which even Google Translate would have done for you), but also the USAGE.

So, 4 or 5? How about a 4.4......I like the two numbers together.

I also really liked this book. It was fun and I loved the cheeky chemistry between Jude and Asa.

I loved Jude, Asa and Billy!! ♥ ♥

The quote at the beginning of the book beautifully lays the groundwork for the journey the reader is embarking on.

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage."

I'm really glad that Lily Morton didn't go down the whole misunderstanding and angsty route with this book, which she could have very easily done.

Instead this book was sweet and funny and heartwarming and quirky and just downright fun.

"I never thought I could share my life like this. It's amazing. Years and years ahead with the best friend I'll ever have."

Another delightful BR with my girl Cass.

Deal Maker starts with a bang! Literally … a bathtub fell through Jude’s ceiling, almost landing on top of him. And that’s what provided our boys kismet.

Unfortunately the boys didn’t see it as such. All Asa saw was an air headed model and Jude being the unequivocal smartass decided to prove him … right? 🤣

And it was all downhill from there … not really. Nope, we endured one shenanigan after another until the boys had no choice but to realize what they should’ve seen all along … that they’re perfect for each other.

I’d bet good money that Amos is based on Marvin the Paranoid Android from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Even if he’s not I’m hearing Alan Rickman in my head.

Oh dear, the child’s tuxedo … I haven’t laughed that hard in a hot minute.

These two men … you would think a megastar actor and an underwear model would ooze confidence. But these two are just so vulnerable, both practically begging to be loved.

They’re each exactly what the other needs but burnt once abs twice shy.

I literally feel like I’m being torn in two. I thought the last book was emotional. Damn them both for ripping my heart in half! 🥺

This one started strong and ended even stronger. Unfortunately it lulled a bit much in the middle that kept me from giving it a perfect rating. That certainly doesn’t take away how much I adored these three guys, most especially Asa.

Ever since I read Rule Breaker, I've been keeping my eye out for new books by this author. Rule Breaker had some epic banter and I was hoping the trend would continue -- and it did!

Deal Maker is about family and friendship and learning how to let go of responsibilities that aren't yours and learning that you, too, can find happiness. That you deserve to find happiness.

I really enjoyed Jude's voice and his general approach to life. He may seem like he doesn't take anything too seriously, but the truth is, he takes everything way too seriously. He took it upon himself to drop out of school and take up an offered modeling career so he could help his family financially. He puts his own happiness last, and though that's not a healthy or sustainable way to live, indefinitely, I admired him for it, for a good portion of the story (a bit more on that later). Family is the most important thing to Jude and he pays it more than lip service and holidays.

Asa has a tendency to get wrapped up in his life, too, and he plays his cards close to his chest. He's had awful luck with relationships because he is a nice guy and always wants the people around him to be happy. That a dangerous way to be when others want to take advantage. Asa sees the best in people and he's not in the least bit snobbish. He loves socializing with people from all walks of life and just likes to be around real people.

Once he and Jude start a relationship, Asa knows he's in trouble because he's already too far gone to keep things at the 'just sex' level. Just watching Jude with Billy (Asa's adorable 5 year old son) sealed that deal. Asa tries, anyway, because Jude is a force of nature and Asa just can't say no.

They have a lot in common - they both love to read, they have similar temperaments, the people they consider to be family are very important to both of them, they're both dedicated and hard working and not afraid to make important sacrifices. They just fit. Jude is too stubborn for his own good, though, and nearly threw away a real chance at happiness because he couldn't get out of his own way -- and that's my only real niggle in this story.

Even still, Deal Maker is a solid 4 star read and I definitely want more!

Re-read 10/23

Still, one of my absolutes faves from Lily. It’s such a comfort read and in all good conscience, I can’t keep re-reading without rounding up.

Despite their 15 year age gap, Jude & Asa are kindred spirits; kind, clever, quick witted, loyal, and both, unfortunately, plagued by their pasts. From the very beginning, their chemistry sizzles, and you just know they belong together. They hit it off immediately, and Asa agrees to take on, strapped for cash, Jude as his PA, in return for free boarding. However, Asa’s good opinion very quickly nosedives on learning Jude’s occupation (he has his reasons). As payback, Jude pretends to be an absolute himbo, messing with Asa’s life and fan mail - it’s so funny and cracks me up every-time. It doesn’t take Asa long to realise how special Jude is though and as much as I enjoy the antics, I love it when Jude can just be himself 🫠

I love their journey, but romance aside, Jude actually falls in love not once, but twice. I challenge anyone who doesn’t fall in love with Asa’s 5 yo son too. Billy, is THE most adorable fictional kid, I’ve EVER had the pleasure to read about. He is just wonderful. From their hilarious meet cute, you just know you’re onto a winner. I love their dynamic so damn much!

So, why not a full five stars? Well, Lily loves evil ex theatrics (or ‘exes’ as is the case here). First time round, it didn’t bother me, but after you’ve read a few of her books, it’s difficult not to notice this running theme and it’s not a trope I particularly enjoy. Don’t let that put you off though, as the evil exes don’t get much page time.

Expect lots of love and laughter, sexy times, highly satisfying Dylan & Gabe cameos, great secondary cast, fantastic banter, fur babies (some more welcome than others 😂), coastal retreats and a heartwarming HEA. 4.5 Stars ⭐️

I loved Gabe and Dylan and “Rule Breaker” but I am heads over heels in love with Asa and Jude. 😍 This book is just epic .. like Billy would say. 😁 Seriously, I’m sure enough people have sang praises about this book but I’m going to do it again because it’s that kind of book that deserves all the praises in the world. 😉

Jude is really tired of people never seeing past his facade as a superstar model. He may be pretty and stunning AF but that doesn’t mean he has dumb model brain. When his flat got flooded out of a sudden, Jude found himself homeless and nowhere to go. And with a friend’s help, he found himself at the doorstep of Asa Jacobs, a prestigious film star who’s currently on a hiatus. Asa is one gorgeous man who captured Jude’s lust immediately but he also thought Jude is vain and dumb. Decided to take a revenge for Asa’s assumptions, Jude is now pretending to be as thick as a log and having onehelluva time with his mischiefs. 😂 But after they both realized that their first impressions of each other were wrong, they found a common ground between them and they started to really enjoy each other’s company. And for the first time in his life, Jude found himself falling in love and wanting to play house with Asa and his adorable and bright son Billy. But Jude has a past that won’t let him go and Asa is a deeply scarred man who’s afraid to love again. May be they both need to let go of their ugly pasts to move on and find solace in each other’s embrace.

As true to Lily Morton’s style, this is a very slow-burn book with a lot of UST and sensual flirtations. I just adore Jude. 🥰 His snarky comments and the way he pretended to be dumb was so soooo hilarious. This book is sarcasm gold mine! 😁 Asa really got taught .. lol 🤣 And Billy!!! OMG!!! I looooove Billy .. he’s just so adorable, bright, intelligent and cute as a button. 🥰 Loved him. And yes, I also loved the gentle giant Asa. 💜 The relationship between Jude and Asa took quite a lot of time to fully develop but I was all for this lovely journey. If I think the first book “Rule Breaker” was like a sexy cocktail with lots of sex, complications and scorching hot sex, “Deal Maker” is like a delicious warm pumpkin soup that warms your heart and make you smile and be contented the whole time you are listening/reading this book. 😍❤️ I just loved and adored this whole book. And I think Joel Leslie has outdone himself with impeccable and stunning performance in this audio. It was just finger-licking orgasmic good! Loved every second listening this book. And I already can’t wait for Henry’s story. 😋😉 A slow-burn, heartwarming contemporary romance at its best! Can’t recommend enough. 😌

I've read 1 other book by this author and liked that fine.

I like this one better. Not the least of which is because I keep envisioning Lee Pace as Asa:

description

Gorgeous, gorgeous man.... obsessed with him as Thranduil.

This can't possibly be a real pic - he's too private for it, but... I like it :)

description

Anywho... It was funny, made my chest hurt when Asa hurt. The only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is bc I feel like it dragged some toward the end and in the middle. I like the single dad trope. I love Asa.

Sex is pretty good.

I'll likely read more of this author.
