It only takes one moment to change everything.

Long ago, Heather left her old life behind. Now, she has everything: a marriage to a handsome executive, a managerial human resources position in a powerful multinational, and a beautiful daughter. And she will do anything to keep it that way. But everything has a price. When a bullet ends the life of another woman―an ex-employee whom Heather helped fire―it sets off a chain of events that jeopardizes everything for which Heather has worked. Events of Heather’s past soon collide with her company’s wrongdoings, and she must risk everything to expose them. But all she’s ever known is the peril of being visible. Frightened and desperate, Heather calls upon her constant childhood friends―friends who long ago saved her from a life of pain―and, together, they will once again face the events of a traumatic night that each has sought to forget. Because sometimes the only ones who can save you are those with whom you share your deepest and darkest secrets―those who know that fear is the price of silence.

Entangled Moon by E.C. Frey was a very interesting book. It starts off with a very disturbing brutal rape and murder. There are lots of triggers for this book including rape, child abuse, and more. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart and I found it to be pretty descriptive.

Entangled Moon has a lot going on and it's kind of hard to describe the plot. All I can say is that it is about 4 childhood friends that all have a lot of things going on in their lives, and not many of these things are good.

This book felt like it was trying way too hard to be relevant by covering too many topics. There is a conspiracy/cover up that ends up involving 2 of the friends, plus the subject of child abuse and how it used to be handled, plus a bunch of other topics. I got a little lost in some of it, and I also felt like it was much too wordy. The overall feel was pretty sad as well, and I didn't love the amount of closure (or not) that it provided.

The redeeming qualities for me were that it held my attention, and the strong female friendships. The female friendships were definitely my favorite part and how they had each other's backs ever since they were growing up. There was more than one mystery going on as well and I liked that it all tied together.

Final Thought: While this was not my favorite book, I didn't think it was all that bad. I think the author has talent, this book was just a bit over the top for me.

This was probably one of the most brilliantly confusing books I've read in a long time - and I think I mean that in the best way possible.

Thanks so much to Book Sparks for sending me an ARC of this book for an honest review, as always, all opinions are my own.

**TRIGGER WARNING: This book deals with a lot of very heavy topics including rape/sexual assault, domestic abuse, child abuse, self-harm, and more. I won't really get into these in my review, but just be aware if you decide to pick this one up.**

This story follows a bunch of characters, but I would say it primarily focuses on Heather, a woman who has left her old, abusive childhood and life behind, and is starting fresh with the perfect husband, adorable daughter, and good job at in an HR department of a major company. However, soon her old and new life collide. A woman ends up dead - one she helped fire - and even her friends are pulled into the destruction, secrets of the past resurfacing.

This is one of those books that is kind of all over the place but you just have to go with it because the story will sort itself out. Heather has 5-6 friends (I'm still not 100% on all of them) and we see each of their POVs, in addition to some supporting characters in the story. There is a lot to follow, but if you just let go of needing to keep all the characters straight, you will really enjoy this book.

I honestly don't think I've ever read a book quite like this one before and for that uniqueness alone, I'm bumping up my overall rating. The ways that the characters all becoming interwoven was really well done and the depth to which Frey went into each of them was great, especially for a book of this length. I think there were some loose ends that weren't perfectly tied up but I'm okay without knowing how everything was supposed to end up.

Overall, I think if you can just keep at this one, you won't be disappointed.

Entangled Moon is a debut novel, and I really had high hopes for it based on its premise. It actually starts out with a series of events that hooked me into the story, so I was drawn in and wanted to see what would happen as Heather's past comes back to haunt her, putting not only her future but her life in jeopardy. It is her five childhood friends, the ones who carry the same haunting secret, that must save Heather and together they face the past...once and for all.

Now while all the pieces are here for the making of a captivating, edge of your seat thriller, they just didn't quite fit together for a good read, especially since I was able to guess most of the twists that were coming. While Frey undoubtedly can write, the pacing was way off and dragged unnecessarily. I skimmed through several sections because she was overly wordy when the plot needed to move forward. I almost DNFd on several occasions, but I wanted (hoped) that the pace would pick up. Unfortunately, this could have been a really enjoyable novel, but it falls just short of the mark.

I couldn’t put this book down! I read it in two evenings, staying up late to finish it. There is a lot to follow --with many POVs and storylines -- but it is well worth the effort. The primary protagonist, Heather, has escaped an abusive childhood to create a new life. But a secret from her past, shared with her childhood friends, haunts her and threatens to destroy the life she has built. As she and her friends come together for their annual reunion, the threat becomes imminent and they realize they must finally confront it. Emotions are heightened and the tension palpable. Frey does a masterful job of revealing the nuances of memory from the POVs of her different characters in a thrilling story that took several unexpected turns and illustrated that things aren’t always what we think. To avoid spoilers, I won’t say more other than there was one twist in particular that I thought was especially satisfying. I loved this book and I’m excited to read more from this author.

What struck me most about this one was the strong friendship theme throughout, it was probably the thing I liked most about this book. While the pacing felt a little off, the dialog a tad inauthentic and overall there was just a sense of trying a little too hard to make this a relevant book, Frey’s ability to keep the reader hooked and build a twisty, dark mystery with a strong female cast kept me intrigued and reading til the end.

I’d recommend this to a reader who isn’t too picky about their mysteries and loves to read about some badass women

I was drawn to the blanket, you can see half-lighted Heather's face.

Heather's beautiful life a husband who loves him, a charming girl, everything changes when a ball ends the life of a woman. This will trigger events that put Heather's life in jeopardy. With her friends who helped her before she tried to fix it.

A well-crafted scenario, which holds up, the character of Heather tying. A captivating, engaging story full of suspense and twists. I recommend this book.

The opening rape scene was enough to make me put this book down over a year ago. Having little else to read I picked it up again and managed to finish it this time around. I found the writing style, the plot, the characters (basically everything) to be overdone; the author tried too hard, making the story drag. There were parts (including more than one rape of characters) that didn't add anything significant and certainly didn't keep my attention. I can't say I'm a fan.

This story, told from multiple views has the makings of a great novel.

Five best childhood friends have a secret that haunts them. Many years later, on their annual girls trip, they must face their demon.

All of the pieces were there for a riveting story. Sadly, for me, it did not hit its mark. The author has a vast vocabulary and can weave a tale. However, I felt she delved too deeply into a philosophical view, rather than keeping the pace of the story in mind.

Thank you to E.C. Frey and NetGalley for the ARC of Entangled Moon in exchange for my honest review.

Meh. The story is well developed. But the telling of it is hard to follow. The book reads in first person, but in 5+ characters’ first person. Super difficult to follow. 5 star story, 2 star delivery.

I received an ARC of Entangled Moon for an honest review. This is EC Frey’s debut novel. It is a mystery-thriller that involves five old friends that revisit buried secrets. Heather's friends try once again to save her life and sanity. The book is slow paced at first but by the end it draws you in.
