This is a graphic novel for young children. The story is simple, the illustrations are sort of cute, and the writing is decent. I'm not sure it's really my thing (it reads really young), but I can see it having appeal for younger readers who are just getting started with the graphic novel format.
There are some cute touches in the illustrations (like the titles of books characters are reading), and the whimsical setting gives the story a magical feel. Everything from a panda to a child somehow fits under a fly agaric mushroom, so we're obviously dealing with a bit of fantasy here (as if the talking mole and spiders didn't clue you in). But I kind of like the overall look of the book with its simple character drawings and clear facial expressions.

Poppy and Sam and the Mole Mystery graphic novel style book. Poppy and Sam are paying a visit to their friend Snuggles Molesy. Snuggles is upset looking for a lost pair of pretty pink glasses! Poppy and Sam offer to help by retracing Snuggles steps. They look all around the garden, along the shore of the creek, asking others they meet along the way, but do not find the glasses. They do find many other things though. They decide to set up a lost and found and invite all the other animals to come and see if they lost any of the items they found. As their friends find their misplaced treasures, they also find the pink glasses.
This is a cute story about retracing your steps to find something that has been lost. I also like that they do not keep the other items they find, but take the time to find the owners of all the other treasures they find. What a great message of helping one another, looking for lost items and reuniting found things with their owners. The illustrations were simple and fit the story perfectly. I read this to my grandson as he has a difficult time of looking for things. He gives up easily and doesn't understand the concept of moving things and really looking. He enjoyed the story and was happy that Snuggles found his glasses. I am not sure if this will help him when he is looking for something or not, but it was a fun read. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
Another good book that mixed an important message with good values, a funny story, beautiful art and even the possibility to had some search and find moment with your kid while reading. Perfectly executed!
This series is absolutely adorable and perfect for little ones not yet ready for graphic novels but who might enjoy that format. I love miniature worlds and this is sooo dang cute with a modern little Thumbelina type happily living amongst the little creatures of the garden (don't ask me why there's a miniature panda bear (koala-panda?) but it's cute, too, so go with it). Poppy lives in a pumpkin house, and Sam lives in a gourd house but the other creatures behaviors and homes are presented in fairly faithful renderings so there's a teensy bit of educational material here and also wee mysteries. My favorite is the first one, Poppy and Sam and the Leaf Thief, because it has a bit of an Alice in Wonderland talking flowers vibe, and even manages to make an earwig cute (and I hate earwigs)! Poppy and Sam and the Mole Mystery is a weaker story, but kids who enjoy search-and-find illustrations will probably enjoy that element immensely. I felt a little annoyed that Poppy interrupted so many creatures getting read to hibernate in Poppy and Sam and the Search for Sleep but maybe I'm just too sleep deprived myself -- I know it was meant to be humorous. All in all, charming series, between 3-4 stars for the lot. My almost-eight-year-old enjoyed them, too.
This author/illustrator is new for me and I was not even aware there was another book till i finished this one. Lucky for me they don't seem to go together, so I didn't miss anything. Whimsical fun and teaches children the kindness of returning something lost to its owner with a mysterious twist. The illustrations are simple, colorful and gorgeous to look at. Makes me want to walk through this forest of bright colors and cute little animals all day! #Netgalley #Poppyandsammystery
This series is the sweetest beginning graphic novel series for kids. With its mystery spin, adorable illustrations, and picture book layout, these will appeal to young readers who may be hesitant to try graphic novels.
Poppy and Sam and the Mole Mystery by Cathon is a picture book and graphic novel style book currently scheduled for release on August 13 2019. It’s a new day in the garden, and Poppy and Sam are paying a visit to their friend Snuggles Molesy. But Snuggles is in a pickle, looking for a lost pair of pretty pink glasses! Sleuths Poppy and Sam begin to investigate: all around the garden, along the shore of the creek, and even inside the pies Snuggles had been baking. Along the way, they ask the other critters they encounter. Poppy and Sam don’t have much luck finding the glasses, but they do come across a variety of other treasures: a flowered umbrella, a flute, a yellow spinning top, and more. By the end of the story, they set up a whimsical lost and found with all of these objects—and finally find the rosy specs, while their fellow garden friends find misplaced treasures of their own.
Poppy and Sam and the Mole Mystery is a cute story about retracing your steps to find something that has been lost. When Sam and Poppy visit Snuggles not only do they get to eat way to much pie- but that start off on an adventure t help their friend find his missing glasses. I like that they use the tried and true method of backtracking to find the missing glasses, and that they look for the owners of the other items they find along the way. I really like the story ending, and how the friends were able to help others that were in similar situations as they were when the story began. Readers can look on each page for hidden creatures and items to see if they can find the glasses, or the other items that they trio ruin across along the way. I liked the art, it was simple and subtle, which is all the story needed.
Poppy and Sam and the Mole Mystery is a fun and simple story. I think it offers a good beginner foray into graphic novels, and will appeal to animal fans in particular.
'Poppy and Sam and the Mole Mystery' with words and pictures by Cathon brings back our tiny sleuths for a new fun mystery.
Poppy and Sam visit their friend Snuggles the Mole. Snuggles has been baking, but has a problem. Snuggles has lost her pink glasses. Poppy and Sam are on the case. Along the way, they don't find the glasses, but they do find a lot of other lost items like umbrellas and earrings. They also talk to a number of animal friends along the way. Where could Snuggles' glasses be?
I liked the first book in this series I read, and I like this one just as much. The story is told in a cross between graphic novel and picture book. The story and characters are pretty cute. Little readers should have a good time with this one.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Owlkids Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.
Poppy and Sam go to visit their friend Snuggles the mole. Snuggles can’t find his glasses anywhere, so Poppy and Sam try to help him track them down. Where could those missing glasses be?
A cute graphic novel/picture book featuring friends trying to help each other out. This felt more like a game of hide-n-seek than a mystery, but I guess it technically was a mystery. I like how friendly and helpful the characters are to each other. I felt like there could have been more of an explanation about why the three searchers found so many other lost items on their hunt, but I know that even real people can be that absentminded about belongings. (Just take a look at your local school’s lost and found!) Hand this to animal lovers and fans of cute illustrations.
I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Poppy and Sam decide to go visit their friend, Snuggles Molesy, only to find the mole has lost his glasses. They all retrace his steps in their search for the lost glasses, finding many other lost items along the way. They finally find the glasses up a tree with Ms. Bat, and it seems they have found her lost hat. They set up a lost and found area to return the other items to their owners, and soon everyone is reunited with their lost things. This is a sweet story about helping your friends, and the illustrations are so cute and fun, filled with lots of color and detail.
Poppy, Sam and Mole search for one lost item results in finding so much more than they were looking for. New friends are made along the way in the comical and expressive story. Playful and productive in nature, this book will inspire seekers of lost things and ultimately sometimes you never know where a day might lead you and the unexpected outcomes that can culminate at the end of a day.
The book has adorable illustrations - we had fun looking at the details! I like that the book is written in the comic format - something different for our younger children. As such, it could be used as a great resource to teaching what speech bubbles are and how to tell when the characters are taking turn talking. Great book!
Cute, simple, and straightforward. I'm torn as whether or not to put it in picture books or comics, though. It's definitely written for the picture book crowd, and there are plenty of examples of comics-format stories in picture books. I wish they had made the book itself larger. Maybe when the first one comes in the next order, I'll put one in each place as an experiment...
When mole's glasses go missing, Poppy and Sam help him comb the forest looking for them. Where could they be? In the meantime, they find a whole treasure trove of things. That gives them the idea to start a Lost and Found spot and soon all the lost things are claimed.
Silly little creatures! I hope they can learn to be more responsible!
This is the story Poppy and Sam and how they try to find Snuggles' glasses. What will they do? Where will they look? They begin by looking all around the garden. Readers will love the pictures presented throughout this book. Each page is filled with detail. For these reasons I am rating this book 5/5 stars.
The Poppy and Sam books always have super cute and whimsical illustrations paired with a really compelling and wholesome story. I really liked the progression of this book with the characters finding all the lost items and then deciding to hold a lost and found so that everyone could get their stuff back! I think that it's a great message and a book that kids will love.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Cute book about losing your stuff and then attempting to find it with the help of friends. My grandkids enjoyed it but I would say this book is more for ages 3-5. Enjoy! 📚
A cute story about two friends helping another friend find their missing glasses. Along the way, they find a lot of possessions lost by other animal critters! They help everyone reunite with their stuff in the end. A wonderful story for a theme about friendship, sharing, and helpfulness!
Sweet graphic novel featuring a girl and a panda. Their friend loses his glasses so they retrace their steps looking for them. Along the way they collect all kinds of objects and find an inventive way of finding their owners.
This book included adorable and relatable characters who learn a valuable life lesson about returning lost items to their owners! The font was clear and easy to read, and I loved how the characters were drawn.
This was a short graphic novel definitely intended for lower grades like K-3. It was a cute adventure where Mole is searching for his missing pink reading glasses.
A picture book in the style of a graphic novel, two friends are trying to find Mole's glasses, a funny plot since moles have terrible eye sight. Funny pictures and story
