I will try to sum up this story as quickly as possible; I am clearly in the minority with Let it Snow.
A man and a woman met on a plane. They had opposite personalities. Both were single but he was engaged. There was a snowstorm and their plane was grounded. The two were fated to travel together in the last available rental car. The weather continued to work against them. I believe they spent three days at her father's house; sometimes the dad was there, sometimes he wasn't. The man was still engaged to the other woman but that didn't stop their attraction, kissing and wanting more. He left. She went back to work. Sad. A few days go by. He showed up at her door. Unengaged. In love. The end.
The characters gave me Luke and Lorelli vibes from the Gilmore girls which was cute. But that was this stories only saving grace. It was too short for me to actually connect to the characters. If this book was a bit longer it would have been nice to have a bit more character building. Really flesh them out. The storyline was cute but again it just needed a little more padding.
Let it Snow is a sweet Christmas story, as I've come to expect from Debbie Macomber. Shelley Girffin is headed home to Seattle for Christmas when a snow storm reroutes her flight. She decides to rent a car and drive the remainder of the journey. A mysterious and overly serious Slade Garner has the same idea, leading the unlikely pair to share the remaining rental car. It's essentially the same set up as Dashing Through the Snow by this author.
Although incredibly predictable, this novella was a cute story...and I can't help but chuckle at the very 1980s romance lead name of Slade Garner!
I almost forgot how much I loved these short novellas that Harlequin used to send to their subscribers at Christmas. I just recently found this one on a shelf and picked it up to read it.
Its only about 90 pages long, but the story is really sweet. Just the type of story you want to read around the holidays. It definitely keeps your hopes up for happy endings, in this world that's so full of gloom and doom. Debbie Macomber always delivers that kind of story, and I love her for it. Her characters are real and likable.
Sure I'm a sucker for romance novels. I openly admit it. But hey, everyone needs a little fantasy in their lives and this is my vice of choice.
A fabulous festive read. It's a small novella and I believe or wanted it to last a little longer, it ended a little too abrupt for me but I do love Debbie Macomber style so I am not complaining at all. There is a girl who lives in San Francisco but is trying to get home to Seattle to spend it with her father but the plane doesnt get her to Seatle. She hates flying so she rents a car but it's the last one and the man beside her on the plane, mr businessman wants it too to get to his meeting.. They join forces and travel together in the car but the snow is causing trouble on the road and they're close to the girls house. They get home and spade, the businessman stays for coffee and a new lease of life interrupts his life. He leaves when he can and she misses him.but goes home to San Francisco and hears nothing from him until the end. I love debbie writing, can never give a book of hers a bad review because they are just amazing .
On another week of so much stress, between COVID-19, protests, police brutality, George Floyd’s funeral (s), tweets, lawmakers silence, and on and on... this a breath a fresh air - no pun intended... it gives you hope, it gives you inspiration, it gives you two different views of lifestyles, it gives you unrequited love, and then going for the brass ring of your dreams. Never give up and never quit. Reach for the moon, if you should miss you’ll will land among the stars...
“Without even realizing it, Slade had granted her the priceless gift of expectancy. If he was capable of stirring her restless heart, then so would another.” 🖤 ⛄️ A snowstorm threatens to ruin Christmas for two mismatched strangers traveling to Seattle on the same plane together. ✈️
However, fate had something else in store for them. They were just so different from each other. Shelly Griffin and Slade Garner, both have to be at their respective destinations , decide to travel together in one rented car because their plane is rerouted to Portland due to heavy snowfall. The more time Shelly spent with Slade, the more she fell for him. Sparks fly and they fall in love!!! Christmastime is the most wonderful time of the year and this book will take you straight to December! ❄️
This book is gorgeous. The book as a whole was just plain addictive. I fell asleep so late last night just because I couldn’t put my Kindle down. I love Debbie Macomber’s writing. This was a really short read and took me hardly three hours to finish it! Her books are always an absolute delight and they always give me a feeling, that everything is going to turn out well at the end!! Highly recommended!
Classic Macomber, this short novel finds Shelly Griffin on a plane that is detoured to Portland, along with other passengers, including one Slade Garner. She's on her way home to spend Christmas with her father. He's on his way to secure some kind of business proposition.
But, snow has a way to halting flights, so they end up sharing a rental car to her place where still more snow keeps them together for days, including Christmas Eve. But after they cut down a tree and get to know each other a bit better, Slade leaves for his meeting and Shelly returns to her job in San Francisco, only to receive not one, not two, but three dozen roses and the man himself, who has changed his life course as a result of their meeting.
Will he be able to convince Shelly to accompany him? Read it for yourself.
Shelly Griffin and Slade Garner are passengers on the same flight from San Francisco to Seattle. But bad weather has caused rerouting to Portland. As the delay continued, Shelly and Slade found themselves making a deal at the car rental counter, as only one car was left. Shelly is excited and hopeful of arriving as soon as possible to enjoy spending time with her father celebrating Christmas on her short break from work. Slade is optimistic about accomplishing an important business meeting and securing an agreement before everyone’s gone for the holidays.
Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the rental car is so delightful. Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! Curl up with this touching Christmas story that warms the heart and glitters with love.
A heartwarming novella to read at any time of the year but all the more magical to read during the holiday season.
This Christmas novella has a few good things going for it: 1) The ending is worth an entire star. Loved it! 🌹 2) Shelly's dad, Don Griffin, is a great guy. Loved his hospitality and relationship with daughter Shelly. 🕺 3) Her horses Sampson and Pokey get to go out for a ride in the snow. Fun!🐎
What didn't work: 1) I don't think this book has aged well. It is a Harlequin freebie from 1986 and is a bit cringey, especially in the descriptions of the kissing. 2) And what on earth is Shelly doing kissing another woman's fiance'? Slade is engaged while they are stranded together at her dad's house. Still she keeps throwing herself at him. She just can't help it. 3) The bantering was pretty lame. At one point he calls her a "karate mouth."
So, not the best work I have read from Debbie Macomber. That cover sure is adorable, though!
I was hooked within the first five or six pages. I began to read this when my husband and we’re on a brief vacation. Every so often I would gasp or whisper a comment about the story. I wanted Shelly and Slade to have the opportunity to spend the ride together. However, as the story progressed, each part f the plot transitioned into an even better part. The story was so addictive that I had to finish it but at the same time I did not… because I wanted this story to continue. What a lovely tale of humor, respect, taking chances, admitting the truth, and opening your heart.
I really enjoyed this story. When it starts out Shelly hates to fly but she is headed home to spend Christmas with her Dad. There is a business man across the aisle from her who has been working out of his briefcase the whole time they were flying. Now the plane has been delayed because of a snow storm.
They decide to rent the only car available and drive her to her Dad's and he will continue on to his meeting. This book is a short read but it has an awesome story. I read it straight through. I think you will enjoy it.
As it was meant to be a short story from the editor.. it was cute. Not a lot of detail and for a simple short it was a very quick read with only 90ish pages. As far as the story goes.. it was cute however, I preferred Alaskan Holiday.. I wanted more drama with the fiancé and the weather.. not my favorite but still worth a read if you love Debbies stories and want a fast one to end out the holiday season!
I enjoyed this book immensely! I could not put it down until the very end. Loved the first impressions of the characters involved , this story had some neat twists from fear fac tors to hazardous travel conditions! The thrill of unexpected circumstances and heart fluttering emotions of falling in love! Always expect a good read from Debbie Macomber....definitely not disappointed again!
Likeable characters, traveling via plane from San Francisco to Seattle, share a car to drive the rest of the way there when their plane is forced to land in Portland due to snow. They manage to get to her Dad's home south of the city for Christmas Eve dinner. The roads close meanwhile and he is forced to stay put. They have time together to realize they are a perfect match, however, there is the little hitch of him already being engaged to HIS perfect match.
I'm not big on romance but this is just a fun, quick read that really entertained me...in spite of its predictability. Two strangers, flying on the same plane just days before Christmas, become stranded when the airport in their destination city is snowed in. They both decide that they will attempt to drive the remaining miles. Shelly and Slade could hardly be any different but they say that opposites attract and these two really do. Just a great holiday read.
Shelly is on her way home to see her Dad for Christmas. Because of the weather, her flight is delayed. There is one car available to take her to her Dad's house. The only problem is that Slade, a man from the same airplane trip, wants the use of the car too. Two complete strangers come together and fall madly in love after 2 days. You know- the usual.😆
Christina is a young professional who runs a Toy store in Nantucket, she is longing for a husband and children, but never seems to meet the right guy for her. She is all alone in the world, having both her parents die within the year. Then she meets Andy and can't believe her good luck. Will Christina and Andy find their perfect life together?
This was a very quick read. Shelly and Slade meet while traveling. Due to bad weather they end up sharing a rental car and slowly get to know each other. Yes, Slade is engaged, but getting to know Shelly and spending time with her and her father makes him realize his carefully planned future isn’t what he wants anymore. He wants to follow his dreams and his heart.
I enjoyed this clean, romantic, snowstorm of a story. I've voluntarily chose to review this story and I've given it a 4.5* rating. It's one of those attraction at first sight things, that leads to a few twists and turns on this holiday weekend. It kept me interested and wanting to know how it turned out. I've enjoyed several of Debbie Macomber's books and I look forward to more.
Sometimes you just want to clear your mind with an easy, short read. I'm a new follower of Debbie's even though she's authored multiples. The adaptation to movies caught me! This is a short story but well worth the read. Debbie is fabulous at making you feel like you personally know the characters which in turn makes her reads hard to put down!
I started this book and read one chapter last night before turning out the light for bed. The cat woke me up early this morning with her crazy shenanigans and I didn't feel like getting out of my cozy bed, so I started to read and finished the book in no time. It's a very enjoyable and quick read and if you're deciding whether or not to buy it, go for it. Enjoy!
Feeling extremely generous & giving this 3 stars. Can’t decide if this was the sweetest or silliest thing I read this year. I laughed more than the author probably intended readers to. This is one of those things that would only happen in a silly daydream of a ridiculously hopeless romantic, a 𝓃𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁𝓁𝒶 in all its glory. It served its purpose of adding one more read to my 2023 list ✨
This was a 2.5 to 3 stars for me. I personally don't care for stories where a character has a fiancé but kisses another character after knowing each for justba few days. It also felt like it needed to be just a little longer to develop things a bit more. I plan to give other books by this author a try but this one wasn't for me.
