Evergreen is a tribute to the enduring resilience of human nature as we cycle through times of light and darkness, much like nature itself. In her debut book, Kirsten Robinson (@NakedWriting) lays her heart bare in a raw, relatable and inspirational way to describe the journey of growth born out of finding beauty in breakage and love after loss. This artfully honest collection embodies and expands upon the poetry and prose Robinson began writing under the popular social media pseudonym Naked Writing.
Kirsten Robinson is a writer, editor and author based in New York City. She began publishing poetry under the social media pseudonym Naked Writing in 2017, and now runs her own writing business by the same name. EVERGREEN is her first book.
This is a book to read everyday, like a devotional. A homage to knowing yourself better, loving yourself more and connecting to other people and the world at large. It's a small volume of poetry, but more like self help and motivational passages. Read a page each day, open it at random and read what it offers. I promise that the power of words will soothe what aches deep inside, and best of all, it will encourage and empower the little girl inside of each woman to never be ashamed of everything she feels.
It's all valid and she doesn't need validation from outside of herself. I love the way writings like this encourage women to be a tribe yet not fear standing alone when it comes down to it.
Every book has a voice, and Evergreen tells you with compassion, and boldness, that you are perfect the way you are.
From the very first page of delicate words, it feels like you’re sitting across from your guardian angel, and they’re telling you everything you’ve been yearning to hear. And in this case, your guardian angel is Kirsten Robinson.
This talented author has created a book for us to pour ourselves into, as she has poured herself into the crisp pages of this novel. Each page is tailored with the reader in mind, reassuring them their thoughts aren’t crazy or abnormal—that they aren’t broken, everyone falls, and no one is perfect. She understands the pain we hesitate to show, and she caters to the thoughts we don’t dare to acknowledge.
“You don’t need to be a fortress to be strong. You don’t need to build walls to keep yourself safe. Open the windows and let the breeze breathe life into your bones. Go outside, touch the earth with your bare hands, and remind yourself how it feels to plant the seeds of love and watch them bloom into something beautiful. Water those flowers well; your garden will reawaken in the sun.”
Evergreen has such a beautiful quality in that it brings you inner peace because it is so real and relatable, everyone can nod their head and reflect on their own reality to the words in this book. And isn’t that subconsciously what all of us bookworms are looking for in a book? For a voice to feel familiar even though we have not heard it, to feel understood by the paper pages that have not seen the world? All anyone wants is to be loved and understood, and the poems in this book give you just that and more.
I also think it was very clever, whether it was done intentionally or not, that the poems do not have titles. They are clearly spaced and have their own pages, so it doesn’t blend through, each poem stands on its own. But, I feel it almost makes this book feel more like a personal letter to the reader. The reader doesn’t stop to read the title, they keep reading through, like reading a letter from a trusting and dear friend.
Dear little bird Please know that You will be ok With a little bit of faith Take a deep breath And leave your tree Even if you start to fall The wind and your wings Will carry you
Evergreen is laced with wisdom, heartache, empowerment, unconditional love, and hope. If you’re looking for a deep thought-provoking book that you can relate to and share with others, be sure to checkout this gorgeously done poetry book. Thank you, Kirsten Robinson, for sharing your beautiful talent with the world and giving us such caring and kind words to hold onto.
I didn’t know why it took me so long to pick up this book.
But on this beautiful Sunday evening, I finally got to read it. This poetry collection is one to cherish and I absolutely love it. It found me at the right time and I got teary so many times while reading. Kirsten’s writing is so raw and so gentle. I just want to hug her and say THANK YOU for writing this. As someone who’s gone through a lot these past years, these poems really made me feel seen and heard. There are so many emotions that I’ve finally understood after reading Kirsten’s poems. She explained to me the feelings I’ve felt. I know it took me so long to read it, but I think I am meant to read it this particular time.
Loved this little gem. Full of thought provoking ideas. I understood her message on every page. It made me feel normal, that someone else has thoughts similar to my own. Will share this book with others!
I really loved this book. So inspiring and I felt that I could quote many things in it and send it to beloved. This is a good book to end January with.
Normally I do not ready poetry and short-form prose. However, Before You Cheat, Know This was read in a ZOOM meeting that I attend and I really enjoyed it ,even though it made me cry. Not only did I read her book in one day but I wrote in it, I highlighted in it, I put hearts on pages that I loved and i added tabs so that I could go back to poems during my journey of love, loss and personal growth. Ms. Robinson not only bares her heart but she shows her vulnerability and empathy in her writing. It was therapeutic for me to read.
This book is a reminder that no matter what unexpected challenges you encounter, what difficulties you face; no matter how lost, confused, broken or afraid you feel—you will persevere. There is hope waiting for you around the corner. I wrote this because at different points in my life, I did not believe in my own ability to persevere, and I felt the opposite of strong. But what I learned along the way was that when life is handing you setbacks that make you feel like you’re stuck in the depths of winter, it really is preparing you to find your endless summer. I wrote this for you. You are stronger than you could have ever imagined. Your heart is a garden, and within it blooms strength.
I was asked to read this book in exchange for an honest review but it took me a year to open it and let it's honesty, authenticity, and perception wash over me.
It was a beautiful compilation of finding purpose in pain, understanding when none was shown to you, hearing someone out when they tuned out your truth.
And finding peace even if the person you loved didn't chose you.
Her words truly do help you heal, feel, and grow into more of who you were made to be, not expected to be or told to be, which leaves any reader feeling truly free.
What a joy it was to read Kirsten’s collection of poetry and writings. She seems to be a very positive person, and her poetry uplifts and inspires her readers to keep going; care for yourself; be patient for the one true love who is out there waiting to find you. I think she is an excellent poet/writer and I look forward to reading more from her. I highly recommend this collection for any lover of poetry!
I love these little books of poems that you find from an up and coming author on IG. A lot is a about heartbreak, so it was sometimes unrelatable. I enjoyed it, nonetheless

Albeit a cliche, the book jumped off the shelf and into my hands when I saw it in Hickory & Hill General Store in Cranford.
This artfully honest collection embodies and expands upon the poetry and prose Robinson began writing under the famous social media pseudonym Naked Writing.
I highly recommend this book and intend to keep it at my bedside for a pick me up.
Although I have only started reading the poems, I want to share two that resonated with me.
The first one is on giving thanks.
Give thanks for all that is good and beautiful; the gifts you carry people who lift you up your big, big love faith and trust that your life is unfolding as it should
Give thanks for all that has been difficult and hard; trials tribulations tears tests of self strength fears all of the unknowns and days that broke you
Without the darkness you would not have learned to appreciate the light
A second one on bravery.
Bravery is not about standing tall after you've climbed up the top of a mountain
Bravery is looking fear heartache rejection terror loss death in the eye and saying, "no, not today"
Bravery is standing back up after you've been brought down to your knees
Isinya pun aku rasa semua orang pasti relate, terutama perempuan ya. Worth to read and worth to purchase.
first off this cover is gorgeous, even though it’s so minimal. Evergreen reminded me of a garden and i knew there was gonna be some really good affirmations/poetry about growth and finding ways in protecting yourself in order to grow. i loved this so much! 🤍
