They dated twelve years ago. Because of an anonymous dating app, they’re about to unknowingly date each other again.
Timini Jensen doesn’t think there’s a point to dating. Relationships drag people down. After all, nobody runs faster when they’re in a three-legged race, right? Plus, there’s the part where she seems to pick guys who are only pretty on the outside.
When a friend asks her to test a new dating app his company made that doesn’t allow users to see pictures of potential matches, she tries it out. Since it’s all anonymous and she’s not even looking for someone to date, it’s harmless.
Except she really connects with a guy she’s been messaging—Jackson.
He’s sweet. And great to chat with. The fact that he’s her opposite makes their conversations that much funnier and more interesting.
And she’s about to find out that he is actually her high school ex-boyfriend, Jack Oliver. The guy whose personality flipped when his family’s business suddenly started doing extremely well. The guy who ripped her heart out.
Now she doesn’t know if she can trust that he’s the sweet, funny Jackson she has gotten to know so well through messages, or if he’s the too-good-for-everyone Jack she remembers from high school.
All she knows is that chances are good that she is not going to fall for her ex.
Meg Easton is the USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romances and romantic comedies with fun, memorable, swoon-worthy characters, and settings you’ll want to pack up and move to. She lives at the foot of a mountain with her name on it (or at least one letter of her name) in Utah. She loves gardening, bike riding, baking, swimming before the sun rises, and spending time with her husband and three kids.
I really enjoyed this series, and thought this book was a good conclusion. Wrapped up everything nicely. Timini is a likeable character, I liked how she joins a dating app and ends up being unknowingly matched with her old high school boyfriend! They get to know each other on the app, not realizing who the other actually is. I thought this was a fun plot device and enjoyed watching things unfold. The overall story was fun, I like the setting and supporting cast. I like that it stands well on its own, but it was also fun seeing characters from the previous books.
A fun series and I look forward to reading more from Ms. Easton!
It was so much fun to jump back into this series. I've been reading them as each book was released but when this one was released life was crazy and I missed reading it. But I finally corrected that and read and enjoyed it.
Timini was the one roommate from this group of friends that I'd been waiting and waiting for her story. And it did not disappoint. I love this author's writing style and characters and stories. I was happy immersed again with this fun group of friends/roommates. Timini is the character who is a little scatter-brained sometimes but is the sweetest and most creative person. Poor girl starts off the book with a bit of a crazy morning and I'm going to say fiasco. Hahaha! And we're off and running with her character. Her roommates have been encouraging her to date but every date she's been on has not been the best, so why go on another one?
Finally caving she agrees to test out a dating app made by a friend and the rest is history. I loved all the fun surprises throughout. I didn't read the synopsis before I picked it up and loved the little surprises I was able to have because of not reading it.
I loved the fun banter and friendship that developed between Timini and Jackson. They were so much fun. And there's great chemistry as well. I was very happy with how the overall book played out and can't wait to read the next one.
Content: Clean. Some kisses but nothing more.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
One of my favorite things to do is dive into a book without knowing much about it. For me, that only works best when I know and trust an author and love the series--and what a fun surprise! That's exactly what I did with this one.
I couldn't wait for Timini's story and was slightly unsettled when she succumbed to her friend's new dating app, especially when she matched with and formed an instantaneous connection with an old boyfriend, Jackson--but didn't know it was him! I could see the collision coming and couldn't look away, and that clash led to some awkward and tense moments, but also brought some significant swoon. The witty banter caught my heart and attention and I was completely engrossed in their tale.
As with all of the books in this series, one of the delightful nuggets is the whole cast of characters and their interactions with each other. I feel a part of this fictional group of friends and adore them and their differences, strengths, and weaknesses so much. Timini is a perfectly imperfect short-and-sassy character and Jackson is flawed and fantastic. Together they rocked the finale (I think) of this series as they navigated their way through this story. Loved. It!
Content: mild romance (kissing)
*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
Meg Easton books make me so happy! I love the way she includes romance, a bit of comedy and great characters. This one has all of these as well as a great plot. I was kind of kicking myself that I haven’t read all of these yet. Reading them all in order probably would have made them make more sense, but reading on their own does work. I did read How Not to Fall for the Guy Next Door. Reading the rest is on my list.
I loved Timini! She’s the type of girl who is always late, wears high heels and coasts in to the city on fumes. And she accidentally finds her ex-boyfriend on a brand new dating app. It made me smile that he was always in trouble some way or another. She’s just really great.
Then there’s Jackson. Jackson is the type of guy who always wakes up at 6, makes his bed, works out and tries to beat his record getting ready. I loved the way he and Timini connected over texting through the dating app. They are complete opposites, but perfect for each other.
And then they meet. Timini realizes that Jackson was the guy who broke her heart. And that’s when everything falls apart.
I’m not going to tell you what happens from there, you’ll have to read it. But the journey was worth it. I loved the whole book!
I was sent an e-copy of How to Not Fall for Your Ex as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.
This is another cute addition to this series. I've enjoyed all the stories about this group of friends who find love in different ways. The build up in this one was good and I enjoyed getting to know Timini and Jackson through their online chats. Sweet romance.
This was a really fun one! Timini's somewhat flighty, scattered personality is a hoot, and I loved the glimpses we had into her business and goals and the way she thinks in general. Jackson was an incredibly great guy for having been a jerk at one point in his life, and I loved, loved, loved his family, especially his sister Emma. I wasn't sure how on earth his down-to-the-minute schedule was going to work with Timini's randomness, but the little glimpses we had of something fun behind his measured exterior were enough to make me want to watch and see. And oh--the scenes where they were filling out their dating profiles were so much fun!!!
But beyond the overall likeability, I loved the fact that Jackson was willing to own up to his mistakes--past and present--and do everything he could to make things right. And their conversations over text were incredible and had me rooting for them so hard long before they ever met in person. (Which of course was incredibly awkward.) But I also liked watching them take the hesitant steps toward seeing if a rekindled in-person relationship could work like it had in text. :) And I liked that their insecurities were the kind that made sense with their pasts and didn't seem thrown in just for the sake of creating drama.
My only real dislike was the talk about Timini's mom having live-in boyfriends--it was never presented as a positive thing, but I still didn't like dwelling on the thought. And we never found out exactly what her sister's relationship status was. But that was about my only complaint. And now I'm kind of sad this series is over. <3
Content--some embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions; mentions of kissing and touching; mentions of a woman living with her boyfriend(s); mentions of abandonment and toxic relationships
I have loved this series!! The characters are quirky, fun and seriously loyal to each other. Meg Easton has put them all together without making it feel like a cliffhanger, but as people you want to get to know better. I’m sure they would be interesting in any order but better consecutively. Meg, just a hint, but I want to know more about Evie, please.
Meg Easton did it again with a fantastic book! How To Not Fall For Your Ex is the last in the series and I was sad to say goodbye to this great group of friends! The end was golden and was the perfect way to end a series! Timini has lots on her plate and is hesitant to date. Roman, Bex’s husband, just created an app that Timini suggested that doesn’t show pictures, just the info. Timini finally gives into trying it out and is surprised how quickly someone amazing gets connected with her. And an even bigger surprise when it’s her Ex! Jackson has already gone thru quite a change since highschool and is still figuring out where his place is and how to navigate this new world while still being true to himself. How Timini (I was definitely saying her name wrong in my head) and Jackson navigate giving a relationship a try again is beautiful. The respect and care they have while exploring things is something we can all learn from.
The love story is adorable and for real @megeaston_author is a genius when it comes to the end of a book!
Timini and Jackson's story was so fun to wrap up the roommates stories. How disorganized Timini was made me crazy. I'm so much like Jackson that I really prefer order and structure. I loved how they balanced each other out and were better together without changing each other. There were a lot of uncomfortable situations and the author was too good at writing those- I was uncomfortable right along with them. I love the friendship the roommates have a well as Jackson and his sister. I recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys a good clean humorous romance.
This was a great ending to a 4 book series on four roommates that all find love. Timini was the final story and it’s so cute how she finds love on a new dating app, and it just happens to be her ex from high school. Jackson is great and buys her tacos so win win.
Favorite quote: I am not in awe. I am in shock. An angry, disbelieving, furious shock. A couple thousand people are beta-testing Chat Match. Over three million people live in Portland and the surrounding areas. And I match with Jack Oliver. The one guy I have connected with—the only guy I have connected with in years—and it has to be the one who so thoroughly broke my heart years ago.
I loved her a lot back in high school. Enough that it took a very long time to get over her and move on. It really didn’t take long into our relationship this time around before I fell for her just as deeply. And I’ve been falling even more in love with her daily since then.
I revisited this book by listening to the recently released audio book, and it was a very satisfying read. The tropes include second chance romance, "you've got mail", dating app romance. I liked the premise that a couple tries to make a connection based off of getting to know each other without knowing what the other looks like. Like most Meg Easton books, the characters have an abundance of supportive friends and family, so it's an all around feel-good story. Super sweet and clean. The narration is well done, and is the same narrator from her other books.
– this is the last of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Timini & Jackson’s points of view
Review:
It only took me forever to finally start reading the last book to this series (I really didn’t want to leave these spunky ladies! 😂😅🥺) but I’ve finally done it! Timini is a whirlwind of tasks and mishaps and I loved every second of seeing her grow as an entrepreneur and a person throughout this story! Jackson was such a sweetheart (when he didn’t let his fears get in the way). I loved that even before they really knew each other, Jackson looked to show Timini how much he paid attention to what she said and how she might need help in some areas (like remembering to eat while doing a big project). I also loved that despite everything that came up, Timini chose to forgive Jackson and tried to make things work with him, even though it meant risking her heart once again. Some of my favorite scenes included: Jackson getting help from his sister to set up his dating profile, Timini & Jackson’s digital ‘date’ with the rest of the roommates, meeting Timini’s family (and her nieces/nephews), and the rooftop scene. 😍
Timini hasn’t had much luck in finding a good guy to date. She tends to lean towards the pretty ones that don’t last long. So when her friend’s husband creates a dating app that doesn’t have any pictures to view, Timini thinks about joining. Even though she isn’t sure that she wants a relationship that could end up being serious.
Jackson is done having people fawn over him in order to get something from him. Whether it be because of his wealth or his status in a large company, Jackson doesn’t like it when people change their intentions after finding out either fact. He wishes there was a way to meet someone who wants to get to know him as a person and not be looking towards what he could do for them. Luckily, someone he knows recently released a dating app that just might help him with this desire.
Both Timini and Jackson are shocked to find someone they really connect with on the app. They can’t stop waiting for another message from their top match, but neither of them realize that they actually know each other. In fact, they even used to date. Until everything went downhill…
Will Timini and Jackson want to reconcile their past hurts to find a future together once more?
So this series follows four roommates - Addison, Bex, Payton and Timini. Addison is a space organizer, Bex is a Youtuber, Payton is a personal chef and Timini is costume designer. When Addison inherits an inn from her aunt, she decides to move across the States and live there. Since it's too big for only one person and she doesn't want to run it as an inn, she decides to find other women to live with her. And on a conference for creative people she finds this incredible bunch of kind and lovely women. I read the series in order and though probably you could read the books as a stand alone, I definitely recommend to follow the stories as they develop. I would say Bex's story was my favorite, then Timini's, then Payton's and lastly Addison's. Great stories and very well told. This is the last in the series, Book 4. Timini is self-sabotaging all her relationships (according to her roommates), so she thinks it would be best if she has the chance to meet a guy without knowing how he looks. She gives the idea of her friend Roman, who has an app company, to develop a dating app with no pictures. He jumps at the idea and when the testing version of the app is ready Timini tries it out. Jackson also knows Roman because they travel at the same business circles and is another tester of the app. He wants to find a woman to marry who will see his for himself and not for his money. So Timini and Jackson connect really well through the app. But what will be their reactions when they find out that the boy and girl whom they dated in highschool... I loved them. they were so cute together. And a great end of the series. *dreamy sigh* Narrative: 3rd person following Timini and Jackson Religion: none Sensuality: clean, only some kissing
Great way to end a series! This book was cute and told the story of Jackson and Timini very well but also gave us a good look at the other couples from the previous books so it felt like closure to the entire story. However, I also felt like the side characters were fleshed out enough that they could have their own stories too someday in kind of a continuation. If the author felt to do so. The older neighbor ladies would make interesting lead romance characters.
I loved Timini though admittedly she has personality traits that drive me a little crazy, like being consistently late... Still she is a wonderful person and very likable. I loved the idea of her accidentally falling for her ex through a dating app. Their banter was fun and really their chemistry was so good we knew early on they'd be good together even if they had to go through their ups and downs. I loved that Jackson owned up to his own weaknesses from his youth and was trying to be a better person. He didn't try to give excuses for his poor behavior in high school and beyond and had gone back to being the type of person he was in the beginning of their first romance. With insecurities unfortunately but still he's a better person. I also thought it was interesting that instead of their being a "mean girl" character to cause problems we had a "mean guy". I know that happens in other books too but it seems like how this played out, it is usually a mean girl.
Like I said, it was a great way to wrap up the series and I enjoyed reading this.
No sex, language or violence *I received a complimentary ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
What a great way to end a series! I have really loved this entire series. I think you could technically read this as a standalone book, but I honestly feel it's so much better in context. They aren't super long books so it wouldn't take forever to catch up, but they also don't feel like the storylines got rushed.
Timini and Jackson each agree to help a friend test a new dating app where there's no pictures and you don't have to really give too much information away. Timini likes it because she tends to like what's on the outside but what's inside doesn't seem to match. Jackson doesn't want girls to try to date him because of his money or family connections so he likes that the app doesn't include his last name and no one can do an internet search on him. When these two happen to hit it off, they have absolutely no idea that they dated back in high school and had a rough break up. Will a second chance be enough to make it work?
The entire concept of two exes chatting on a dating app that doesn't give away enough information from them to realize until they met in person had me cracking up. As the reader, you already went in kind of knowing what was going to happen and it was being confirmed throughout the book by things that Timini and Jackson were saying. Like when Timini told her roommates she went by Minnie (Jackson's exes name) or how they were clearly describing the same things but it was so vague that they didn't pick up on it. Such a good storyline.
I feel like the sign of a good series is when you're sad to say goodbye to the characters. And I definitely felt this way after reading this series. I did really like getting constant updates from couples from previous couples throughout the series, especially with the epilogue in this particular book. I highly encourage this whole series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review.
So, I may have been counting down the days until this book made its way into my life simply because I knew based on my enjoyment of Meg Easton's other How to Not Fall series books that this was going to be good. I had high expectations for Timini's story and trust me, I am happy to report this book did not disappoint. Full of witty banter and the kind of sweet moments that make you sigh; this contemporary romance was a fantastic read. Timini and Jackson were high school sweethearts that parted in a bad way. Years later they both sign up for a dating app where they "double tap" one another and begin a flirtation via the app's messenger. At first I wasn't sure how they wouldn't figure it out based on their names, but I was pleasantly surprised at the plot twists that kept their true identities and former connection a secret as long as it did. I also enjoyed the balance they provided one another and the connection they shared. A cute clean romance, I definitely recommend this novel and the entire series. They can all be read as standalones, but they are so much fun to read in order. I received an advance reader copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Timini is the last of the four roommates without a partner. She agrees to be a beta tester of a new dating app put together by her roommate, Bex’s husband, Roman. The app bases it’s matches on the applicant’s bio, likes and dislikes, what they’re looking for in a partner, but doesn’t show any photos. It’s a very cute premise because we know from the beginning that the main couple are texting back and forth without knowing that they were sweethearts in high school. Their relationship did not end well. I really liked how their new relationship developed. Timini is a very forgiving person. There were a few bumps along the way, but I like the way they talked and resolved their issues instead of letting them fester for weeks. Jackson was a bit of an ass, but he realized it and overcame it quickly It was a lovely ending, but bittersweet. I’ve really enjoyed this series and although I was happy that each of them found their happy-ever-after it was sad to see them all moving out of the Inn. This was a very sweet, feel good story. I highly recommend it. I received an ARC from the author, but this is my honest review.
Timini's job as a costume designer sounds so interesting, but she has a little problem with organization and getting to places on time. She has no luck with men, so she agrees to help Bex's husband Roman beta test his new dating app. Jackson is tired of women wanting him for his money and he likes the idea of his friend's dating app where your matches don't know each other's last names, there are no pictures, and he can get to know someone before they find out how much he's worth. He and Timini chat for weeks and fall for each other no knowing that they have a history and she hasn't forgotten the pain he caused her. I loved that Jackson took note of so many things that made Timini happy from their chats like the taco trio and that she's rather have donuts than flowers. There was much made about her short height. I'm short too and have climbed shelves in stores to reach the top one. Thank goodness for step stools and heels. Their relationship isn't all light sweet fun and they have their share of misunderstandings and cause each other pain. But Jackson is sweet and romantic with his apologies.
This book caps off a wonderful series about four talented, winsome young women who roomed together and became best friends who had vowed not to fall in love. Of course, one by one they all failed to keep that vow and instead found the loves of their lives. This story centered around Timini and her ex-high school boyfriend, Jackson, who came back into her life through a dating app that featured chatting with no picture of the person. They both had some personal issues to deal with that had to be sorted out before they could be together but their romance was very sweet and swoony. One of my favorite parts of the book was the epilogue where we were all updated on the next stage in the ladies’ lives. It was so bittersweet and so full of hope and joy—sometimes when life changes, even for a wonderful new chapter, it is hard to say goodbye to what we loved about the old chapter. I loved it—loved the whole series! Makes me want to have a dance party. Highly recommend! I was entrusted with a copy of this book by the author and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Two people looking for someone special but really THEM? What happens when you use a dating app that has no pictures only written information? How do you know they will be what you want? Those are the questions facing Timini when she realizes picking by looks isn’t working for her and a friend allows her to be one of the test users on his new dating app without pictures. Will she be able to choose wiser when looks aren’t a factor? Jackson is tired of attracting women who only want his status and money. He wants someone to see him as a person not a member of a successful business family. So, when he is given the chance to test a new dating app without pictures or last names he’s ready to give it a try. But what happens when it turns out that the perfect person has history with you and it isn’t a good thing? Do you walk away or try again? A fun read presenting real examples of how past history can affect current behavior and choices. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review
This was the first Meg Easton novel l had read and l thoroughly enjoyed it. Based on the premise of a dating app that contained no pictures and only Christian names, the two key protagonists, Timini, a somewhat disorganised costume designer, and Jackson, a very organised international businessman, end up double tapping on each other’s profiles thereby creating a match. Testing the new app for a friend, they get to know each other really well online while Jackson is out of the country due to work commitments for three weeks and seem to really get on well. On Jackson's return they agree to meet up. However, that's when they discover they used to go out together in High school (when they use to go by Minnie and Jack) and things did not end well. The rest of the novel follows the ups and downs of reestablishing a relationship when trust issues are present on both sides. I can recommend this for anyone looking for an entertaining read with some laugh out loud moments. I have not as yet read the first three books in the series, but am eager to get them and read them as well.
This is the fourth book in the How Not to Fall series. I have to say, this is quite an addicting series. Everytime I finish one book, I just want more! I'm so sad to see this series end! But Ms. Easton did a lovely job of wrapping it up nicely. She has put together a fun plot with Timini joining a dating app and being paired with none other than her old high school flame, Jackson. Not knowing who each really is, they chat online and get to know each other. When they finally meet in person, Timini realizes Jackson is the one who broke her heart all those years ago. Their journey is one well worth reading. Ms. Easton has created these great, endearing characters which I immediately fell in love with. This is a story full of heart, and I couldn't stop turning the pages till I finished. Ms. Easton is an amazing author and I will definitely always pick up one of her books, no question about it! I can't wait to see what's next!
I was given a complimentary copy by the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.
How I will miss these 4 women and the men they fell in love with! They vowed to not fall in love but we all know what happens when a vow like that is made! Love sneaks up on you and takes hold of your heart! This story is the last in the series. You don't have to read the other books to know what is going on but I encourage you to read them just for the enjoyment of them! This is Timini and Jackson's story. They dated seriously in high school only to break up when Jackson's family became wealthy and Jackson became a little too full of himself. His personality changed and Timini just didn't want to be with him anymore. I can certainly understand that! Fast forward 10+ years and both of them are doing well for themselves but they want love in their lives. However, they just can't find "the one" so they agree to test a dating app for a mutual friend. They end up being "matched" but have no idea of the identity of each other. Love and deep friendship blooms until the inevitable meet in person" date comes along! They realize who each other is and things don't go well! I loved how the author went through the ups and downs - several, in fact! - of trying to figure out another relationship, one that is different than high school. There is a lot of forgiving to be had! This is a great story with so much heart, forgiveness, love & joy! A must read!!!!
This a wonderful second chance tale. Timini & Jackson were high school sweethearts however his family made it big and he became a different man.
Timini is a tiny, quirky & is extremely wary when it comes to relationships esp with her mother’s dating history & her breakup with Jack.
Well it’s rather predictable but in a good way when they both sign up for a dating app which one of their friends developed. Well both have changed their names so they go into this blind. When they been attracted to the other & meet old wounds are opened so these 2 have to navigate what they are now what they were then. I just add that Jack really needs to work hard to make it happen. They are total opposites with her being disorganised etc & him being orderly, punctual & more.
Timini has some great friends & Jacks family are wonderful people.
This is a great heartfelt tale.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
How To Not Fall For Your Ex is an amazing wrap up to the series (but not going to lie, I hope one day in the future the cute older ladies get their chance as well haha). Timini is such a fun mess of excitement and creativity, while Jackson is so organized and more classy. Seeing them interact throughout the book was so fun! This was an amazing addition to the series and I love how it all tied everything up with all of the girls.
This book is a fun, lighthearted, romantic comedy quick read. You'll have a hard time putting it down (if I didn't have it borrowed from the library I may have even taken it in the shower with me haha). Author Meg Easton has a lovely writing style that just feels cozy, cute, and sweet. I feel you can read any of her books and just know you'll be in for a good time.
I highly recommend this book, the entire series, and really any of Meg Easton's books. You'll enjoy it, so grab a cup of tea, a cozy blanket, and take some nice reading time to yourself.
The only sad part about this book is it means this fantastic series is over! I have enjoyed the other three books and Timini's story was no exception. I love second chance stories and was pleasantly surprised with the plot twists revolving around the dating app as I wasn't sure how the author was going to make it happen. I am so glad we got to read the story from both perspectives!
I really loved how Jackson and Timini are so different yet they weren't annoyed or judgmental of the other but instead they balanced each other. Loved all the sweet romance and the fun appearances from the other roommates.
Can't say enough good things about this series! These are ones I will definitely be re-reading.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author but my opinions are my own.
The last in the series about four roommates who fall in love but remain best of friends while living in an old Inn. Each woman has a remarkable and lovely romantic story to share, but I think this last book is my favorite. A dating app with unique features is in Beta testing, and Timini is asked to participate. She is quirky, talented, slightly disorganized and just reading what she put on her profile for the app made me laugh! She selects some candidates, but focuses on one in particular, Jackson. The book proceeds between texts and daily life, all in real time. A too good to be true on paper meeting eventually turns into a real meet-up and a delightful story. Terrific characters, good pacing, and humor lead to a delightful HEA and a bonus chapter from the author. (I love those!) Read the series in order for ideal continuity, but if you don't, this story will be terrific on it's own.
