Despite their love for each other, lovemaking has become routine and predictable for the Duke and Duchess of Sutcliffe. Desperate to save their marriage, they begin exchanging passionate, erotic missives detailing needs and fantasies they never before dared to express. Soon, they're acting out those fantasies and discovering a consuming desire like none they've ever known...
Hi I write erotic historical romance for Harlequin Spice, as well as erotic paranormal romance under the name Sophie Renwick. In 2011, I'll be debuting my mainstream, Victorian set historicals through HQN.
I love talking about books, and have found some new friends, and really good book recommends here on Goodreads. I really love this community.
Christian and Elizabeth have marital problems. Christian's wife had been gone from him in one way or another for the past three years. He thinks that their marriage is over but he wants his wife back. There's a lot of resentment, distance, and emptiness between these two. Elizabeth is unhappy and it hurt to admit the truth. It's as if they're distant acquaintances passing one another from time to time. They don't talk, touch, kiss anymore. Somehow they've become strangers to one another. It is so essential that you tend your marriage! A friend said to Elizabeth:
"But a marriage is like a garden. It needs to be tended year after year. To be cultivated and fed. And when the weeds begin to sprout, as they always do, they need to be plucked - immediately."
Ms. Featherstone does a very fine job in portraying the married couple. It's difficult to maintain a healthy, happy, and passionate relationship when you have to raise four children, and you have to deal with a lot of other stuff in your lives. Christian is rather frustrated and acts stupid when their erotic encounter is brusquely interrupted during a thunderstorm when the children are storming into their bedroom. You annoyed me, Christian, although I have to admit that you redeemed yourself later! Don't take anything for granted. It's so essential to voice our desires and needs and a woman should accept the fact that she can be both mother and wife as well as a sexual creature with the same needs as her husband.
As the story unfolds Christian and Elizabeth discover what brought them together in the first place - love, and an incredible passion for each other! Christian definitely found the magic, and they seduced each other. Again. Ultimately he got his woman back. I loved their erotic game; the little naughty letters were wonderful! I'm a sucker for touching, kissing, and lots of intimacy, and Forever Yours provided that and then some! Wow, this short read got me all hot and bothered! I admire the author's voice. She writes so beautifully! Ms. Featherstone's books are filled with sensuality, and she packs so much emotions and feelings into her stories.
Overall, Forever Yours is an extremely well written, highly sensual, erotic, and passionate novella! If you're looking for a very good erotic short story then don't look further. You have found it. Highly recommended!
Wow!!! Now that is what I call an incredible short story with a hint of erotica.
The story is based on a couple who've lost the spark in their marriage. After 10 years of marriage and four children. They treat each other as if they're aquantices who are around to take care of their children and everyday duties, nothing more.So they just stopped showing interest in one another. The sentiments that Christian and Elizabeth (H/H) had before they got married and had kids, is just not the same anymore.Like the long conversations, the touching and Kissing. Now it just feels like they've become strangers towards one another..........In my opinion I think this happens a lot in peoples marriages, they tend to forget and put everything else first, our first priorities will always be our children, then everything else takes place from there. But there is one thing we should never forget, keeping our marriages or relationships together & sticking it through the good and the bad. So rekindling & bringing that spark back in the marriage and having open communication is a must..... That is why I loved this novel! I think many of you will love it too and maybe even relate too the story. Like what happens when you finally want to get intimate with your spouse, but then you have your kids who cry because they want to sleep in your bed or, you miss getting naughty anywhere & everywhere you go, or being able to get up & say "Let's do this" & many other things. These are just a few of my examples....Here's a perfect Quote that was said in this novel that I loved:
“ A marriage is like a garden. It needs to be tended year after year. To be cultivated and fed. And when the weeds begin to sprout, as they always do, they need to be plucked—immediately. Sometimes love just isn’t enough to keep two people together."
Once Elizabeth and Christian finally hop on track and realize they're not happy but are willing to try different things & bring excitement back into their marriage, is where the hint of Erotica comes in. It was perfect! I couldn't have asked for more to the story.
I recommend this novel to just about anyone. If you like reading stories about families, love and devotion and also like your erotica romance novels as well. This novel is just for you!
Elizabeth – Is not only a lady of the ton, but a Duchess to boot. Married to a man she loves, friends with a most dashing artist – who is her true friend. Mother of four children, that are apparently part and parcel of the problems that she is having with the Duke.
Christian – Husband to Elizabeth and also the man who is not getting what he wants out of his marriage – his wife. He knows he loves her, he loves his kids and he knows no other man will have her – but how can he prove this to her.
The Plot
Elizabeth and Christian are in a rut, as much as their feelings for each other have not changed over the years, the passion has somehow died from their relationship.
Both people seems to just be going through the motions and all other areas of their life takes precedence over the time they take for themselves.
Christian has just about had enough and he wont compete any more for what is his conjugal right, Elizabeth – wants but isn’t sure how to go about getting her man – the man she loves - back.
Surprise Element
I have not had much experience with either the author or the Spice label so i was more or less winging it. Everything about this book was a surprise – The realness of the characters, the everyday emotions that is felt by he, she and the support cast, as well as the fact that the protagonists displayed all the things i love in a Hero/Heroine – Christian was all alpha male and Elizabeth was very feminine but knew when her man calls, she goes running.
Predictability.
Not going there with this book – it did what it was meant to do - i bought it – I loved it and not touching that topic.
Smut/Ick Factor The smut was definately what was missing from their life. Once they came to an understanding of what they wanted, their wish and their fantasy – it was quite exciting to read how slutty this “Lady” wanted to be and how this man wanted to “take” her.
There was a level of circumspect – that i realized that i have been missing and i realize that i still had the capacity to blush. Loved it.
Positive I have not read a historical novel/novella in a few years, i was finding they were more or less the same, so this was my first outing with a historical in a long time – Ms. Featherstone you have rekindled my love for a genre that i had more or less given up on.
We are introduced to Elizabeth and Christian after ten years of marriage and four children, and with all the drama and trauma that makes up a relationship. While that sounds so ordinary, i was really impressed with the authors way of bringing to the table the things that are never said in a relationship, the hopes, the dreams, the fantasy and even the hateful things that as soon as they are said, you immediately wish them back.
Anyone who has been in a relationship any length of time will relate to this book. The story flowed well and the support cast were just that – support.
Elizabeth and Christian are friends and lover – but what stood out for me was the fact that one knew when to say sorry and the other knew when the olive branch was being extended. Ladies be warned Christian is a dream – simple a dream.
Another positive for me was that i was re-introduced to a lot of words that i had forgotten in my time reading erotic romance – so “quim” was one that really made me smile and of course “sennight”. For people who read contemporary or even just plain erotic material you know there is no grey area in those books – so it was a pleasure seeing those words and a few other little phrases again.
Negative
From the outset i knew this was a short story – so if i was honest i can’t say the story was too short, the book did just what it was meant to do – entertain and it did. However, i really like the main protagonists and i would have liked to stay with them a little longer.
Cover
After reading for a long time, i think we all have come to expect a certain image for a certain era or genre – the fact that the cover was more erotic than historical does not take away from how wonderful this story is.
The anthology cover was also something else that stepped outside of the mold.
What did I think??? I think that this book was fan-friggin-tabulous.
Take out the character name Elizabeth - insert Jodie, and change the Christian to Wayne and the first 40% or so of this book would be my life. Ok, take out the mansion, the 4 kids (I only have 2), the butlet, the nannies, the servants, horse and carriage etc etc....and it would be a great reflection of my life.
I was actually in tears at one stage because this book hit so close to home. I probably wouldn't recommend this book to people without kids - because frankly most of them have no concept of what it is like. But to anyone that has small children and that is also trying to have a sex life - THIS IS A MUST READ.
I loved how they reconcilled and hope that in the future when I get my Mansion, butler, nannies, servants etc (but no more kids)...I will have my happily ever after.
Thanks to my lovelly buddies who recommended this to me...You know who u are you sexy wenches.
A wonderful short story, about how the the simple things in life like passion, love, and lust can become lost in the mire of daily life.....and how something as simple as listening to your heart, your desires and having the courage to act upon/request them, can restore the passion!
Christian is a wonderful passionate alpha man, Elizabeth a gentle charming elegant woman......after realizing their marriage has become stale they independantly set about claiming the other back, and in doing so re-kindle a strong bond and intense erotic love.
A very beautifully written story for anyone who loves an original erotic historical romance.
I'm was searching for a short story that would balance the classic book I was reading and this what I get and...I Love It:) the story was sugar spice and everything nice! That deep pang a reader receive on the first chapter just intensifies what will happen between the couple..make or break? and it was one way to continue reading it...they were slowy working it out first by exchanging letters like: Tell me these fantasies you've had of me
What if you received a letter like that?there would be butterflies on your stomach. never thought something on letters could be so sensual mmhmmm. and doing what was written and the passion just explodes in full anticipation.Amazing:)
Oh Christian melts me! I love this kind of men. Possessive but not insane. Men who control themselves and don't act like a King Kong, even though they are burning inside, ahhhh! I wish the story was longer... I LOVE IT
I’m not a fan of short stories…but this one is good! Christian (a Duke) and his wife Elizabeth have been married 10 years and have 4 children….They love each other (dream of being together without the kids interrupting, etc), but their relationship has fallen into a routine and suffers from responsibilities, fatigue, etc. Wanting the intimacy back in their marriage, they take steps to reignite the spark they once shared. Favorite quote: A marriage is like a garden. It needs to be tended year after year. To be cultivated and fed. And when the weeds begin to sprout, as they always do, they need to be plucked-immediately”…..Ahhhh, so true. Forever Yours
Eh. Could have been a fun little sexy read but I hated Christian. He was a selfish husband and lover from the beginning. He claims to recognize that he hasn’t shown his wife how much he desires her and then proceeded to seduce her by focusing entirely on himself and his own fantasies. She seems to like it but she’s just as neglected at the end as she is at the beginning. He hardly touches her throughout this short story. It’s all about him.
Also, a broken marriage is fixed with a day of sex. Perhaps leave the deeper problems to a book where it can be developed appropriately. Would have been better if they were just trying to spice things up.
Es que los libros cortos no dan más de sí. No está mal del todo, pero en un libro romántico tan corto, lo que sienten los protagonistas tiene que decirse, cuando yo prefiero los hechos que te dan a entender la misma realidad de una forma más sutil.
It's been a while since I read a novella that impressed me so much ! It's a historical spicy romance, but it could have as well been a contemporary one : a couple that's been married for years, who have children (including small children), who no longer have the connection and intimacy they once shared, drifting away from each other. Until they break up ?... How are they to regain the love they shared, do they even want to ? Honestly, which parent doesn't remember the sleepless nights, the nightmares, the growing teeth, the sicknessses, the children who don't want to nap or even to sleep, the moments of peace you were juuuuust about to have at last and that slip out of your reach as soon as one of your children cry or ask something out of you ? I know I do. How is it possible to sustain a love when you can't have two minutes of peace with the one who shares your life ? Well, those two find a solution, a very hot one, admitting the mistakes they both made and willing to make up for them. It's a short story, but the characters were so very well written, so easily defined, you feel for them, for their torment and finally, you not only root for their success but feel the heat ! I read this on a very hot day and the temperature just got hotter, but strangely enough, I didn't mind, I was just caught up in the story ! Seriously, the book is cheap so drop everything you're doing, go get it, read it and stay near the fridge ! I need book two in this series yesterday. PS : I just bought it 5mn ago !
This was an interesting little read. While it was a HR it has the same theme that many couples face today. Children enter our lives and we seem to find less and less time for each other and having intimate moments few and far between.
I thought Featherstone was spot on when it came to the description of a struggling marriage.
However, One big problem I had was the consistency of the presence of the children.
One moment the children are a major problem the hero complains that they are continually interrupting "private bedroom" time and then suddenly they are writing erotic letters and mending the marriage and the children all but disappear?
Also I believe a Duke and Duchess would have access to many servants, nanny's etc. to help out.
While I can appreciate the theme of this book I think it would have worked better as a contemporary.
A strong idea, but poorly executed. The hero never recovers from being a selfish jerk in his initial appearance, and the heroine's expressions of her frustration come across as grating whining rather than distress it is possible to empathize with. Her male best friend is thrown in to give her wisdom and inspire jealousy in her husband, but there's nothing interesting or even believably human about his interactions with the leads. By the time the sex starts to get good (or at least better), I'd mostly checked out of the story because of the clumsy writing. Not a satisfying read, but also not completely terrible. It's readable despite the weaknesses in character and prose, and there are clearly elements of a great story in kernel form. Two stars. 3 Aug/12
Wow a a very cute but oh so hot book! And enlightening.
Story of married couple who goes through a normal/boredom "phase" in thier relationship. But with as true love should, they quicky finds a solution to thoer issue.
But thier solution is definitely fun, hot and ecxiting.
I highly recommend this book. Thank you Elena foe the rec. And you're right, I can relate!
Read this as part of the on-going project to help a friend compile a booklist for her group, Adult Children of PTSD Parents and it has nothing to do with PTSD.
This book is based on the premise that a great sex life means a great relationship. I find that revolting. The sex life will only be as good as the relationship. It's too bad this story did not explore how the couple came to drift apart and go into more detail about it. How they undertook to rediscover each other in ways other than sex. But if you like a book to be non-stop sex, this is for you. Frankly, I was bored.
Sensual and emotional short story about a married couple facing some marital problems - a stagnant period in their relationship - and trying to overcome them.
Sort of epistolary romance about sharing fantasies, and living them out. Sweetly erotic.
My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book...
Another short story/novella by Charlotte Featherstone. Loved it and wish again that it was longer. The story is, as you can read from the blurb, about a couple finding each-other anew after a long marriage, kids and thousand other responsibilities.
Honestly, I've never really read a premise such as this. Well, maybe a few but they didn't explore the problem they way CF did in this story. We usually read that the characters, h/h, married and blissfully happy but we never actually think what might happened to them after a period of time, say 10 years? This short story shed some light on that aspect. Both Christian and Elizabeth had been in love when they married and very happy during the 1st few years. But, after the birth of their third child, things begin to go downhill. Elizabeth, being a mother of four, found herself in a fix between the kids, her duties as a Duchess and wife to Christian. And Christian began to think Elizabeth doesn't care for him enough to even make love to him. Sex has become just sex and nothing else, and only when they have some time for it. Even then, something would occur to interrupt that. I started enjoying it from the first page as the story picked up it's pace from there.
After a few weeks, they both realize that they underestimated themselves as well as their love for each-other. Their marriage, as a whole, deserves much more than this. Christian, at first, gave me the impression that he's annoyed by his own kids but well, not really. He's a good husband, a loving father and a responsible duke. But, what about the man inside, who crave his own identity? Same goes for Elizabeth, who's craving her own identity as a woman too. I very much enjoyed reading about their marriage before this and the way they used to be with each-other, as their thoughts reveal to us. They had some misunderstanding regarding Elizabeth's childhood friend, an artist, Adrian. Also, with Elizabeth thinking Christian might've found someone younger than her.
But, all these are soon resolved as their time apart gave them the incentive they needed, which is to think their relationship through. Christian takes the first step, in the form of a letter, which Elizabeth gladly accepts. And from there, the new beginning starts. Love scenes were great as usual, with steamy scenes and hot letters exchanges between the two. Lurved reading those! :p
Very enjoyable! A 4 star.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Short but good! Only 6 chapters. Lots of emotional development and a HEA.
A married couple has become bored and their sex life has stagnated. This is the dilemma that the duke and duchess of Sutcliffe have and the book opens with them in the middle of a drawn out slowly progressing love scene before the frightening sounds of a thunderstorm cause their children to cry, and Christian, the Duke, is frustrated and annoyed by the interruption of their children (they have four) and he instantly loses his erection. Then he storms out of the house and isn't seen by his wife for a sennight.
I don't know why Adrian was introduced in the book. Adrian seems to be deserving of an entire book by himself.
Summary: Despite their love for each other, lovemaking has become routine and predictable for the Duke and Duchess of Sutcliffe. Desperate to save their marriage, they begin exchanging passionate, erotic missives detailing needs and fantasies they never before dared to express. Soon, they're acting out those fantasies and discovering a consuming desire like none they've ever known...
Hot! Hot! Hot! Loved this short read, as I could relate, just a little bit, lol. Little does my husband know, I shall be gifting him with a stationary set for his desk along with a few suggestions for its use ;)
I miss Charlotte Featherstone's stories...this one is a reread for me. CF can put so much heartfelt yearning and longing between her heroes/heroines in her stories, essential IMHO to a romance read. Not every author can make the dialog flow like honey...with pacing that keeps that perfrct tension! And oh how these two found their way back to each other. This novella is non stop passion rekindled *sigh*
This was a delight to read on a Saturday evening! Its set up as a married couple re-kindling the romance in their love making by sharing and playing out their fantasies. I always loved this authors' writing and she does it again even with a short read.
This short story should have been a long story with a backstory of how the couple met. But, *sigh* I guess this is really a short-lived story. Nonetheless, I might tell you that the story lived to its promise of romance.
