When I was a child, I could do Magic. I felt powerful, confident, immortal, with an underlying sense of goodness, positivity and an innate power to affect everything around me. At some point, and for the next 30 years, I forgot all about Magic. I forgot how to do it.
And my life became dull, poor and ordinary.
Now, having rekindled the fire of Magic once again, I have successfully used it to turn my entire life around in an almost miraculous fashion. In my books, I show you how to do the same.
I'm British, down to earth, straightforward and not at all your usual paragon of spiritual loveliness. I drink too much coffee, eat too much of everything and laugh at rude jokes.
I also love animals as much as people, even the rats...
This has no bearing on reality. A person, cannot live ones life by simply ignoring the unpleasant. Life just does not work that way yet this is really what the author is proposing we do in order for all of our problems to go away. Really? A better name for the book would be 'The Power of Positive Thinking', yet I believe that title has already been used. I will admit I understand and agree with the concept behind the book and do live my life to that extent, but I'm sorry the world is not all puppy dogs and rainbows, it just isn't. To think that simply being positive all the time will -using the authors ideology- make our lives magically better and give us everything we desire and need is ridiculous. Thinking positive does wonders yet you as an individual still need to do the work to become successful.
I enjoyed the book and the message. However, the writer's constant self-advertisement seems to be unnecessary to me. When a reader likes the writer, they will do everything to connect with the writer through her books, seminars, or classes. Just leave it to the discretion of the readers more maybe instead of repeating that you have a "free course" and a website.
Could this work ? Maybe so. As the author herself states, it just seems too simple. I will give it a go, ain’t got nothing to lose. I would agree with the final chapter, in coming to an acceptance of life as it is, will lead to a more peaceful mind. Maybe not a happy mind, but more at ease, a more philosophical attitude towards life. Whether this will lead to a more pleasant experience of life remains to be seen. I am open minded, will do the short free video course she offers. I will try the suggestions from the book and see what happens. Having read many books of this nature, Law of Attraction, books on Magick and so on, where the authors state there way is the road to success. Generally I have been disappointed, having failed to make my life the wonderful paradise on Earth they promise. While these techniques may work initially, then they stop working for whatever reason.
One stand out criticism of this book is the sudden and unexpected detail of how many people have died from COVID 19 in England. Not something I was expecting, nor wish to read in this book, or anywhere. Details such as this I am trying to avoid, so I have stopped reading or listening to the news for months, as it’s too much to take. Seems to totally be at odds with the whole ethos of the book. To not speak into existence that which one wishes to avoid. So why mention the pandemic statistics at all ?
Overall an comfortable, engaging, and easy to read book.
After reading all the great reviews I was super excited to read the book but was disappointed to learn that there isn't anything new here. Although she spoke about her goal being only to help others and not make money from the beginning she kept sharing a link and encouraging people to take her online courses. I ended up speed reading after awhile because I hoped at one point to find something new and meaningful. For people who have not had an opportunity to read stuff in this area which basically is positive thoughts, the law of attraction, the power of words, positive affirmations and so forth this book, for them, can be an eye opening experience and lead them on a journey to self discovery and positive change. For the people who have read books on these topics this book is going to be a big disappointment.
I bought this book because, frankly, I didn’t believe a word of it and wanted to see for myself what all the hoopla was about. By page two, I was frantically taking notes, and turned off the TV in the background to give the book my full attention. Although it’s not a long book, I read it in a day, and am fully re energized by her concepts and theories - simply because they make sense! I’m a believer! A five-star believer! Who knew? Now, I’m going to go back and re-read the first half of the book, to be sure my subconscious “still skeptical” brain didn’t miss anything. This is exciting stuff. Just what I’ve been looking for! Right book and the right time! Thanks, Universe!
Really makes a direct connected the power of the mind , quickly too, which is part of the magic of her words. The book is written to quickly help you engage in testing our her experiences and talent with focusing the mind, perceptions and how life can change for the better if we let go of the negative and focus our awareness on our high purpose, vision. Tunes you i to what is possible and the book talks to you like a personal friend. I plan to try the five-day challenge to build some good habits with the practice.
This book gives some good examples and methods on how to speak and think positively to manifest a more desirable state in one's life. I think that the author was basically describing a significant segment of what is known as The Law of Attraction. This reader recommends not starting on that subject with this book but to go to other authors like Rhonda Byrne and/or Esther Hicks for those subjects before reading this book. Magic Words and How to Use Them gives some good examples of how to practice the law of attraction principles and makes a good addition to books like The Secret.
There were a couple of downsides to this book. First, it was short and this reader believes it has room to grow into a better document to help people. The author repeatedly directs the reader to her online classes. The second downside is the use of the word "magic." Using that word allows for misinterpretation of the phenomena the author is trying to describe. At some basic level, it is an understandable use of that word; however, it also subjects this concept to negative connotations associated with the word "magic" as being associated with myth and fantasy. This doesn't allow it to be accepted for the strength that it really deserves.
I will recommend this book to others, but I would caution them that the word "magic" is misleading and not to get too anchored on expecting something like fantasy magic in books and television.
Change your perception and you'll change the world
I'm sure there are a lot of people[or who could benefit from this book, the author is authentic and what she's saying is definitely true. Its not always easy to accept responsibility but from my experience it has always been empowering. This is great advice for people who tend to be pessimistic or negative most of the time, but it can be hard to give them the slap into reality they need to change. For me, it reinforced a concept I am already very aware of amd use much of the time and also reminded me of smaller things that are counterproductive.... Its like a friend reminding you of something that you already knew (that's the best way 8 can think to describe it). Life is all about how you perceive things nd if you can change your perception then you can change the way you experience life... anyway, I think the way the author presents the concept is creative, I've never heard it described this way and that should appeal to some people who can not relate to it enthusiastically as a natural phenomenon. Good job!
This book has confirmed something is begun to suspect but couldn't put into words. Thought provoking and the methods are something I've already started to do. Give this book a go!
Disclaimer: Thank you, Anna's Archive, for making this book free of charge. I have no shame in getting it for free because the author is richer than me. She admitted in her "Becoming Rich" book that she drives an Aston Martin and lives on the seashore, so the profits from the sale of one copy of her book is but a mere pittance. Anyway, on to the review!
Truthfully, all this book is is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for you and me explained in very simple terms that anybody with half a brain can understand. That's seriously all it is. Whether this stuff works or not remains to be seen from my point of view. It really seems like you need to frame everything positively, even when it's not true.
So in essence, our ravishing author, Jovial Genevieve, seems to be saying that it's perfectly fine to tell blatant lies if it will get you out of a predicament. Turning a true negative event or story into a fake positive one is lying, right? I think so. So in other words, the author is saying that it's ok to lie, and lying can be justified. Interesting. I think I'll do more lying (to others and even to myself) in order to get far ahead in life. That's the best lesson I got out of this book. The author is basically explaining how lying can be justified and why. Answer: use "magic" to do so because it will help you succeed. Probably better off calling this book "The Magic of Lying." Maybe positive lies will bring more successful opportunities...Food for thought.
P.S. Her 5-day magic mini-course isn't bad, but I didn't like how the fifth and final video was entirely dedicated to promoting her Academy of Magic. She should have made it more substantively related to Magic.
Magic Words and How to Use Them is a short, insightful, and inspiring book, which encourages the reader to start to change the story they tell of their life experiences into a more positive one.
'complaining about the way things are is no more useful than running into a wall over and over saying 'this wall isn't supposed to be here''
At its core, the premise hooks onto the power of positive thinking, but Genevieve gives a wonderful light, joyful and playful twist, challenging the reader to be inventive, and have fun with the process of creating their own magic.
I have read lots of self-help books and this one stands apart as the only one which made me feel I could enjoy a process of change, rather than being stressed out and exhausted by it.
I've given 4, rather than 5 stars as while I understand that our magic words need to come from us in order to feel authentic, I would have liked to have read more examples of reframing common negative thought patterns, giving a starting point for those who are a little skeptical or so deeply hooked into their negative thought patterns that they need a little help to get started.
In my opinion, this book is a destined to becoming a metaphysical classic. I used to have more patience for metaphysical classic and self-help books ...I even read the whole Carlos Castenada series because the Author of "the Inner Guide Meditation" book , Ed Streinbrecker....I did not get as much out of the Carlos Castenada series than I got from this one book. . it's no long...easy fun read... PACKED with priceless suggestions on how to be magic. My magical powers needed a boost. Magic has provided the proverbial shot in the arm I needed. This is also well written and kept me riveted from the first page. I was kinda sad when it was over.....than I found there are courses one can take, other means of continuing learning to be magic Genevieve Davis's courses and /or work books. You can do Magic...you can have anything your heart desires.... Magic....wasn't that a pop tune in the 80s...ok song and the chorus is true. It can take practice how much depends on everyone being different and how much one practices. Cool book.
I’ve spent decades studying the laws of thought but never really “got” this amazing concept Genevieve shares here. Yes, there was something deep in my soul that kept nudging me to do this, but I didn’t quite understand what it would look like. I thought it might be too Polyannish. But now I get it … not only what this way of speaking looks like in practicality because of the author’s examples, but I also understand WHY it works. The last chapter was the bridge that plugged what Genevieve teaches into everything I’ve learned about the laws of thought and what my mentor Leslie Householder refers to as “Rare Faith.” This book and what it teaches was just the bridge I needed. Thank you!
If you were looking for a grimoire of words, keep looking, however…
This books is more of a New Age way of describing chaos magic without using those terms. It is about bending reality by changing our outdated mental constructs and unhelpful narratives that keep us stuck. It does a very good job of explaining this in layman’s terms.
Genevieve’s writing is very casual and conversational, making this book accessible, easy-to-read and comprehend.
Why then, did I give this a 3-star review? Simple. She stretches a simple concept — that could be stated in one blog post — out over 100 pages of fluff. After you’ve read the technique, you can quit reading. The remaining 60% of the book is a rehash with a few testimonials and more autobiography.
Reaction: quick, simple read drawing upon common knowledge made practical Writing Style: conversational, self-help like but also witty Argumentation: there’s the thinking mind that tells us what we should do, and the magic mind, what we would like to do. So why can’t we? Think deeply about what you want, be positive in all this negativity surrounding your life and the rest of the world Commendation: only a brief primer, and a great one at that Critique: where’s the book series, since there is so much evidence that could help ground this in practical examples, studies, and what didn’t work but could be improved upon in using magic words
This book is heaven sent. I've read many books about magic, manifestation and spell work. This book is unlike any of those in the matter that the author breaks down what's actually happening in reality with your brain and thoughts and equates that to the magic work. Everyone is magic and everyone makes their thoughts come true. This book guides you through how to utilize, use, and reconstruct words that you've been telling to yourself for your whole life in ways that will not only benefit you but enrich your life and help you accomplish your dreams. I loved it.
So excited to have read this book, in one sitting! And you know how they say everything comes to you at the right time, well, having naturally been a very positive person who avoid the news anyway, it now makes perfect sense! I'm now looking to build my perfect future, so much of this resonated with me, so this is absolutely perfect timing! Oh how I am going to LOVE putting this into practice! (Using the word perfect in one paragraph - I think I'm already on track!! ;) Haha!) Thank you Genevieve for the succinct but perfect explanation :D
This book wasn’t what I thought it would be! It was NOT about spells, witches etc but is a book about self empowerment & taking simple steps to improve your life. However I did read it & have definitely taken away some ideas, worth a read. It’s a short book (but long enough that it didn’t get repetitive), and written in extremely plain language. That said, I gave it 4/5 & would recommend this book to anyone who feels they would like some easy steps to help them improve their life & think more positively.
As you read this book, you will notice that the author wrote this directly from the heart. The perspectives are authentic and written from author's personal experience.
Concepts are no different than other books because the laws of the universe are exactly what they are... laws. Each person's interpretation and experiences with using the laws will resonate differently for each person.
For those who are seeking new perspective from the point of view of a student with the subject and encourage you to read it.
This book, easy to read and quick to follow, really brings the subconscious stories that we tell day in and day out to the surface, and let us see how much power they have not only on us and on the quality of our life right now but also how influential they can be in determining our life next moment into the future. It serves a Reminder that we are the story teller and choose to tell a positive one that leads to a life we desires to live and deserve to live.
The core message of this book/technique is that we are ultimately responsible for how both percieve external events and how we react to them. This is one of the main tenants of Stoicism
The "magic words" of the title are effectively the stories we tell ourselves in our internal monologue. In a very crude simplification, thinking positively puts you in a positive space, drawing short of affirmation/manifestation though - simply thinking yourself in to a good place doesn't immediately put you there, more paves the way for you to get there.
Genevieve Davis has done it again! I have loved every book that she has written, but this short Concise Book about how reforming the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves can change our lives is my new favorite.I am going to dive into The free course that accompanies this book. Her course on magic was wonderful, and I have no doubt that The course on Magic Words will be equally beneficial.
Another fabulous book from Genevive. Thank you!!❤ cant wait for the next one!!! If you want to change your life this is the book for you. But you must take the advice and go with it. A quote I once heard "Do you want to be right or do you want to change?" remember that when reading if you oppose any ideas as you'll only be hindering yourself :)
This is good, but it is just one technique. And this is more or less discussed in her Course in Manifesting series. So if you have read that this really isn't necessary.
And to be honest it did feel a bit to be an advertisement for her online courses that she now offers in magic on her site. Which honestly is fine, I just wish there was a bit more meat to this one.
It still is valuable and I would still recommend it as a short read but I do prefer her original books on Magic much more.
Everything in this book resonated with me and in reflecting over the material I can see the validity of what this author speaks about, in true reality everything she talks about just makes sense. I do believe she has conformed to the realities of life and by applying these universal principles that were established here before our creation you can truly change your life. I highly recommend this book.
I have listened to law of attraction lectures, practiced affirmations and completed the exercises in the secret. Somewhere, there was always the thinking brain whispering, how dies it work? Does talking positive about something manifest it and how?! I like the examples and the book is easy to read with simple steps. I'm so glad I read this book. This year is going to be awesome for me and for you. 💙
Genevieve has shared the simple secret of words. She has enabled the ordinary working class person to reach for their stars. Yes, I am truly excited by life in Genevieve's world. Thinking my 6 young adults who are all at different stages in beginning life as adults would benefit from her discovery. Look forward to her future books. P. S. I am buying copies to send to my kid and to keep for guests 😊
The saying Thoughts are things has been around for several decades, it’s true what you think becomes your reality so do think positively about the negatives. Not much of a guide on how to do what is recommended but for those that are young and facing difficulties it’s ok as it doesn’t promise you anything except you are the change and positivity is everything.
Really simple yet complex way to engage with and improve your life. An honest book with no gimmicks or over the top fantastic claims. Would suit Christians and other religious people as it is a universal technique that does not cross any religious taboos. Would highly recommend it.
Quick read, and kind of a unique view of the law of attraction (which the author differentiates from). It really helps to see things from another perspective, and in this case how we view reality affects both our perception and how we unconsciously shape our future, and therefore in both cases how it affects our happiness, contentment, success etc.
