Heroes aren’t made by accident. They’re forged by survival.
Aiyana never planned on becoming a target—or a hero. Her job as a chemical analyst at Ihode Labs was supposed to be safe and predictable. Then the lab is attacked. Classified chemicals vanish. Aiyana barely escapes with her life. Despite the warning from the Head of the Company to stay out of the investigation, curiosity sparks rebellion, and something inside Aiyana ignites.
Across the stars, Opsidia has already lost everything. Driven from her homeworld, and forced to hide on puny, insignificant Earth, Opsidia seeks only one thing: a cure for the curse of her volcanic-based powers. And if the stolen chemicals from Ihode Labs can give it to her, she’ll burn through anyone who stands in her way.
Now Aiyana is Fire Wave, a superhero grappling with the weight of newfound responsibilities, but determined find the truth behind the lab attack. She never expected to uncover a growing evil buried somewhere in Earth. When Fire Wave collides with Opsidia, hero and villain blur as determination clashes with looming malevolence and two women, each fighting for answers, are forever changed.
Perfect for fans who love high-stakes YA sci-fi fantasy, Fire Wave traces a journey of self-discovery as it pulls readers into a collision of stolen science, buried truths, and the weight of newfound responsibility. Trust must be earned, survival comes at a cost, and heroes are forged not by destiny, but by the choices they refuse to walk away from.
Superheroines? Aliens? A relatable main character? Fast-paced writing? One sitting thrilling read?
A new adult sci-fi plot done really well?
Well, look no more for this book provides everything you just asked for!
I am genuinely surprised when I started reading the book. I went into it blindly but my expectations were really high.
Did this book meet those expectations?
You bet!
First, the writing is a big YES for me!
For someone who binge read young adult series and fantasy books, I was (I repeat) genuinely surprised at how much I was enjoying this book!
I just cannot believe it's a debut. I have tried to read some really hyped popular books of the same genre but sadly, I couldn't enjoy most of them. But this one is a good one.
The story: some classified chemicals got stolen from some high profile secretive Ihode Labs and Aiyana feels responsible to do something about it but then her presence on Earth doesn't seem that easy to survive but Aiyana isn't your average someone. Evil is there and let's see what Aiyana does about it.
The characters are quirky, mysterious, fun and adventurous. The main character is the kind who just jumps right in front of you and let you absorb their story right then and there. Their presence is strong and their development is wholesome.
Well, the main character is quite relatable at times:
"I looked like a nerd. Like something from a comic book."
And I was like "hey, are we talking about us?"
She's such an interesting character which kept the story going. I just couldn't help expecting more and more from this character. And I am really glad she didn't disappoint me!
Regarding the plot, it is something different from what I have read so far from similar genres. It has strength and it's easily accessible. There's lots of mystery and thrill throughout the entire read I say! This is the part which I enjoyed the most.
There are moments which are actually quite creepy. You will know what I am talking about. That shadow thing is still haunting me...
Things get explained and wrapped up really well towards the end. I just wish Aiyana didn't get hurt that much. My heart was breaking...
The author built the story and the characters so well that there was never a dull moment until the end. Well, I need the sequel now! The cliffhanger is killing me, author!
I appreciate how the cover and the title reflect the actual main character.
I would say this book is apt even for beginners.
Why read a book you are not enjoying? Pick up this book today!
My thanks to the author for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was... fun. I liked it in that regard, where it was easy to read, and relatively fast paced. It does mean if one is short of time and needs something to read where you don’t need to think much or put much effort into it, this novel(novella?) would perfectly be suitable for you. That being said, in a sense, this did very much so felt like a debut novel and it felt like a self-published novel.
A significant portion to me felt juvenile to me, especially as it is classified as YA. What I mean by this is that as I was reading it, it did feel that the author was relatively inexperienced to writing stories on this scope and scale. I felt that for the story told, one, there needed to be a lot more depth and actual explanations into things like plot, character motivations, why a certain character made certain decisions. In that regard, it was lacking so many things were rapidly glossed over with little no explanation that left me questioning why certain things happened. I think that this could have been fixed if this novel was actually longer, as it would mean the plot wouldn’t feel as rushed and that there would be more time to explore the world, its characters and its themes.
In a sense, this is very much so a superhero sort of novel, and I certainly enjoy that stuff. What baffled me in this case was the decision-making process that the main character had going for her as it made little sense to me? I would have liked to have known more as to what led Aiyana to make the decisions and the direction that she took herself that she did, especially at the start of the novel. In some regard, I think the author attempts to justify it at the end, although it was glossed over extremely quickly and doesn’t help explain the reasoning earlier on in the novel.
The plot largely was fine. It was enjoyable, had a raft of twists and was entertaining with a large array of action sequences. That being said, I really would have liked more down time between the action sequences, because the second half of this book really was just jumping from action scene to action scene, which made it fast paced and exciting. However, it did mean that there was little substance or content in the novel that made it truly enjoyable for me personally. I am aware that many people do love a lot of fight scenes, in which this book will probably suit you a lot more.
The writing style was ok in this novel, I would almost say it is on the more simplistic side of things, which isn’t a critique but merely something I observed. It told the story that was needed to be told, although again one thing, it needed more depth to it. Things could have been described better, or explained better and in some cases, more showing could have been done, which I believe would have made some lines less clunky or awkward. Look, writing style is really largely down to personal preference and that was just mine.
Ultimately, this was a fun novel that I enjoyed, although I would have liked a bit more out of it. 5.5/10
Fast paced and action packed with a crime fighting protagonist … and even aliens!!
Though I really enjoy watching superhero movies I’ve never really been all that into super hero comics or superhero related books but Fire Wave was really interesting read.
After the lab she works for is destroyed by a super humanly strong mystery woman and having notice some super classified chemicals are missing, Ayana decides to look into the strange occurrences that have bee cropping up all over Iron City. Her interest is further picqued when the CEO of the company she works for, Ihode Labs warns her against asking any further questions.
Not one to give up easily Aiyana follows her gut and soon learns that an evil extra terrestrial plot is afoot … and it doesn’t bode well for Earth. Determined to stop the threat Aiyana will have whatever it takes, but what if the task is an impossible one? For Aiyana may have bitten off more that she can chew.
Firstly, this is an incredibly quick and super fast paced which I did enjoy did get a-little confusing at times (due to the speed of the plot, which happens crazy fast.)
I did really like the homage to classic superhero comics and iconic superhero movies such as Aiyana making her own costume which I found joyfully reminiscent of Michelle Pfieffer as Selena Kyle in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns.
I really liked Aiyana (our secret vigilante and protagonist) who’s constantly seeking for the truth and she had quite a few humourous, self aware moments that I really enjoyed - one of my favourites was her picking out an inconspicuous disguise (involving a twirling baton, and old Halloween mask and an old cape) and then taking public transport (which involved alot of attention!
We also briefly meet one of her friends, Abby and a few of her colleagues but, due to Aiyana’s singleminded focus on the mystery woman and the conundrum that is The Obsidian Force, we don’t delve all that much into Aiyana’s private life / backstory. Hopefully, the sequels will remedy this.
Overall, this is a quick, entertaining and action packed superhero, sci-fi fantasy debut that’s perfect for superhero enthusiasts.
Also a huge thank you to the author for providing a digital copy.
I received this book for an honest review. Thank you to the author for sending it to me!

I feel so extremely bad for giving this book a low rating. Firstly I want to say I think Ana Stanojevic is very brave for publishing as an Indie and should be proud of making her own dream come true this way. She defenitely has the talent of writing, because she would not have been able to create such a book otherwise. This book just desperately needed an editor. All the basic plot holes and mistakes were made en the story fell flat due to it. We have a badass crazy woman, that's supposed to be a normal human with an office job, that's suddenly able to fight every single opponent she runs in to and has no problem with fighting the police aswell. Everytime she needs some information she suddenly remembers random Norse mythology she read about 15 years ago and is then able to do what no professional could. I just hate that trope. Apart from that there were also a lot of typo's still, which distracted from the real story. I highly encourage Ana Stanojevic to keep writing, but also find an editor to help her. I would gladly read part 2 of this series and hope I can see her grow into the better writer she can be.

I'm going to say it again, but I know my rating makes it seem like Fire Wave by Ana Stanojevic isn't good, but it really is good, and I really enjoyed it. According to GR, 3 stars translates to "liked it," and if you look at my personal rating system, 3 stars is a good rating.
The biggest problem for me was that FW just felt kind of lackluster. Like, that sounds harsh, and I don't really want to seem that way, but I don't know how else to put it correctly. But I'll try.
So, where FW fell flat was I just expected and wanted more from it. And that's mostly just execution. Also, the MC, Aiyana, was a little annoying and sPeShUl.
That's the bad stuff; let me just say all the good things now. I loved the idea. The twists were pretty good. I still want to read the rest of the trilogy.
One last thing before I begin the full review. I read this about 9 days ago, and in the time since, I've read 3 other books — one of which I am currently reading. As such, my memory of the finer details may be slightly fuzzy. Please bear in mind that if I forget anything or misremember something, it's NOT because the book was bad; it's just my slightly spotty memory.
So with that being said, on to the full review!
World Building ~ 7/10
FW is set on what I believe is a futuristic Earth. Scratch that, I'm like 99% that it's in the future. I think the concept is pretty cool, but like, I'm not even 100% sure how the timeline lines up. I like the concept of the city (sorry, I can't remember the name, but that's just my memory).
I also like the conept of invading aliens. I'm really curious to know more about their species, why they picked Earth, and a whole lot more.
So, really I like the concept of everything, but I really think there needed to be more.
Characters ~ 6/10
We have our MC, Aiyana, and our main villain, Opsidia. While there are other characters, they aren't really as important to the story (at least, at this point). Overall, the characters are pretty good. I think they're described pretty well and are given some interesting characterizations.
~Aiyana~
Our MC works in a lab, but after strange events, she dons a superheroine alter ego, dubbing herself "Fire Wave." I like the path that she took to turning herself into a superheroine, and I like that she was so investigative, trying to get to the bottom of things.
However, I had a few problems with Aiyana. First of all, she started out kind of stupid. Within the first couple chapters, she decides to go in disguise to investigate a crime scene. What does she choose as her disguise? All black clothing and a beanie pulled down over her face with holes for the eyes and mouth. She then grabs her old baton as defense. Doesn't that scream "criminal" to you? But of course, adding a cape makes it better. 🙄
Then, in said disguise, she decides to take the public transportation to the scene of the crime! Like, what the heck?! How stupid are you?!
Second, when she finally decides to make her own costume, she thinks she can completely design, cut, and sew a brand–new costume all by herself and within a single day. I don't know about you, but last I checked, it's not easy to design a costume yourself, get it right on the first try, and to have it done in a single day.
Also, I'm not entirely sure how chains would help her to swing. Maybe it does, but to me, I feel like I kind of have to suspend any disbelief. And how would no one see her swinging around?
The other major thing, other than her stupidity, is that she seems just way too SpEsHuL for my taste. I think she needs to struggle a whole LOT more. With how easily everything gone for her thus far (and ), I think her luck is about to end.
~Opsidia~
She's an alien. Um, she has another alien shadow, per se, who she just doesn't like. And, um, she's . . . just . . . bad?
I'm not really sure what else I can say about her. I definitely think she's an interesting character and villain. And I think her backstory is pretty interesting.
However, I'm still pretty confused as to her backstory. Also, I really don't know why she's a villain. Like, what's driving her? Really, as far as I can remember, she's bad for the sake of being bad.
Look, I need a reason as to why she's a villain. Give me some moral grayness! Or not! Just give me a reason as to why she's so bad.
Plot ~ 7/10
I might not be a major fan of what the characters did, but I think the plot as a whole was pretty good. I like the bits of mystery sprinkled in there, and I liked reading Aiyana's journey to becoming Fire Wave. Plus, I am excited to see what happens next.
But again, I wish there were more. Give me a bit more of an involved plot. Maybe some more action? More character growth? More investigations? Something!
Prose & Pacing ~ 8/10
As far as I can remember, the prose and pacing were really quite good! I think the pace was good for what was contained within the novella. However, if there were more or if the second book is longer, I think the pace should be about the same, if not a bit faster.
Grammar–wise, there were a fair amount of grammatical errors. Nothing too major, but for a grammar nazi, it just kind of drew me out of the story. My best recommendation to the author is to have multiple people grammar check it. (And it doesn't even have to be me! Just find at least 2 different people to carefully check it.)
Overall
Overall, I really like FW, and I definitely will read the second book. However, I just wanted more from it, and I am really disappointed that it just didn't live up to my expectations.
Nonetheless, I would recommend it others!
3.5 stars!

I know my rating makes it seem like Fire Wave by Ana Stanojevic isn't good, but it really is good, and I enjoyed it.
However, I'm disappointed that I didn't like it more. There were a couple things that bothered me about it (which I'll discuss when I write and post my full review). But until then, I'm just going to say that the concept was great, but the execution needed more work.

|Rating: 😶😶😶3.0
Hm... So many things happened in this short novella. Betrayal, superhero deathly dealings, robberies gone astray... and it was nice. Not great, but highly entrancing. (that's an A from me!) (me trying to be nice right now, and trying to be a good human being all at the same time-)
Keeping my review as concise (who? me? Pfft, okay I'm trying y'all. It's really difficult to shut ze mouth when all of this bubbling information is burning my tongue) as possible, I shall do a short albeit honest tale to entertain souls. Or for smart souls to procrastinate with.
The first thing that basically jumped at me and tore at my hair in hopes of attention, was the fact THAT THERE WERE OTHERWORLDLY BEINGS IN THIS STORY. Yep, y'all know I'm a sucker for the things that live outside our realm of understanding. Like, pretzels, for instance.
The plot of this mini-story was filled with mystery and more than its fair share of possible plot twists. And when I say possible, I mean me being the enormous trust issues filled... thing, actually figured them out beforehand because I just knew everyone was suspicious. Literally, that's always my ish. Suspicious of everyone unless proven otherwise, with making a sacrifice. Very dangerous stuff, yada yada. So, the pace was quite fast and quickly moved over the rocks of slight plot holes that I didn't pay too much attention to (remember, it was moving at the speed of lightning, I needed to be thunder *muffled snort*). And perhaps that's one of the things that took a little out of the overall enjoyment of the book. Yes, it was action-packed, yet I was left feeling a little... lost. Punches here! Punches there! Thrown into a wall here! Thrown into another wall there! Wait, plot twist, look out! It felt kind of like being in a video game where you don't know all the rules, but you're set to win the dang medal because, darn it--- that second book be looking real nice. That's possibly one of the few reasons why I didn't love this book as much as I could've, however, I do see the potential in future plot development and I'm all here for it!
The writing was right to the point, didn't leave me wondering for 50 pages, who the heck was talking. (it has indeed happened before and it was painful) Expressed things with enough descriptions for me to visually be there with the characters as they fought villains and escaped chases. I would've loved for it to have been more showing than telling, nevertheless, a perfect one to have a nice evening with. Surrounded by popcorn, one of the Spider-Man movies playing softly in the background... illuminating your haggard face as you, yet again, begin to feel the onslaught of sleep deprivation... what a wonderful time to be alive, y'all.
Moving on to the characters! I do believe my enjoyment scale would've been higher if this were to have been classified as a middle-grade superhero book. (I do believe a lot of people from that age group would adore a story like this one)
Dear Aiyana, the main character of my soul. Please repeat after me. You. Do. Not. Go. Into. A. Police. Investigation. When. You're. Not. Classified. For. It. Seriously, boo. What did you expect? To go out figuring everything and somehow not getting yourself killed--- oh, oh you did. Oh, okay. Um... this is slightly awkward. In all honesty though, come on, her lab was destroyed. Basically almost killed her. She took some self-defense classes, and suddenly she's Batman/Robin/Black Widow? HAHAHAHA, I think the heck not. Apart from small inconsistencies with her actions throughout the pages, I liked how fierce ad utterly stubborn she was. Wasn't about to give up her city for anybody, no ma'am.
(okay, but, get this--- she started chasing after robbers! Aiyana, please do get some brain cells. I like you, but I would be dead if I was in your place. Pfft. Wait, hold on, I would be dead either way-)
Now, the rest of the characters are enveloped in a shroud of spoilerness, so I'll abstain from naming anyone too specific. (also because my brain is out of business and has yet to return to me) They were okay, filled the book with sassy moments that I appreciated and frankly, I cannot wait for a certain villain to get a redo.
Annnnndddd, I guess that's all--- WAIT. THE SHADOW. THE VILLAIN'S SHADOW. I'M SENSING A SHIP IN THE WATER, Y'ALL. SOMEONE LET OUT THE SAILS!!!
*cough* On a closing note, I sense a lot of potential coming into a series of a heroine that makes dumb decisions and gets hurt because of them (it's so rare when that happens, honestly). I crave good pain scenes, makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable, okay? The plot was pleasant, the characters needed a little work, but I craved to hug them (or slap them) either way, and the overall feel of the narrative was quite good.
I cannot wait for some good villain POVs, oh my GAWD-
When her workplace, Ihode Labs, is the second chemical company to be attacked in Iron City, Aiyana decides to take the investigation into her own hands. What begins as snooping around in a mask quickly develops into a full-on superhero persona that she calls Fire Wave. As Fire Wave, Aiyana discovers that something ancient, powerful, and other-worldly is threatening planet Earth–and she might be in way over her head. I received a free e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. Trigger warnings: death, body horror, fire/explosions, injury, threats, ableism.
This is a fast-paced and action-packed superhero origin story, and I would recommend it for fans of books that are heavily plot-centered. The novel opens on Aiyana first deciding to investigate an attack on her own, and nearly every one after shows her learning the ropes of her new superhero persona, investigating, or fighting off villains. While she doesn’t have any super powers (à la Batwoman), her technology and weapons are creative and interesting, and there are several fun, well-described fight scenes between her and the book’s major villain where Aiyana has to be smarter in order to survive against someone with actual super powers.
The book is weaker in character though. While I really enjoyed Stanojevic’s sassy female villain, Opsidia, and her commitment to evil, we know almost nothing about Aiyana. She has no history, no friends or significant connections, and almost no conversations with anyone outside of Opsidia or the police force, and it shows. I had no idea why she suddenly decided to investigate something in her city or what personal motivations drove her to become Fire Wave. Had she been established more effectively, I think some of the later plot points would have gone over more smoothly.
The writing is also a bit clunky at times, with too many adverbs (”smiling slyly,” “chuckled deviously”) and not enough genuine descriptions or insights into characters, and occasionally cheesy dialogue. There’s also a direct repeat of a scene from the beginning chapters that’s wholly unnecessary. However, it’s a first novel and an indie-pub at that, and the series shows a lot of room for improvement. I like the world-building that’s set up with Opsidia’s home planet and their planned takeover of Earth, and I’m interested in their true agenda and the mysterious shadowy figure that accompanies her. I also like the tentative rapport that’s established between Aiyana and Opsidia, and I feel like there’s a lot of room to explore that later in the trilogy.
I review regularly at brightbeautifulthings.tumblr.com.
It felt like I was reading a comic book but with more detail! I think this was the first superhero book I’ve ever read so it was a fun introduction to the sub genre.
This book is a YA Urban fantasy book, but I do think it reads a little more middle grade. Our main character is in her twenties, but the way the plot is written, it just has a more middle grade vibe, but that isn’t a bad thing, just an observation.
I don’t tend to read middle grade very often so I don’t think I was able to enjoy this book as much as someone who loves that genre!
This was a cute story with an interesting superhero and villain. I do wish there was a bit more development for how Fire Wave decided to become a super hero—it was a pretty fast transition!
This book wasn't bad, I definitely think I would have liked it more if it had been more developed and mature, but it seemed more of a middle grade book. It started off a little too fast paced for me, with the main characters deciding to break into a crime scene and 'investigate' 10 pgs into the book. The dialogue and characters were a little bland, and I would've loved to know more about the mc at the beginning or any character in general.
Despite all this, I did love the idea of the book, with aliens, superpowers, and such. I loved the plot and surprises throughout this book, and really enjoyed the fight scenes and how well and descriptive they were written. I would recommend this for middle graders and/or people who love superhero stories :)

I love superhero stories, urban settings & aliens, so I was excited to dive into 'Fire Wave'. It started promising, but I gradually lost interest.
The Writing Style felt a bit raw and unpolished. Understandably, this is the author’s first work, but the overuse of short sentences and too many “I” statements made the prose feel repetitive and, at times, frustrating. I tried to push through — I’ve been picking it up on and off for months — but it just wasn’t engaging enough to hold my attention. The plot moved slowly and didn’t spark any real curiosity or make me invested in the characters or the story.
Wishing the author all the best — there's potential here, but it didn’t work for me.
for such a short book, it took me so long to even get this far.
This is actually a 3.5 raiting for me. I was sent a digital copy of the book for review from the author. I enjoyed the story and look forward to see where it goes. I will admit I was concerned at first, thinking the writing style would not be for me. Thankfully, in my opinion, the writing got better as the story progressed. I see much potential and look forward to the next in the series.
Thank you to Ana Stanojevic for providing me with a copy of this book! I voluntarily leave this review!
Aiyana knows something odd is going on in the city. When Ihode Labs is attacked she comes face to face with the villain behind it. Despite being warned off, Aiyana can’t help but investigate why labs are being targeted. But to do so, she will have to come up with a clever disguise and make some risky moves. And in the end, she will uncover a lot more than she bargained for.
Fire Wave may be a novel, but Ana Stanojevic added a comic book flair to her writing. I loved the onomatopoeia for each sound. I could picture how the words would be styled if I were reading a comic book. I also enjoyed when Fire Wave fully committed to developing her disguise and gadgets. The energy surrounding her in the moment made her determination all the more entertaining. I couldn't wait to see her test it all out and push against her limits.
The plot was quick to develop and while each shift in scene and direction made sense, I wish there was a bit more build-up in characters. The motivations of certain characters weren’t clear, and some choices they made didn’t quite line up with the information presented to the reader. And while I felt like a working relationship between Fire Wave and the police commissioner was a great move, I wanted to see more work put into developing that relationship and the reasons behind it.
The main antagonist was a delight to read. Obsidia’s powers were unusual, but the sheer destruction and havoc she caused to get what she wanted were undeniably evil. Any time Fire Wave and Obsidia were on the page together, the action ramped up. And given the ability for these scenes to be intense, I wish there had been pieces of foreshadowing dropped in before the big reveal. Just a little something to make the reader think something else was going on.
Fire Wave is a fast-paced and easy read. A blend of fantasy and sci-fi elements creates an action-packed superhero/supervillain origin story. If you enjoy stories about crime-fighting vigilantes give this one a try.
“But as I walked, ignoring her fake smile, little did I know something bad was about to happen”
“Why was I always walking into dark places?”
Thank you to the author for sharing an e-copy of this book with me !!! Wow this book was really good!!! An enjoyable ya sci-fi to keep you entertained even for just a short amount of time !! A story about contradictions and opposites: good and evil, light and darkness, even desperation and hope. I really liked it !!! The combination between the fantasy of the powers and the science convincing from the mention of the chemical labs and the aliens, come on earth for we don’t know which reason !! And the main character is really great !! A strong female protagonist with the role of a lonely but determined and reliable vigilante and executioner, facing hard times when cops cannot !!! And her strange deal with this mysterious commissioner … definitely a matter of interest for the sequels … !!! This book was honestly good and I truly hope I’ll have the chance to read something else from FIRE WAVE !!!
“I’m Fire Wave”
“I never expected a villain to overload your brain, especially after refusing to talk at first”
When the author asked me if I wanted to review her book, I was interested. I’ve been a fan of superheroes but haven’t read many books relating to them. I think the only one I’ve read was Leigh Bardugo’s book about Wonder Woman (which I highly recommend). It wasn’t something I normally read but I’ve been meaning to branch out and read books that aren’t in my typical favorite genres. It’s good to branch out every once in a while.
One of the best things about this book was how much it reminded me of comic books even though I’ve never read a comic book in my life. I should probably rectify that situation immediately. I immediately got major Batman vibes, which is a plus for me because after Deadpool, Batman is my favorite comic book hero. While I saw a lot of similarities, the author still made this book her own. It truly reminded me of a gender bent Batman story and I wasn’t mad about it at all.
Another plus about this book was the MC, Aiyanna. She is a lady in STEM, as a chemical analyst, which I think would be a super cool job but I know nothing about chemicals unless they are in your body. I appreciated how strong she was, both as Firewave and in just everyday life. She’d been dealt a rough hand at life but still wanted to do good and still had a pretty positive disposition about life. I liked her resourcefulness and just her sheer determination to solve the mystery of what happened to her company.
The only dislike I really had about this book was just some of the dialogue. It was a little cringe at times although I think a lot of that was Aiyanna’s personality. The villain also had some pretty stereotypical villain lines. It was a bit tough to read at times but it also had its charm as well.
Overall, this was a good book and I really enjoyed it. I am curious to see where the next book is going to go as this book was kind of left at a cliffhanger. If you are interested in novelized versions of comic books with a strong female lead in STEM, then this is absolutely the book for you.

Review: This book was okay overall. I liked the story and the writing was on point. I liked the characters and I felt like the dialog was great and well done. The plot was also fairly strong and it kept me going throughout the book.
However, I felt like the book had some issues. The pacing was too fast for me and it felt like I couldn’t keep up with what was going on. The characters didn’t feel that well developed and the world building was a bit underdeveloped as well. I think if the book was a bit longer and more expanded it would have been better for me.
Fire Wave is the debut novel of the author Ana Stanojevic. Main character of the story is Aiyana. She is a normal girl who lives in a normal world and works as a chemical analyst. When she read about the attack at the Argon Chemicals, she was determined to investigate the case herself. There could be a risk for her in this. She may lose her job. But curious Aiyana went to the company at night wearing black clothes. She ignored the Warning sign placed by the police.
Aiyana lives in Iron City, her hometown. The mysterious attacker breaks into Ihode Labs. Some chemicals have been stolen. This reminded Aiyana about the obsidian that she found when she investigated Argon Chemicals.
The dialog narration is done nicely. Cover photo of the book and the title is suitable. If you enjoy reading stories about fast paced adventures then you shouldn't miss to get your hands on this book. Plot is intriguing and one couldn't put this book down without finishing it.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I never felt any connection to Aiyanna, the MC, or even Opsidia, the antagonist. This was due in large part to a lack of character development. From the beginning, Aiyanna’s motives were nonexistent. I just couldn’t understand why she felt so compelled to investigate the accidents/break-ins at the labs. I think if her first investigation had been after her own lab had been attacked, then things would’ve made a bit more sense.
I found myself constantly bewildered by the MC. She seemed to have no flaws, other than being nosy. She also possessed this amazing skillset that was perfect for becoming a superhero on a whim, even though she was self-described nobody. Besides a mention of taking a couple of self-defense classes, there was no explanation for how she seemed to be such an accomplished and competent martial artist. And out of nowhere she has brand-new weapons, throwing stars, and customized spears. But how? The whole thing gave off Saturday morning cartoon vibes. Where the heroes and villains inexplicably had access to whatsoever they needed, no matter how outlandish.
She also possessed some Sherlock Holmes-level investigative skills that allowed her to single-handedly solve a 20-year-old cold case in just a few hours. It seems to me that the MC wasn’t impressive, it was just that everyone else was flat-out incompetent and useless.
Opsidia started out as a strong character. She was mysterious, powerful, and undoubtedly evil and ruthless. But all that went out the window the moment she met Fire Wave. Opsidia wounded her instead of killing her, even though it was already established that she was a very skilled murderer. And upon their first meeting, orchestrated by Opsidia herself, she immediately starts telling Fire Wave everything.
The pacing of the story was fast. Things moved so swiftly that at times it seemed like I was missing important parts of the story. The timeline also threw the plot into question. For instance, when she had her first run-in with the commissioner she expected that he already knew who she was, either from the paper or from the thug she caught. But this was her first night out as Fire Wave, so how would she already be in the papers? This was just one of many inconsistencies and plot holes.
The ending was intended to explain and tie up the multitude of loose ends, but really it served as a bandaid for the poor beginning. We never got any background on the MC. None. All we knew about was her current job and those self-defense classes. Sure, her origins were explained, but the fact that we never had any mention of her life prior to the start of the story was just bad storytelling.
Overall these things made it difficult for me to get into this book. The first chapter didn’t hook me so I never felt invested in the story. This is book one in a trilogy, but I don’t think I’ll be finishing this series.
I received a copy of this ebook from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Are you looking for a story that combines fast-paced adventure, a strong female lead, and witty conversations with aliens and superheroes? Then look no further. Ana Stanojevic's debut Fire Wave has it all.
The story is dialogue and plot driven, which is ideal for this type of narrative. There are also switches in point-of-view which make sure that the story remains interesting and which also allow the reader to get to learn more about the aliens.
Very interesting start of a trilogy, with a lot of potential. Perfect for the fans of Marissa Meyer and Marie Lu.
Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book!
This was such a fun read, filled with suspense, action, and magic! It was fast-paced and kept my attention the entire time, but I was confused during a lot of that time.
I liked how the writing didn't have long unnecessary descriptions, but at the same time, I really liked the setting of the chemical factories. I don't even know why, but there's just something really cool and interesting about this setting, maybe because I've never read about it before.
Character-wise, I can't really talk about a lot of them because of the spoilers, but I can talk about our main character Aiyana! She's a great main character and I really liked reading about her, even when she did some stupid things. She's so determined to figure things out and very stubborn in pursuing the truth and what's right. Also, she was pretty relatable at some points. What kind of took away from it though, is that even though I enjoyed the fight scenes (especially with the robbers :) ), it felt unrealistic how she suddenly got so good at it.
Overall this was a fun book and I can't wait for the sequel!
✨ You can find this review and others on my blog! ✨
I feel awful writing this as the book was provided to me for free to read and review but I can’t finish this book. It has been 4 months and I am only halfway through and I am putting it down. Some of my issues with the book is the lack of character development, appearance of skills with no explanation, and typos. The main character seemingly goes from a normal office worker to a crime solving superhero with almost no explanation as to why. She takes it upon herself to solve this alien mystery and I have no clue why. She also somehow makes a whole suit and gadgets to become a superhero and I don’t think any of these skills to do this are explained. It often feels like a deus ex machina situation that happens again and again in this book. Finally this book has so many typos. I got to 51% of this book and had 131 notes on my kindle. The majority of these are just me marking typos. So I am so sorry and I am thankful for the book but this is a dnf for me and I have no plans to return to this book or others in the series.
Aiyana is intrigued by an attack that has happened on a chemical company so goes to investigate, gets a bit spooked but gets something to look further into to discover what has caused the attacks. Then the building she works in is attacked. That is only the start of the adventure!
I found this story took me a bit to get into, but once I got there I was able to wiz through it quite quickly. There is a lot of action from the get-go and a lot of cool characters.
The seem like they should belong to one of the 2 major graphic novel producers. Extremely intriguing.
First al all thanks to Ana Stanojevic for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a superhero and sci-fi story. It’s different from what I’m used to but I end up really enjoying it. The story follows Aiyana, she is a scientists and and a lot curiosity. The city where she lives seems to be filled with crime and danger. So after a few mysterious attacks her instincts leads her to become Fire Wave. Then she uses her wit, intelligence and reflexes to prove herself and help her city. As she moves and finds more facts she gets involved on a conspiracy that involves aliens trying to take over. The story includes a lot of action scenes, lots of fighting and connection to comic vocabulary. The twist are really well made and the story connects well. Yet sometimes it seems a little fast paced to make sense and follow correctly. And I have to say that I usually love multiple points of views, but the changes of narrators in this story sometimes could be a little confusing with a few characters. Overall its past paced and fun. A great read for fans of superheroes and action.
A fun, fast paced YA action packed super hero story. I loved that it kept entertaining the whole way through. Would have loved to see a bit of character build giving them a little depth and understanding on the thought process along the way; would have flowed or tied the bits of plot more smoothly vs. reading it like check points. Overall great plot and great cover, awesome first book! thank you to the author for providing a copy in return for my honest review.
Thank you to the author for sending me the book for free!!! There really isn’t anything better I can say than the user Zitong who also did a review on this, I have the exact same thoughts as them. My main agreement with them was that there was almost too much action, there wasn’t much time to digest what happened.
First DNF of 2022, I was just burnt out and unmotivated to read sorry Ana, I will pick it up however bc I see potential in this book and Ana was so kind to reachout to me. Until I have my strength to continue I will pick it up once I am better. Until then, I will have to DNF this book
◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦
The book, in my opinion, felt like a comic book, it was a quick, fast-paced read and very easy to read, and it didn’t feel complicated or anything.
The book began mysteriously, and I liked the vibe it gave. The heroine is definitely flawed, she’s clumsy and her whole evolution through the book was entertaining, I can’t say it was a character growth because the book was pretty short so there wasn’t much time to have character growth, but you’ve got plenty of action and adventure, there weren’t dull moments in the book which I enjoyed.
What confused me was the fact the heroine wanted information about what’s happening in her town so she can also share it with the citizens but that part never happened, it was mentioned but she never actually shared any of her information with the citizens other than that policeman which didn’t quite do much change anyway.
The book gave me a bit of batman vibes based on the town she was living, her town name, and some other events that occurred in the book, but overall it was a nice read and the big plot twist happens at the end which definitely leaves space for a lot more to be explored into this story.
Fire Wave introduces a compelling premise that blends corporate secrecy, near-death transformation, and a slowly unfolding global threat. Aiyana’s journey from ordinary lab employee to reluctant participant in something far bigger than herself is handled with steady tension and curiosity-driven momentum.
The early mystery surrounding Ihode Labs especially the stolen classified chemicals creates a strong hook, grounding the story in a realistic corporate-science setting before expanding into more speculative territory. Aiyana’s determination to pursue the truth, even against direct warnings, makes her a believable and relatable protagonist, especially for readers who enjoy stories where ordinary people are thrust into extraordinary circumstances.
As the narrative widens to suggest a looming, hidden evil on Earth, the novel successfully shifts gears from suspense to larger-scale stakes. Fire Wave will appeal to readers who enjoy techno-thrillers, science-forward suspense, and origin stories where courage is forged under pressure.
📍Plot It's a story about a girl Aiyana, who discovers that there an alien trying to set up their base on our planet Earth. She used to think she is an ordinary girl, but only did she knew she was not what she thought of. She fights of the evil with a superhero name Fire Wave and ends up knowing her reality and finally helps the commissioner of the city capture the evil.
📍Why you should read this? 1. This is very light read and will keep you hooked as the events progress. 2. I had a "Whattttttttt" session while reading the climax, and trust me I said that aloud and had a stare from my mom. 3. Throughout the books the action sequences are detailed to bits that you can actually image them taking place in front of your eyes.
📍Final Words - It's a perfect book to read over the weekends. A good storyline and a good imaginary goes hand in hand with this one. If you are someone who wants to read superhero kind of books, you might want to pick this one up soon.
