Intentions Duet #2

Good Intentions

Rate this book
Gabriel Romero made me hungry for things I’d never wanted, and starved of the things I didn’t think I’d ever need.
Until now…
Until him…

I was never the man who believed in love, romance, or happily ever afters. I was married to my work, and happy to be that way. Until one night, not too long ago, when an audacious young man lied his way into my life and showed me what I’d been missing.

Bold and sexy, with a face that could melt through the iciest of exteriors, Gabriel Romero is the one factor I never saw coming. There are so many reasons we shouldn’t work—my age, his, our career goals in life—and yet we are drawn together by a passion for music, and each other, that neither of us can deny.

I’ve always been the one to think things through, to follow my head instead of my heart. But if I don’t open myself to what’s possible, instead of thinking of all the ways this seems impossible, I might miss out on the best thing that has ever happened to me.

So I’m taking a chance, and laying myself at his mercy, opening my heart with nothing but good intentions. Only time will tell if Gabriel Romero decides to let me back in.

Good Intentions is the second book in the Intentions Duet.

This was hot and steamy and fun.

but
This was 37 fucking chapters of absolutely nothing. Nothing really happened. I kept waiting for drama or just something interesting but there was nothing. It was just a read

***I received an eArc from the author in exchange for an honest review.***

I really enjoyed the conclusion to the Intentions Duet, it was fun, light, and heartwarming to read with great chemistry between the two heroes while concluding their arcs that were perfectly set up in the Bad Intentions.

I particularly enjoyed how this novel picks up exactly at the end of the first novel and the same communication issues are dealt with swiftly at the beginning of this story. I was pleased with the trajectory of this story and loved all of the little heartwarming moments between Gabe and Marcus. They are absolutely perfect for each other and it was a blast to read their HEA.

Overall this was a great story and I am sad to see it finished. I look forward to the next entry into Ella Frank's Chicagoverse. I loved seeing all of her previous characters make appearances throughout this duet.

I love this from start to finish. I love Marcus and Gabe and their romance from Chicago to New York and back and forth. Critically, this book is far from great but on my personal enjoyment level, it was damn high. I swooned and I laughed. I just loved this down to the bone. These characters have grown so much. Will probably give the other Ella Frank books another try.

The second - and last - book picks up right where book one left off with the couple working out if they want to be a couple. Marcus St. James (42), president of ENN WorldWide News, obviously needs Gabriel ‘Gabe’ Romero (22), who works for Logan Mitchell as a his new personal assistant at Mitchell & Madison Attorneys at Law, who makes him relax and have more fun. But I skimmed this book more than I probably should've. I just lost interested. Nothing happened, it was boring and I even skimmed the sex scenes. If it were me, I would've combined book one and two so you'd have a standalone instead and cut some scenes from this one. It is pretty straight forward and easy to read with little angst and depth, but when it gets too... romantic on top of that it just get tiering and boring.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Contemporary Romance (M/M)
Series: - Series, Book Two.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Marcus St. James.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Sure.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Unsure.
Will I read this again in the future? - No, I don't think so.
Rating - 2.5/2 stars.

Great ending to this duet. And yes, it’s actually just a duet. With an epilogue to prove it. Can you even believe it????? Me neither.

I have to say Gabe and Marcus are definitely some of my favorite Ella Frank characters!

Not a lot of angst in this one. And yes these could’ve been condensed to one book. But all in all enjoyed both books!

Hoping Ryan gets a book.

These two guys were simply 290 pages of pure delight. Their interactions and their different personalities, all brought the story together and into something that will make your heart...happy, for lack of a better word. I don't usually care for "May-December" romances of any genre for that matter, and there is a big age gap here, but they made it work. Marcus has also had to learn to compromise the work balance, but he knew without a doubt that Gabe was the one he always needed by his side. It's a wonderful conclusion to a beautiful love story. Sorry to see it end with only two books.

ETA 7.13.24 - re-listened to just this one this week and I'm reminded of why I love this couple so much. They're definitely a top favorite and I wish we had gotten more time with them honestly.

ETA: Grabbed this duology in audio and am listening to the second book now. I love these two narrators. Yummy voices and definitely perfect for the men they are speaking for. I love the vibrancy to Gabe and that sexy low tones for Marcus - so perfect for them!

ETA 2: Yeah, like....I love these two, so so much. I really hope we see the two of them show up in Ryan's stories!

Honestly, I think this is now my favorite couple after Logan and Tate from this author - Gabe and Marcus hit me in ALL The feels with their chemistry, banter, emotions, and love story. And I LOVED reading about them. I didn't want this book to end, and for the first time in a while, I found myself wishing this was a trilogy instead of a duology.

Despite a 20 year age gap, these two really are perfect for each other. Gabe is an old soul who knows what he likes and knows that he doesn't want 22-year-old boyfriends. Marcus needs something OTHER than work, and the vibrant young man he meets is just absolutely perfect to breathe some fresh air into his life.

I gotta say - I LOVE having updates with Logan and Tate and then Robbie and his husbands - Robbie meeting Gabriel was just perfection. And reading about them all together - this made-family of Chicago men, it just warms my heart. Please keep giving us stories set around this found family, I love checking in on them all and seeing them interact with new characters.

Just perfection. Get the first book and prepare to fall in love with Marcus and Gabriel.

Marcus + Gabe #2

If you're weird like me ... you might want to read at least Ella's Prime Time series before reading this duet - because that's where we meet Marcus for the first time. And then also the Confessions series - those guys appear here too. And of course the Temptation series - that's where we meet Logan (Gabe's boss) - and it's the best series ever! BUT - this duet can be read as a complete standalone! 😊

Okay. Do we all remember how the first book ended?
I obviously didn't (#Bookalzheimers!) - but I re-read my review for the first book and I checked the end of the book - where I highlighted a few paragraphs. 😉

Marcus went to New York for a job interview and he didn't tell Gabe. And Gabe was pissed. Understandably. But he also knows that Marcus never had to think about anyone else before. He never had a real relationship. So those two quickly make up. Very adorably and sexily I might add.
And then we just have to fight a bit more for that age-gappy happily ever after.

I really enjoyed reading this. Even though I'm not a fan of huge age gaps.
But those two just belong together!

This second book started a bit slow for me - maybe I wasn't in a ready mood today - it was way too hot! But I still love those two guys and I loved how it all ended. I wouldn't have minded a longer epilogue or even a third book!
But I loved that we didn't get those silly unnecessary misunderstandings and fights - all those drama moments we usually get in a book.

Great end to this adorable and sexy age gap love story!

“Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way.”

This was just excellent from start to finish and such a perfect ending to the duet. Marcus and Gabe are divine.

I'm so glad I didn't have to wait long between the two books, Bad Intentions and this one, Good Intentions, because I think I may have combusted.

Gabe was just gorgeous, he totally came into his own in this book, and the scenes where he played for Marcus were just *chef's kiss* 💙. Marcus is hot AF and the chemistry between the two MCs was just 🔥🔥🔥, something Ella Frank does soooo well. And he made some really good choices 😍.

I loved the cameos from Logan & Tate, Cole, Priest and Robbie & Julien. Just quietly, Logan and Tate are still totally 💖💖.

All the stars ✨✨✨✨✨.

2.5 ish stars? 3 stars? undecided. i liked the first book more tbh. this one had it’s moments too though.

loved the cameos of logan, tate, priest, julien & robbie. those five will always be my favourites in the chicagoverse, but marcus & gabe were pretty fun to read about too.

can we talk about how marcus got a fucking tattoo for gabe after like weeks of knowing him though? talk about being extra. at least it wasn’t his name but still… 💀

i would have liked a more detailed plot overall in this duology or something to make it a little more intriguing. everything was pretty predictable and fell into place way too easily. i think i like a little more sauce in my romances these days. but that’s just my opinion🤭

⭐︎4.5 "good intention" stars!⭐︎

This was a great second installment in this duet. I adored Marcus and Gabe together, they were just so fun and passionate and interesting together.

Where Marcus got in trouble for not telling Gabe about going to New York at the end of book one, we start off immediately where the first one ended with this.

The fallout isn't too bad, if you were worried about it. It isn't bad at all, really. But Marcus does have to work a little to make up for his blunder 😉

But I'm glad it wasn't made into such a huge deal, because Marcus and Gabe hadn't even agreed to being in a real relationship when this happened, and Marcus is learning, so there's no need to make it a big deal.

The rest of the book is essentially drama free. I mean, there's a worry about where Marcus will end up at the end of his contract with ENN, and he has a lucrative offer from New York, but I personally never felt worried and while it was something that could have totally been dramatic, it felt like a natural worry about their relationship and how they'd make it work, but I always felt confident while reading that they would.

My only reason for giving .5 off is that at times it felt almost a little saccharin sweet in the second half near the end. Which is totally fine! And Ms. Frank is known for her fluffiness and at times almost saccharin sweetness, but for some reason in this one it just felt a little too much at times. I mean it was still cute as fuck, but...idk, maybe just if it had held back a little on the saccharin sweetness, it would have been perfect. Maybe it was the specific prose that got to me, idk. But a few times while reading it felt a tad much, is all.

But otherwise, this was a wonderful read. I couldn't help but get sucked into Marcus and Gabe's love, their chemistry, their banter and all that.

And the age-gap was almost a non-issue. I seriously thought Gabe's parents would have a problem with it, but they didn't and I actually quite liked that. Probably not realistic, sure, but nice all the same. Not every age-gap is inherently bad and it shouldn't always be looked down on, unless a couple gives you a reason to be suspicious of that age-gap, ya know?

And Gabe is young, sure, but he's still an adult and know what he wants in life. He had that sort of confidence I think helps if you're with someone 20 years your senior, especially someone like Marcus who is a very successful president of a news channel. And despite that 20 years, these two just worked so well together. Gabe never felt immature, he always felt on the same level as Marcus, and I think that is the mark of a healthy age-gap relationship.

They were truly equals and saw each other as equals. Marcus even makes a point to tell someone who calls Gabe a kid - his boss who is probably older than Marcus - that he isn't a kid. Because he isn't, and Marcus never saw him as one. He sees him as this beautiful, talented, confident, smart man.

They just melted my heart, the love they had for each other. This is why I love Ella Frank books so much, too. She writes relationships so well, and gets across their feelings for each other so well, in my opinion. I feel the love coming off these two throughout.

Definitely a win for me. Now I wonder if Ryan - Gabe's roommate and Alexander's assistant - will get his own romance....I felt like there was a hint of Ryan maybe getting his own book at the end there, but I could be wrong.

As for this, two BIG thumbs up from me. Definitely recommend!

Reread/relisten #2: February 2024

Loved these two and these two narrators! It was great to be back in this world with Gabe and Marcus and also Priest, Robbie and Julien... I do wish that Ryan had a book, or if he does someone let me know what it is!!

Reread/relisten #1: June 2022

Iggy Toma and Aiden Snow were a great choice for this book!

Since my first read I have read: Alexander and Sean’s book; Priest, Julien and Robbie’s book, but not Logan and Tates (I have started that book like 3 different times and each time I stop after 3 chapters…I think I just enjoy their cameos)

Gabe and Marcus 🥰so glad I decided to reread these two!! Loved their journey haha

Original Read/listen #1: December 2021
Audio: 5 Stars for both Aiden Snow and Tim Paige
Book:3.5-4 stars

Same review as book one, since I read this like one long book it’s hard for me to change the review that much

I read both books back to back so it felt like one long book which was enjoyable.

There are cameos from Logan and Tate and Priest, Julien, and Robbie and Alexander and Sean. I haven’t read any of their books but their cameos made me want to start asap.

There was little to no angst, yes there were “problems” that came up but they were resolved pretty fast which was nice!

Also the audiobooks were great!!

Ella Frank knows how to write a scorching hot romance and this second half of her Intentions Duet hits those high notes perfectly.

It's also really sweet, as Marcus St James falls head over heels for the much younger Gabe Romero and realises that, for once in his life, work isn't his priority.

As it dawns on him that he really doesn't want to hurt or let Gabe down, we get a beautifully paced narrative which takes us alongside both men as they navigate potential pitfalls and new challenges.

I've really enjoyed this pair of books from Ella. They're connected into her wider Temptations Universe, so there's plenty of guest appearances from our favourite lawyers and all their extended family and friends.

***3.5 stars***

I’d gone after him with all kinds of bad intentions, but as I stared up into the face of my future, my love, my everything, I knew nothing but good would come from what we shared, because this right here was more than just a dream—it was my life, and I couldn’t wait to spend the rest of it with Marcus. St. James.

This was sweet, romantic, and steamy but nothing really happened? I still enjoyed it because I love Marcus and Gabe as a couple, but I was a little bored reading this. After the grovelling in the beginning (like omg loved how Gabe made sure Marcus grovelled hard), it was just them navigating their new relationship with nothing too serious going on. There was a little conflict with Marcus taking the new job in New York, but we knew that was coming based on book 1. This was towards the end, which is the only time I felt really engaged with the story. Otherwise, the story was still cute with no angst, no OM/OW or OTT drama. Just two people finding love together and sometimes this is exactly what I need.

Thankfully the "drama cliffhanger" from Bad Intentions wrapped up easily and this was an angst free conclusion.

Was it necessary? Probably not. I think these two would have done just fine with one book but what do I know?

I skimmed a little but enjoyed most of it.

I loved seeing Robbie, Julien and Priest. Of course I love every time we get to see Logan and Tate.

Not terrible and a lovely end for sure.

ARC received for an honest review

Woohoo,

Marcus and Gabe are back, and this reader couldn't have been happier.

The first books bad intentions lead to some damn good times in Good Intentions.

I loved the Gabe didn't just give in and roll over (well, he DID do that hahah), and made Marcus work for it. Yeah, sure things got back on track pretty quickly, but there was growth in them both with the way they dealt with issues that arose between,

Plus, they were f*^k hot while doing so, so that helps hahah

Full of smart dialogue, witty banter and so much love between and for this unlikely couple, I really enjoyed getting the conclusion to this duet.

I hope we see more of these lovelies in the future.

Scorching of the heart and the….

Oh yes – it is all here in the conclusion to Gabe and Marcus’ story. If you haven’t read the first in the series, stop what you are doing and back up. It is worth the trip!

Gabe and Marcus were back, trying to recover from a huge misstep at the end of the first book. What continued was the sizzling chemistry, the wry humour and the honesty and teasing that marked their relationship. Was ‘them as a couple’ a given? Not even close. The uncertainty of a new relationship coupled with secrets was going to test them – hard…

Gabe was ever cocky and utterly endearing; seeing in Marcus a lover, someone he could connect with physically and all other ways despite their many differences. I loved how they laughed and embraced those differences, understanding they just were. Gabe’s inner voice was not as sure as his actions but I loved the way he soldiered on through that discomfort to be a sexy, captivating thorn in Marcus’ side.

Marcus, oh Marcus. Older, established and definitely not lacking in the self-confidence department either. Gabe continued to throw him off kilter but he was enjoying that – a lot!

Together, they are a sexy powder keg that erupted in a heat that threatened to topple those charts. That heat, that intimacy, was hard won as real life, and their own hesitations, interfered in their relationship. How they battled through it was a joy to watch…

I felt like I knew these characters personally as I felt their pain, their joy and their laughter. It was all here in a heart-squishing romance that tells the journey of (what has become) one of my favourite couples (m/m or otherwise). Ever.

It seems some supporting characters were already featured in other stories so you know where to find me as I try to stop goofy smiling after that sweet ending… ~Diane, 5++ stars

There's always a time when one of your favorite author is writing something you don't like as much as you wanted to. This time this series is that for me. I just couldn't get close to either Marcur nor Gabe.

I enjoed reading the book but there was that constant thought in my mind that something is missing.

I loved the age gap relationship, and Ella's strength is still the amazing and easily flowing dialogues between the characters. However, my favorite part was still when Logan, Tate, ROBBIE, Priest and Julien were on the pages. They stole the show every damn time and I'm so happy that we got to see them again. So what does it say when I enjoy side characters much better then the main story...?

I'm sorry, this duology is only a 3 star for me.

A perfect May/September romance, highly recommended.

I've decided that Gabe is my new book boyfriend, and this is a perfect second part to the Intentions duet. The journey to Marcus and Gabe's happy ever after was hot, sweet and sexy. I love that while Marcus was intense and broody, he was also funny (some of the scenes with Ryan had me laugh out loud) and clearly out of his depth at times with Gabe. I adored that even though Gabe was cockiness personified he was also vulnerable. There was fun, flirting, sex, kissing (awwww, the kissing) and their 'bad' start ended perfectly and made me smile so hard.

I need more, and I would love for Ryan to have a story, pretty please - I have cookies. Also, I have to say I loved the cameos from the other guys in the Chicagoverse.

I guess I'm done with Ella Frank now. At 25% i was still waiting for some plot to start. There needs to be some kind of tension somewhere but this just appears to be a blah story about two people who fall in love. I don't need scenes of making ramen or making coffee. Too much filler. Ms. Frank also continues to use "squash" when she means quash, and mixes up farther and further. Nitpicking aside, I just really need more story for a book to be worth my time.

At this point I have read about 25 Ella Frank books, and I never thought there would be a time when Priest didn't 100% have my heart but that has changed. Marcus St. James came in and stole my heart like it was his job, before I knew it, I was just in love with everything that was Mr. St. James. Sorry, Priest you are still my OG love, but Marcus is front and center now.

At the end of Bad Intentions book one in the Intentions Duet we really didn't know what was going to happen with Gabriel and Marcus. They had just gone from a weeklong arrangement to trying to date for real all for Marcus to go for a job interview that could potentially have him leaving Chicago. for New York. When Gabe found out he was crushed; he knows Marcus doesn't have any experience in dating or relationships but to just go for an interview without telling him is almost too much for him to take. Even after only knowing Marcus for such a short time he has worked his way under Gabe's skin. Could this mean their almost relationship is ending before it even really starts?

Marcus didn't realize that going for the interview without telling Gabriel could be hurtful but that is because he has never had to consider another person’s feelings before but what's more is he has never wanted to until he met Gabe. After being at ENN for almost 8 years moving on to another position seems like the next logical step in his career but can he willingly leave the man he is falling in love with?

Gabriel and Marcus might be opposites but that is what makes their connection so beautiful. Marcus is twenty years older than Gabe, but Gabe is an old soul and their relationship timeline just makes so much sense even with the instalove added in. Being able to fall in love with them has been EPIC and while I am sad their story is over, I know I can just revisit them anytime I want to.

Marcus & Gabriel get all the freaking stars and love!! Going into the Intentions Duet I didn't think I would love this couple as much as I did because Logan, Tate, Priest, Julien, Robbie, Xander and Sean had taken up so much space in my heart I didn't think there was anymore room. Leave it to Ella Frank to have me falling in love more and more with her Chicagoverse of men. Now, I hope that we get Ryan's story next but who I wonder would he end up with??

"El es el bajo de tu corazon agudo."

I really enjoyed the conclusion of Gabe and Marcus. I love how it started out with Marcus having to work for Gabe's forgiveness after the ending of book 1. To be fair, Marcus did warn him he's lost when it comes to relationships. Then again these two shine in teaching each other lessons. You could even say it's the basis for which their relationship really took off. It was nice seeing Marcus taken down a peg or two after always seeming to be on top of the world.

Gabe is still Gabe. Mouthy and spontaneous he continues to turn Marcus world upside down. Marcus needed Gabe to show him it was okay to let go once in awhile. It was okay to choose something for himself besides work. Even years apart in age it was amazing how much these two men had in common. Their love of the symphony and music was so refreshing to read about. It gave them a level of class, yet they could still turn around and go on a date doing the craziest things together. Gabe and Marcus just fit and their ending was fitting as well. Great steamy read for fans of Ella Frank!

I actually enjoyed this duet a hell of a lot more than what I thought I would because not only were the characters easy to love, the storyline was beautiful. Despite Gabe being 22 and Marcus 42, their maturity level was the same and there was no third act breakup up or dramatic hissy fit.

It was written incredibly well and if you love an audiobook, I highly recommend this duet as it was narrated by Aiden Snow (the most delicious mature voice) and Tim Paige who are perfectly paired and are two of my favourite narrators!

Gabriel Romero made me hungry for things I’d never wanted,
and starved of the things I didn’t think I’d ever need.
Until now…
Until him…

Marcus realised that not telling Gabe about the New York job interview, had hurt the young man. Trying to apologise he agrees to spend the weekend at Gabe's and do whatever Gabe comes up with. Much to his surprise he has a fantastic weekend with the charming, persistent young man.

The second book in the series has the two men appreciating each other more and more every moment they spend together. With feelings roaring to the surface, both try to find the courage to voice these feelings.
Will their strong emotions, the fun times and the family around them be enough for a life together?

I don't know how Ella Frank does it but somehow she manages to up her game with each new love story, filling my heart with yet another wonderful couple. And with Good Intentions, she's done just that as the continuation of the addictive romance between Gabe Romero and Marcus St. James left me swooning like a love-struck fool.

Left a bit devastated right along with Gabe at the end of Bad Intentions, we pick up right where we left off with Marcus in NYC, not knowing why he can't get ahold of the man he can't stop thinking about. In fact, I loved that the usually stoic President of the news channel, ENN was so preoccupied with thoughts of the sexy cellist that he had no clue what transpired in his more than 2-hour meeting. And it's all kinds of crazy-good as Frank makes her men suffer just enough as eventual sigh-worthy gestures make up for all the miscommunication and hesitance to want more from the other.

Gabe and Marcus have to navigate real feelings of devotion and love as they could be separated by miles as Mr. St. James may want to take his career in a new direction. Add to that, new opportunities opening up for Gabe and there is a whole lot of decisions to be made. I could only hope they would make them together and find a way to keep each other close.

And thankfully, as their lives may or may not take a new course, the sexy times these two have are more than a welcome distraction because holy smokes they are beyond erotic. I couldn't get enough of their trysts, watching as they went from having sex to truly making love in a matter of chapters. Add to that the way Gabe's playful demeanor opens up a whole new world for the serious Marcus with unexpected outings that had me chuckling often and you have the love of a lifetime in the making.

Many of the Temptations and Confessions universe characters add just the right touch, offering advice and light-hearted moments when needed the most. In fact, one particular devilishly handsome man surprised me with his well-timed words of wisdom, showing his own growth all these years later. There is something truly magical about this world Ella Frank has created, and getting a glimpse every once in a while will always feel like coming home.

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to listen to Moon River without thinking of Marcus and Gabe. A song beyond worthy for a love so profound, I am forever enchanted with these two and all that they endure. Definitely a must-read (together with book 1, Bad Intentions) in this glorious Pride month, I happily give Good Intentions a huge 5 stars!
