Jan Goldstein was a bestselling Australian author and the four people who attended her latest writing retreat didn’t know one another, but all had many things in common, although they didn’t know it at the time. When Jamie, the only male in the group, spotted Alice he was floored. She’d broken his heart six years prior, and they hadn’t spoken since – he wanted to know what her story was. Simone had been bullied because of her weight as a teenager and was now an Instagram star who wasn’t particularly happy while Beth was there under false pretenses.

As they gradually came to know one another over wine and nibbles, and with Jan leading the discussions, they each realized there was more to one another than was being shown. It was when they were directed to write with their emotions telling the story that the flawless public facades began to crack. What would be the outcome for the four attending the workshop, and the woman running it?

The Long Weekend by Aussie author Fiona Palmer is a wonderfully written contemporary drama set mostly over the three day weekend. It occasionally stepped back in time, showing various pasts, but as the women and one man travelled on their journeys, I was drawn to them and felt for them all the way. Set in Western Australia, The Long Weekend is a thoroughly enjoyable read which I highly recommend.

With thanks to Hachette AU for my ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

The Long Weekend by Australian author Fiona Palmer is a story about four strangers Beth, Simone, Alice and Jamie, who attend a writing workshop with bestselling author Jan Goldstein. With notepads and laptops, the group is ready to learn all they can about writing, but it seems writing is not the only thing that is on the agenda as the group get to know one another it is obvious that not all is as it seems and each group member have their secrets.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. An engaging and heartwarming story which I highly recommend.

The Long Weekend by Fiona Palmer is entertaining and has a thoroughly modern and engaging storyline. It’s fast paced and is a character driven story. Four strangers spend a long weekend together for a writing workshop with a best selling author at a luxury forest retreat. There’s romance, mystery, shocks, hidden agendas and surprises.

There's a multitude of secrets they've all brought along with them. We have single parent and career woman Beth, Simone a successful Instagram star, Jamie a handsome gym owner and Alice a mum with a history of post-natal depression. Each person goes through a journey of self discovery.

I loved reading about the character’s interesting stories and dramas that lay behind the facade of their everyday lives. I adored each one of the guests who each had little in common with one another but found themselves forming unexpected bonds and transformations. The story was relatable and energetic, it was a page-turner for me!

Be very, very careful of who you share your secrets with! Can a weekend away change their lives?

What happens when four strangers come together for a weekend writer workshop? A lot, this is a story that brings out a few truths between these strangers and was a thoroughly enjoyable read, I loved getting to know Jamie, Beth, Alice and Simone and Jan who ran the workshop, come along for the journey it is well worth it.

Beth is a single mum, her reason for being at the retreat is her sister Poppy , she needs to get some answers for her sister and is not going to be stopped.

Jamie, gym owner, single and he has a secret that he wants kept that way.

Alice, mother of two happily married has decided that writing about her past will be the way to help her move forward and to help other woman.

Simone, another who has a secret does she really want to write a book and open up about it, maybe not.

Jan Goldstein best- selling author who runs these workshops to help aspiring writers or is that the real reason she runs them?

All of the characters in this story are fabulous and I loved getting to know them and their reasons for being there, bring them together and there is a kaleidoscope of personalities and emotions and together they open up and find themselves it was so wonderful to see them let their emotions flow and to find the healing that they needed and move on to bigger and better lives, I was cheering them on, lots of emotions from me. Life -long friendships are made all form one long weekend.

Fiona Palmer knows how to give her characters life and pull a reader in and this is one that I would highly recommend, it really is a great read.

My thanks to Hachette AU for my copy to read and review

The Long Weekend was the first book by Fiona Palmer that I have read but certainly won’t be the last. It was a wonderful, character driven story about a group of people who couldn’t be more different. I loved getting to know them all and seeing how it would all come together in the end. It was emotional and relatable and I read it in 2 sittings.

4 strangers at a writing retreat with a famous, best selling author. 4 strangers with secrets. What could go wrong? A single mother, an Instagram influencer, a personal trainer and a mother of 2 with post natal depression. And an author who makes them write about their secrets. It will be a life changing weekend for them all, although probably not in the way that they expected.

Thanks to Hachette Australia for my advanced copy of this book to read. Released in Australia December 1st. A great drama that will keep you turning those pages.

The Long Weekend by Fiona Palmer. (2021).

Simone is a young successful Instagram influencer hiding behind a facade. Jamie is the only man - a handsome personal trainer who looks out of place with a pen in his hand. Finally, Alice is a wife and mum recovering from postnatal depression and is shocked to see Jamie at the retreat...

After really enjoying the author's previous novel (Tiny White Lies) I was sure this book would be a great read and I was totally correct. Set over a long weekend at a writing retreat, we alternate between the four main characters while also jumping back in time here and there to explain their respective histories. I found two of the leads likeable from the beginning, with the other two growing on me as I learnt more about them. I appreciated that when the secrets of each were revealed, they felt believable and realistic. The storyline was engaging and an easy read that I flew through.
Overall: happily recommend for any readers that enjoy contemporary drama fiction, and perfect for a binge read.

‘How on earth was she going to make it through this weekend?’

A sincere, compelling and spirited title for fans of Australian contemporary fiction, The Long Weekend is the latest release from Fiona Palmer. With connection, escape, change, self-discovery, belief and chances all playing a part in this novel’s direction, The Long Weekend is the perfect picnic day read.

The Long Weekend provides an intimate portrait of the lives of four different individuals over a three-day period. In this latest contemporary drama from Australian fiction sensation Fiona Palmer, we see a group of strangers come together to participate in a writing workshop, directed by a top published author. In this picturesque locale, which is nestled in the forests of WA’s mighty south west region, pens are put to paper and past secrets are exposed. We meet single mother Beth, a woman who cannot let go of a terrible accident that she was involved in that remains etched on her memory. The youngest member of this eclectic crew of budding writers is Simone, a successful Instagram influencer. The only male member of this set is Jamie, a fitness industry specialist, a man who longs to be a writer. Finally, Alice is hoping that Jan Goldstein’s workshop will distract her from her family problems. When two group members realise they have been previously connected, it sends sparks flying. Can this foursome forge ahead with their hopes and dreams over this landmark long weekend?

I must say I’m pretty envious of the crew featured in The Long Weekend, the latest contemporary drama from West Aussie farmer, mother and author extraordinaire Fiona Palmer. I think I’d love to take part in a three-day writer’s workshop in the beautiful south west region of my home state of WA. It certainly sounds like an appealing and productive way to spend a long weekend! Whilst I dream of this kind of opportunity coming my way, I will express my thoughts around The Long Weekend, the new contemporary release from bestselling author Fiona Palmer.

Fiona Palmer completely understands the secret beauty of our state’s most stunning, relaxing and picturesque locale. The Long Weekend is set amongst the lush surrounds of the big forest region of our south west, an area of our state that I have had the pleasure of visiting. For those not familiar with this region of our state, Palmer acts as the perfect tour guide, enticing the audience to all of the scenic delights of this amazing area of our country. For me, it was the perfect place to situate a writing workshop base. This was my favourite part of the novel, along with the actual creative process scenes, where these budding writers were able to dabble into the world of an author. Palmer’s first-hand knowledge, thanks to her own direct experience of these writing workshops is evident in this novel.

Fiona Palmer is an author who loves to delve deep into her character set. In The Long Weekend we are blessed to be able to meet four main characters quite intimately thanks to a shifting form of narration. I was able to affix myself to many of the issues plaguing these characters especially in regards to confidence, self-doubt, regret, loss, public image, social media relations, post-natal depression, motherhood, family and trauma. Fiona Palmer’s overall narrative arc is quite fetching, so it is easy to get lost in the problems, secrets, binds, decisions and emotions of these protagonists. I did enjoy the little side serve of romance that is gently embroidered into the plot, but Palmer is careful not to overpower the storyline with this thread. I valued the journey of the cast featured in Fiona Palmer’s latest novel. I thought the epilogue was a great final touch, rounding off this memorable writing themed sojourn.

An inviting tale that will inspire the hidden writers out there to take a leap of faith and sign up to a writing workshop, or alternatively a novel to enjoy over a lazy holiday break, The Long Weekend is a recommended read.

In the contemporary new release from Fiona Palmer, The Long Weekend, four strangers attend a writing workshop retreat run by a bestselling author.

Wife and mother Alice, wants advice on crafting a memoir she hopes will reach women who share her experience of motherhood.
Simone, an Instagram influencer, has been contracted to write a book about her inspirational weight loss journey.
Buff gym owner Jamie, the only male, is coy about his aspirations.
Single mother Beth has come to the retreat at the urging of her sister Poppy, but what she wants to learn from their facilitator, Jan Goldstein, is not something that can be taught.

A largely character driven story, The Long Weekend explores several themes including trauma, loss, forgiveness, redemption, and self discovery. Prompted by a writing exercise, the five protagonists confront and let go of the secrets, mistakes and insecurities that haunt them. There is a lot of emotion in their individual stories, touching on a range of contemporary social issues, which Palmer handles sensitively.

There’s some drama between the characters. Alice and Jamie aren’t strangers after all, though they haven’t seen each other for years, Simone oversteps with her Instagram obsession, and Beth can barely hide her contempt for Jan. Even though it’s not terribly realistic, I liked the romance that flared between two of the protagonists. The connection that forms between all of the characters was more convincing, and I particularly enjoyed the epilogue.

The Long Weekend is an engaging and ultimately uplifting novel, an easy afternoon’s read.

The Long Weekend | Fiona Palmer

A delicious tale of love and friendship, exploring the past and learning to live with the memories that have made us.

Four (unexpectedly not so) strangers sign up to legendary author Jan Goldsteins writing retreat and embark on a journey of self discovery as the past confronts the present. Over three days we learn so much from the four main POVs as each characters narrative play out in present time and flashbacks to their most painful memories. The ones that shaped them, the ones they are trying to write about.

The characters are portrayed so vibrantly they sing from the pages creating a kaleidoscope of colourful people swirling in front of you as you read with each heartbreaking journey laid bare before you.

A wonderfully enjoyable story that will stay with me for some time 🤩

With huge thanks to Hatchette for the gifted copy The Long Weekend is available from 1 December and would make the perfect stocking filler for all romance and feel good story lovers.

The Long Weekend is the fifth contemporary fiction novel from Fiona Palmer. It is the perfect book for both readers and writers as Palmer takes her fans into the heart of a three day writing retreat. With only four participants and a famous author, it is an intimate retreat that takes place in Busselton Western Australia. The Aussie author covers a multitude of topical themes that include social media, obesity, postnatal depression, emotional baggage, grief, tragedy and so much more.

When I first met Simone, I'll admit I didn’t like her. At twenty six, she appeared to be a typical social influencer. While Simone may have been on the retreat to get hints and tips on writing, she didn’t come across as particularly interested. Simone was more intent on growing her business through photos and contacts, particularly with another participant at the retreat. Weight loss was Simone’s business along with the products she used to shift the weight over the last few years. Yet buried underneath the glossy façade is a woman shaped by her past. What was Simone running away from?

From the beginning it was evident that Beth wasn’t at the retreat for the same reasons as everyone else. Even as I got to know the single mum, it was difficult to ascertain why. Beth lived for her infant son Hudson and took care of her father and, sister, Poppy. It quickly becomes clear that Poppy is the writer in the family of three, all who were scarred from recent tragic events. As the tragedy was exposed, my heart broke for everyone. The retreat is Beth’s chance for happiness in her life. Who will catch her eye?

Alice appeared to be the perfect woman. She had a loving husband and two young children. She was on the retreat to write for personal reasons related to her past. Alice’s history involved, like many women before her, suffering from postnatal depression, its manifestation nearly destroying her family. When Alice sets eyes on the handsome Jamie at the retreat, her mistakes come back to haunt her. This may have been the most predictable storyline, but it was still heart wrenching witnessing the pair gain closure.

Jamie was the atypical writer. Tall and buff, the man came from a family of football stars. While he may have had the same physical traits as his brothers, it was because he owned a gym. I admired Jamie’s dedication towards his business but unfortunately, this career had led him to treating women badly in the past. Now a little older and wiser, Jamie was embracing his creative side that came from his mother. He is at Jan’s retreat for the right reasons, but his past is catching up with him and cupid has an arrow ready for Jamie.

Jan Goldstein is the bestselling author that is in charge of the retreat. For most of the story, the elderly woman is an enigma. She lives separately from the other participants and is only accessible at meeting times. During those times, Jan sticks to her plans, uninterested in getting to know the people who admire her work on a personal level. However, one of Jan’s participant’s is interested in her for another reason, especially the mistakes Jan has made in her career. Jan’s failings are about to catch up with
her.

Filled with warmth and love, The Long Weekend is a fast paced read that will fill you with hope no matter your background.

I am such a fan of Fiona’s books as they are gentle and easy to read, yet at the same time fun with clever undertones for consideration. On this occasion, The Long Weekend provides a wonderful tale of friendship and love where Fiona cleverly explores how we must live and learn from our mistakes and, in fact, appreciate how they have made us stronger and into the person we are today.

‘Through the flames had come a friendship, two kindred spirits who had lost so much and needed to find their way back to happiness.’

Fiona always guarantees a story with strong female leads, a certain amount of camaraderie and the requisite romance that is the icing on top. She investigates through her key leading characters, contemporary issues that are sure to speak to many who read it. So you are in for a treat as there are stories within stories that both engage and entertain her readers. Fiona has a real knack for making the characters so real that you could easily make friends with them yourself, sitting down to have a coffee and a chat.

“Looks can be deceiving, Simone. We all like to put on brave faces and pretend everything is alright when inside we are a ball of twisted emotions.”

The Long Weekend sees four strangers come to a Writers Weekend and, with the author herself, all will confront a past that there is no running from. It is a real discovery of self with lessons to be learned. Issues addressed include things such as PTSD/trauma, self image and post natal depression just to name a few. This is where Fiona really shines as she is so adept at weaving both character story and personal growth into a highly engaging narrative. Some really worthy issues are put under the spotlight and handled masterfully by Fiona.

‘How weird is it that we can end up doing stuff we don't like, but can’t seem to find our way out? And yet sometimes the solution is easy - just stop.’ Simone sighed heavily. 'Why is stopping so hard?’

I love supporting Aussie authors and Fiona’s books are always so satisfying. From moments that make you smile (yes! I’m referring to the Jamie Fraser aka Outlander reference LOL), to moments that emotionally challenge you, all beautifully blended into a tale of friendship and growth. Fiona makes her readers aware of some heartbreaking issues and peoples vulnerabilities through the range of relationship storylines. However, ultimately she gives us a feel good story that demonstrates that we all really need to make the most of each and every day.

“The Long weekend” by Fiona Palmer
Thank you to Better Reading and the author, for an ARC of this novel by Australian author, Fiona Palmer.
I absolutely loved that this book was written by a local WA author and was also set in the South West of our wonderful state.
It is a character driven story and centres around four strangers who spend a long weekend together at a writers retreat/workshop held at a forest retreat centre. The retreat was run by a best-selling author, to help aspiring authors hone their writing skills.
Each of the participants were very different from each other and had their own reasons and aspirations for being at the retreat. As the weekend progressed, they were made to write about their secrets, which forced them to open up to each other. They each found this confronting but as they allowed themselves to be vulnerable with each other, friendships formed. I enjoyed getting to know them as they got to know each other.
The author sensitively dealt with some pertinent issues including self image, trauma, emotional baggage, bullying – and the one that resonated most with me, Post Natal Depression.
This was the first book I had read by this author, but it won’t be my last. I thought it was a gripping, unputdownable read which I am happy to recommend. I gave it 4 stars.

There were definitely a few twists and while some were maybe a little obvious, it was an engaging read and I loved the connections between all the characters.

The Long Weekend by Fiona Palmer is not my usual genre by any stretch but I quite enjoyed its page-turnery feel!

A group of four strangers gather for a three day writing workshop with acclaimed author Jan Goldstein. This long weekend will change them all forever. We meet each of the four strangers as the POVs flip between them all. Beth, Jamie, Simone and Alice all have their secrets and the creative writing they do with Jan allows them all to unpack their past and their memories.

While this did have a few clichés and I picked the twist well ahead of time I also found it an easy read which I enjoyed immersing myself into. Love and friendships underpinned the storyline which I found to be an endearing way to frame the book.

December Book Club:

It was a pretty okay read up until the last quarter where they confronted the writer and then all of a sudden everyone’s open and honest and understanding of each persons troubles and they’re all brainstorming and working together to help each individual grow from their troubles and now they’ve all evolved to their best selves and fallen into the paths that’s best for them and all close friends like really? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker for a happy ending but even for me this was over kill.

But yes, it served its purpose. But I’ve definitely read way better books in this genre (holiday reads).

An extremely easy to read Women’s Fiction novel from Australian author Fiona Palmer about a group of aspiring writers who join a writer’s retreat for the weekend to get inspiration for their works in progress. All the attendees are hiding something from their life, but these secrets gradually come out. Not only are they keeping a secret but the writer holding the workshop has an even bigger secret which threatens to derail them all. Their lives will all change forever. I adored this book.
I am a massive fan of Fiona Palmer, so I couldn’t wait to dive into this book. Thankfully it not only lived up to my high expectations; It well and truly surpassed them. This book was everything I had hoped it would be and so much more.
I loved the premise of this book so much. The idea of like-minded people going away for a writers retreat while trying to keep their secrets buried was something that I knew would make for compelling reading. I am usually not a fan of multiple timelines, but it works brilliantly for this story. I loved that we got a chance to learn about each of the characters and their backstories as the main plot was unfolding. By doing this, readers were able to understand each character’s behaviours and motives.
Speaking of characters; this book had a collection of wonderfully well-rounded, flawed characters, that I absolutely fell in love with. Each of the characters in this book; especially those at the retreat, have such a strong presence and individuality about them that you can’t help but be drawn to their stories. Getting to watch the characters develop throughout the story and to see them grow as their secrets were revealed and relationships formed made for a truly wonderful reading experience.
Fiona Palmer had done a fabulous job with this writing in this book. The way she captures emotions and makes you feel like you know the characters and places she is writing about is utterly phenomenal. With so many different sub-plots taking place in this book it would be easy to expect problems with pacing and fluidity but Fiona Palmer has woven the various storylines together seamlessly with her lyrical and cinematic writing.
I honestly don’t have a bad word to say about this book. If you are looking for a book that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming, that will leave you wanting more, then this is the book for you.
The Long Weekend by Fiona Palmer will draw you in and warm your heart.

Thank you so much to Hachette Australia for providing me with a copy of this book, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review!

When Beth’s sister asks her to attend a writer’s retreat to do her a favour, Beth is reluctant to leave her young son, but she knows it’s important to her sister so she agrees to go anyway.

Simone is an Instagram influencer who’s been tasked with writing a book about her rise to fame, and doesn’t really know where to start – or how many secrets she should include.

Alice is recovering from post natal depression and wants to write a book about it, to help other women.

Jaimie is a personal trainer, looking for writing inspiration, who is surprised to see Alice at the retreat – it’s nothing the first time they’ve met.

They’re all there to learn from bestselling author Jan, but every one of them has a secret. How many of those secrets will be revealed and how will they affect their lives going forward? And what exactly is Beth doing there?

The Long weekend was a fun and interesting read. Told from multiple points of view, we slowly learned the secrets each of the characters were holding back and how they fit into their background stories. There was a bit of ‘insta-love’ involved, which didn’t grab me, but the characters and their individual stories were interesting enough to let it slide.

This was definitely a character driven book, the focus was really the past and present events of their lives that took centre stage. What I thought would be the main ‘mystery’ plot line really just fell into line with all the other sub plots. A perfect read for sitting by the pool this summer!

When four strangers attend a long weekend hosted by a best selling author for a writing workshop, their lives are changed forever.
A group of aspiring writers gather together at a secluded retreat.
Beth, Simone, Alice and Jamie don’t know each other but before the three days are over, secrets from each of them will surface and they will know each other a whole lot better.
Overseeing the haven is Jan Goldstein, acclaimed writer of many profitable fiction stories, who is also hiding a secret.
But when it all comes to an end, the truth, their emotions and creative ways will all be revealed.
A character driven contemporary drama that includes a number of issues and themes that are very well executed into the storyline.
Continuing her success in the ‘life lit’ genre, we have a plot that’s realistic and entertaining, a cast of misfits with emotional baggage all against a scenic backdrop.
Each character gets their chance to tell their story with each chapter dedicated to someone including tales from the past all woven together quite successfully.
I really don’t know how Fiona does it will a full time farm job and to produce a book a year and all that comes with making that happen, I certainly take my akubra off to her.
A great book that can easily be read in one sitting and enjoyed by the fire with a cup of tea or sunbathing by the beach.

Poppy convinces her sister Beth to go on the writers retreat, even though Beth is not a writer. The plan is to expose some wrongs wrought years ago. Single mum Beth is reluctant to leave her eleven month old son. Hudson, for three nights. But she feels powerless to refuse Poppy’s plea for help. Poppy and Beth have scars from the death of their mother in a car accident that left Beth scarred on the outside but Poppy scarred on the inside.
Each of the four participants in the workshops run by renowned author Jan Goldstein have secrets and emotional baggage. Simone is a successful instagram star. But how much is a facade? Jamie, the only man of the group, owns a gym and is a personal trainer. He has a secret, not even his father and successful AFL brothers have any idea about. Alice is wife and mum to children, Mia and Abe. After the birth of Mia, Alice suffered from postnatal depression. When all participants arrive at the retreat, it turns out Alice and Jamie know each other quite well, too well for either of them to feel comfortable with each other.
This is definitely a character driven novel, and I enjoyed getting to know them all. It is also a romance and there is a mystery and a whole heap of secrets to uncover. Set in Western Australia this is an entertaining read and I enjoyed it, although I wasn’t entirely convinced by some aspects of the ending. It could be just me. Having said that, all who read Aussie fiction will love it I am sure, as will anyone who likes a well told story that fleshes out each of the main characters. Definitely worth reading

A nice easy read from Fiona Palmer. Really enjoyed the flashbacks of the four attendees which told the stories well.
Nice happy ending, as expected. Nice how the story unfolded throughout. Nice and light.

"Everyone had a story, a past that put them on a journey to their current spot."

A writing workshop with a bestselling author.

A single mother who wears the scars of a tragic car accident.

A handsome gym owner who comes from a family of football stars.

An Instagram influencer who is trying so hard to maintain her image.

A wife and mother who is recovering from postnatal depression.

All with secrets. All with stories to share. All of them about to face their truth.

I really enjoyed this book by Fiona Palmer. It is the first I have read by this author, but it won't be the last.

The way the stories of each character unfolds really keep me intrigued, with flashbacks to their past gving the reader insights to why they are the people they are now.

This is a story about friendship in unlikely places, learning from your secrets and confronting your past.

Highly recommended.

The Long Weekend by Fiona Palmer
Beth, a mother of one, is asked by her sister Poppy to take time out and go on a book writing retreat run by Jan Goldstein, renowned author, in Yallingup, Western Australia, a beautiful seaside area.
There she meets Jamie who is an owner of gym, Simone Kroft who is an Instagrammer and Alice, a mother of two.
Beth wonders what they have in common to want to write a book.
They are introduced to Jan Goldstein and she gives them ideas about writing.
She asks them to write about their deepest secrets but what will come of that. Letting out their secrets to a group of strangers!!
Soon secrets are revealed, the group finds out that even Jan has a few mysteries.
This book had a lot of “Oh” moments, thinking you had sorted out a secret and then you left wondering.
I loved this book and it was a great page turner for me.

This was a nice contemporary story set in and around Perth, Western Australia. Beth is a young, single mother of Hudson who is 11 months old. Her older sister Poppy, convinces Beth to go on a weekend writer's retreat to do some 'infiltration' for her. I won't spoil the plot, but Beth reluctantly goes even though it is Poppy who is the aspiring writer.
Four other people are at the retreat, Jamie the buff and sexy owner of his own gymnasium, Alice who is beautiful and wealthy, Simone an over the top social influencer and Jan the bestseller author who is running the retreat.
The three students start to get to know each other and it becomes awkward as they are told to write about their deepest secrets, and then Jan reads out one of the stories without naming the author. This sets off a ripple effect that has them all trying to figure out who wrote it and what it could mean.
The story comes to a head with multiple confrontations and a fallout that changes all of their lives.

I was lucky enough to be selected to preview The Long Weekend by Fiona Palmer and what a privilege it was to read! A real page turner where I found myself not being able to put the book down. I just needed to find out what was happening next.

Four strangers attend a writers retreat for the weekend. Ofcourse they all have their own secrets. Everyone has secrets. Very intriguing the whole way through – you never really can know someone properly, can you? Such different people, each with their own unique story to tell. Reading through I felt as though I too was on the retreat; that feeling of getting away for a weekend. Getting to know each individual and finding out about their lives along the way.

Highly recommend reading this novel, you won’t be disappointed. Thanks again to Better Reading for the opportunity!

Over a weekend, four strangers attend a writing retreat hosted by best selling author Jan Goldstein. Beth, Jamie, Alice and Simone are all there for their own reasons, but all of them are harbouring deep secrets.... Even the renowned author.

As they get to know one another, those secrets become exposed. Who has the most to lose? Is it Jamie and Alice, who once had an affair? Or Simone, who knows her social media influence is nothing but a lie? Or is it Jan, who has a connection with Alice, that will threaten her career? Alice is out to expose the author, after she betrayed her older sister Poppy.

I do enjoy Fiona Palmer's works. This one is quite sweet with the underlying messages of acceptance and forgiveness. I quite liked the setting of a writer's retreat with this one- I can see how easily it could inspire people struggling with their own creativity!

✍️ This story follows four strangers who spend the weekend together at a writers retreat with a best selling author. These four people are completely different and each carry their own secrets.

I anticipated that as soon as I started reading this book that I was going to love it from beginning to end and I absolutely did. I couldn't put it down! I didn't want it to end. The first thing that piqued my attention was the well written and graceful narration throughout. I was engrossed by the four character perspectives and their diverse stories, secrets and thoughts as well as the use of past and present timelines. The plot was cleverly originated with hidden intrigue and suspicions. An extremely enjoyable and easy flowing read. I loved it!! Highly recommend!!
