“He might be wrong, but I’m tired of being right.”

The extreme focus on my career has led to a lonely existence.
I don’t make time for much beyond the hospital walls.
And the pressure is getting to me.

Those who know me best highly recommend I take the edge off by any means necessary.
As it turns out, the new security guard at Bayside Regional is just what the doctor ordered.

Dane Owens is a disaster waiting to happen.
Maybe that’s why I can’t look away.
He plays fast and loose with no plans of slowing down.
Especially when it comes to dating.

We’re polar opposites, which is precisely why this arrangement is temporary.
But there’s plenty to keep us occupied until our expiration date.

All I need is for Dane to follow the rules that long.

A Bayside Heroes standalone romance.

PHENOMENAL. If I had to choose one word to sum up this story, that would be it. Sound the smoke alarms, Harloe Rae has delivered her steamiest book yet in Screwed Up and I am living for it! Dane is a cocky, quick-witted security guard who can't seem to stay settled. Larsen is a busy psychiatrist in desperate need of a release. Together, these two are dynamite! Hilarious banter, crazy hot chemistry, and a straight-up addicting read. This is just the MUST READ you need in your life right now! A TOP 2021 READ!

The HOTTEST Harloe Rae book yet! Gah, I loved this story so much! I love when two characters are fighting their feelings and it's just not working. Dane and Larsen are FIRE. He's a cocky security guard who is not boyfriend material. Larsen is fine with that. She's a buttoned-up tight professional who isn't looking for a boyfriend--just a good time. And BOY does she get it! SHEW! Trussst me, you are going to devour this sexy romance. Watching these two come together is fun, sexy, and so so good. Unputdownable!

Holy fireballs! Dane and Larsen are HOT!!! Their dirty flirting was hilarious and more times than not, a precursor to their dirtier, naughtier activities.

Naughty by Nature: TV's 21 Sexiest Scenes, As You Picked 'Em | EW.com

Just by being himself, Dane brought out the other side of Larsen. His play on words, blatant come-ons, raunchy flirting and in your face Halloween costumes opened a door to her that she never knew she was able to enter. Soon, she was the perfect counterpoint to his teasing, smexy ways. As a result, she was experiencing life in a way she never would have expected.

Hot air balloon flight for 2 in Prague | ActiveCzech.com

Both Dane and Larsen had pasts that had left them bitterly scarred and cement walls built to prevent any further hurt from entering their lives. Watching them break through to each other’s hearts was wonderful. Their journey was fun and smexy but when push came to shove, they each had a wealth of work to put into letting the past go.

This was such an enjoyable read with lots of fun secondary characters and plenty of humor. It also had some beautiful moments of romance, instigated by this hero, moving him into one of the most romantic that I’ve read in quite some time. I’ve not read anything by this author before, but I’ll be correcting that oversight.

4 Can You Say Hot Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free-A Quick Review
This was so much fun. When you get interconnected books written by 4 different authors, the continuing interaction of all of the main characters from past, present, and future couples, it is all good.

Dane Owens is the new security officer at the hospital where Dr. Larsen Belle works.
He is all Manly Man and she has been focused most of her adult life to become the conservative mental professional
she is.

These two are so opposite, it is like having two electrical currents cross and spark...and spark they do! Yum.

More Books to Come.

The Bayside Heroes series is just a TOTAL feel good, sexy delight, but I’m pretty sure Harloe Rae’s Screwed Up is going to be my fav. After meeting these characters in the first story, I was DESPERATE to know more about them, and I was not disappointed. I could not get enough of these two- and holy moly, they are so deliciously sexy! Screwed up is feel-good romance at its finest- it’s dreamy, sexy, sweet, and fantastically charming. What a delightful treat from the talented Harloe Rae- my heart is full of all the warm fuzzies!

Sweet, stoic Larsen is devoted to her career as a psychiatrist at Bayside Regional- so much so that she’s forgotten who to cut loose. Her bestie convinces her that flirting with new hospital security guard Dane in the hopes of enticing him for some no-strings fun might thaw her a bit- help her finally have a bit of much-needed fun. She didn’t plan on him being quite so enticing- on the surface, Dane seems like the perfect candidate for no-string fun, but beneath his delicious not-committal playboy exterior he’s quite dreamy. And what started out as just physical soon gets complicated- a surprise for them both.

CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT HOW DAMN DREAMY DANE OWENS IS?! Holy moly- he’s Harloe’s swooniest hero ever. I was not expecting for him to make me giddy with heart eye feelings, but I am madly in love with him. MADLY. From the first moment we see him with Larsen, I was a goner. Not only is he a deliciously sexy and alpha dirty talker, but this man has a heart of gold. He knows just how to push Larsen with empathy and love, he patiently and gently makes it safe for her to have fun outside of her comfort zone, constantly thinking of sweet, adventurous, and charming non-date dates that just had me swooning left and right. I loved how thoughtful he was, how affectionate and giving- but he’s still got that rough, alpha edge I adore in Harloe’s men. I COULD NOT BE MORE OBSESSED WITH HIM. Hands down my favorite Harloe hero EVER- he owns me.

And Larsen was so relatable as a heroine. As someone who, too, has found herself defined by and focused on my career, I felt a real kinship to her need to both be taken seriously and to reconnect with her vitality. Harloe imbues her with so many nuances- she’s got insecurities and baggage, she’s reluctant, but she’s also incredibly witty, fun, and has a bit of her own boldness that Dane brings out. I found her so endearing- and I loved watching her reconnecting with her joy as she leans into the unexpected feelings with the guy who was supposed to be nothing more than a fling. Their chemistry is SCORCHING HOT- the banter, the flirting, the sexy times, HOLY MOLY. Perhaps Harloe’s sexiest book ever. But their emotional connectivity was also so perfectly scribed- there is an ease to their connection, an authenticity. Like they’ve always been the best of friends- it’s really quite charming and has the Harloe Rae sincerity that makes her romances so emotive.

I just could not love this book more- I was smiling, laughing, full of butterflies the entire time. We have a smidge of drama, but nothing too heavy. At its heart, Screwed Up is a sweet and endearing feel-good story that reminds us to just lean into love- hang ups and all. What a fun and lovable story!

I haven't ever read any heroine who is so close to my heart like Dr. Larsen Belle from Bayside Regional and I haven't any hero who I want so badly like Dane Owens, the security guard and protector of hearts and destroyer of panties from the same hospital. Harloe Rae has spiced up this workplace romance so well and has also given it so much swoonworthy feels. My heart is so full and I am deeply madly in love with Screwed Up by Harloe Rae.
.
Larsen always live a strict and professionally life. She has worked hard to be where she is now. The resident Psychiatrist of Bayside Regional. When their new security guard Dane Owens appear with his irresistible sex appeal and promise to show her the fun side of life..she decides to take a chance. And it leads to so much more than casual ( obviously too hot) sex and adventurous outing.
.
Reading about Larsen was like looking in the mirror. I am in the same profession and the same troubles are in my life too. Harloe Rae nailed it and it hit too close to home. I understand her professional insecurities and constant need to prove herself so well. Now if someone gave me a Dane, my life will be perfect. Because this man is jusr wow. Gorgeous body. Devilish charm. Oozing confidence and alpha arrogance and witty appeal. And the perfect man to understand Larsen and push her to break her own boundaries. He had his own issues but he has become a great man. This book could have been renamed as "The Ultimate Guide to World's Best Dates" because they were just fabulous. Awesome. It was prime example of me living vicariously through the book. Larsen is loyal and caring and kind with a side of fierceness and hidden sex vixen. And Dane unleashed that side. They have perfect chemistry. Filthy and sinful. And a perfect soul connection too. The simple fun times they had together as friends are my favourite in the story. It was full of swoon and heartwarming feels.
.
Screwed Up by Harloe Rae is a must read for you if you love alpha hero and strong heroines.

Cute.
I like the role reversal bit and I'm glad it was low drama. At the same time though, I did feel like I needed something more. It was a lot of dates back to back and the same overly sweet dialogue, so it just got a bit repetitive for me. It needed a bit more angst i think between the MCs to keep me on my toes, because everything seemed to go a little TOO smoothly for me. But besides that, it was still a cute book and I liked how sweet the hero was ❤

Safety: safe

No cheating

No ow/om drama

Hero sounded like he was a previous manh*e but it was before the heroine and it's off page, just mentioned by his friends

Oh, my holy hotness. Dane Owens and Dr. Larsen Belle are about to sizzle off the pages and turn up the heat and Bayside.
Psychiatrist Dr. Larsen Owens always plays it safe. She keeps a low profile, does her job and goes home to her quiet house but that is all about to be knocked of kilter by the new employee on her floor.
Dane Owens lives hard and plays harder. He is a man not meant to be tied down but when he is with you, he is a one-man woman. He has just laned a new job as security at the hospital. His post is primarily the psychiatric unit. He soon finds he is made for this role. He is big, buff, a force to be reckoned with a protector by nature.
The initial attraction is explosive between Dane and Larsen. He gives her his best lines and she shoots him down. Until he soon realizes that there really is something beneath that this buttoned up woman that is ready to come out. This is opposites attract at its finest!
Dane is a swoon worthy, dirty taking sweetheart and Dr Belle is an intelligent, snarky, beautiful woman that is about to be swept off her feet by this Beast of a man.

Steamy fun

Easily my new favorite from Rae, this was chemistry-filled and STEAMY, with great banter and a lighthearted, playful feel. She's taken the heat up a notch with this one, leading with the lust before slowly simmering into love. After reading Washed Up, I was excited to read Dane's story, because I could just tell that the good time guy was going to fall hard - and he definitely does. These two have some serious chemistry from the start, and I loved watching the sexy security guard get in over his head. He's the perfect combination of gruff and alpha paired with swoony and thoughtful. It's an unexpected mix that kept me hooked from start to finish.

The story follows Larsen, a psychiatrist who could use a little stress relief. She's always had an uptight, buttoned up personality, but the stress of Larsen's job is getting to her these days. So when a hot new security guard starts work at the hospital, Larsen's friends suggest that she have a little no strings fun. Dane is a good time guy who doesn't see himself ever being in a relationship, so he's the perfect guy for the job - especially since Larsen and Dane seem to have the kind of chemistry that's impossible to ignore. But as the two spend more time together - in AND out of the supply closet - Larsen realizes that Dane is a better guy than she gave him credit for. And Dane realizes that Larsen is the kind of girl that he could spend forever with.

I wasn't overly impressed with the series starter, Washed Up, but Dane's character had me ready to read Screwed Up - that, and Rae is a solid author whose work is always fun to read. This is definitely my new favorite from her. The chemistry sparkles, the banter is fun, and both characters were easy to like. I'm usually someone who prefers a slower burn, but the fling to more setup of this romance worked for these characters, and the many steamy scenes certainly didn't hurt. If you haven't read Washed Up, this will easily read as a standalone, but the authors have done a great job of tying the series together with little moments featuring the friend group. I'm now looking forward to the next book in the series, because this was a light, steamy, and fun read.

Sexy factor MAX!!! Harloe Rae delivers her sexiest book yet! However, you will get the swoon and romance you look forward to.

A sizzling hot, fling-to-forever, romance! These two will steam up the pages as the buttoned up doctor takes on the playboy bachelor.

She's a psychiatrist at the hospital. He's the new security guard. Sparks fly when these two meet. Larsen maybe be reserved in her job but she will surprise you, because Dane draws out her naughty side. He's all about the fun, but the fun with no strings quickly becomes so much more.

I love the evolution of their relationship and the dates are so much fun. Dane brings on the moves as he sweeps Larsen off her feet. It's a hot, fun, and sweet romance that definitely leaves you smiling.

Absolutely Outstanding!!
I relished this story and Loved Larsen and Dane.
This is the second book in the Bayside Heroes series and the hotness just keeps on coming.
These two are completely opposites,Dane doesn't do relationships,he is a carefree playboy and is happy in that fact,as he has issues within his past that molded him that way.A security guard at the Bayside Hospital is were he first meets Larsen Belle a gorgeous but uptight doctor who finds it hard to relax.Until she speaks with Dane and sparks fly and an idea comes to mind were she finds herself uncharacteristically propositioning the sexy new security guard for no strings stress relieving sex.
Dane being the guy he is agrees with no hesitation...and so a hot tantalising affair takes place and the delectable Dr.Larsen Belle starts to unravel especially in Danes Arms,in Danes Bed and in Dane's Heart.
What begins as a casual bit of fun soon develops into something more, they are an explosion when they are together and soon cannot stay away from one another.
I Loved the banter between them its full of innuendo and they are so playful it made me smile so much.Harloe Rae wrote it all brilliantly and I was addicted to every word and enjoyed every minute reading Screwed up.Dane made me swoon more than once for a cocky playboy he was pretty romantic and I enjoyed how Larsen began to open up and let go of her past because she had found Love and trust within Dane.
A Magnificent story to heat up your Winter I Highly recommend it.

Such a sweet read!

I loved and enjoyed Larsen and Dane's story a lot. Larsen is the type of woman who's really have been focused on her work and never really find the time to enjoy life to the fullest. Especially when she has lived a sheltered life because of her parents. When Dane starts working for the same hospital she thought he would be the perfect guy to have a friends-with-benefits arrangement with. Dane is a no-commitment kind of guy so the offer was very much welcomed.

Though both of them are total opposites, they work perfectly. I kind of loved the way their relationship shifted. It didn't seem like it's apparent but you can see it grow. However, I think the pace is a little slow, I would've loved it if it was quick-paced.

After the first book in this new series, I was curious about Lars and Dane. There couldn’t be two people more different, but something interesting was going on here and I wanted to know more. In the end, it’s a ‘casual turned serious’ type of love story, but one that I enjoyed very much anyway.

On one hand, you have Larsen, young female psychiatrist who’s dedicated to her work at the hospital. On the other hand, Dane, who can’t commit to save his life, even to a job, and is happy like that. Because Lars needs to loosen up, and Dane is instantly attracted to her, they decide to start a no strings attached kind of relationship. Just an exchange of orgasms, really. But right from the beginning, they both feel there could be much more between them.

The book was mostly about Dane going out of his way to seduce Lars and convince her that he’s much more than a walking penis. The thing is, with no reference, it was difficult to see what the difference was between his casual hookups and the way he acted with Lars. As for Larsen, who is supposed to change–thanks to Dane’s peculiar relaxation technics–it was such a 180° that it felt like inconsistancy. Besides that, the characters were delightful, and Dane’s level of seduction was definitely off the charts. Totally swoon-worthy.

There was next to nothing regarding a personal journey for either of them. They learn to accept their feelings for each other and commit to a serious relationship, but there’s little change in the other aspects of their life. Sure, Dane settles down, even in his job, but there’s no closure nor real progress in his relationship with his father. Larsen is still dedicated to her work, the lack of confidence she shows at the beginning is never again addressed, and it doesn’t feel like it’s the end of her conflict with her parents.

But if you’re looking for a steamy read, this one delivers. Larsen and Dane are hot together, and the way they explore new aspects of their sex life together was endearing. You can say their story is a story of firsts: first love, first experiences, first serious relationship.

Quickie

- Series: Bayside heroes #2 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #medical romance #no strings attached #opposites attract
- Triggers: some form of parental abuse, attempted violence
- Main couple: Larsen Belle & Dane Owens
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 5/5
- + I enjoyed the way they opened up to each other slowly
- – a bit TOO romantic for something casual between a serial playboy and an uptight professional

These Bayside heroes already owned me, heart and soul, but Dane Owens? He's the kind of the hero you view through the car's side mirror. You know, the ones that say something like “Objects are bigger than they appear.” And no, that's not a euphemism, but this guy, when he decides to commit, everything about his romantic heart is super sized!

Which is quite the surprise for a couple of reasons. First of all, he's the worst player of the bunch and has never, not once, had a romantic relationship. And second, he's about the last hero I would have put with Dr. Larsen Belle. He's a guy who gets bored easily and goes where the adventure takes him, never landing in one place for long.

Larsen is Dane’s complete opposite, and she’s about as buttoned up and proper as they come. A psychiatrist at the hospital, she's turned her back on her ruthless, affluent upbringing and made herself into a competent, caring clinician. Which is admirable, except her job is her entire life.

But boy howdy, do they ever work! Sure, first it starts out as a no-strings, good-time arrangement, but the parameters they initially set start getting chipped away, bit by bit, nearly from the start. And once Dane accepts his fate and gets behind it 100%, oh my heart! *SWOON!* This tough, blue collar ladies man makes romancing his Belle his main goal and mission, and it is glorious!

I love these two together so much, and their heartfelt story sees them overcoming issues from their pasts and finding a future they never imagined. He helps her find her adventurous side and she settles him. Humorous, intriguing, steamy, a full of feels, you won’t want to miss your chance to fall in love with these amazing characters and their heartfelt, emotional, and oh-so-satisfying story!

I liked Dane in the first book, so I was excited to get his story. I also had enjoyed Lars, or Belle as Dane calls her in this book. I loved how their relationship went from casual to more. It seemed really natural and flowed the way I think that type of a relationship would in real life. They enjoyed the physical, but also had fun with banter and getting to know each other. In a way this had a similar theme to the first book in the series, Washed Up, because the characters in that book were doing things that they hadn’t done before to get out of their comfort zone, and in this book, Dane, or Beast as she called him, was taking Belle to do things she hadn’t done before, both in sexy times as well as just normal every day types of things like mini-golf. Or kind of wild adventurous things, like a hot air balloon ride!

Things got good and then they kept going well and all I could think of was how I knew there was going to be one more big thing to tear them apart and I wasn’t looking forward to that because I was loving their relationship! But I did like the way the author handled that big breakup and then the makeup. I believe the characters reacted realistically without a ton of drama in realizing they wanted to be back together.

And as I mentioned at the start of this review, I liked how not only did I know these two a bit from the last book, I got to enjoy those characters from that book and get to know the characters that I know will be coming up in the next two books as well.

I only had a couple things that weren’t stellar for me. The ending seemed to go on a bit longer than necessary after they made up. I almost feel like more of an epilogue could have been done, or maybe I was just feeling it was getting long at the end.

And my HATED part of the story was that they were cheering for the team that beat my beloved Kansas City Chiefs last year at the Superbowl. I like Gronk, but hate Tom Brady, so had to kind of hold my nose at the parts about that. Although I did enjoy Belle’s idea about peanuts and cracker jack snacks at the game. That was cute!

Lars is a new psychiatrist at Bayside and due to her looks, she never gets taken seriously. So maybe that’s why Lars can be a little uptight, to say the least. But when a playboy named Dane becomes Bayside’s new security guard, something switches inside Lars. She wants to live a little more dangerously and proposes a friends-with-benefits arrangement with Dane and of course, he agrees. What they both didn’t agree to? Them falling hard & fast and not knowing what to do when they can’t just be friends anymore…

Screwed Up by Harloe Rae is book 2 in the Bayside Heroes series. I enjoyed this romance and loved the Beauty & Beast aspect. This is heavy on the hookup scenes and I could’ve done with less of those & more romantic development. Dane & Lars’ chemistry was great, though, and I overall enjoyed this romance! 3.5/5 stars.

5 star Review Screwed Up by Harloe Rae
Dane and Larsen could not be more opposite and yet they worked well together. From the first chapter I was drawn into the story that Harloe Rae wove; the characters were easy to relate to and I liked them.
Dane plays hard, with no plans to settle down. That is until Larsen explodes into his life and all bets are off. The chemistry between these two was intense and a connection that will be hard to break.
What starts out as a temporary hookup suddenly morphs into so much more. I loved the passion and heat in Screwed Up but the witty banter added another layer to the story.
It was entertaining to watch their relationship develop and was disappointed when it ended.

LOVED it!!

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: opposites attract
Angst: 😰😰😰
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥
Triggers: none

This was just about the cutest opposites attract I’ve read! The uptight, overworked psychiatrist paired with the sexy, jokester of a security guard who end up being everything the other needed to balance them out ❤️. A well written, medium angsty story that will give you all the feels. LOVED it!

Screwed Up is a bit of an opposites-attract romance. Larsen is an uptight, type-A personality and Dane is someone who coasts through life with no ambitions. But there is an instant attraction between them, and they somehow agree to a friends-with-benefits situation. No strings, just fun.

Naturally, it quickly becomes more as both start catching feelings. Screwed Up is full of sexy chemistry, witty dialogue, and funny moments. Both Larsen and Dane grew emotionally as characters and it was enriching to see so much support from each other and their group of friends.

And yet, I felt like the story dragged on. As much as I enjoyed it, I found myself growing bored at times and wanting to skip ahead.

Nonetheless, Screwed Up was a fun and light read and a great addition to the Bayside Heroes Series.

"We might be screwed up—not to mention an unlikely pair—but the challenge seems to work for us. This battle is better fought together."

Sweet and romantic, encouraging and supportive, heart-felt and emotional, fun and playful, charming and unabashedly sexy.

I adore how Larsen (Belle) and Dane bring out an inner strength in each other that really creates an emotional connection and depth of character that makes a seemingly casual funtime distraction that inevitably turns into more story so much more.

Two down and two to go; I'm loving the Bayside Heroes series!

Dr. Larsen Belle is a psychiatrist at Bayside Regional Hospital. She works too much and life outside of the hospital is nonexistent. When her best friend suggests she find a way to burn off the added stress, the new security guard at the hospital comes to mind. Dane Owens is a hot playboy. He doesn’t do relationships. He is more than willing to help Larsen out. What comes from their brief fling is more than either signed up for and that is a good thing.
I fell head over heels for this couple, especially Dane. If I could have looked in the mirror while reading, my eyes would have resembled Bugs Bunny with heart eyes popping in and out. He is a definite alpha that could dirty talk better than any character I’ve read in quite some time. He helps Larsen live again. He provided a place where she felt safe to step out of her comfort zone and experience feelings she’d never felt before. Their chemistry was pure fire and had me needing a cold shower. I loved their flirtatious banter. The secondary characters were just as fun. I highly recommend this read. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

Larsen Belle is a busy doctor who doesn’t have time for romance but that changed when she crossed paths with the hospital’s hunky new security guard. His flirtatious glances and sexy winks caused her heart to flutter and her mind to wander to places they shouldn't be going. But what if Belle flirted back and threw caution to the wind and agreed to Dane’s playful proposal? He made her feel carefree and uninhibited for the first time in her life. Belle had spent too much time adhering to school, schedules and paperwork and Dane was just the prescription to cure her lonely life.

Dane knows he can convince Belle to spend time with him and if she just wanted a no strings attached relationship, that was fine with him. He can see it in her eyes that she wants him as much as he wants her, or maybe more. Belle appears to be wound up too tight with no way to relax and have fun. He can think of many ways to entertain Belle, but he doesn’t want to come on too strong. Dane senses that she comes from a much different place than he did and he hoped he could somehow fit into her life and busy schedule. Belle was a challenge that he would gladly take on if it meant a lifetime of excitement, surprises and romance.

Screwed Up by Harloe Rae is a steamy contemporary opposites-attract romance, and the second book in the Bayside Heroes series—a series of four interconnected standalone medical romances by the following bestselling authors: Kandi Steiner, Harloe Rae, K.K. Allen, and Tia Louise. Screwed Up is told in first person dual POV as it follows the relationship between Larsen Belle, an uptight psychiatrist, and Dane Owens, a cocky security guard.

Larsen is wound up tight and needs a release. She's not looking for anything more than a good time, and Dane is more than happy to help her scratch that itch. It's just supposed to be a fling, but when their hearts get involved, can these polar opposites make things work beyond the bedroom?

This book was so fun! Larsen and Dane come from different worlds. On the surface, they're an unlikely pair, but together, they're combustible. I loved their witty banter, crackling chemistry, and the emotional connection that develops as they become more than just friends with benefits. Screwed Up is sexy, playful, and romantic. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
