If you feel like your brain is “glitching,” or working against you, know that you’re not stuck with the brain biology gave you. An upgrade is possible.
In Brainhacker, you’ll learn how to “rewire” your brain and boost its power. David Farrow, author of The Farrow Method, helps you get inside your own head and call the shots, with concrete exercises and tips to train your brain to work for you. These tricks can instantly boost your memory, improve your reading speed, help you push away pain, and form life-changing habits that actually last—with techniques as simple as a hand movement or a little bit of imagination.
Farrow speaks from personal experience. His unlikely journey from underachieving kid with ADHD and dyslexia to winner of multiple Guinness World Records for memorization is proof that training your brain really works—and can unlock hidden potential. Brainhacker pairs Farrow’s unique, tried-and-true methods with his own story, following his path to success as he searched for solutions to overcome his struggles with focus, memory, sleep, anxiety, self-esteem, and more.
On average, we waste 40 days of the year compensating for our bad memory. Many of us suffer from insomnia, stress, and chronic pain. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a huge surge in the already-huge number of people suffering from burnout and mental health problems. But all of this, from memory to ADHD symptoms to sleep problems, can be transformed with the simple hacks you’ll find in these pages.
If you’re ready to tap into the full power of your brain, Brainhacker is your all-in-one guide to hacking into your brain—and making it as powerful as it can be.
Of all the memory training books l've read this was fine. Loved his focus burst technique, the bits on hacking the gut to hack your appetite, and some of his stories about his time counting cards. But if you're curious about memory there are other books I'd recommend before this, because the way the book is structured and his attempt to make ancient techniques seem proprietary to him - it's confüsing.
The book, Brainhacker, started out as a 5-star book, slowly descended to a 4-star rating, and then the last 95 pages dropped i tdown to the best possibility of a 3-star rating.
My wife had given me this book as a gift on our 32nd Wedding Anniversary. She was always buying me books and I always loved that about her, on top of all the other reasons I so love her. Eight months later, this was the first book I started reading 2 weeks after she breathed her last breath peacefully in my arms. Of the many books-to-read in my queue of already-owned books, this was the kind of style and content that I needed for this time. Plus, it was a gift from my last Anniversary with my beloved bride.
I read this book from July 1 - 11, 2024: 11 days. It took me a total of 553 minutes to read: 9 hours 13 minutes.
What I liked was the mostly short chapters that could be read in a single 10-minute sitting. I liked that its information was accessible to anyone reading - although I did note "Source?" in the margins about a dozen separate times as there is no bibliography of any sort to validate certain claims backgrounds.
The first several sections of chapters (labelled as "Axioms" (perhaps hyperbole to be so named) are really quite excellent and helpful, and experientially learned by the author. Near the end, it seems as thorough the author merely had gone "internet-researching" rather than actually knowing the content as deeply as it appeared in the earlier part of the part.
Ultimately, I find that the best takeaways are from the first half to two-thirds of the book with what the author cleverly labels as "brainhacks." It is worth reading this book, even if only for those earlier sections.
This has become my number one self-help book! I've learned and applied so many valuable hacks to my daily work and life. As you can see, it took me a while to finish this book because I intended to learn one hack at a time. I made sure to absorb, use, and appreciate when and how to apply each brainhack before moving on to the next one.
After reading and applying the brainhacks I've learned, I've developed a greater love for learning since it is suddenly become easier. I've also become more productive, focused, and mindful at work. Most importantly, I've learned how to respond to different situations, especially when encountering difficult people similar to those Dave Farrow encountered growing up.
I highly recommend this to everyone. I have already started gifting this book to my siblings, nieces and nephews, best friends, and colleagues.
He does a great job of telling his story with memory techniques. He even writes about fasting and physical health at the end. I was hoping for more of the technical application of memory techniques but I believe that is why he has his online courses and this book is just a sample of the application.
