Snowed Inn

A Changeling Christmas

Rate this book
An avalanche, a quaint Christmas inn, and an assignment to sit on an international thief until the cops can arrive. What could go wrong?

Felix can’t believe his luck when a perfect stranger offers him the use of a pre-paid cabin at a mountain inn. He’d planned to ignore Christmas this year, working through the holidays in his job as a nurse in a Denver maternity ward. After all, Christmas won’t be the same without his beloved mother, who recently passed. But the inn, decked out like a Hallmark movie set, is the perfect place to soothe his heart, rekindle his Christmas cheer, and maybe even find romance? When a gorgeous ex-Marine befriends him and sticks by his side through a whole day of Christmas activities, Felix thinks he’s found true love.

Riggs’s plans for a ski vacation are buried when an avalanche blocks off the mountain inn where he’s staying from the rest of the world. A midnight phone call enlists Rigg’s help watching a guy on the FBI’s Most Wanted list who is supposed to be staying at the inn. The FBI and the police can’t get through until the avalanche is cleared. Riggs steps up to do his duty one more time. But the man who is supposed to be The Falcon, an international thief, has one hell of a Clark Kent type alter ego, because he seems like the sweetest man Riggs has ever met. The more time they spend together, the more attracted Riggs becomes to him, and the more determined he is to make The Falcon reveal his true colors.

Will love prevail? Or will the law?

A Changeling Christmas is a mistaken identity, snowed in together, rom-com romance with all the Christmas feels.

Fun, festive, and just the right amount of sexy and romantic, A Changeling Christmas landed on the lighter, more humorous side of the holiday reading scale this year.

With a bit of a farcical premise, I wasn’t sure if the “mistaken identity” schtick would work for me, as someone who generally avoids miscommunication in my reads where I can. But the fact remains, I’ve never met an Eli Easton holiday romance I haven’t enjoyed, so even the idea of dealing with a premise I’d usually feel at odds with was a non-issue in her capable hands.

This story was appropriately festive and satisfyingly romantic, but it was the fun and laughter the story provided that really won me over. I had several good chuckles over things that happened and I generally just loved who these guys were as people—particularly spirited, heart-wide-open Felix, who was goodness personified and the perfect kind of character I want to read at Christmastime.

Some silliness and shenanigans transpire, but, for the most part, I still felt everything that happened here—as outrageous as it sounded at first—could actually happen, given the right people and circumstances. So, hats off to Easton for making this story work a treat, even when I was at first unconvinced.

This was yet another in a decade-long line of worthwhile, cosy Christmas romances by this always dependable author. <3

This is a low-angst, Christmasy story, sprinkled with shimmer sugar and seasoned with a dash of intrigue.

Felix, an adorably awkward nurse from Denver, is shocked but pleased when a man he's never met offers up his cabin for the next three days, claiming he has to leave immediately. The guy even leaves his expensive clothes behind. All Felix has to do is use the man's name during his stay. Simple, right?

Well, not so much.

Enter Riggs, retired military / current police officer from New York, who's going to have to spend the next few days alone since his friends can't get to the resort due to an avalanche.

Riggs is called to duty, which involves keeping an eye on Felix. Following a day filled with snowy activities, including building a snowperson together, Felix makes a pass at Riggs, only to be summarily rejected.

Riggs wants Felix, badly, but what if Felix is somehow involved with an international thief?

However, the more time Riggs spends with Felix, the more he's convinced that Felix is exactly who he seems: a kind-hearted man grieving the loss of his mother who truly cares about people.

This story had all the warm feels, with an edge of spice. I appreciated the dual POV and the lovely epilogue. I only wish it had been longer.

Adorable novella about a dorky nurse (Felix) and a cop (Riff) who mistakenly thinks Felix is a master thief.

I loved everything about this. Felix and Riff both end up in a retreat that’s cut off from the rest of the world by an avalanche. Felix, a maternity nurse who tends to scare off men with his social awkwardness, pretends to be somebody else - a master thief who looks quite similar, and who talked Felix into taking over his luxurious cottage for a few days while flees. And Riff, who’s contacted by the FBI and asked to keep an eye on the mysterious and elusive Falcon.

Ofc Riff notices that Felix is very unlikely to be the notorious, ninja-like thief. But it’s fun to watch them fall in love (even if it’s a bit insta lovey - but hey, it’s a Christmas novella, so I don’t really minded it).

It’s cute, heartwarming, funny and fluffy, just like one of those Hallmark movies Felix loves to watch - 4.5 stars generously rounded up, because it’s been just what I needed to read right now 🥰

This guy was an international thief, someone infamous enough to be on the FBI's Most Wanted list? He didn't look particularly dangerous as he carefully poured maple syrup from a bottle onto his pancakes, a little smile of satisfaction on his face.
"Yummy!" he said out loud.
Er... okay. Apparently even hardened criminals liked pancakes.

The moral of this story is don't take a prepaid cabin at a mountain inn from a stranger, because they're on the FBI’s Most Wanted list and are using you as a scapegoat.

Or maybe the moral of the story is to take a prepaid cabin at a mountain inn from a stranger, because then you'll fall in love and have a holiday romance...
___

After a failed attempt at the speed dating event at the mountain inn, Felix is commiserating at the bar. It's there that he's approached by a stranger, who offers him the use of his cabin for the next few days. The only requirement is for Felix to go by his name, Alastor, if anybody asks. He has to leave and he doesn't want the pre-paid cabin to go to waste. Felix is a bit wary of the unusual offer, but chalks it up to his luck changing and accepts.

Riggs arrives at the inn the day before his friends, to get settled and acclimate to the altitude. But then an avalance cuts off access, and leaves him to spend his vacation at the inn alone. Riggs is retired -military and curretly a cop, so when the FBI get an anonymous tip that an international thief, known as The Falcon, is staying at the inn they enlist Riggs's help to keep an eye on him. To keep an eye on a man going by the name Alastor.
___

I really enjoyed Felix's and Riggs's meet-cute. It was so adorable; Felix being his innocent self in awe of the buffet table, while Riggs was trying to suss out if Felix was the diabolical international criminal (see quote above).

On the one hand, I really enjoyed the first half of the book and the premise. But on the other hand, the latter half felt too rushed. The fallout from the mistaken identity should have caused more mistrust, and then there should have been development with Felix and Riggs working through it. But instead it felt like it was brush aside and they were a happy couple already.

All in all, A Changeling Christmas was a fun holiday read with a unique twist.

I had the fortune to beta read this one for Eli and I loved everything about the premise, the setting and the couple at the heart of the story.

Part of the new Snowed Inn multi-author series, set in a luxurious spa retreat in the middle of a Colorado mountain range, each story involves a different couple.

Here it's an ex-Marine, now cop, Riggs who gets a mysterious message from the FBI about a potential master thief hiding out at the hotel and a nurse a bit on his outs having his first Christmas without his mum, called Felix.

This runs through a full range of different tropes from small age gap, opposites attract, forced proximity, mistaken identity and a bit of a suspense/mystery with a seriously sweet romance.

On the way, two unlikely men who would never have met otherwise, slowly fall in love.

3.5 Enjoyable stars!! 💕💕 This was a little bit funny due to the mistaken identity trope. Both Riggs and Felix were great MCs, although Felix seemed a little too naive. I would have liked a little more sizzle and steam between the two but the last chapters felt rushed. Nevertheless, I did love the epilogue and overall conclusion. Highly recommended to all fans of humorous, mildly-steamy holiday romance ❤️❤️ 👍🏻

This is the second book from this series that I read right after Stop The Wedding by RJ Scott.
I was a little skeptical about reading this considering I didn't really clicked with the first book I read.
But this is Eli Easton!
And Felix was really adorable and clueless, poor guy. He's just too amazed by how lucky he was that some stranger gave him a room after stranded at the resort without preparation.
Then enter Riggs, who had a mission to catch a bad guy named Alastor.
Eli Easton writes this mistaken identity smoothly, you just want to cuddle Felix and protect him.
Glad he has Riggs to do that.
This one was an adorable addition for the holiday seasons, where (hopefully) full of fun and love in the air.
Recommended!

I always love Easton's Christmas books, and this was no exception. Although from the title I thought this was a shapeshifter book, thankfully it was not. Very sweet Felix was a delight to read about, and Riggs barrels forth from being a bit too bro-y to a real sweetheart who obviously loves for Felix a lot.

I'm intrigued by this multiple author series and will try the others out.

3.5 rounded up because this is exactly what I needed, a nice quick read. The mistaken identity thing was very well done. It was a bit short but I still feel I got to know both guys (maybe Felix more than riggs) and I get why they fit. The timeline is a bit short for my liking but it still didn't feel insta. You have to suspend your disbelief a bit as to the reason for the mistaken identity but I didn't mind. The epilogue was a bit maybe too suggary but other than that I enjoyed it.

**4.5 Stars**

This was my favorite story from the Snowed Inn series but there were a few things that didn't fit or were missing. If I hadn't read the others in the series this story would be near perfect. As a stand-alone it's great but as part of a series that takes place at the same Inn, basically the same time frame, the same reason for being stranded and with the same side characters (and their individual stories) there were some inconsistencies that stood out. The biggest one, that started in the first story, was the haunted elevator. Some stories used it, some just mentioned it in passing and some ignored it all together. Why have that as part of the charm of the Inn and not have it a small factor in each book?

Overall, not a bad series with a couple of stand out books.

QUICK THOUGHTS

** Holiday/Christmas (but not necessarily Christmas-y)
** Forced proximity/Avalanche
** Mistaken identity (this was well done)
** A Ex-military now cop/a nurse that was a bit on the awkward side but oh so cute
** Rom-com
** Opposites attract
** Made me laugh
** A bit of a mystery
** Sweet
** Heartwarming
** Low angst
** Loved the MCs... Felix & Riggs
** Quick but satisfying ending
** Part of a Multi Author series
** A shared Inn with a few of the same side characters
** Works great as a stand-alone

This was a sweet and fun Christmas story.
I don't really love the snowed in trope, I think it has been overused in m/m romance, but obviously Eli Easton knows how to write a story.
Completely angst and drama free in spite of the bad guy mistaken identity thing going on, this was a good holiday romance.
I tried a few other books in the series and they didn't really work for me.
I would rate this one around 3.5 stars

This was such a bummer. I'm not generally the target market for Christmas fluff but that was exactly what I was in the mood for tonight so I was primed and ready to go, but WTF was this? Felix was so fucking annoying and frankly the entire plot here made no sense, but not in a fun way. Didn't like the characters, didn't enjoy the plot, and couldn't even bring myself to finish.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.75 stars

A Changeling Christmas is part of the multi-author Snowed Inn collection of stories, a set of books that all take place at the same inn when an avalanche traps them for a few days. The stories stand alone nicely and I think the authors have taken a good approach here in that the stories feel like they take place in a shared space, but they are not reliant upon one another. I have only read two of these myself, but rather than a lot of overlapping plot lines or character crossovers, the link is really the inn itself. We see common events mentioned, like a speed dating event or the snowperson building contest. So if you have read multiple books, there is a sense of familiarity that they are all happening at the same place and time. But you can also jump in and out of the stories and still follow along. That said, there is a clever tie in here with R.J. Scott’s Stop the Wedding that I think readers of that book will enjoy, but again, it is not necessary to read both.

Read Jay’s review in its entirety here.

I read a few other books in this multi-author Christmas series last year and really enjoyed them. I knew I really wanted to read this one but I had overdosed on Christmas books and didn’t get around to it. I’m really sad I didn’t because this novella was so good! It was so fun to be snowed in at the retreat again and see some of the characters from other books.

This book takes place almost entirely in one day but honestly it didn’t feel like it at all. It surprised me when I realized this later on in the book as there’s so much going on. But it’s also not too much happening for the story. It does take a while to get to any sexy time (quite late in the story) but again so much was happening it would have not worked with the story to have anything happen earlier.

Felix and Riggs had such a fun story and this is one of those books that absolutely needs the dual POV to make it a light read. It definitely worked well. I loved how much Riggs really liked Felix even though Felix always felt like he was too much. Their relationship progression and HEA was very believable and I feel like it was done right!

If you are looking for a snowed in, mistaken identity, fun Christmas novella I absolutely recommend this one! I’ve read a few books by this author and I’ve enjoyed them all!

Super Sugary Sweet! But so-so story.

Get out that toothbrush, because after reading this Christmas novella you’ll need to brush off the sweetness before you get cavities.

Decent enough, but inmemorable.

It's definitely INSTA ... but I can't help wanting to cuddle Felix because he's so sweet adorable. Sure, he's a bit naive in the beginning... I mean, SERIOUSLY FELIX, you are a bit drunk and this guy TAKES YOU TO HIS CABIN with such a weird request?? Doesn't that turn on some warning lights in you?? But the rest, after Riggs comes into his life (albeit with a secret mission), these two look like they're having fun.

Easy holiday read that makes me smile. So there's that.

Heh, it was okay I suppose. The first half of the book was pretty funny but the second half was rushed and to me, Felix forgave far too quickly Riggs for the way he treated him. Felix was cute but also far too naive and it almost felt like Riggs or another hot guy who would have given him the time of the day would have been the same for Felix.

Okay, if you pick this one up you have to be able to suspend your disbelief because a lot of pretty unbelievable things happen, but honestly it was so much fun! Felix was just so awkward and adorable and Riggs was his perfect match, there to help him out when he falls and boost his confidence by genuinely being interested in him. Set in a resort out in the mountains, a lot happens in this short little christmas tale, so it keeps you flipping the page always wanting more!

A Changeling Christmas is the story of Felix, a nurse, and Riggs, a cop. This is told in first person from both Felix and Riggs’ povs.

First, I’ll start with the cover. The cover model used on this book is a favorite of authors, and I have to say of mine too. Anytime he’s on the cover, I’m going to want to look at the book! Anyway, I’m guessing the cover model is supposed to be Felix because, if I remember correctly, Riggs had reddish hair. I give a thumbs up for using this cover model, lol.

The blurb does a good job of explaining the plot, so I won’t add much to it. This book is a sweet, fluffy, forced proximity, and mistaken identity plot. It has the Christmas holiday feel, and is a quick read. In fact, all the events pretty much take place in one day, from the avalanche the night before, until Riggs figures out what’s going on with Felix/Alastor.

I enjoyed the characters. Felix is extremely naïve in his interactions with other people. But that is probably because he was home-schooled and didn’t have much interaction with other kids because he was bullied when he was in school. He’s empathic and feels deeply when others hurt. He’s also very chatty and misses his mother, who passed away recently. Riggs is more like Felix than it first appears. We find out later that he was also bullied in school until puberty, when he became much more imposing, and the bullying also made him insecure, although not to the extent that Felix is. He wants the same things as Felix, which is finding his special someone who is kind and thoughtful, because he doesn’t like bullies. But the situation surrounding Felix/Alastor has Riggs confused. He’s attracted to a sweet, supposedly international thief. This confusion makes him run hot and cold when he’s around Felix. Which in turn is confusing Felix and ends up hurting him deeply.

The author did a great job of creating two distinct characters and continuing their personalities until almost the end. The one problem I had with this story, is right after the mystery was solved about Felix/Alastor and goes into the Epilogue, was I felt like Riggs’ voice changed. Maybe it was because he no longer had to remain in cop mode, but his voice became too much like Felix’s. I can understand him showing his gentler side to Felix, unfortunately he lost the side that was more disciplined and structured in his speech and behavior and which made his voice distinct from Felix’s.

Overall, A Changeling Christmas is a fast, fluffy read, which is perfect for Christmas. The characters are nice, except for the change in Riggs’ voice near the end. I enjoyed Felix the most, he was extremely sweet. I give this book 4 Stars, and recommend it for your holiday reading list.

I received and ARC from the author. I am giving my honest and unbiased review.

Thank you to the lovely elf who gifted me this book!

Sweet and fluffy Christmas story about a somewhat naive, socially awkward nurse, Felix, and an retired-Marine-turned-cop, Riggs, who meet by chance at a Colorado mountain inn.

A mysterious stranger offers Felix the free use of his prepaid cabin as mystery man has to leave immediately, but asks that Felix use mystery man's name in case anyone asks, because reasons, use the clothing he has to leave behind and whatever else the cabin holds. Felix cannot believe his luck, and, because he's rather naive, doesn't even think to question the motives of mystery man.

Riggs was supposed to meet with his friends for a skiing vacation but his friends can't make it because of an avalanche that cut the inn off from access. And then Riggs gets a phone call from an FBI agent, asking him to check out the man in the prepaid cabin because he's suspected to be an international thieving thief named Alastor Jerrard.

And thus the story unfolds as Riggs tries to figure out if the man occupying that cabin is actually an international thief or a socially awkward but ever so lovable nurse from Denver.

Insta-love is often a difficult thing to pull off believably, but this is Eli Easton and she has no problems doing that at all. There's a little bit of angst but it's woven in nicely, and there are some really sweet moments between Felix and Riggs.

Sweet, fluffy, Christmassy, and fabulous epilogue to boot. What more could you ask for? Read this.
