Bad in Boots #3

Colt's Choice

Rate this book
**Includes mature content**

Elise has never really felt settled, be it in relationships or her career. Regardless of her nomadic ways, one constant has always held true--her love for horses and being outdoors. When she inherits half-ownership to a rodeo ranch, she realizes her path in life has finally been laid. Little does she expect to find her very own cowboy at the end of it. Colt Tanner might be rough-around-the-edges, but he exudes the kind of steely confidence that intrigues her. Not to mention, he looks great in a pair of chaps. Even though Colt is her partner by circumstance, Elise is determined to prove to him she's serious about helping run the ranch. If only all these thoughts about just how good they could be together would stop getting in the way.

Colt has waited half his life to fully own the Lonestar ranch. Then Elise Hamilton shows up out of the blue, claiming half-ownership. With sultry green eyes, long dark hair and kissable lips, the new part-owner of his rodeo ranch might be one of the smartest, sexiest women he'd ever laid eyes on, but Colt knows she's one-hundred percent wrong for him. Even if he could ignore the fact she's from the city, he won't allow himself to forget she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. He's learned from his father's mistakes and has no intention of repeating history. Problem is, like all temptations, the more he tells himself Elise is 'hands off', the more he wants to put his hands on.

Born and raised in the Southeast, award-winning author Patrice Michelle gave up her financial calculator for a keyboard and never looked back. Thanks to an open-minded family who taught her that life isn't as black and white as we're conditioned to believe, she pens her novels with the belief that various shades of gray are a lot more interesting. She's a natural with a point-and-shoot camera, likes to fiddle with graphic design and, to the relief of her family, strums her guitar to an audience of one.

Well, that's the condensed, back-of-the-book bio about moi, anyway. :o)

As for becoming a writer...I wasn't one of those writers scribbling stories as soon as I could write, but I was a voracious reader. At the age of fifteen, I told my mom after I'd finished reading a book, "One day, I want to be the one who writes the kind of books readers think about long after they've closed it."

As Patrice Michelle, I write dark, sexy, action-packed paranormal and contemporary romances.

As P.T. Michelle, I write dark paranormal YA books. My first P.T. Michelle book is coming in July: BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS.

I love cowboys in Romancelandia. I have yet to meet one in real life that lives up to his fictional counterparts, but I don't let that ruin my fantasy. :)

Colt Tanner loves and lives for the Lonestar Ranch and has always believed he'd eventually inherit his uncle's half of the ranch and become its sole owner. But when the time comes, he's surprised to find out that his uncle has left his half of the ranch to someone else - his widow - who in turn gives it to her niece, Elise Hamilton. Colt offers to buy Elise out, thinking that his ranch is the last place a spoiled "princess" used to a wealthy lifestyle like her should be, but she surprises him by refusing his offer and showing up on the ranch wanting to be an active co-owner.

Colt can't help feeling strongly attracted to Elise, but he doesn't believe she's really interested in staying at the ranch in the long run. He's sure she'll be back to her society life as soon as the novelty of living on a ranch wears off, so he holds back. Elise's decision to leave her comfortable (but empty) life in Virginia and move to Texas wasn't made on a whim, and she's determined to convince Colt she's there to stay. If only he wasn't so stubborn...

Hmmm, I kind of liked this story... The characters and the plot were formulaic, reminding me of a much hotter Silhouette Desire book. That in itself wasn't a bad thing, as I don't think there's anything wrong with using a formula that works. I really liked the first 2/3 of the book, but the last 1/3 felt "forced". Some events didn't ring true and were unnecessary. I mean,

As for Colt and Elise, I liked them - but I didn't love them. Colt was the standard alpha cowboy: dominant, protective, gruff, jealous and oh-so-sexy, yay! Elise was strong and independent, but she agreed to Colt's proposal of a no-strings affair a bit too quickly. There was no sexual tension between them, which was a pity, but I can't complain about their love scenes. They were hot and plentiful! *fans herself*

Even though I didn't enjoy this book as much as the previous ones in the series, Ms. Michelle is still one of my authors of interest. I wish she wrote Colt's brothers' books, but I won't hold my breath because it's been more than six years since Colt's Choice was published and there's been no hint about Cade's or Mace's book so far. Oh well.

Erotic Romance

Elise Hamiltion..sultry, green eyes, long dark hair and kissable lips, damn, he'd never been more attracted to a woman. Colt had waited hlaf his life to fully own the Lonestar ranch. The new part owner of his rodeo ranch might be one of the smartest, sexiest woman he'd ever laid eyes on, but Colt knows she's out of his league and 100% wrong for him. Even if he could ignore the fact she's a city-slicker, he won't allow himself to forget she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. He'd learned from his father's mistakes and had no intention of repeating history. But, like all temptations, the more he tells himself Elise Hamilton is "hands off", the more he wants to put his hands on.

Colt Tanner...tall, broad-shouldered and lean hipped, there's just something aobut the steely confidence this rough-around-the-edges cowboy exudes that takes Elise's breath away. He may be her partner by circumstance, but Elise knows he's the bona fide real deal, aka Mr. Right. But first she has to concentrate on proving to Colt she's serious about helping him run the ranch. Man, if only all these thoughts about just how good they could be together would stop getting in the way.

This is the second book in the Bad In Boots series by Patrice Michelle. I hadn't even heard of this series or author before until I came across this book at a used book store. The summary sounded fun and thought this would make a quick read to pass some time at night. Needless to say, my night went without sleep and I fantasized about cowboys more than I should have.

I know it is hard to read about the highly coveted cowboy that sweeps you off your feet. The author did make her cowboys to be better than what you would expect in a romance. The character of Colt actually could be a male you could find on a ranch and instantly have drool running down your chin from his sexy good looks. I liked Colt, but there was one thing about him that made me cringe just a little. I didn't like how possessive he became with Elise. It was constantly Mine,Mine,Mine out of his mouth whenever someone made a play for her. I can understand the possessiveness if say they were engaged or in an actual relationship, but Colt made no mention at first of them seeing each other exclusively.

Elise was smart and sexy in her own right. She could turn on the sex hormones just as quickly as the cowboys. Yet, underneath all the sexy, she also had a brain and knack at business and computers. I liked her input in handling the ranch. I also liked how she wasn't afraid of a little hard work around the ranch. She kept up with the ranch hands and earned their respect.

I loved the side characters of Mace and Cade who just happen to be Colt's sexy and single brothers. They each brought a certain personality to the book that made them enjoyable to read about. I do hope the author plans to continue their stories in future books.

I am happy to have found a new author to read that has a way with writing believable cowboys who happen to be sexy! Now I must go and purchase the rest of her books along with the first book in the series. Don't worry if you haven't read the first book though. This book did wonderfully as a stand alone book.

I love this book. Colts background story was great and Elise’s rich upbringing brought a different tone to the story which I loved. But damn I really wanted colt to punch Jason’s little smug face. Sadly that didn’t happen and I love me a good cowboy fight.
I really want there to be books for Mace and Cade but sadly I don’t think we’ll be getting that anytime soon.
The ending was predictable but was good none the less.

Enjoyable and more rounded out than the previous books.
Played out as expected but I liked getting that glimpse of an insight into the boys mother.
Will be interesting to read the next books.

This one was a bit longer than the previous two in the series and it definitely showed.  I was able to see more development in the relationship.  Great sex scenes, and the chemistry between Colt and Elise was sweet.  I liked the dominance he held over her, making her place beside him.  This one was definitely my favorite in the series.

*The books in the Bad in Boots series can be read as stand-alones, but I would recommend reading them in order.  You have a chance to meet some of the characters in the next book, while also getting to check in with the characters in the previous books.*

Very rare you come across a good book while just browsing for another book. Well that is what happened for me. While browsing and checking up on some other books I came across Colt’s Choice. Cover totally caught my eye, then I read the synopsis and sounded interesting, read some reviews all were 5 stars, then to my surprise fell in love with the novel.

Patrice Michelle had me hooked from the beginning with Colt’s, Texan drawl, rough voice calling Elise, “darlin’”. Colt is one bull headed sexy cowboy that has interest in Elise from their first meeting. He does want her but his mom was upper class like her, then she left his dad, brothers and him for the city. She just could not do the ranch life anymore. He is afraid of getting close to her, afraid she is going to grow bored of this life and leave for the city. But he can not keep his hands off her. Patrice does amazing work on writing a brooding hero that is not all about just thinking why he can not be with someone. He is still brooding and has issues with commitment but Elise has him torn up inside that he can not hold back. I loved seeing his sweet side especially some things he does for her that got me... “sighing”. He had a few jealous moments that I thought were adorable, might not be in your face jealous or throwing a fit but more done in a settle way. I found him to be protective but not the kind that one is in danger, more so with her getting hurt. Especially out on the farm, like fixing fences in a rain storm. I could go on and on how much I loved his character. Colt is for sure in my opinion a swoon worthy hero that got my heart pumping and stomach all tingly.

Love Elise character. Even though she comes from the city, she is strong will, not afraid to get dirty on the ranch and can hold her own, especially when it comes to doing hard ranching work and can take what ever Colt throws her way. She is not your wimpy heroine.

Colt and Elise I adore as individuals and loved them more as a couple. Their chemistry is off the charts. The sexual tension is off the wall, hot. The bar scene is my favorite part. It is a slow, toe curling moment that I for sure thought I was going to have to change my panties. They have many steamy moments that seemed to be everywhere, bar, barn, fence and a few chairs. Patrice is talented in teasing her readers.

The secondary characters were so much fun to read. Mace and Cade are Colt’s brother. Love their brotherly love they have for each other. Just got enough of them that I look forward to their story. They all have their own personality and are dealing with their mom leaving in a different way. Seeing them laughing and playing around on the ranch had me smiling and knowing that it was Elise that brought Colt to smile and enjoy life. Absolutely love all her characters they are so realistic they jump off the pages. The ending was perfect and how it ended was sweet, fun and adorable.

Even though Colt’s Choice is part of a series, it still can be read as a stand alone novel. If you have never read Patrice Michelle before, I highly recommend with Colt’s Choice. Patrice Michelle has a beautiful writing voice not to be missed. It is a all around feel good novel, I am excited to add a 5 star-perfect-keeper rating along with her other reviews. I look forward to reading more of her novels and this series and am now a huge fan.

Patrice Michelle knows how to write sexy stubborn alpha cowboys. Every couple in this series has had smoking chemistry between then and Colt and Elise have that in spades.

Colt Tanner took over not only the running of his family’s rodeo ranch when his father died but also helped raised his two younger brothers. He didn’t think twice when he had to give up his own rodeo career to do so. The ranch was owned in equal parts by his father and his uncle and Colt always figured when his uncle passed he would get his share. Well his aunt decided give it to her niece Elise Hamilton and she’s decided she wants to start over in Texas and help run the ranch much to Colt’s aggravation. The sparks fly immediately with these two but Colt a little skittish about rich city women after his mother left him and his 2 brothers and broke his father’s heart when he was younger.

As this was a full length book there is more plots to this one. We get a glimpse into what it takes running a rodeo ranch from the animal training to public relations and the running of the website to draw in more customers. We also get to see how the desertion and eventual return of the mother affected all three men differently and how some were willing to forgive and others not receptive to the woman that deserted them.

I remember when I first read this thinking these are some of the hottest love scenes I’ve ever read and I’m pretty sure its what started me on my road to loving cowboy romances. If you haven’t read this series and love hot dominate cowboys I highly recommend.

What do a city-slicker and a rodeo cowboy have in common? Uh...nothing, right? Not really.

When Elise Hamilton shows up on Colt's ranch, he discovers that she's his silent partner.

Inheriting half of the rodeo ranch had been unexpected for Elise but she couldn't sell.

Determined to prove Colt wrong, to show him that she had just as much right, just as much grit, just as much determination than any small-town country bumpkin, she sets forth to learn the ways of the ranch. Yeah, that also meant mucking out stalls, feeding horses, mending fence and posts.

Colt thought that the attractive, green-eyed beauty would no sooner forfeit, sell him her half of the ranch and high-tail it back to the city where she came from but after a while, he was seeing a whole new side of this woman.

You know what they say, right? The more you claim a "hands off" policy, the more you want to say "to hell with it" and go for it anyway. Well, sometimes chemistry and the rules of attraction will do just that.

Once again, Michelle has managed to keep my interest and desire to want more from this series. I loved the strength in Elise's character. Her urge to prove Colt wrong, to show him that she had a big heart and that she would do just about anything for the one she loves tugged at my heartstrings.

This book was absolutely amazing, everything about it fitted perfectly, from the story flow to the gorgeous cowboy and his beautiful business partner!!!
The ranch belonged to Colt's dad and his uncle 50/50. Following the death of his father, Colt recieved his half. His uncle gave his wife the half he owned who then gave it to her neice, Elise. So now Colt and Elise are business partners... With one hell of an attraction, that you could feel through the pages!!!
As the story unfolds and the journey begins, they both fight the attraction... Until it gets too strong! Its a fantastic book that i couldn't stop reading once i started and yes Patrice has done it again with a brilliant slow build to the most mind blowing sex which leads to heart warming love!!!
They have so many bumps to overcome, but can they get through it together? Will Elise be able to get inside and unlock Colt's heart? Will he be able to accept that he can trust her with not only the ranch, but his heart?
When certain things get complicated and she disappears... Is it too late? Or can he win her back?
All the answers are here in one book and its definately worth the full 5 stars and i can't wait to continue with the next in series!!!

Story and Writing Style
The story is fairly common: sexy, independent heroine inherits one half of a property, and the rugged, stubborn man is left standing dazed and confused as to how and why that happened. It was a cute contemporary western. The story progressed well, even if the writing seemed a little choppy and amateurish.

Characters
Surprisingly deep for a “little” story like this. Colt and Elise were a fine match resembling the odd couple—Colt’s country ways battling with Elise’s fiery East Coast mentality. Made for some good sparks.

Sex
I thought this was supposed to be erotica. It’s slated as erotica. It’s marketed as erotica. But I was surprised at how tame the love scenes were. Good, but very tame for erotica. I’d place it as a hot version of lovemaking in mainstream romance.

Patrice Michelle writes a well woven tale in this rugged prideful cowboy meets spoiled rich society girl romance. Elise Hamilton was certainly a surprising character by giving up all things spoiled with money and crass society ways for an amazing landscape and harsh realities of ranch life. Colt Tanner defines a rugged cowboy who doesn't rest until all the work is done on the ranch and is stubborn as a mule when it comes to admitting his feelings for the high society gal. Fast paced reading for me and a storyline that makes you want to keep on reading even if it is well past ones bedtime. Just enough spice to keep the romance buzzing and some shady characters thrown in keep this a great story.
This is the second book of this author's that I have read and I would definitely read anything else of hers that I find along the way.

Elise is likable and it takes awhile to warm up to Colt. I do have to say, Colt pulled out all the stops and sure surprises Elise during the fund raiser.
The best scenes are with Colt's youngest brother, Mace. Mace is just such a fun, loving, sexy cowboy. Sure hope he gets his own book in this series.
I rated this 4 stars, but it really is a 3.75.
Even though this is listed as #3 in this Series, there really is not much of a connection
at all to the first two books, which was disappointing.

This book is absolutely fabulous cowboy read by Patrice Michelle! Read this one and too HARM'S HUNGER which I believe is first in this series. I am one who really enjoys cowboy stories and each one by Ms. Michelle's I get immediately! I got this in ebook when it came out and got in print and re-read and it remains on my keepers shelf to pull out anytime to read again and again. Too her vampire books are awesome too! So I won't repeat the blurb, but Colt is yummy!

I like PT Michelle's writing, however struggled with a plot line on this one. I like the 'In the shadows' series' as I feel there was a bit of suspense/thriller running through it. Felt there was a lot that could have been done with the neighbours, or ex's that could have given it a bit more interest and intrigue. Having said that, it's easy entertaining reading and the sex scenes are hot and believable ! nice book to read on holiday laying on a sun-bed!

This was the best book I've read in a long while. It had a level of romance that I haven't read in a long time. The characters both had great strengths with a realistic plot.

I am now going to be searching out the other two in the series. I hope that they can compare to this one. I'm also hoping the siblings get their own story. I highly recommend this book.

Wow, a great story with strong characters. I love this type of book and it didn't leave me lacking. While I enjoy love at first sight I don't want wishy washy or push over characters. This was strong people learning to let someone in and fighting for what they want. I immediately started looking for more books by this author.

Colt's Choice was, plain and simple, boring. The characters were one dimensional and had no personality. The H/h had zero chemistry and the conflict between the two got old very quickly. Hunger and Temptation was the much better book.

Almost 4 stars but...

The last inning (as in baseball) was a total strikeout. Overall I enjoyed this story although it wasn't as good as Book 1, it was better than Book 2. The ending became cliche and that's what made the book loose a star.
