On arrival in Barada Seven, Drusilla is awestruck by the beauty of the planet and the kind people that live there. She is taken to a house and Lester, her tour guide of sorts, promises there is no violence or evil monsters on the planet that will bother her. As she starts to paint she meets Zef of the species Eltran, a water being who lives in the local lake. Zef has another friend though, one that is rarely seen. Manx is a fugitive from the now destroyed planet Zetithian. He has escaped slavery from the evil Nedwuts and they want him back. He has been going from planet to planet trying to stay one step ahead of them. He doesn’t see Drusilla right away, but he smells her. Zetithian’s can only get erect when smelling the desire of a female, and the scent that he smells tells him she is someone very special. He is shy to meet her however, and stays in the shadows to observe her.
Drusilla has a feeling someone is out there watching her and it is not until Zef comes out and confirms that it is Manx that she realizes she has a secret admirer. When they do finally meet, their passion is immediate and intense.
Drusilla and Manx decide they could spend everyday making love and painting, but their blissful happiness comes to an abrupt halt when the Nedwuts track Manx down. With the help of allies, Drusilla and Manx must run for their lives.
Fugitive is just a crazy book and by that I mean – the romance and lust between Manx and Drusilla is so over the top – I don’t think I have read a book like this – ever. I found it to be very entertaining though. Cheryl Brooks does a good job at mixing a book full of lighthearted moments with erotic scenes.
Manx is not really an alpha male – he definitely will protect his female, but he doesn’t have the stern, colder exterior a lot of alphas have. Do you know what he does have? A ruffled penis – and he can point that penis of his in any direction. In fact, nothing is left to the imagination during the sex scenes in this book. I think I read the words “dick,” “cock” and “wanker” more in this book than all other books I have read combined. We have snard (the Levinthian word for semen) running down legs and more orgasms than I could count. One taste of Manx’s – snard – and Drusilla is writhing around in total ecstasy. After one night together, I can’t believe they weren't dehydrated from all the fluid flowing everywhere. With as wacky as all of that sounds, the romance scenes are erotic and sexy in a sci-fi way.
We don’t get a lot of background on Drusilla except to learn her previous boyfriend is gay, so you can assume she has not had the best sexual experiences as of late. She is very flirtatious, likes to have a good time and definitely not shy. I really liked her as a heroine.
It takes at least a third of the book for Manx and Drusilla to actually meet which makes the beginning drag out a bit. Once they do meet, and after one passionate night, they decide they want to be together forever, which is kind of hard to buy into. I also would have liked to see the plot of Manx and his captors described more than just the action scene at the end. However, I enjoyed the action and was glad when we finally got around to learning more about the supporting characters. Although this is the fifth book in the Cat Star Chronicles series, it is the first I have read and reads well as a stand alone.
Fugitive gives you a chance to read about a ruffled penis! What more could you ask for? It is also entertaining and a very unique romance book.
Manx is a Zetithian fugitive with a feline gene that gives him remarkable sexual powers. He has been in hiding in the remote jungles of Barada Seven ever since being marked for extermination by the violent Nedwuts. Artist Drusilla arrives on Barada Seven, enticed only by the promise of finding a nature paradise there. But she discovers a wildlife she wasn't expecting when she encounters Manx. Reckless with desire for the beautiful Earth woman, Manx risks his life to win her as his mate. It's only a matter of time until the Nedwuts find them, but it will take all of Manx and Drusilla's passion, skill, and ingenuity to survive.
Fugitive is a sci-fi romance meets erotica romance and is brilliantly written by Cheryl Brooks. The background to the story is about a breed of warriors who are a mix between cats and humans and their planet has been blown up and any survivors are hunted down and killed and no-one really knows why. The Cat Star Chronicles is all about the few warrior survivors of the war who fought together and were all sold into slavery and how they've survived since, found their mates and are trying to find each other again.
Fugitive is by far my favourite book out of The Cat Star Chronicles. It had everything you could want, mystery, romance, sex, great fight scenes, and good friends.
Fugitive starts off quite simply, Drusilla needing to get away from Earth as her latest boyfriend actually turned out to be gay so she flys off to Barada Seven to paint some exotic birds and get some rest and instead meets the exotic Manx who is determined to bed her. Then everything sort of spirals out of control as the Nedwuts arrive on Barada Seven and Manx disappears into the forest and Drusilla doesn't know if she'll ever see him again. But of course Jack, Cat, Tisana, Leo and there many children arrive to save the day.
Fugitive makes an interesting read and continues with a great series.
Nice world building with engaging characters. It has a great plot but sadly about half of the book I got bored and skimmed to most parts of the story. There were some very interesting characters like Lester and Zef and some interesting sub female characters like Jack and Tisana.
I’ll start out by saying that FUGITIVE is number five in the Cat Star Chronicles by Cheryl Brooks and I have not read the first four books. That being said, I didn’t feel too lost reading FUGITIVE. I imagine that if I had read the first four books I would have come into this book with a little bit more back-story. Some more information about the Zetithians going into the book definitely would have made the beginning of the book a little more understandable; however, as I mentioned, without this knowledge FUGITIVE wasn’t impossible to read.
FUGITIVE follows the highly sexual Manx and the unexpecting Earth woman Drusilla. Like many great romances, Manx and Drusilla find themselves in each other’s presence out of chance. While Drusilla has travelled to Barada Seven for the beautiful scenery, Manx is a fugitive in hiding. If his presence is discovered by the Nedwuts, his life will surely meet a quick end.
One thing I can say about FUGITIVE is that the romance is very present in the story.
Fair warning: FUGITIVE is an adult erotic story.
While the story was good and Brooks seems to have built a lovely world with fascinating characters, there were times where I felt that the story was overshadowed by the erotic additions and the language. Now, I certainly wouldn’t call myself a prude, but there are times when curse words play a vital role in the story and times when they just get distracting. There were a few times when this aspect of the story was just distracting. Again, that’s my personal opinion though.
Like the curse words, erotic additions can certainly play a role in a story and in an erotic story they certainly play a very important role; however, there comes a time for me when the erotic additions overshadow the story. There were a few times in FUGITIVE when it just seemed like a little much. Again, remember that this is just my opinion and these distractions may not be as important to you.
Overall I would probably read FUGITIVE again. I did like the story and am interested to see what else Brooks has up her sleeves.
Book 5 in the series. Not necessary to read previous four although might be a little helpful for in-depth back story.
Terrian artist know for painting birds is sent to Barada Seven by her agent to paint their beautiful birds. However Drusilla soon looses interest in the birds when this Jane discovers her own alien version of Tarzan.
Manx has been running and hiding from the Nedwuts and the bounty on his species since his Planet was destroyed and the survivors either killed or sold into slavery. Zetithian's have been hunted down since but Manx has certain skills that have kept him one step ahead. Namely his nose.
So look forward to a story filled with sex, lust/love, action, comic relief by the name of Zef, a showdown including some past characters. Plus, now I wish Klog existed today, he is one very helpful droid.
Basically, I enjoyed it and would recommend this to sci-fi romance lovers.
Well not as good as the last two but still nothing to sneeze at. Manx - dear lord I love her choice of names - was very hot and sexy but sadly I felt he was lacking that special something that made me connect with him. And Drusilla was the same. Nice all around but nothing particularly special. Zef - the nice lake monster - was really the only source of comedy for three quarters of the book. Mind you the sex scenes were amazing but sadly I had wanted a little bit more plot to fill things out. Oh well, perhaps I'll have better luck with Hero when it comes.
Almost DNF this. I only recently started reading again on a whole but had to take numerous breaks from reading this which resulted in me taking 20 days the finish this book.
The fact that it takes 10 chapters before male meets female protagonist... Is almost bearable. There is still a story to follow. Drusilla comes to a vacation house and Manx is in the nearby woods hiding out. He spies on her.
The thing that made this book unbearable for me was that when they finally do meet... There is a sex scene that lasts for what feels like ten more chapters.
I like this genre just as much as the next person. That's why I'm reading it but there is a limit to how much is romantic and how much is just overkill.
Again this author has inserted useless intimacy that doesn't enrich the relationship or story. It just suddenly feels like you're reading cheap porn. My stomach actually began churning so I took some days off.
Everyday I would come back and read two more pages of it until it was finally done.
When it was done and the story began again, Jack and the rest of previous characters come searching for Manx and find Drusilla.
I was also a little disturbed by the side plot of them giving sperm to the planet Jack's sister lives on. I understand the logic. They're preserving the race. But in romance... Logical isn't always suitable... It felt sort of creepy to me or just wrong.
Of course, when all the characters were together there was another orgy like scene.
I would have liked a more fulfilling ending for this couple. It feels like a scene was cut out. Preparations for the wedding are described and then the story is done.
I'd have liked the see the wedding or at least them getting safely to earth.
This book is one of my favorites from this series, if not my favorite. There is a scene at the beginning that is apparently permanently etched in my brain, since it's what I see in my mind's eye when I think of the series.
Drusilla is a Terran artist who specializes in birds. Her "agent" made arrangements for her to travel to a planet that has begun promoting their tranquil, tropical environment to off- worlders, promising it is safe and peaceful. But on one of her first nights at the remote, lake side cabin, Drusila finds the wildlife includes much more than exotic birds.
Manx has been living in the forest around the lake side cabin for about a year, ever since he ran from deadly Nedwuts on his last planet. He escaped, but knows the bounty hunters will eventually find him again. Then he realizes the cabin has been rented to a woman with the most amazing scent. The question is, can he trust her with his life?
I will say at this point in the series I am just completly over the sex. There's too much and the scenes are too long. I also wish the author was a bit more subtle about her foreshadowing, her way of doing it is a little cringy
A talented woman who paints wildlife, and a man hunted just for existing, found each other on a planet that neither should be on. A wild and adventurous romance blooms on this peaceful planet, with danger lurking close by! Well worth reading every single page!
As I'm going through the series, I'm glad to say that the author's writing has gotten better, along with her character building. Makes reading much more enjoyable.
I mostly enjoyed this sci fi erotica book although it had a few problems. I think it would definitely be more enjoyable if you've read the other books in the series first, although it is not totally confusing if you start here. There is some back story and knowledge of the Zetithians that is more fully developed over the course of the series. The love/sex scenes, of which there are always plenty in this series, seemed a bit too plentiful here to the point where the plot suffered especially in the first half of the book. I also felt that this couple did not know each other before falling in bed together as well as couples in the other books did. So first half of the book was so-so filled with very explicit love scenes. Second half of the book much more action with interaction with characters from previous books.
SPOILERS
There is a part about halfway in where the hero, Manx, takes off because the Nedwuts show up trying to capture him. It rang a little wrong for him to leave without saying a word since the whole story was about him finding his life mate. He should at least told her why he was leaving, and why he wouldn't take her with him. It seemed out of character according to the way the author has explained Zetithian mating. And at the end there was a bit about something special in the moonlight that wasn't explained. I don't like to go "huh"?
Fugitive Fugitive is the fifth book in Cheryl Brooks' Cheryl Brooks Cat Star Chronicles. This story of Manx, a Zetithian male in hiding from bounty hunters intent in killing him for a reward, is one of the hottest books (rivaling only Rogue for intense sex scenes) in this series so far. He can't resist a painter on a sort of painting vacation. Drusilla is from Earth and is trying to recover from her most recent disaster of a relationship in a long line of disastrous attempts to find romance.
This couple is a chemical inferno. They're getting off on each other before they even officially meet! When they finally do hook up, it's explosive. Add to this some interesting locals with fun personalities and you've got a book you can't put down. My life went on hold the moment I began page one, and I had it read in 24 hours. What a ride!
Sadly I didn't like this as much as others in the series (namely the first two). I really just didn't feel a connection between Drusilla and Manx. She's sees him naked with a massive erection and she's in love. He smells her arousal and is caught. Then they do a lot of dancing around each other through intermediaries and BAM they're in bed and in love.
I felt that the first half of the book was too slow and the only real enjoyment was Zef, the water slug-thingie. Now he was hysterical. I did love the second half of the book once Jack and her huge crew arrived to save the day (so to speak). It was great seeing all those characters again. I look foward to Trag's story in Hero.
Once again, my biggest beef with Kindle books is that they're often not neatly labeled so that I can easily see which books comes first in a series. Having bought 4 books by this author in one go, I (of course) chose the 5th in the series to read first. I rock like that. That said, I didn't have any problem following along with the storyline, despite skipping a few crucial pieces of back story. I did feel like the editing was a little off, misspellings and oddly incorrect words kicked up every once in a while (that could have been my Kindle edition, I'm willing to give the book the benefit of the doubt), and there were times the story slipped into what I like to call "fanfiction-esque prose" (where you cringe a little and giggle to try to cover your embarrassment). That said, I did enjoy the book. And I've got three more waiting for me. Sweet.
Fugitive is Cheryl Brooks fifth book in her Cat Star Chronicle series. Each book can be read as a stand alone book but the series does feature some great recurring characters.
In Fugitive, artist Drusilla is on vacation on a tropical planet that is extremely peaceful. The locals do not allow any weapons or anyone with harmful intent on to the planet. Fugitive or should I say refugee Manx is hiding out on the planet. Manx watches Drusilla from the distance until he can no longer ignore his attraction to her.
I really enjoyed Fugitive. I loved Manx. I loved all the secondary characters introduced. I also liked how the romance was the main focus in the story. Of course their is drama and bad guys because the Zetithians are being hunted to extinction but the romance was nicely balanced out with the drama. Highly recommend!
Silly, light, wish we could do without the older books' characters. I really dislike serialized romances where everyone and their mother sequentially shacks up with their true wove and it is one big fuckin family renuion for half of each subsequent book. I dont care about your old characters. Let them go gently into that good night where they belong.
Also, the book is relatively saccharine with long bouts of sex with weird alien penis. And, let me say, no one should call a penis "man meat," nor do I want excessive details about a thing called "snard." Really? That is the word you pick? I think it would be impossible to find a less sexy word, even an imaginary one. Ugh. It sounds contagious. Or a weird combo-flatulence of some kind, like "shart."
But the alien peen is interestingly acrobatic. It has tricks. So if you're into that...
The last thing Drusilla expected to find on vacation was a gorgeous man hiding in the jungle. But what is he running from? And why does she feel so mesmerized that she'll stop at nothing to be near him?
Hypnotically attracted, he will risk his life to have her...
Zetithian warrior Manx, a member of a race hunted to near extinction because of their sexual powers, has done all he can to avoid extermination. But when an uncommon woman enters his jungle lair, the animal inside of him demands he risk it all to have her. Until he saw her, his loneliness threatened to consume him. Would she risk her life to join him...or would their intense pleasure in each other destroy them both?
Drusilla is on sabbatical to work on painting exotic birds. Manx is hiding out in the jungle trying to keep away from the Nedwuts hunting him for the 5 million credit bounty. He smells Drusilla and knows that he won't be able to keep away from her, she's his destiny.
The two meet & start loving each other, but Manx takes off when the Nedwuts come to Drusilla's door with a trumped up story about a dangerous wildcat loose in the jungle. After Manx leaves, Drusilla can't paint the birds anymore, she's so heartsick the only thing she can paint is pictures of Manx. But they turn out to be huge hits back on Earth.
Then Jack & company find Drusilla and the hunt to find Manx is on.
Manx is a Zetithian warrior and a hunted man, so staying in hiding is the safest place for him to be. But when he encounters the beautiful Drusilla, he can't resist her and she too finds him just as interesting.
Fugitive is a steamy, action filled ride. Ms. Brooks' world-building is impressive as well as creative. Her strong heroines and beyond sexy heroes make the read worth it. The pairing of Manx and Drusilla was seductive and enjoyable to read. If your looking for a guilty pleasure The Cat Star Chronicles will fill the bill.
This book gets 5 stars ultimately because I loved Zef! No, you might think that is the hunky lead male. But unless you are into mudskipper creature from the black lagoon types you guessed wrong. Zef is absolutely hilarious. I highlighted a bunch of his quotes. This book was more light-hearted than the others I think. Drusilla and Manx were just two cool laid-back people who fit together perfectly. I also have to add to my review of the last book where I said this series gets better with each book. It is so true.
I love this series. Its book #5 and it was great as usual. This is about another Cat, named Manx who is on hiding on Barada Seven from the Newduts (like the other Zenethians). He encounters the lovely Terran, Druisilla through smell alone. Of course they have interesting new creatures on the planet too with interesting talents. Then of course you see Jack and her motley crew come to the rescue. I loved it as usual.
Once again Cheryl Brooks captivates from beginning to end with imagination that will have one purring with delight. This is her 5th book in her Cat Star Chronicles however, each book is independent from the other so one doesn’t have to read the ones before to understand the plot.
**READER NOTE**This is a very sexual book…personally I found it quite sizzling and mouth watering. MEOW!
I liked the characters in this book. This is the first one I have read even though it is the 5th one in the series. Some of the supporting characters were very funny. If you don't like soft porn and a fullfillment of every woman's fantasy (the mear touch of his seaman makes a woman come) then you won't like this book.
I think I love these books because they are so well written meaning that they are easy to read based on the writing style and they have the right amount of humor. Also some of the future books can get cheesy but these don't. I also like how each book as a story, but then there in an overarching story to the series to weave everything into a much bigger theme and picture.
Book 5 of The Star Cat Chronicles. Yet again Cheryl Brooks gave me exactly what I have come to expect from her writing. A nice light hearted romp with plenty of action and hot scenes between the Hero and Heroine . It also kept the story of the Zitithian’s history and present problems running. Can’t wait to read more of her books.
I liked the plot of this erotic paranormal romance but it was so slow to unfold and the action didn't really pick up until about midway. However, the hero and his species were very appealing. Drusilla goes to remote area to paint birds and feels a strong attraction to the sexy allusive Manx who frequently purrs.
Of all the places to find your muse, on vacation of course. Why not throw in a bossy housekeeping computer, a droid who knows what's good for you, and a giant swamp thing. Throw in wine and whipped cream, and you'll have a mating in the stars. Where ever you are. Oh you #snardlover you! I gave it four stars because, in the end, everyone got a friend.
