There is no way people would go to the lengths they do to get sex if it was really this bad.

That’s what Marisa is thinking after yet another frustrating night. She doesn’t want a relationship. She doesn’t want love, at least not right now. What she does want is some of the hot sex that everyone else raves about…and she doesn’t know where to start.

Enter Darren Knight, Marisa’s best friend and longtime crush. Offering a casual sexual apprenticeship, he helps Marisa gain the confidence to ask for and get what she wants. A sizzling new world opens up for her, including BDSM, stripteases – and Darren’s sexy brother, Eric.

But can she take her newfound confidence to the next level and live out her ultimate fantasy?

I like a boinkfest as much as the next smutmeister but when it's this long (it was SIX HUNDRED EFFIN' PAGES according to my ebook reader) and with no real resolution to the story, it was a D-E-A-D-L-Y bore. There was so many men going thru the revolving door in the (first person) narrator's bedroom, I couldnt keep track.

I understood that the message is that it's hard to get good one nite stand sex but after this, I understood that it's even harder to get good smut to read.

Needless to say, this is straight erotica, not romantica or erotic romance. No romantic lead. I got the sense the the narrator's one true soulmate in the future will be a B.O.B.

Content warning: very light BDSM, one menage episode

In theory this erotica should have been enjoyable (bar for the wonky indent formatting): a separated, soon to be ex-wife simply wants some good sex, and an old friend of hers finally shows her how to ask for it.

The woman in question is competent at her job, if very insecure and she blossoms as the good sex comes her way.

But apart from the gaping plot holes - In any case, I thought there was a lot of telling not showing about how great the sex was. And that doesn't work for me.

On the plus side, at the end Marisa is happy with all the sex she gets, she has become far more self-confident and no one is feeling guilty or jealous.

Reading this has clarified for myself the need to have an emotional investment between the couple in question above the value of friends-with-benefits for my erotica.

Desmond’s Review

I didn’t know what to expect from this book, when I started reading, but immediately was pleasantly surprised. Lauren Gallager’s writing flowed easily through my mind, taking me along, from one scene to another effortlessly.

Between Brothers is erotica and not romance or erotic romance. The main character, Marisa, while resolved as to her ability to enjoy sex, did not become romantically involved with any of her partners (although, she could have - there were some feelings, but subjugated for her sexual freedom).

Ms. Gallagher creates memorable characters, especially in Marisa, the sexually repressed woman wanting more from the bedroom. Marisa and the two brothers, Darren and Eric are fully realized characters, the rest bolster the story, but are there only in supporting roles.

In most all books, there has to be a beginning, middle and an end, as well as some character arc. Between Brothers does have these elements, mainly from Marisa, who goes from sexually repressed to… well, you’ll have to read it to find out, but she does change.

Between Brothers is erotica and the story flows from one sex session to another, using Marisa to narrate in first person-it’s all told from her point of view. As such and, as this book is about her sexual awakening, most of the book recounts her sessions, in explicit detail, with little other material to get in the way of the erotica.

A couple of items I look for upon reading a book is whether I’d be inclined to read other books written by Ms. Gallagher and did I enjoy reading this adventure (yes, it’s an adventure). I have no doubt I would seek other works by her and I thought reading Between Brothers is a good fun read.

This book is dirty

Really there isn't much story development here, there is no "relationship" it's all about the sex. From the blurb is was quite clear what this book was about and it's basically a bit of a porno. It wasn't bad, it was just ok. Some parts where quite steamy but by the end of the book it was all a bit samey.

More power to the lady in this book though, yeah lady go find out what makes you happy then work it.

Must say though the whole brother thing wasn't to my liking, talk about keep it in the family. I'm just thankful their grampa wasn't around. I guess i'm more of a romantic and i prefer novels with more feelings (pardon the pun)

Nice to see a woman in charge though

This book is a lot of sex with some plot on the side. Each scene is hot, detailed and steamy. Marissa learns from one brother to play with the other brother. I like how she learns to explore different aspects of sex. She grows from having boring sex to exploring many different sexual things. There was nothing mundane about the scenes in this story. It seemed as if there was never a repeat. If you are looking for erotica, 5his book is for you!

Terri England did a good job narrating this story. She was able to keep the voices different. It was easy to follow which character was talking. Ms. England used emotions and different inflections to make the story more of a play than just being read to.

If you are looking for a romance menage, this isn't it. This was a book full of hot sex scenes, and was about a woman coming into her own (pun intended), learning how to ask for what she needs. The actual menage isn't until the end, and unlike other menages, she did not take both guys at the same time.

An Awesome Read!

I loved reading Between Brothers: An Erotica Novel, all about Marisa who is in her late twenties and has been married for a long time, but every time her marriage hits a snag her husband John decides they need a six month break away from each other. So she moves out she dates for the next few months then they get back together and try and make the marriage work! It's a vicious cycle, but neither is ready to give up! However this time around, things have changed, Marisa has started talking with a good friend named Darren, and telling him all about the lousy men she keeps hooking up with who remind her of her husband John. They start to have Frank conversations, and he tells her she must ask for what she wants, and to not go with the flow if it's bad! She tries his advice, but guys just don't want to hear they are doing it wrong, or that they are hurting you, when they feel great and it's always worked, and nobody ever complained, they get annoyed and indignant. Finally she ask's Darren to help her, so they become friends with benefits, and it's amazing! They don't have an exclusive relationship, so she can still go out and try and find the right guy! So on that note she starts seeing Eric, Darren's brother and it's extremely hot between the sheets! Read this hot steamy story that will make you extremely wet! And find out what happens to Marisa in the end! I was unable to put this book down, hope you enjoy it!

A fascinating erotic novel of a woman who come to a point in her life where she is beginning to think that finding a romantic partner who is committed to her as a person, to her happiness and pleasure, is essentially just not going to happen. Long-time friend and confidant Darren is a man to whom she has been able to give her trust and with whom she can share any and all her frustrations. When it comes to good sex, Darren is the kind of friend that is willing to prove to her that there is at least one man who can think about his partner's pleasure before his own, and Darren and Marissa begin a "friends with benefits" kind of affair. Not long after, Darren's brother bumps into Marissa, quite literally, when she is surfacing the "morning after" one of the nights she has spent with Darren. The sparks fly between them and before long, Marissa is also having a "friends with benefits" affair with Darren's brother. This is a very erotic novel but it does not have the feel of a gratuitous piece of writing. Rather is has the sense of a journal Marissa is writing to chronicle her journey of discovery, aided by Darren and his brother. There is a happy ending, but I think it will be a surprise to most readers.

Marissa, is trying to take charge of her sexuality after a broken relationship. Her friend Darren offers to help her out but keep it as a casual relationship, with both of them being free to see other people. Marissa starts trying out her new-found sexual confidence with Darren's brother Eric, and thhinks it might be too close for Darren's comfort, so they agree to keep it a secret.

My first from this author and it made me want to buy her backlist. The sex scenes were hot, and I liked the sexual-awakening plot of the book, without necessarily leading to romance, or making the heroine seem tramp-y. I also quite enjoyed that there's not HEA but a HFN.

Between Brothers by Lauren Gallagher

This was a good story about the sexual empowering of Marisa. There was no romance per se and no Happily Ever After couple/s involved. The Happily Ever After was all Marisa’s.

She took us through her journey of her worst experiences to her best experiences and ultimately decided, rightfully so, that she didn’t have to put up with bad when there was great to be had. And great she had… I’ll say!!! The thought that went through my mind was a comment Darren made at the beginning of this story, “I don't know how it applies to men, but I can tell a hell of a lot about a woman by the way she kisses." Hmmm…

Ok I'm finally done with Between Brothers by Lauren Gallagher . I liked it but for some reason I had a hard time finishing this book, it was missing something. I wasn't hooked on it. I mean the sex was good but I don't know there was just something missing. And NO it wasn't the romance this book was about straight up fucking between friends, and Im totally ok with that there doesn't always have to romance in the mix. BUT (shrug)!!!!!!!

Lauren hits on situations and emotions perfectly. I find myself relating to the heroine, her thoughts, emotions, and reactions mirroring what I would feel in feal life. A great erotica writer in my opinion. Its not just about the steamy sex scenes. There's real substance in between, which is rare in this genre. The seex scenes are drescribed in a more realistic manner. These books will definately be getting a reread!

I love LA Witt's stories. She is one of my favorites. It is with a sad and heavy heart that I Did Not Finish this story.

Nothing touched me. I hated the heroine and her inability to take commend of her own sex life. Dwight was a jerk. But the worst thing of all, it was boring.

If you have never read this authors work, please try her other works. She is a great story teller. This is just a very early work of hers. She is a hell of a lot better than this.

Considering the sexual highjinxs these main characters get into you would have thought this book would be better. I missed intimacy though. I wish Gallagher could have either went further with character development and gave us a hot romance or dialed back and just gave us porn. The in between was uncomfortable.

If you like to read all about sexual relationships then this is the book for you. I was hoping there would be some kind of love story along with this but there wasn't. I had a hard time finishing this book. Sure who doesn't like to read about mind blowing sex but when that's all it is i got bored. If that's what you're looking for this is the book for you but it just wasn't for me.

Holy Hell! Get ready for some seriously steamy encounters. I enjoyed reading the book, however, it left me wondering how this really happens in real life. These people seemed to be sex starved maniacs that just couldn't get enough.
