Becoming a Demons cheerleader was the last thing Harper Madison expected when she moved to the small town of Peachville. Now that she's an official member of the squad, her training can begin. Only, this is no normal group of cheerleaders. Harper isn't there to learn dances and cheers. She became a cheerleader in order to finally learn how to control the magic inside.
The Peachville Demons cheerleading squad is really a training ground for a powerful coven of witches called the Order of Shadows. The training opens up a new world for Harper. It's a world of beauty and magic beyond her wildest dreams, but also a world of pressure and impossible expectations.
A world where every secret hides an even darker secret.
I greatly enjoyed Inner Demons - the second book from the Shadow Demons series. To see my review of the first book - Beautiful Demons - please click HERE. My sister seems to have a good taste in books - I am very glad I started the Tea's Wishlist Challenge.
Inner Demons continues right where Beautiful Demons end. Harper has been chosen to join the cheerleading team, which means instant popularity and people noticing here. But that’s not all - when you are a member of the cheerleading squad, you not only learn routines, dances and cheers. You also learn how to do magic!
The cheerleading team is the training squad for the magic learners that belong to the group of witches who are called the Order of Shadows. All these witches are powerful, and Harper has a special place in this team.
We get to see Harper discover a whole new world - a world that she didn’t really ask for. We are following her adventure in discovering how powerful she can be, but also how much pressure this role brings. Harper is awesome, by the way! And sometimes stupid.
The battle between the What-Is-Expected-Of-Me and Who-I-Really-Am is constantly there, and even though Harper is initially a brave girl - sometimes she loses herself into this whole new world. She is such a real character, because she is brave and wants justice, she wants to find out all the secrets, but then she becomes a coward for little things and the next thing we know - she goes into a very dangerous adventure.
I loved all the characters, especially Harper and Jackson ( I am #TeamJackson). In this book, you will also get to know Jackson better and find out a little bit about his spooky past. The flow of the story is so well written and even though it didn’t have major plot twists like the first book - it managed to answer a lot of questions I had, while still managing to bring up even more unanswered questions.
In this book Harper will witness a ceremony of her friend that will change the track of the whole book. When she realises that there are so many secrets that everyone is hiding from her - she will decide it’s time for her to seek them herself.
A lovely paranormal fantasy - filled in with a lot of magic, a wonderful plot behind it, and a fearless female character, I would definitely recommend this book and series. And don’t thank me - thank my sister!
So i loved this one more than the first one. I feel like this is a great storyline. Not too much drama but just enough drama. Great job keeping us questioning what is going on. So many questions…..
This series just keeps getting better and better. Some of my questions from book 1 were answered...but now has raised some new questions. The magic in this book is so fun and reminds me of Charmed, which I always enjoyed watching. The cheerleading aspect of the story is still really great and works well.
Brooke, Lark and Allison are all great characters. I can't wait to learn more about them and their pasts. I won't talk about Drake and his arrogant ego. All I can say is Harper better set his ass straight in the next book. Shadowford is an interesting home for Harper but I think I'd be creeped out living there.
Harper is still a wonderful female lead. Embracing her powers and using them to help others, eventhough it exhausts her after each time. I admire her will and bravery...to face the unknown. I love how she sticks up for Jackson when no one else would. But deep down she always knew he wasn't what others thought him to be. I just love their relationship slowly blossoming. Gives me the giddies.
Oh my though! The secret we learn about Jackson- I did not see that coming! I was even a little turned off...but only for a minute. I love him and can't wait to hear the story behind it and see where things go between him and Harper! *sigh*
One thing I love about this series is that the chapter titles aren't the normal 1, 2, 3 etc...they're phrases used in that chapter somewhere. And a lot of them give clues as to what's going on in those pages of the chapter. Very clever!
I just love this series and highly recommend PNR fans to pick it up and get sucked into Harper's complicated world! It's so fun!
Wow! I thought the first book was good this one just topped it. This series is fricking amazing, and it's only on book 2. In this book Harpers life seems to be amazing, but something isn't feeling right in here gut. So Harper being Harper, she questioned everything and investigated everything. So of course more things are revealed, which just sinks you further into the story. Let's just say I'm in training for my job, but most of the day I was involved in the book.
Book two in The Shadow Demons Saga by Sarra Cannon. Again, this was a short, easy read that intrigued me but was more a time filler than something I desperately loved. I found the first book slightly better due to the mystery and intrigue, and I feel Harper's underdog position was more interesting than being popular and advantaged. Still, I will continue on with this series for its easy way to spend time on my Kindle.
Wow! "Inner Demons" is another great addition to the Peachville High Demons series. How much did I like this second book? Well, let me tell you I gobbled down the first and second book in a matter of hours and now I am off to read the third book in the series.
In this installment, Harper Madison has it all. She is a member of the cheerleading squad and she is dating the rich, handsome quarterback, Drake Ashworth. So, what is the problem? Harper feels as if something is wrong and she cannot quite put her finger on it. Additionally, one of her cheerleading friends, Brooke is turning 18, the age that the final initiation into the witch order takes place. No one will tell Harper what to expect; but, the dread and fear on Brooke's face lets her know that it will not be anything pleasant. Harper learns to make herself invisible so that she can spy on the initiation. What she discovers will rock her world and leave her with only one decision: to find out the truth no matter what the cost.
I literally devour this book. I was so hooked that by the time I glanced down at my Kindle to find out how much of the book I had read, I was already at 79%. I really would like to slow down and savor every word; but, it just simply impossible. The plot is so engrossing that before you know it you are racing to find out what will happen next. I must admit that I am a little surprised because there really is little to no humor in this book and that is usually as aspect of a story I find to be a must. However, the lack of humor did not stop me at all from thoroughly enjoying this read. Sarra Cannon could make a mint on this series by publishing it in paperback and selling it as a boxed set. I would buy it again in a heartbeat so that my students could read it. Oh well, maybe the publisher will see the error of their ways.
A fun second installment in the series with plenty twists and turns, and more revelations about the magic and world Harper is in, and some of them scared me a bit. The fast pacing kept me engaged the whole way through, mixed with dark and the dramatic, as well as some fun humor. I love the character growth of Harper, willing to do what it takes to figure out what's going on here. The other characters were fleshed out as well. I think I might be hooked on this series. 9/10
This is a strong follow on from book 1. It wasn't till about a third of the way in that it started to develop further with development on Brooke's character whilst the relationship with Lark maintains a certain level of camerarderie. More information regarding Peachville and it's inhabitants is revealed and the story ends with a suitable level of anticipation for the next book.
Having a great time reading Harper's story and i am a certainly a fan of paranormal series. Jackson's mystery is intriguing! Can't wait to read book 3!
I’m sticking with my original 4.5 but giving the 5th star because I loved the reread and I think knowing how much world building got done in the thick of all the action I’m giving it a bump.
There is a whole lot more going on in this one. We learn so much about their world without any info dumps. Harper’s conflict is evident through the whole story but even more so in this one. She finally is a part of something but it feels all wrong. She’s got the prize of the school (even if he is a douche), popular friends and possible answers to questions that she has wanted her whole life. If only life worked like that…haha None of it feels right and she knows that something isn't quite right. I loved how Lark has become a real friend to her and I loved Courtney finally opening up. Jackson’s story is coming front and center and there are plenty of surprises.
Moving right along with the series and I’m really excited for the next book since it hit my favorites shelf first time around!
Harper was an okay character again, but sometimes she could be a bit stupid. She was told that something was dangerous, but went ahead and done it anyway. As the story continued, she done it more, but on a bigger level.
The pacing was quite slow, so i felt bored in some parts. Due to that, it felt longer than what it was.
Overall, an okay sequel, but not as good as book one.
Adding a review for this as I've rated it without a review.
I remember reading this as one of the first fantasy YA novels. If I reread this I am not convinced I'd be as in love with it as I was when I read this in 2014. A lot of things have happened since. 2014 Was a very hard year for myself so all the reviews are showing up on the same date. I can't explain why they are, if the ratings are justice or accurate I can also not say when I truly read these. I'm just going to say 2014 on the same day added just to keep the year right if not the month...
This is the second book in the Shadow Demons series. A YA Paranormal, Urban fantasy... with a bit of romance... because why not? ☺️
If you are looking for an easy, entertaining read with witches, demons and highschool vibes...this is it! Full of action, twists and turns...it is a fast page-turner.
I can see myself reading the full series 😍 For some reason, I find it very relaxing... like watching a nice TV series... Which perfectly fits my mood at the moment!
Once again, I'm not sure wat to rate this. Maybe 2.5 stars? Idk. I did think this one was better than the first, so that's a good sign. It's still pretty cheesy, and while the plot is interesting enough, the characters lack depth. But I've got a feeling that might change later on in the series. Here's to hoping, because no way can I get behind any romance otherwise lol.
This was a hugeeeee improvement compared to the first book. The plot was a bit more relevant, tons of questions were answered, and the writing improved significantly!! I'm definitely reading the next book and if this improvement continues, maybe I'll read the rest of the series as well!
I'm really enjoying this series - the world-building is so impressive, especially with the great characterization and storytelling going on in the midst of it. And now book three . . .
I've read the first book in this series many years ago, and all I can remember is that I've enjoyed it. This book was a quick read that I finished in one afternoon. Sadly, I won't be reading the rest of the series.
Today's review is on The Peachville High Demons series by Sarra Cannon
Since I really couldn't find anything but good things about each book in Cannon's Peachville High Demons series, I simple read each of the four installments currently available, and decided that I would simply provide my review and opinion of the series as a whole. I did; however, provide a review of the first book, Beautiful Demons already.
Each book follows the life of Harper Madison, a orphan who has been in numerous foster homes until she finally ends up at Shadowford Home for girls. This is her last chance. If she messes up there she will be placed in juvenile hall. But trouble seems to follow Harper like a black cloud. Suddenly a local cheerleader is found dead, seemingly burned from the inside out. Everything begins to change for Harper after that. Love, and popularity begin to fill her life as she joins the cheerleading squad and begins dating the star quaterback, but she finds she is drawn to Jackson, the boy with the amazing green eyes.
In the second book; Inner Demons, Harper finds that she is a witch, and not just any witch. Harper is the Prima Futura of the Order of the Shadows coven. But somehow she cannot seem to remember her life before being on the cheer squad, and no matter how much she asks about it, she finds no answers. The only person who seems to know the truth is Jackson and once he reveals it to her, everything changes. Once Harper finds out the the coven forces Demons from the shadow world to join with them, Demons like Jackson, Harper realizes she has to do something to stop it, but how?
In book three; Bitter Demons, Harper is still in the hospital after saving Jackson from the Others. Once released, they spend as much time together as they can until another coven arrives. One of the other covens witches, Zara, begins training Harper which dampens on the time she can be with him, but she learns so much about herself and her powers. Using her powers, she and another witch switch places and live the life of the other for just a few hours until trouble pops up again.
In book four Harper learns all the dirty secrets of the Order. She learns the truth about how and who killed her mother after finding her mothers journal. She also learns how corrupt the High Council actually is and what they are capable of doing to those who choose to stand up to them. Even with that knowledge she still fights for what's right, even though it may cost her her life. But she won't show fear. Her one saving grace is that the man she loves will be safe. Jackson will continue the fight against the Order with his friends.
Each book in this series was full of surprises. Twists, turns, suspense, you name it. I couldn't put them down, I couldn't get enough! Each character grows as each book progresses. And though there are continued attacks on Harper, each one is completely different and exciting. The way that Cannon brings in the background of each main character makes it all the more interesting to read. You never know the whole truth until Cannon wants you to.
4.5 Stars This is the second novella in the Peachville High Demon series and, I must say, I found it just as engrossing and enchanting as the first book,Beautiful Demons. Told from the perspective of the young recruit, Harper Madison, the dialogues are deftly handled. The uncertainty and angst of the sixteen-year-old protagonist, Harper, resonates throughout. However, through it all, Harper struggles to make the right choices and to discover who she is and what she truly wants to become. She is stubborn, loyal and likable, with a deep, abiding passion for unraveling the mystery inherent in Peachville. There are dark entities apparently existing in a symbiotic relationship with the prominent citizens of the small, exclusive community, and Harper becomes the prize in a long-standing conflict between two factions.
I wholeheartedly recommend this series to mature readers as well teens. The pacing is fast; I was never allowed to become bored or to let my attention wander. The author is adept at creating situations and encounters that surprise and bemuse. As Harper’s world view changes, and she becomes caught up in events she never expected, we are given front-row seats, and also the opportunity to watch her blossom. I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
It seems like I am devouring this series. I finished the second book in about a day and a half, same as the first! These books just keep surprising me. I think I know what will happen and then it doesn’t happen. That’s a key factor to a great book. Another thing I love about these books is the chapter titles. I know that’s a pretty random thing to comment on. But, if you’ve read the books you probably know why. It always keeps me wondering.
I really liked Harper in the first book and have only continued to like her in the second. She is such a strong and unselfish female character. It’s nice to see a strong character who is willing to help everyone. I also kind of started to like the cheerleaders in this book too. I know, crazy right! I wasn’t expecting to. And witches! I never guessed these books were about witches! I love me a good magical story!
Again with this one Harper is still working on a relationship with Drake. Which also makes her a stronger person. I really liked the homecoming parts of the book. I think every girl deserves a night like that. I guess I just really like how she went about that whole part. I am very happy with the ending and I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3!
