Eugene Lambert is a refugee from the world of science and engineering, and a graduate from Bath Spa University's MA in Writing For Young People. When not scribbling away in his cabin, he flies gliders and goes for long walks. The rumours of him suffering from a severe work allergy and being an identical twin are both true...

Eugene's debut SF thriller, The Sign of One, was shortlisted for the AM Heath’s Irish Children’s Prize 2013 and the Bath Novel Award 2014. It is published by Egmont UK, on their Electric Monkey imprint. He is represented by the irrepressible Ben Illis (the-bia.com)

I've just sent in the first draft and should be hearing back from my editor, Stella Paskins at Egmont, soon. Exciting!(less)

When I'm stuck I just keep battering away at the problem until I get through it. This can be fairly miserable (understatement), but I feel the ongoing struggle forces my subconscious to keep working away in the background and come up with the answer in the end. This 'technique' has worked on several grim occasions, which gives me the confidence to use it the next time. Incidentally, my main 'blocks' always are to do with plot points, e.g. making sure a character would be motivated to act as I want them to. Many the hour I have spent staring wretchedly into space, surrounded by dozens of crumpled-up pieces of paper ... :-) (less)

SF - What's In A Name?

descriptionTo mark the publication of Into The No Zone , the second book in my The Sign Of One trilogy, Egmont asked me to do a blog. I chose to write about Science Fiction, where the genre name came from, and why it might not be best genre name ever.

Was recommended this by a good friend, as one of her favourite books from childhood. And it is an absolute gem, well worthy of being described as a 'classic of its kind.' An unhappy boy, for reasons I won't spoil, finds that he has morphed into a cat ...more

Georgette Heyer was (apparently) better known for Regency romances, but also wrote several (12) Golden Age detective novels. This, Envious Casca, was suggested by Google as one of her best. And it is, as expected from such a famous author, very well ...more

Stumbled across a hardback edition, and enjoyed it thoroughly. It's full of Spike Milligan's trademark madcap humour, as he finds himself conscripted into a Heavy Artillery battery at the start of World War Two. His stories of life in the British Arm ...more

I actually think this is quite an important book, as it offers a disturbing fictional window inside some of the mega tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook or X, as they try and take over the world via social media. So my three stars feels a ...more
Eugene and 36 other people liked Tracey's review of Miss Pym Disposes:
Miss Pym Disposes by Josephine Tey
"By this point in my reread of Josephine Tey it's more than clear that she did not write ordinary books. The cover blurb clearly gives out that Disposes is a murder mystery, but the story is in no rush to do anyone in. And that is brilliant, and cruel" Read more of this review »
Miss Pym Disposes by Josephine Tey
"Having seen Josephine Tey recommended as one of the generation of golden age crime writers that often goes underread and is not given the credit she deserves, I was keen to read some of her work after several enjoyable experiences with Agatha Christi" Read more of this review »
