Jessie Mattis is an award-winning author, Jesus-loving wife, and homeschooling mom of three teenagers. She crafts twentieth-century fiction inspired by family history, hoping to breathe new life into unique bits of America’s past. Jessie’s Middlefork Series hits shelves in July 2026 with the release of A MESS OF DREAMS, the first of her four-book historical romance series.

Road trips, laughter, and space heaters are some of her favorite things, and any day she doesn’t have to put on shoes is a good day. Jessie lives in Indiana with her incredible family and Guster the labradoodle, who naps in the most inconvenient places.

Yes, sometimes after a good writing session where I'm deep in the characters' heads and immersed in a different time period, it can be a challenge to pop back into real life. There are so many things I love about bygone eras that make mentally jumping back into today feel sort of harsh and abrupt. Not to mention, nobody can really grasp the weird in-between feeling of spending so much time with fictional characters you've grown to love, then leaving them all behind on the laptop as you dive back into real life. I have to be deliberate to be present and not let the story keep lingering in my thoughts outside of my writing time.(less)

It may sound a little crazy, but it's a beautiful, fun process! :)(less)
