This list has issues because it is a manipulation of statistics. For example, Kate Egan is on it. She has done several knock-offs of other authors' works, such as the listed The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: The Movie Storybook. Notably, the author of the actual book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis would not fit the perimeters of the list, even though he has almost 9 million people who have reviewed his work--and it is original work.

I get it that people like picture books more than they like to read (as is evidenced by most of the books on this list being manga/graphic novels/ "companion" guides/etc). However, if you read the six 5-star reviews that Egan's movie guide has by people who actually have written reviews instead of just rating it, you will find most of them are reviewing the C.S. Lewis version of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe--not the picture book version by Kate Egan (i.e., how could an adult go back and "reread" the movie book version she had read "as a child," when the movie book came out only two years before her review? Some flat out say this isn't the version they actually read.) Since only six people left written reviews and most of these are not for Ms. Egan's version, one can assume most of the "ratings" without reviews are also ratings for the wrong book. But these authors, like Egan, are making money off of someone else's good book by getting rave reviews for something they did not originally write. They don't deserve any recognition in my book.

Um. The statistic is the point of this list. And it is to expose what is actually here and to poke at the meaning.

First of all I've heard it often declared that a series average rating rises as all but the true believers stop reading them. But that's clearly not the whole story.

On this list you have the super popular one book by an author - Know My Name, Just Mercy, Born a Crime, The Help, Braiding Sweetgrass, I'm Glad My Mom Died, Becoming, Educated. Presumably these author's might write a number of more books that are not as popular that will bring their average rating down if only they get enough reviewers.

You've got well thought of racism related books - The New Jim Crow, So You Want to Talk About Race, Caste

You have the fandom adjacent books - I'm not sure if that explains John Williams fully - but Jane Johnson and Kate Egan and Gary Russell for sure.

And then there's Steve the Noob - which I guess counts as fandom directly - but those books are such an outlier.

As a person with 6016 reviews which consists of 225 manga and 1184 picture-book (but also 952 nonfiction and 106 classic), I might take offense I suppose. But these are all books. And at the very least items in goodread's inventory. And drawing conclusions from the data is interesting.

I wouldn't read too much into the proportions of manga/non-fiction/other on this list - when I add a bunch of authors it's usually because I stumbled on one who qualifies and then browsed the "readers also enjoyed" section to possibly find some more. So if any one genre is under represented it might just be that none of us happened to stumble on any of the books that would have helped us find a bunch of qualifying authors in that genre...
