Nicholas Atwater writes swashbuckling steampunk fantasy. He resides in Montreal, Quebec with his incredible, brilliant wife and two cats. As an ex-thespian, he certainly does not practice funny accents in the shower, and no one can prove otherwise. He is a veteran Dungeons & Dragons gamemaster, famously feared for both his villains and his puns.

"THE THREE MUSKETEERS meets GUNDAM in this swashbuckling clockpunk mecha adventure!"

As many friends know, I do enjoy a good swashbuckling tale and tone. Lesser known is my deep, childhood adoration for giant robots (especially Gundam). And so when I

It is queer normative setting, and has LGBTQ+ representation. Our dear captain is also ace.

I would sooner, however, let members of the community decide if this a LGBTQ+ story.

“Sometimes, contempt for the person you don't want to become can get you through those times when courage otherwise falters.”
Nicholas Atwater, Echoes of the Imperium

“I—” I paused, still trying to parse his meaning. Slowly, I knitted my brow. “I have no intention of involving myself in Miss Hawkins’ affairs any further than I already have,” I said adamantly.
Evie sighed long-sufferingly. “Wil,” he said patiently, “I have known you for over twenty years. You are patently incapable of uninvolving yourself.”
Nicholas Atwater, Echoes of the Imperium

“Do not do this out of guilt. Do it because this is the future you want. Because you deserve the right to determine what happens from here.”
Nicholas Atwater, Echoes of the Imperium

“The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist; a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain.”
Ursula K. LeGuin, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas
