2026 Word of the Year: Delight

Last year’s word was “abide,” and boy, did this season require obedience, tolerance, clinging to a few lasting treasures we’ve collected, and dwelling in Christ, no matter what our address.

Brandon and I came to similar words at the same time, so we’re going with what we heard—joy and delight. Please subscribe to my Substack, Palace in Time, for a few words about these

On the heels of my own week of a spiritual retreat, this book was like walking with a kindred spirit. It made me long to return to a space of solitude, on retreat. An honest and observant book, written elegantly.
Sarah M. Wells and 1 other person liked LeeAnn's review of Solito:
Solito by Javier Zamora
"Because this was a memoir no stars attached.
It was read by the author mostly in English, but enough Spanish that there were entire conversations I was just listening to and not fully comprehending.
It is well written and very very detailed. I liked " Read more of this review »
Sarah M. Wells and 3 other people liked Jamie's review of The Correspondent:
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
"There’s something about a book that stirs the soul and makes you feel something. Though I’m not even sure what exactly that is. Empathy? Encouragement? Aspiration? I loved getting a glimpse into this character’s life via her letters and how it opened" Read more of this review »

Donald Miller
“We live in a world where bad stories are told, stories that teach us life doesn't mean anything and that humanity has no great purpose. It's a good calling, then, to speak a better story. How brightly a better story shines. How easily the world looks to it in wonder. How grateful we are to hear these stories, and how happy it makes us to repeat them.”
Donald Miller, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned While Editing My Life

Beverly Donofrio
“One day can change your life. One day can ruin your life. All life is is three or four big days that change everything.”
Beverly Donofrio

John Milton
“The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..”
John Milton, Paradise Lost

Ken Robinson
“Human resources are like natural resources; they're often buried deep. You have to go looking for them, they're not just lying around on the surface. You have to create the circumstances where they show themselves.”
Ken Robinson

Robert Frost
“No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.”
Robert Frost
