Washington DC, successfully raising money for Toys for Tots. She learned she is stronger than she realized and capable of anything she sets her mind to.

“Her pragmatism, however, came in second place to her optimism. 'Life has a way of turning out the right way. I always say that everything turns out okay in the end. If it isn’t okay, it isn’t the end.”
Teri M. Brown, Sunflowers Beneath the Snow

“I’ve had to learn to be content with what the Good Lord has blessed me with and not spend my time wishing I got something else instead.”
Teri M. Brown, Daughters of Green Mountain Gap

“didn’t understand that someone, like my mama, could hate another person simply because of the color of their skin or who their god was or even what kind of home they lived in. I believed what the Bible tells us about lovin’ one another, and jus’ figured everyone else did, too.”
Teri M. Brown, Daughters of Green Mountain Gap

“At the young, delicate age of 14, just two years older than her own Ionna was now, Yevt became an adult and swore to Party allegiance. It was the first of many such lies over the years to come.”
