We are coming down just for one day from Wausau to see TSO in December. I dont need any more yarn, but wondering where the yarn shops are down there and which is your favorite.

L (suddenexpression) Hi all! I'm from Rochester, Ny. I'm a military wife so we are currently living in Kansas. Oh the joys... Our last post was Germany. It took a long time to find the right fiber world in Germany but I sure do miss driving an hour to the Wollmeise store!

Laura, sounds as though you get around! I've known many military families that spent time in both Germany and Kansas, but alas, no knitters. I'm sure Ravelry can tell you the closest yarn store!
Therese, Texas is a BIG place - does it get chilly enough to justify knitting where you are? I know the northern parts of TX get snow sometimes, so that can justify a hat or pair of socks, certainly!

message 55: by Amber (new)

Amber (princess1976) | 8 comments Stacey, I'm about an hour and a half north of you!! I heard Wisconsin Craft Market in Madison just got all kinds of new yarns. I'm looking forward to checking it out!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 153 comments You could also try Knitmap. http://www.knitmap.com/

message 59: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesmy777) I'm currently in an itty bitty place in California near the Tahoe National Forest call Calpine.

I'm an Army brat, so I've lived all over. I call Columbus, Ohio home in some cases - lived there for 18 years! I also call Wilmington, NC home - that's where the parents live and where I was born. I lived in Boulder, CO until last November. I spent about 6 years and it was nice, a great knitting community, but a little tough if you don't have a big paycheck. I've also lived in Alaska, Hawaii, Oklahoma, Florida, and I think there might be one or two I'm forgetting about!

message 66: by Maggie61 (new)

Maggie61 I am from Kitchener Ontario in Canada.About an hour from Toronto. It's already pretty cold here, I say already since I am really okay only with snow and cold at Christmas. However I do have a lot of use for knitted things here! I've knit everything from socks to blankets to clothes to accessories. I have even mastered knitting and reading, my two addictions.

message 67: by Christy (new)

Christy | 4 comments Hello, all! I'm living in Southwest Virginia - think mountains and four full seasons. It's gorgeous, but sometimes it feels odd to live in the right-hand side of the Appalachians. I'm a West Virginian who gets more homesick for Seattle than the land of my birth. But no matter where I'm at, with knitting and reading, I'll do just fine. I like the idea of audiobooks but find the reader's voice can decide if I like the book as much as the book itself. So, I bought one of those pageweights to keep the book flat while I knit & read.

message 68: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Hey everybody I'm from Pelion, South Carolina. But i have always wanted to live in the mountains since i was little. My husband said i was an old soul.
I have always loved reading i use to read all the time but now i have Started with audio books because i haven't mastered reading and knitting at the same time yet lol. I'm actually new to the knitting world after learning how to crochet when i was 10 from my granny. Started knitting about 4 months ago fell in love and now i buy more yarn than i have projects lol.

Amanda, don't be so apologetic! Some of us never learn to knit and read hard copy at the same time!

Dillwynia Peter | 3 comments One of the latest to join up.

I live in a place that would be in a lot of people's Bucket Lists - Alice Springs, right in the centre of Australia. It takes about 4-5 hrs drive to get to Ayers Rock (Uluru) and of course literally minutes to be in the desert country.
Yes, it is hot here, but also we have below freezing winter nights. At the moment, we are definitely in the land of Hot.

I grew up in Wollongong, south of Sydney & have lived all over Australia as a result of my job: Townsville, opposite the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney, Melbourne & Perth. I am a botanist & run the plant museum (herbarium) in Alice. I read & knit every day of the year.
My Rav name is Dillwynia & I love knitting garments, but am about to complete my 1st pair of socks.

Wow! What a group we have here. Madison, WI and the Philly area are some of my favorite places to visit, and Alice Springs and the. United Arab.Emirates..... Wow. So nice to know that places we Yankees think of as really hot still have knitters!

And as a gardener, if I am ever in Alice Springs. I will definitely visit the herbarium!

Well. Kandi, now I know why your next project is a fingering weight sweater! Judging by where everyone is from, you are the only one now absolutely freezing this winter!
Although Washington state may be mild, I'm guessing Ottawa is not, and as for everyone else...I'm in northern VA and it hasn't been above freezing for a week and ahalf here....which is VERY unusual below the Mason-Dixon Line!

Yikes! I've heard about the bad weather in the Midwest and Eastern US and I'm glad we haven't had it too bad here in Washington. I guess it's nice to be able to pull out all your hand Knits and use them? Brrrrr.

I feel guilty when I tell people from all over the country (and world) where I live because I know so many of you are affected by this seriously cold weather pattern. Here in SOCal, we're in the middle of a drought but our weather has been so nice ... I wish I could send some of it to you! In fact, I'll trade water (lol!)...

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

Today is cloudy at my home in WA state, on my coastal island. The temperature at 38 degrees is a bit cooler than normal but what's normal these days?!

Yesterday I was in the city and it was a balmy 50 degrees. Everyone was out on the streets, even dining outside in protected sunny courtyards (bundled up a bit lol). What a gorgeous day it was, completed by a beautiful sunset over the Olympic Mts. and a tranquil ferry ride home. I had my knitting with me for all the riding in the car, although I fell asleep on the ferry I was so tired!

I'm in eastern Washington, which is usually the sunnier side of the state and we've had weeks of dreary weather. Fog, cold, clouds, and no sun! I think this is more Seattle conditions. You're lucky for the sun and mild temps.

It's 11 degrees here today...very cold for the DC area, but I just have to laugh, because I know we have canadian members who think we're terribly wimpy...and we are!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 153 comments We got 1/2 an inch of snow, which resulted in letting the kids out of school early yesterday, and school being cancelled today. And the grocery stores being cleaned out of bread and milk, of course. (My mother grew up in NJ, and lived in Iowa for six years, and finds the Southern response to even the smallest amounts of snow hilarious.)

There's also been a state of emergency declared, but I think that has more to do with a nasty ice storm that developed down on the coast than anything here.

I'm guessing you might be somewhere in the Puget Sound.

I adore this part of the world & so would love to live there. Maybe, if I win some kind of super lottery, I might be able to afford to buy a house & live tranquilly, but very happily. Of course, some of that money needs to fund my yarn habit (visiting Portland, OR twice a year for yarn forays). :-D

Danielle | 2 comments Hello! I'm Danielle and from Melbourne Australia. With our heat waves and bush fires there's been a lot more reading than knitting lately. Oh and spinning. Isn't spinning great in the hot weather. You still get to enjoy all the pretty colors and the feel of the fibre without sweaty hands :)

Laurene | 4 comments Hi, I'm from a small town in the Black Hills in South Dakota. Spearfish is about 15 miles from Deadwood and 40 miles from Mount Rushmore.
I've lived in SD all my life except for a short stint in Denver which we hated! I work at an elementary school and I have taught several students to knit. It's A great way to pass the time when it's too cold to go out for recess. I love knitting socks too but we are yarn deprived in our area. A good yarn shop is several hundred miles away so it's the internet but it's not the same if you can feel!

We are yarn deprived here in south eastern Washington, too! I love knitpicks and have had good luck with their yarns. Which online yarn stores do you use?
