A child of two cultures, this kānaka maoli girl is currently living among the tulips and windmills of the Netherlands. She now fills her days with family and fiction under rainy Dutch skies. With a house full of lovable kids, a three-legged cat, and one handsome Dutchman, she prowls the keyboard late at night while the minions sleep. Coffee? Nah, she prefers tea with a generous spoonful of sarcasm.

I've got a house full of kids, a ridiculously loud refrigerator, and a cat that insists on attention the moment I sit at the computer. My husband knows to keep it down when I'm trying to write. The man has keen survival instincts.
In my opinion, writer's block is something that can only be resolved by more writing. Inspiration doesn't always (ever?) come on demand. Expect pain because it's a matter of sitting down and pulling the story out one word at a time. Pile enough of them together, and hey, you've got a first draft you can pound into shape.(less)

“We aren't defined only by our failures and sorrows. I'm starting to believe we're an assortment. A few big events, but countless smaller details. Little joys that carry us through the days, even when those days are bad.”
Anela Deen, Beneath Cruel Fathoms

“I feel like myself again when I'm with you. When we're together, I don't feel broken.”
Anela Deen, Beneath Cruel Fathoms

“Don't thank me yet. Your human looks decidedly stale. Have you given her any water?"

He frowned. "Why would I do that when there's water all around?"

"She can't ingest seawater, crustacean-head. Don't you know anything about landwellers?”
Anela Deen, Beneath Cruel Fathoms
