I have a sequel to the Scavenger out next year (if things stay on schedule) also recording audiobook versions of some of my older work, and working on another book project I hope to announce soon. And always writing columns and essays and songs and whatnot.(less)

Roundabout Antlers and a Fisher Sighting

Went out looking for sheds. Turned on my tracker. Walked 2.56 miles. Through hill and dale. Mud and burdock. Green dot is where I started. Red dot where I ended. Blue dot where I found the shed. Literally within view of the swing set.

But did get real close to a big ol’ fisher:

“Summer here comes on like a zaftig hippie chick, jazzed on chlorophyll and flinging fistfuls of butterflies to the sun.”
Michael Perry, Population: 485

“I deserve a swift kick in the shorts for all the times I've stubbornly wound my way through the library stacks, my mule head leading the way, searching fruitlessly for information a librarian could put in my hands in a matter of minutes.”
Michael Perry

“It (a singer's voice) sounds as if it was aged in a whiskey cask, cured in an Ozarks smokehouse, dropped down a stone well, pulled out damp, and kept moist in the palm of a wicked woman's hand.”

Pat Padden Just finished The Jesus Cow, Michael, and I wanted to tell you how much I liked it. I think a lot of Harley's reticence and unwillingness to stand up for himself sometimes when he should is something that will resonate with a lot of people. It was a fun read because it was a gentle joshing about being steamrolled by life and love and politicians, but not an all-out rant. Too much of that going on every day. Thanks for the book!
