Susan Walter is a recovering screenwriter and film director who started writing books to kill people because it was frowned upon in real life. Her first two novels, “Good as Dead” and “Over Her Dead Body” are set in the movie business, but then she discovered there are places that are even more dangerous. She is now murdering people on airplanes, on ski hills, and in safehouses while on the run from organized crime.
A sometimes director, her Netflix movie ALL I WISH, which she also wrote, stars Sharon Stone and Tony Goldwyn and won a screenwriting award that you have never heard of, but that she is proud of nonetheless. Her latest novel, "Letters from Strangers," is based on the real-life mystery that riddled her own childhood. You can lear

Because there is a mystery from my past I want to write about, but it is VERY scary for me ... not sure how much to reveal, and how much to fictionalize. I originally thought about making it a memoir, but decided against it. Am working through the outline now. Writing it could be very healing ... or very painful. It won't be my next book, probably two or three books down the road, if I write it.(less)

Covid and my new book

The 2020-2021 school year was hard. I was living in Canada with my two daughters while my husband was living and working in the States. Schools in LA, where we lived when the pandemic hit, had closed their doors, and there was no promise that they would reopen. But Vancouver schools were all in-person. So we packed our car and made the move.
My husband visited as often as he could, but the border w Read more of this blog post »

Murder at 30,000 Feet by Susan Walter
"Airplane disaster thrillers have elements of fear attached as real-life disasters do happen 30,000 feet up. I fly longhaul regularly and sometimes do envision myself in fictional flight predicaments. Hopefully never anything remotely like what happen" Read more of this review »

I totally geeked out on this highly technical aviation novel with one of the greatest female protagonists in the genre.

“I hate when people dismiss the loss of an object because “it’s just a thing.” Things are important. They give comfort, shelter, style, identity. The sum total of your things is a road map of your life. They show where you’ve been, what you accomplished, who you loved, who loved you back. They are an expression of who you are. You can learn a lot about a person by their things. Material things are not what’s most important in life, of course!”
Susan Walter, Good as Dead

“No, a home is not where your heart is, it’s where your effort is. It’s where you cook and eat and sleep and take pains to decorate. It’s where your memories are made and kept. It’s the photos on the mantel, the artwork on the walls, the blankets that you snuggle under, the trees and flowers that you plant and care for.”
Susan Walter, Good as Dead

“If you can’t share your true self with someone, he once told me, you’re wasting your time.”
