Why Why why?????? Why are all the men of Fool's Gold cowards? Why? Every single book in this series! Every single hero, with the exception of Simon who was yummy, had a mangina, ran like a coward, scared to get hurt, and only at the end realizes he loved her(either because the towns people browbeat him, he almost dies, she is pregnant, or something equally over the top). Then he goes to her at almost the last page, says sorry and all is forgiven. No real begging or making it up to her just
(Hero)" I can't love anyone, love is scary!" "Oh no she loves me it's the worst thing ever. I was cool with just fuckin' her and using her for a good time, but no love, I might get my little heart broke." "I must run away from the scary woman and her evil emotions." "Damn all the towns people are shaming me and hell I kinda miss her." "Damn I think I might have been in love with her the whole time but was way too stupid to know how I really felt without everyone shaming me into make an honest woman out of her. Guess I better go back and tell her she's good enough now." "I'm sure she will be grateful to have me even though I ripped her heart out and made her feel like shit." "Good thing I wised up, I could have ended up marginally sad and kinda lonely."(Heroine) "Oh you ran from me ripped my heart out, acted like loving me was the worst thing ever, but it's cool I'm going to take you back immediately I have no pride." "I totally don't feel like second best and it was worth every minute of pain and crying and embarrassment when you looked me in the eyes and said..." I guess I love you, wanna get married?"
I am going crazy. I just want to bang my head against a wall over and over. That is what every book in this series is like besides Simon's who had a real reason to be scared and was as I stated above super yummy! If it wasn't for the fact that I have OCD and have already bought the whole series I would quit it. What disappoints me the most is that I am totally charmed at the town setting really like all the characters including the main couples (minus Ethan who I hated cause he is The Jackass King) and really enjoy the stories until it is ruined with cowardly fear of love. Of course it may not bother other readers as much as it does me. Cowards are my second biggest reading pet peeves next to cheating. I can see this is going to be a long painful road since this series is 20 books long. GOD help me!
ONLY US is the sixth book in the Fools Gold series. I am really enjoying this series and I truly loved this story more than the last one and I really loved the last one. Susan Mallery has become an auto buy author and I’m excited to read all of her previous books. This series just keeps getting better and better!
Rina has been in love with Cameron since the first day she saw him a year ago, but the love she has for his daughter is special to Rina. Cameron hires Rina to take care of Kaitlin, take her to school, watch her after school and cook nightly dinners for them. She doesn’t want to do anything to threaten their relationship, so she knows that she can’t tell Cameron that she has fallen in love with him.
She finally finds the courage one night to tell him the truth and things don’t end up exactly how she planned. Cameron is afraid. His wife walked out years ago, leaving him with a newborn baby. He is closed off and never realizes he needs any one else in his life. After Carina decides to leave when he just wants to be friends, things change so fast. Will Cam and Rina end up together in time for Christmas? You will have to read ONLY US to find out! ONLY US was a quick read for me. It is filled with friendship, love, heartbreak and beating back your fear. It is a lovely little holiday read that will warm your heart.
ONLY US is only the fifteenth book by Susan Mallery that I have read but I’m determined to finish this series this year. Susan Mallery pulls her readers right in from the very first page and never lets them go. She makes her readers really care about all of her characters that they spend late nights finishing up her books because they can’t stop. Well that’s what happened to me anyway. Once I started reading, I had a very hard time putting ONLY US down. I am so excited to continue this wonderful series of a town where there is a man shortage. It’s so hysterical when a new man shows up!
Quick fun easy ready it was novella ,no issues at all between Carina-Cameron only thing that was in middle of their HEA was Cameron's hesitation to accept Carina's love but then he realises his love for her which he used to disguise it in name of friendship then we have confessions and HEA.
Only Us is a short novella in the Fool's Gold series. It is quick and not quite as full of Christmas magic as I would have likes. Really I love when it is something specific to Christmas that makes the couple fall in love or realize they are in love or whatever. Still this was a fun read and a good way to kick off the season for me.
Carina, or Rina to her friends, has been in love with Cameron forever. Or since she met him basically. Cameron who is her boss at the vets office. She spends a lot of time with him and his daughter, she takes the daughter to school every day and hangs out with her afterwards. They are really close and she loves his daughter just as much as she loves him. When they share a kiss one day Rina decides this is it. She has to finally tell Cameron how she feels about him. She is hoping to finally have her happily ever after.
Cameron is skeptical of love. He was married before, but when his ex left him shortly after his daughter was born he was hurt. He doesn't trust that someone will stay. It is better to be just friends than risk heartache again. When Rina tells him how she feels he panics. He cannot be with her that way. They are better as friends. Why does anything have to change? This way she will always be in his life and everything will be good. Man he was not the smartest. He does some things that just had me shaking my head, but I think he was trying to be a good person. I enjoyed reading the two of them and seeing if Cameron could overcome his hesitancy to be in another relationship. Really his daughter was adorable and stole the book for me. A quick, fun, light holiday read.
With the family factor involved, the steam rating for this romance is more on the PG side. However, what the story lacks in hot sweaty scenes, it makes up for with sweet romance.
Maybe it’s the influence of the holiday season, but the tension and hope of a happy ending for Cameron and Rina had me wrapped tighter than a gift under the tree. Cameron is a loving father who deserves to fall in-love; Rina is a caring and unselfish woman who is worthy of having her love returned. What’s not to love about this little package of a romance?
Okay, maybe I was a little annoyed at how blind Cameron is to Rina’s feelings, not to mention the way he takes her friendship for granted. Every romance needs to have some sort of conflict for the couple to work past, but Rina is babysitting the daughter, cooking meals for the family, and spending nearly every day with McKenzie family. Rina does most of the duties of a mother and wife already, yet Cameron doesn’t see this? Come on!
Cameron’s reluctance to a romantic relationship was the only bad apple in my bushel, though. I didn’t even mind the corny parts with the young daughter giggling over silly jokes. The story was as warm as a fuzzy Christmas sweater for the cold chill outside. It’s not always easy being satisfied with a shortened romance, but I’m feeling quite content.
For the most part, I enjoyed this story. It was what I needed at that moment. Short, quick, cute and sweet. It was predictable, but I didn't care, as it just made it lighter/fluffier. My only issues were with the characters. Mainly Rina. That woman puts the drama in drama-queen!
Her actions whenever she was with the hero just had me scratching my head and thinking "huh?" I'm not entirely sure if that's the result of my not reading all of the other books in this super-long series or not though. Maybe there's more to these two characters story in one of the other ones. But yeah, either way I didn't like Rina at all. I also didn't like the immature kid. Cameron's daughter is 8 years old, but comes off as 3 or 4. I wish authors would just leave the kids out if they can't portray them properly. Or if the child is handicap then say so, then I won't think what a joke the whole thing is.
Overall, it was a solid short story. It was super cute, super sweet and squeaky clean. I probably would have enjoyed it more had I read the previous three books in the series, but I thought it could hold it's own as a stand-alone. I'm happy I read it though, it was able to pull me out of my reading funk thoroughly and I couldn't ask for more than that.

A Christmas shorty with no substance.
Wasn't worth the effort.

Carina Fiore is a dog groomer who has been in love with her boss, veterinarian Cameron McKenzie since her & his daughter, Kaitlyn came to Fool's Gold a year ago. Not only does she work at the Veterinary clinic, she gets Kaitlyn to school and even cooks dinner for her boss & his daughter. When she finally gets up her nerve she not only kisses Cameron under the mistletoe, she tells him she loves him. Cameron is gun shy about falling in love again as his first wife walked out on their marriage when Kaitlyn was an infant. Cameron is afraid that if he falls in love and the woman leaves him, not only will he be hurt but Kaitlyn will be devasted as well. How it all works out makes this a very lovely Fool's Gold Christmas story.
I have been waiting for this book for a long time! Last year Susan Mallery asked her FaceBook fans to help her create new characters for the Fool's Gold Series. So we created Cameron McKenzie, the new veterinarian, his daughter, Kaitlyn, their dog, Noah and Carina Fiore.
Another Fool's Gold Hit!! This Sweet Holiday Novella gives us a look intot he life of Cameron, our very handsome Vet, and his "Friend" Rina, the pet groomer.
Rina has been in love with Cameron since the first day she saw him a year ago, but the love she has for his daughter is special to Rina and she doesn't want to do anything to threaten their relationship, so she knows that she can't tell Cameron that she is in love with him. Then she gains the courage on night to tell him the truth and things don't end up exactly how she planned. Will these two end up together in time for Christmas?? I think you will have to read the book to find out!!
This was a quick read for me. The story took us on a sleigh ride of friendship, love, heartbreak and overcoming fear. It is a sweet, little Holiday read that will warm your heart. A little hit chocolate for the soul, as only Susan Mallery can do! Enjoy!!
Pet groomer Rina, wants to confess her feelings to the man she loves, Cameron McKenzie. She loves the vets good looks, caring nature and especially his devotion to his young daughter. Putting her heart on the line could cost Rina both her job and their friendship forever. Not to mention her relationship with his daughter. But when the same daughter, insists her daddy kiss Rina because she is standing under the mistletoe, its more than they both expect. You can't go wrong with a Christmas story. And this one gives everything we are looking for in a Christmas romance. 5 stars!
The Fool's Gold series has fast become one of my favorites, so I'm always eager to read more. When Cameron McKenzie appeared in Only Yours, I was curious about him, so I was pretty excited to learn that this novella would feature him.
This was a pretty short story, but I still really enjoyed it. I think I would have loved it even more if it had been a full length novel because I could certainly see the potential, but it was a great, fast read with wonderful characters.
The Fool's Gold series has quickly become a new favorite of mine when I just need one of those good well written contemporary romances so I was super excited to see this short novella featuring some of the characters that we have seen slight glimpses of in some of the other books and it was Christmas themed which is just perfect for this time of year. This novella definitely did not disappoint. It was just perfect and again shows that Mallery really knows her stuff. Well worth the read.
It was short & sweet. Grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate & read away. By the time you are done with your second cup it will be over. But a feel good Christmas read none the less. I was hoping for a little more but hey it was a feel good love story.
I didn't feel a whole heck of a lot of sexual tension here. It seemed a bit like I was just being told how much they loved each other but I didn't see it. Also, no hot sexin'.
This short story in the Fool's Gold tells a complete, albeit short, story. It is built upon the Fool's Gold setting and has brief appearances by other characters in the series, but it can really stand alone. It also can be read anywhere in the series, although it does "spoil" the obvious outcome of Only Yours, #5 in the series.
The story is cute and hard to resist. It has dogs and other pets and a really cute kid. But other than that, it really doesn't add anything to the series.
Once again, the man in the story is a supreme idiot. The common trope of resisting a relationship to avoid any chance of loss is almost the entire story and this one is a prime example of why that trope doesn't make much sense. The story is set up from the beginning with Rina so embedded in the family that loss is inevitable unless Cameron lets her in. In fact the situation has been going on so long prior to the opening of the story that it doesn't make sense the situation has lasted this long.
The story is short and the ending is sweet and original, so it's still worth the read.
Rhetorical question: what is with mothers walking out on their children which seems to be a common theme except in one story so far?
Mature themes: shocker - there is no sex described other than a couple of brief kisses.
The brevity of the story is a better deal when read as part of A Christmas Bride which includes The Sheik and the Christmas Bride.
***MINOR SPOILERS *** This novella is connected to the Fool’s Gold series. This novella tells the story of Rina and Cameron. Rina has been in love with Cameron since she met him a year ago. She is hoping that he will “see” her, but he has been emotionally scarred by the mother of his child leaving suddenly and permanently. Rina is integrated into Cameron’s life. She is a dog groomer at his vet clinic. She also takes care of his 8 year old child before and after school. They have a good relationship and are friends. Cameron is afraid of opening himself up to more. In several places, the book transitions from one sentence to the next to a different point of view or a different scene. It can take a minute to realize that. In addition, there are places where editing mistakes are made. For example, Rina is referred to as Kaitlyn (Cameron’s daughter). Simon, from another book in the series, makes an appearance. The novella is ok. The author is not able to convey much depth which you can blame on it being a novella, but I have found this to be true in her books lately. There isn’t a lot to the story. For those who like her books, this novella will suit. She tends to write in a consistent fashion.
Eine schöner, kurzer Roman für die Weihnachtszeit.
❤️ Richtig für's Herz ♥
