Frustrated with her father’s demand she find a mate, Tawny does, but it’s not one that will receive her family’s blessing. Plus, her new love has no memory of his past…even his name.
Discovering an unconscious man who may be vampire, in the neighbor’s yard leads werewolf Tawny Howls down a love path that’s not going to make her father happy. She senses this man is different, but that doesn’t stop her attraction. Werewolves and vampires are traditional enemies, and it doesn’t help when he remembers nothing about his prior life.
Awakening to find a beautiful woman hovering over him, he remembers nothing of his past life. When Tawny decides to call him David, he’s fine with the name and the attention he receives from his nurse. But why does the scent of the prey she hunts excite him more than the food she cooks?
Can the strong attraction between a shifter and a vampire overcome years of distrust for each other’s species? Will the discovery of his true identity ensnare them in a battle that endangers their lives, in an effort to save mankind from Demon rule?

I love the world in the DEAD series. Each book adds more and more details to it and the paranormals just keep growing. Now angels, witches, shifters, and humans are joining the fray.
The overall plot is very interesting. Each book has a resolution to the conflict in it, but also lays the foundation for the overall plot in the series, the war against the demons and evil. Something that interests me is that this series is starting to have more and more ties to religion. Heck, David’s a vampire preacher who was saved when God sent him an angel. Satan and Beelzebub make appearances, they’re fighting evil demons, and David keeps quoting the Bible. In fact, Satan insinuates that vampires don’t go to Heaven, which I have a problem with. We have a cast of good vamps who fight against evil, yet they’re all doomed because of something that happened to them against their will? How messed up is that? Hopefully, future books will provide an answer. This book raises another question for me that I want to see answered. If vamps and shifters and demon hunters live so long, then what happens if they mate a human? If a werewolf mated a human, would the werewolf not age, but the human would? How would that work out? Anyways, moving on.
As for the characters, I liked David. He was an interesting character, a preacher turned vampire who never gave up fighting evil. I enjoyed seeing flashbacks to when he was human and was changed; it definitely helped me judge him character-wise. I will say, out of all the male leads, David is my favorite, though Bobby or Rahund just might replace him. As for Tawny, she’s probably my least favorite female lead. I like that she’s independent yet cares about her family. I just didn’t click with her at all. It seemed like I barely got to spend time with her. David was much more in this story than she was. She wasn’t in this book very much, which is odd seeing as the book is supposed to be about her and David. As for all the secondary characters, this book introduced a couple of new ones, my favorites being the nephilium Rahund and the werewolf Bobby. I definitely want to read a book about Bobby and Evan, and Rahund as well. Bobby is a sarcastic alpha male who also has been dedicating his life to fighting evil. Sexy, right? And I spent most of the book feeling sorry for Rahund and hoping that he’d get a happy ending (and maybe his own book). I also liked Lila, Tawny’s mom. She reminded me so much of my mother that I just started laughing at things she said or did exactly like my mom. All the characters from previous are still there as well, and are as wonderful as ever.
However, this leads me to a complaint I’ve had consistently. This isn’t romance. It’s a thriller/action book with romantic elements. The blurbs lead you to believe the romance is the big focus, but it’s not. The romance feels thrown in to me, like the author just decided to add it for the hell of it. If you removed Tawny and the romance, this book would still work and you probably wouldn’t notice it was missing, which is a definite indicator that this is more of an action/thriller than a romance. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the action and the fight against evil, it’s just that I was expecting much more focus on the romance, and as the books went on, the romance lessened in each one. On top of that, the main characters, the ones mentioned in the blurb, aren’t the focus either. In this one, poor Tawny got pushed to the side in my mind. David was huge in this book, but aside from the beginning, Tawny wasn’t really in it much. Between all the action, drama, and secondary characters, Tawny and the romance felt like afterthoughts.
All in all, I like the way the story is going, things are getting excited and I can’t wait to see where we go from here. I just think that the blurbs need to be better written and not as misleading as I think they are. I would definitely recommend this series to everyone, it’s a good Halloween read.

** For mature adults only, has violent and mature sexual situations in it.**
I loved this book, in some ways more than the previous, but only for the reason we just added some more great characters to the cast so far. Has all of them, we still have Dovey , Aaron, Daniel, BJ, Jonas and Arie, and the kids, and more returning characters I love. We briefly meet Tawney at the very end of Dead Hunter, and this book is about her finding a naked man in the field near BJ’s land in the mountains. She is a werewolf, and can sense he is not human, but beyond that has no clue what supernatural he is. He is unconscious and has a bad bullet wound on his head. So she carries him to BJ’s empty house, and nurses him to health. When this man wakes up, he has no memory of who or what he is.
This one I really liked a lot, as I find stories with memory loss quite interesting. It reminded me of the Bourne Identity movie and book. The memory loss part that is. I found it interesting when his thoughts went to blood, then he was appalled at himself, and kept checking his teeth for fangs. It was quite funny.
I liked the relationship that develops with Tawny and David (its what they decide to call him) and I thought it interesting how he gets “healed” will not say what, as it’s a spoiler. I want to keep this as spoiler free as I can.
We have a war of evil vs good here, well, got that in the others, but this is a bigger one brewing. We find our cast from the other books right in the thick of it.
This book, just like the others, is refreshing, has its action and adults only sexual situations. And we have the fun humor. I really have enjoyed this series so far, as I had said before the True Blood fans will like this series I think, as well as others that like a big mix of supernaturals in the modern world.
I highly recommend it.
5 out of 5 stars for me.
I received this book for my honest review for the book tour.
This series just gets better with every book. In this story, we meet a were and a vampire with memory loss. Before you say that the relationship will never work, here me out. Lizzie again, puts a different spin on the paranormal genre and with the mixture of demons, weres, vampires and now a witch. I truly can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. We are treated with returning characters that enhance the story and move the plot thread along. Great job.
Tawny is your typical Lousiana girl but with one problem. An overbearing father that just happens to be the leader of her pack. He wants her married, her mother wants her happy and Tawny just wants to marry for love, if possible. As an ex-cop, she is trying to fit back into the country way of life but one night on a run, she meets a stranger in need.
I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t get Tawny at first. I liked her, just didn’t get her. How did she not know that he was a vampire when she found him? And then, when she brought him back to the cabin to heal? It didn’t make sense to me at first. In the end though, I understand why. I liked how she stood up to her father and their back history was so typical of a father only wanting his daughter to marry and be happy. Anyone can identify with that. The interactions with her mother were great, too. She finally realized that her mother ruled the house, not her father. Very eye opening moment for her.
David was the more intriguing character between them. You knew he was a vampire but reading about his history and his tie to the demon was great. I loved how Lizzie wove the religious aspects into the story considering the setting. Well done again. David slowly coming out of the amnesia is a slow build but fascinating. Its not rushed and its brilliant. I would have never thought of creating a character like that. Nor have I read a character like that.
My only gripe, and its small, is how quickly the couple comes together. It felt a little rushed to me but in some ways, I understood it. With the war coming, David realizing how he was/is and Tawny finally coming out the closet, so to speak, it needed to be quick. Think Demons, Hell and Satan. Yes, Satan make another return and its a good one, too. All the characters from the other books make an appearance and again, I love seeing them again. Its a very small community of friends and family that Lizzie has created but each of the characters compliments the others. Word of caution, there are children in this book and they are AWESOME!!!! Not many people like children in their books but trust me, Dani and Keira are a very important part of the whole plot thread of the series.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. Let’s see we’ve had vampires, weres, demons, a demon hunter, a vampire doctor, Satan, a floating baby and a physic toddler. Again, the series just gets better and better.
*I received this book as part of a blog tour for a fair and honest review*
DEAD Memory is Lizzie's fourth book in the DEAD series and things just keep getting better and better. Every book I have read from this series I have loved. Some of the characters developed to quickly for me and sometimes it could feel a bit rushed but some how it didn't take away from the story and left the book the awesome page turner I like so much.
In DEAD Memory we meet up with Tawny, who we briefly learn about in the end of the second book. In this book we learn that Tawny and her family have secrets of their own about being werewolves. While out and about Tawny stumbles onto BJ's grandparents house and discovers a man passed out in front. She looks him over and sees that he is bleeding from his head. When he wakes up he doesn't have any idea who he is or where he is from. The only thing that we can tell from this point is that Tawny really likes this guy and her father isn't going to be to happy about it.
While I really like all the books, so far in this series I think this one might be one of my favorites I really like Tawny and she is so relatable when it comes to wanting to be happy but not willing to change who she is to please her parents or anyone else for that matter. When she was first introduced, to me she felt like she was nothing but a child and then here she is all grown up and a werewolf. Lizzie brings something else to her books that many authors are unable to do and that is to bring humanity to characters who one would think should be different because they themselves are not human.
I'm excited for the last book DEAD Hot and to see how Lizzie ends everything or maybe ends the series in a way that could leave room for more to come later.

Once again I find myself in the paranormal world of Lizzie T. Leaf, and as always it's amazing. I love the characters she's created in these short stories and I can't wait to read more.
This is another great story filled with the sarcasm that I love so much, along with some humor - not quite as much as the previous installments, but still a few laugh out loud moments. This one is slightly more on the serious side, but I still enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading Dead Hot.
Tawny Howls was a New Orleans police detective; that is, until her father urged her to come home and be with her 'own kind'. And by that, he meant for her to come home and find a mate. That's right, Tawny is a wolf, but she doesn't want to mate 'for the good of the pack', she wants to marry for love!
When she finds an unconscious naked man in her neighbors yard all her cop instincts kick in, along with her body! When the man finally wakes, he doesn't remember who or what he is.
How will these two make it a relationship work when they are supposed to be enemies, and one can't even remember his life before Tawny?
I'm such a sucker for vampires and werewolves, but throw in demons and OMG!
This story is JAMMED PACKED! Everything a reader could possibly want is there. Fighting, breaking and entering, male egos, and of course the all telling love scenes.
I swear each tale in this series gets better....by the end everyone is one huge family, that even I want to be apart of (I just have to decide what creature to be...LOL)
This story shows that bonds formed from friendships really do come in handy....you never know when a sword is coming down at your head!
Oh....Most important... If you see a HOT NAKED GUY in your front yard, always try to help out (Hey, you never know...maybe a witch sent him there)
Another Great Job Lizzie! Wonder who and what is coming in the next story!?!
Once again we are put into a world were not all supernatural beings are perfect and gorgeous. In fact, we have a vampire memory loss in this novella. Not only does the vampire have a problem, but Tawny, a werewolf, does too ... she is attracted to her mortal enemy. Is it possible for a vampire and a werewolf to do much more than co-exist? Lizzie brings an entertaining twist to the supernatural world. That is one of the main things I love about this series. Who knew that a world that is already complicated could have the same problems as a mere mortal. This series is entertaining and will keep you wanting to read the next.
The "Dead" series just keeps getting better and better. Another well written plot with strong characters from Lizzie! There are a few new characters in "Dead Memory" that you will love and as always, be prepared as there are mature sex scenes included.
