I highly suggest reading court of thorns and roses first. If you don't some things mentioned from the 1st book may not make much sense along with the relationships between characters. I waited so long between each book that I noticed I stopped a few times thinking "what!?" Then remembered the details of the 1st book that helped to understand those parts.

Definitely read a court of thorns and roses first! It is hugely important to the second book and certain things won't make sense if you don't!
