BHM asked:

I don’t get the prologue. Can anyone help? I know it’s Joy’s bike, but who is the stranger and how does it fit in the storyline?

Megan I think it was meant to be yet another piece of circumstantial evidence to make Stan look guilty. If they would have found the bike, they would have assumed that something bad happened to Joy while she was out riding and not that Stan had anything to do with it. That guy stealing her bike removed the evidence and him dying made sure the real story would never be told
Judith The Prologue makes you think the stranger removing Joy's abandoned bike from the side of the road is important, but it's actually irrelevant. Even if he had lived to turn it in as evidence, it wouldn't have shed any light on her disappearance. The Prologue tells the reader what happened to Joy's missing bike, but the Delaney's never find out & it's not part of the storyline.

Kim I listened to the book and never heard a reference to the bike again. I must have missed it. But I have to say that someone would have found a strange bike in the dead guy's car trunk eventually!! Seemed like the circle could have been closed bettter.
Heather Worley I agree. It didn't fit in well with the story.
