Why was the name Matilda for the new pup for "obvious reasons"? What did I miss?

Manda I had to Google this. It looks like Waltzing Matilda is an Australian folk song and the Women's football team's nickname is The Matildas.

Anna Also interestingly, Alix mentions wanting to get an Australian shepherd at the begin of the book. I didn’t pick up on that until I went back!
