Shadow Children was started 1998. Missing was started 2008. I haven't read both, so I don't know if they're a linked series. But if you want to read by publication order, then I guess Shadow Children would be first, as it was written before the Missing series. She started Missing after she ended Shadow Children.

If you haven't already started reading, I say start with the missing series, as it is set in the early 21st century, but the shadow children series is set in the future. (and no, these series do not have any link to each other)

The books are not linked, or at least it doesn't say they are in any of the Shadow Children books or the first six of the Missing series.
