Jason Simon is a high school English teacher and author from the United States. He spent more than a decade traveling and working outside the U.S. in Cairo, Egypt; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; and Beijing and Shenzhen, China, before resettling in Northeast Ohio in 2021. His work has appeared in publications such as Medium Chill, Masque & Spectacle, and All Persons Fictitious. The Dust Bowl aspect …moreI'm only a quarter of the way through, but I'm liking it so far. There's definitely some magical realism, but it's not overdone. The Dust Bowl aspect is important and clearly a statement on our contemporary behaviors around the environment. So far, I like the two main characters really well and find some of the surrealistic details interesting.

I loved Karen Russell's short story collection, Orange World, so I'm already sort of into what she does. I didn't love Swamplandia when I read it, but I'm thinking about giving it another try at some point.(less)
