THINGS JUST GOT REALER.

Justin has just barely caught his breath after surviving an encounter with the most notorious assassin in the Overworld, hellhounds, and his father's demon spawn relatives, when the universe throws him another curve ball. An attack by gray men sends him to Thunder Rock, a dreaded place where Elyssa's father, Thomas Borathen, and a host of Templars were ambushed by demon spawn nearly twenty years ago. Because of this, Thomas despises spawn and hates Justin.

Despite a foreseeance predicting Justin may be the only thing standing between the world and a cataclysm, major family issues, and a pair of angels who each want him to join their side of the conflict, Justin realizes he may be able to gain something even more important than world peace: the approval of Elyssa's father. But first, he'll have to find the culprit responsible for the ambush and bring him to Templar justice.

Trying to escape Thunder Rock, Justin is hurtled through an Obsidian Arch and ends up in Colombia. Elyssa is captured by her father, who's determined to make her take the White, a Templar ritual which will erase all her memories of Justin. Death cannot stop true love. But a mind wipe probably will.

Thousands of miles from home with destiny breathing down his neck, Justin has to solve a mystery older than he is, overcome new enemies, and make a citizen's arrest on the crazy mofo behind the insanity so he can save Elyssa and gain acceptance from her family.

Because true love is totally worth it.

This book rocked my socks off. I'm going to need another feather for my fedora hat when I'm done...

Just as Justin thinks he can finally try to get back to some semblance of a 'normal' life, fate decides it has other plans. Justin wishes nothing more than some free time with Elyssa, the Buttercup to his Wesley.

In his usual style, Justin barrels into trouble, head-first with little regard to planning. Walking away from a bloodbath at his high school is just the beginning of the adventure in this installment of the Otherworld series. There's no time for smelling the supernatural roses when you are on the run from every supernatural creature in the book and maybe even destiny itself. Once again, the book sprints from the starting gate directly into action, intrigue, and more details about Justin, his family, and Foreseeance 4311. As if all this isn't enough, he finds himself separated from Elyssa... and stranded in Columbia.

Fate, it seems, may not be ready for Justin and Elyssa to get their happily ever after just yet. Elyssa's family and especially her father feel nothing but hatred toward his 'kind' and will not allow their love to continue. Death may not stop true love... but a mind wipe probably could. Things were about to get even realer.

Readers that fell in love with Justin's wit can rest easy knowing that this book is just as humorous as the ones before it. His snarky humor in the unlikeliest of situations always brings a smile to my face. It's always a pleasure to see more of Justin as he further leaves his humble role playing, man-boobs origins behind and takes more steps into his power. He adds to his rag-tag family, charming and bumbling his way to find a path that will not lead to destruction of life as we know it, war within the Overworld, and where Elyssa will be by his side.

I received an ARC from John Corwin; these are my thoughts and honest opinion.

This third installment of the Overworld Chronicles is packed full of action and is seriously entertaining. You will not want to stop reading, even at the end of the book. Lucky for us, there is more to come.

Once again our hero, Justin, is overcoming the odds and fighting for his life and his love, this time with the fate of the world on his shoulders. I love that we can mark Justin's character development throughout this series, from nerdy high school student to hero. He has had to go through many challenges to get where he is now, but his character has not changed, and he is an overall good guy, the kind of guy that is easy to like and easier to love.

When you pick up this book, prepared to be entertained, prepare to be enchanted, and prepare to laugh out loud. This series is a must read!

Ok this will be my first review on Goodreads and i think the first review i ever made so keep that in your minds and be kind.

I've bought this book last night and finished it a few hours ago.I just couldn't put it down, often reading and re-reading passages because they were just what i've been looking for.

I'm mostly an UF reader and this is my first YA series but this series was the best i've read so far and i've been through quite a few famous authors.

I'm not going to spoil it to you the story as always had it ups and downs, ecstasy and agony, heartwarming and painful moments.

I love everything about this series. The characters, the setting, the story. I'm a helpless romantic and i love it when i find series with dynamic couples like Elysse and Justin or Tavi and Kitai who openly admit they're love for each other numerous times during the story.

Best series so far and i hope Mr. Corwin publishes even more books in this series than Butcher in Dresden Files - another series i love.

Have a nice lecture.

4.75stars I hope this ride doesn’t end too soon! Full Disclosure – I received a free digital copy to read in exchange for an honest review from the author.

This installment of the adventures of Justin Case Slade was a complete thrill ride from the opening sentence until the last. There were parts that seemed to drag, but that was more due to so much action that a slow-down seemed a drag; a lot of information bombs and just plain good things stuffed between the covers. How much can one half-DemonSpawn take? In addition to the great synopsis, everything fits well and was given the attention it deserved while neither neglecting, overdoing or glossing over the information we’ve already received.

While Justin is still reeling from the emotional bomb dropped by this mother in the previous book he has to continue to deal. Because that isn’t enough to have on his overfull plate, Elyssa is in dire straits and needs him desperately. Together they are a force to be reckoned with and they are tested together and separately and you can’t help but cheer for them and this episode focused squarely on them. I missed a few of the characters we had met previously because I liked them so much I wanted more.

The characters have grown a great deal since book one and in each outing there is a opportunity to flex and make choices. Overall, I’m enjoying the mystery as it plays out, each installment teasing a little more out while fully making use of the environment, the world, the characters and staying true to what needs to happen next. This is definitely a series that should be read in order so that each bit can be savored properly. I don’t know exactly when this ride will end, but I hope it isn’t anytime soon. Beyond my desire to read more of this world, I can only give a standing ovation.

Book 3 in the Overworld chronicles has me waiting for book 4. The series is fast paced and full of a variety of supernatural characters (not just another teenage vampire story). There is a brief overview at the beginning of the book for readers who haven't read the first two but since these are fast reads and fun it's worth starting at the beginning

This book answers the question of whether Justin Case Slade the half-demon spawn, will find true love with Elyssa the Damphyr (half-human - half-vampire). It's not exactly a match made in heaven and family and Overworld politics, not to mention a Colombian drug cartel are against the union. I won't answer the question of whether they overcome the obstacles since I'm not a fan of reviews with spoilers.

So now I've probably left you thinking this is a teenage vampire love story but it really isn't. I'm not a teenager and not typically a fan of the vampire genre so you may ask why I love these stories. The reason is the author and his sarcastic wit. The books are action packed with Justin getting himself in more scrapes than John McClane, and Justin is even harder to kill.

Hopefully in the next book more will be revealed about Justin's mystery mother and sister.

Disclaimer: I did receive an ARC to review and provide comment to the author pre-release. The review is my honest opinion and has nothing to do with providing feedback during the writing process. In fact, I liked the book enough to read the final version again before writing this review.

Synopsis:

My Thoughts:

The latest installment of the Overworld Chronicles finds Justin and Elyssa in Thunder Rock with Kassallandra where they learn more about Foreseeance 4311. I actually ended up feeling like Kassallandra wasn't all that bad. A bit snotty, but not the scary bitch that I was expecting. She wasn't even actually out to hurt David, it seems. She wants to try to talk him back into the fold. She actually helps Justin and Elyssa out quite a bit. And then things really get crazy.

Justin ends up getting dragged off by some cold, tentacle-y thing and ends up in some underground cave with a bunch of arches-some intact, some destroyed. Not only does he find these arches here, but there are some creepy as cherub like things that are really cold. He manages to escape from there and ends up in Colombia. Only to end up surrounded by shadowy things that are cold like the cherub things. He eventually ends up in a small village occupied by a bunch of Arcane and they tell him about yet another foreseeance that seems to be centered around him. But while Justin is stuck in Colombia, Elyssa is dragged him by her father and forced to take the White aka get a memory wipe.

Things get even crazier still when Justin gets kidnapped for a ransom and ends up pulling off a harrowing escape only to discover the Templars are after him and that one of them is his memory wiped girlfriend.

Things seem quite dire for Justin on the romance front until they go back to El Dorado to find Vadaemos Slade since they assume he's been hiding there. Turns out, they're right and they manage to capture him, but not without a whole lot of trouble in the attempt. Once they make it back to Atlanta, they discover help from someone they really didn't expect it from. And then Elyssa's dad shows up and things go insane yet again.

Thomas is determined to kill Justin, but then Vadaemos goes on a rampage. Justin manages to fight him, but it's Nightliss (who we learn a lot about in this book) who stops him. Thomas realizes it's in his best interests to work with Justin, even if he doesn't like it at all.

So we end the book with one mystery solved and some more allies for Justin. And it looks like his father decides to take a cue from Justin and mend some bridges as well. Justin is not happy with that decision at all. I can understand, but I feel like he overreacted. But maybe, it was to be expected. After all, he's got no family left now. I'd be hurt and angry, too. I hope he can forgive his dad, though.

Oh! And

I know we have more revelations ahead. That book 4 preview already has me deciding that I'm not gonna like Ivy at all. Spoiled little bitch.

This was a make or break book for me. There were a bunch of things that happened early on in the story that made me feel bad for Justin. While I was reading, I came up with a couple of possibilities for how the story could go. If it went one way, I would put down the series and never come back to it. If it went the other way, then I would take that as a sign that this is the series for me and I would continue on. Luckily the ending went my way, and I am going to continue with the series.

Before I get into specifics of what happened, for those people who listen to audio books, I got the first 3 books as a box set which means I only had to pay 1 credit for all three books. It is a good deal and I would recommend it.

The pacing in this book is the same as the others, and by that I mean it is non-stop. Justin barely survives one encounter and then he immediately is drawn into another major catastrophe. Elyssa keeps telling him how he needs to think more and not just jump into danger, but in Justin's defense, he keeps getting attacked and not given enough to to do anything but react.

Justin finally resolves his issue at school with the coaches and principle about football and his friends. Immediately after that, he is attacked by the grey men and is able to escape to Thunder Rock with Elyssa and the Spawn his father was supposed to marry. We get a little more background on what happened there. Then Elyssa and Justin get separated and he ends up Columbia while Elyssa has her own problems to deal with, which might change both her and Justin's lives forever.

I have to wonder about the templars organizational structure. The group was described as being like Interpol. They are sort of like the police force for the supernatural world but are only really responsible for maintaining the secret or helping out when they are called in. What happens inside a faction is none of their business as long as it doesn't break the rules. This made me wonder how Elyssa's father could get away with half the things he did. He kept going after Justin because he was a spawn but Justin never broke any rules. I know he didn't like his daughter being with Justin, but everyone one else just followed his orders when they knew Justin didn't do anything wrong?

Overall this has been a good series and I have already bought the next audio book.

Once again, we see a vast improvement over the previous book!

As with the previous, Austin Rising's audio narration is absolutely fantastic. His voices are widely varied and spot on. His vocal inflections are excellent. And his tempo changes are subtle but very effective.

In this installment, we thankfully take several more steps back from the sexuality and eroticism of the first book. And while it is still present, it is mostly in the background.

There is quite a bit of new information in this one, both background and active events. There's a lot going on and a lot of people pulling strings in the shadows to make things happen. Some of those things help our heroes and some don't.

There is a bit of over-convenience in a few key events, but there is still enough mystery in the background to make it at least somewhat believable.

There is some new depth added to some of the characters and some very interesting things come to light at last. I'm beginning to see just how deep the plotting goes and just how high the coming events are going to reach.

I'm definitely a fan of the "Angels" or whatever they are, and all the nuances and conflicts that come with them. I especially enjoy that it still isn't certain just who is good and who isn't, or even if any side is truly good.

It needs to be noted, however, that even through all this, I still don't believe in Justin and Elyssa's love. The convenient contrivance of it still smacks of him unconsciously manipulating her. And the way she acts in this book with her memories gone only adds to that.

Now, things come together very well in the end, if a bit too conveniently. The various threads finally come together and some interesting reveals occur that just continue to make this story and world all the more interesting.

I will definitely be continuing this series.

This author is so imaginative and the world building and characters are so well done. There is so much action and so many threads, but they are written so cleverly that they are easy to keep track of and follow.

Justin ends up at Thunder Rock after escaping an attack by the gray men, thinking he's just going to have a conversation and get some information from Kassallandra, the woman who was jilted when Justin's father didn't go through with their arranged marriage. He falls through an arch, ends up in Columbia and ultimately finds himself with some mages who are protecting the human world from evil creatures in a long-abandoned city. Justin's adventures come hard and fast; he's driven by his love for Elyssa, the daughter of a Templar who hates his kind and will go to nearly any length to keep his daughter away from Justin. Justin encounters everything from suspicion and outright disgust to admiration and support from the people he meets. The story contains incredible action, unusual and interesting characters and magic, betrayal, unexpected help and is underlined by Justin's strong sense of loyalty and goodness, and having to constantly work to convince others that he is a good person, despite being considered demon spawn. If you like fast-paced, incredibly imaginative stories with well-written characters pick up this book. Better yet, start with the first book of the Overworld series to get caught up on all the excitement in this one. The entire series is on Kindle Unlimited.

love and love lost ……

…..Can change everything if you’ve never loved someone with all your heart and soul it may be a foreign concept. but Justin has love…..a lot very very strongly so it seems his loss bites harder and stronger as he goes trough trying to get proof of exactly who brought hate into his beloveds dad brother mom maybe even the family pet (especially if you think a werewolf ) is a family pet Justin pushes all the boundaries to find all the answers so he can deliver the filthy spawn that has caused him his shot at happiness. Different arc’s go to different places that’s what he learned then found out someone went through an arc with no choice and ended up in Columbia what went on there was crazy between the whispers and the Dan ya Dan ya who would go in there on purpose

I certainly think the writing of this novel is getting better, though the pacing is still off in some parts and ruins the anticipation of some reveals. It also makes use of that really annoying trope where characters don't say what they fricken need to say until someone else blurts it out at the worst possible moment.
Justin has certainly matured though he's still really selfish. He doesn't seem to understand the stakes and blows up at ill opportune moments.
Not enough of Stacy the Felycan.

Also, Elyssa's dad can go suck a dick!

Wow

Okay, wasn't expecting the Daelissa(sp?) And Nightliss twist. Can't believe what Elyssa's father did, and how he was willing to overlook Justin's evidence, due to his festering hatred of demon spawn. Every time I put the book down, my mind was occupied trying to remember all the pieces and put them together.

just excellent

What a great read. Elyssa mind is wiped of Justin and anything to do with him. Justin is devastated by this and tries to get her back. He finds allies halfway across the world in an attempt to prove to Elyssa’s father that he is one of the good guys. Maybe, biting off a little too much, but then again, that is what he does. Excellent read.

This one still leaves me wanting to find out the next installment in tbe series, but at least felt like we learned something and moved forward a step in the challenges facing the supernatural people of the Overworld. More satisfying than the last, and with some character growth in reasonable pace.

This book continues, again, right where the last one left off, almost to the minute.

This time Justin's father's spurned lover hunts him down and, in the process of saving them from marauding golems of the elusive Gray man hunting Justin, takes both him and Elyssa to Thunder Rock, site of the massacre that caused Elyssa's father to despise all Spawn. Determined to solve that mystery so Elyssa's father won't hate him drags Justin into more conflict with new friends and enemies.

This book doesn't maintain the frenetic pace of the last one - there is more exposition and discussion amongst characters with less pure action. The break is nice, and it allows for a better sense of the overall conflict Justin is caught up in.

I like Justin as a character - despite his self-admitted scarcity of planning skills, he doesn't run off constantly without thinking things through. In a couple of instances in this book he was actually more prepared than those around him.

My major complaints about this book centered around the end.

Hahaha...these books are hilarious. They really are. I love Justin's happy-go-lucky attitude, it just makes for a pleasant reading experience from his point of view.
He makes all kinds of mistakes, and just kind of blunders along, while trying to do what's right. I'm very attached to him.

So much action. So many subplots. But not too many that you lose sight of the main goal. It has been a very fun ride.

Unfortunately, Corwin decided to jump on the amnesia bandwagon that seems to be in almost all YA novels right now. The good thing? Corwin kept things interesting. First of all, Elyssa knew she was going to lose her memories. She made herself a record and found a nifty way to keep it on her person. It was a little convenient how it came to be found, but it was also something that I've yet to see. Secondly, Justin didn't go all emo or anything, and he kept the lid on his emotions instead of jumping all over her with their history. He gave Elyssa time and space to get herself together.

Did I mention that these books are funny? Sure, they're very immature, but I like that. These are not very thought provoking, instead, they're a lite, enjoyable read that keep you biting at the bit for more. I will certainly be reading the next one.

Just finished John Corwin’s Fallen Angel of Mine, book three of the Overworld Chronicles, and while I’ve liked this series I have to say book three is my fave by far! Everything was right in this one - took the series from an "I like it" status and raised it to a solid recommendation, especially for older teens who enjoy paranormal. Fallen Angel of mine delivered what I would have liked to see in the series from the very beginning.

I don’t know if it was due to this book’s placement in the series (book one was the introduction, book two was set up, and now book three is more “meat” of the story) or if it is reflective of Mr. Corwin’s continued growth as a writer and deepened knowledge of the characters, but this book really satisfied me. It had a great overarching story with the search for Vadaemos, and awesome new characters in addition to the ones I have come to care about. The action is phenomenal and very well written, and a few of the story’s mysteries were solved. Now of course this opened up a bevy of new questions, but that’s what the next book is for right? Can’t wait to get my hands on it!!

I downloaded this from Amazon the day it became available and read it immediately. If you liked the first two books in the series, you'll probably like this one also.

I enjoyed it the least of the three. It's still a good read, but I didn't find myself becoming as emotionally invested as I did in the first two. I'm not sure why, so it might be an idiosyncratic reaction on my part.
