C.D. Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping a single cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

“Don’t deny me. I’m yours.”

Can I just take a moment and tell you ALL that I’m amazed and in absolute awe of the insane talent that this author brings to the table each and every time? I mean, DAMN! I want to live in her brain! I want to devour her thoughts! I want to live and breathe in the pages of her stories! From the early stages of KING OF CODE, I adored Catherine’s character. I wanted to reach through the pages and hug her forever. I felt her intense emotions with just the little bit of interaction we had with her during that time. Now, the time has come for her to have her happily ever after with her long lost love, and I’m a freaking mess! From the very beginning of WHITE KNIGHT, I knew I was in for quite an emotional rollercoaster but I had complete faith in CD Reiss to take me where I needed to go…and MY GOD, was it a freaking FANTASTIC place, indeed.

Catherine and Chris….Chris and Catherine….these two STOLE MY HEART from page one! I felt their pain. I felt their determination. I felt their joy and their love. These two have had a rough go of things and when the long lost love is finally found…their happily ever after is FAR from an easy one. They have pains to go through…struggles to fight through…feelings to rediscover and embrace. Your heart will definitely go through the ringer with this one, but it will be entirely worth it!

WHITE KNIGHT takes place in the same world as KING OF CODE but it can be read as a standalone. If you haven’t already, pick up this book, as well as, King of Code, Prince Romance, and Prince Charming. This is one exciting, emotional, and passionate world you do not want to miss!

White Knight follows one time teenage sweethearts, Catherine and Chris, ten years after they last saw each other. They first met when Catherine was the rich girl at the country club and Chris was just a lowly worker most ignored. When their lives bring them together again, though, Chris is now wealthy with a name everyone knows in New York, and Catherine is still in the small town, selling off her family's possessions for money.

I honestly don't know what to say about this book because I'm just so conflicted over it. I liked everything in parts; when we got Catherine and Chris' past, I enjoyed it, and same for when we saw them together in the present. But how it all came together was a little frustrating. I'm not a fan of past and present back and forth chapters and there were a lot of parts set in the past being shoved into this story. I felt like I never got time to connect to the characters before the book would jump forward or back.

I ended up liking the past a lot more also because the present was moving so much faster. In the end I barely remembered anything happening in the present between Chris coming back and Catherine falling into his arms again. And then the ending just felt very abrupt to me and I was frankly a little annoyed that near the end a lot of things weren't being shown in detail and instead were just mentioned.

Overall, I did enjoy the story of Catherine and Chris, and how they found each other again after they were pushed apart. Even though I had issues with the story I would definitely still recommend it. I think it was really well written and the only thing that kept me from loving it was my own hate for past/present books.

Oh to be young and in love. Sneaking around and finding time with the one you love. BUT to be caught during your first time and ripped away from the only person you feel connected to, not just your best friend, but your everything. It’s shattering. He leaves with a promise to come back for you..... yeah 13 years later.......

13 years built upon lies, twisted with nightmares, and sadly when he reappears, truths are revealed that just simply piss me off. Not the writing, no, just the story...
Okay, just wait..... I did enjoy reading about Catherine and Christopher. I loved that they got a second chance at that once in a lifetime love. I love the life that they could and will build. And I love that they overcame their fears and didn’t give up on that instant chemistry that these two share

Christopher runs off to New York City to build a dream, build a future to where he is worthy of his childhood love. His love of a girl that he wants his forever with. After 3 years of unanswered letters, he finally moves on. Right?? We are given flashbacks of present to past in the first half of this book. It’s beautifully done, shows the relationship in the beginning, the struggles afterwards, and what becomes of each of the characters. When the two characters finally reconnect, they do so gracefully. I wished for some more groveling, some more answers to the in between we didn’t get, and just more....

Catherine is a heroine that is all about giving and pleasing others. She doesn’t do much for herself, she would rather give to others than receive. She has taken care of everyone else around her, when will she take care of herself?? Is it when the love of her life returns or will it take more than that to finally live her life?

I enjoyed the ending and the way the book wrapped up. This was a low angst read for me, it was a second chance at love and it was about finding and rediscovering your lifetime love ❤️

Dear Catherine,
This time, I’ll come with you wherever you want to go.
I’ll stay where you want to stay.
I am at your service from this point on.
All my love,
Christopher.

From the moment I read the synopsis to White Knight, I knew this was definitely a book I was going to enjoy; rich girl, poor boy, two different people coming from completely different worlds. Two people torn apart by pride and their differing social standings; a poor boy who needs to leave and make something of his life, something he can be proud of. Will these two people get a second chance at love and will they overcome the obstacles life throws their way? I knew one thing for sure, that I had to read each and every page to find out. C D Reiss has written an addictive second chance love story in the same world as King of Code, but can be read as a complete standalone.

Catherine Barrington (is from the prestigious Barrington family who essentially own the town) and Chris Cartwright first fell in love when they were teenagers even though they came from two different worlds. They had an intense attraction, a longing, a desire and a love for each other that transcended their social status. Despite their differences they really saw each other for who they were deep down in their soul.

Chris decided to take off to New York to try and make something of his life and earn the kind of living he had always envisioned. To say he was a little money obsessed would be an understatement. Even though he was miles away from his love, Catherine, she was never out of his heart or his mind.

The road to wealth and privilege was not always easy for Chris, but he sure did accomplish what he had set out to achieve. Due to certain circumstances Chris returns to the town of Barrington after many years and also to Catherine. Would they rekindle their burning flame and pick up where they left off?

How the mighty have fallen! Catherine is no longer the rich girl Chris remembers. She has now been resorted to selling her family possessions in order to make money. One thing Catherine knows for sure is her love for Chris has never wavered.

White Knight is set in both the past and present, so it gives us readers an insight into all aspects of both Chris and Catherine. I’m not always a fan of books jumping from past to present and back again, as it can get confusing and I find that I struggle to connect with the story and characters, but I felt it really worked well and CD Reiss did a stellar job keeping the story flowing throughout.

I loved Chris and Catherine in both past and present, the more I read the more I wanted to know and I was fully invested in their journey back to each other. If you are a fan of second chance love stories that will give you serious feels then I urge you to one click this one. Definitely my favorite CD Reiss book to date.

There are only so many stories to be told...Oh, each can be told differently, creatively and with each author's unique way of telling it. C.D. Reiss is an author who has all of the above with additional doses of ways to reach into your head and heart with just a few words that can carry the weight of everything two people are experiencing for the first time... the pull to one another.

Wide-eyed, he said, "Did you feel it?"
"I did. I did feel it."
"What was it?"
"I don't know."
"Have you felt it before?"
"No. But I still kind of...it's still there."

With that simple exchange, as a reader who is able to think back to first love... or even first lust, those words can cause all sorts of thoughts rushing to the mind...The words so basic, so forthright and even innocent in the moment...A perfect example of this author putting her twist on the tale of young, forbidden love...lost and then hopefully renewed.

If you've read King of Code then you may remember Catherine and Chris. In White Knight, their novella is one of lost love and how they come back together...but things are not easy as both are not the teenagers they were...

Life happened and left its mark on the both of them. Both needed to decide who they are to each other now...This was a moving story...handled with insight to understand a woman needs to know who she is without a man beside her...She needs to be comfortable in her own skin... so that she can then be able to stand side by side with the man she loves.

It does end quickly, however, Reiss has gifted you beginning chapters of King of Code and Prince Charming to entice you for more.

Chris Carmichael is the business! I swooned so hard! Seriously, I almost fainted! This series by CD Reiss is my absolute favorite. Her writing is flawless, the story is impressive, and the end result is magical!

Here's the breakdown: Chris and Catherine were separated early in their young relationship. After falling for the boy from the wrong side of town, Catherine has to let him go despite how deeply they care for one another. Years later when they see one another again, the chemistry is still there, but is it enough?

I'm completely enamored by this emotional second chance romance. It’s so detailed and well written. The characters are brilliantly written and the emotional nature of the story really resonated with me.

Although I'm not a huge fan of time jumps, I loved Chris and Catherine's origin story. I enjoyed it quite a bit because it helped set up the reunion. The characters are well written. Chris is a standout. I could both empathize and relate to him. I wasn't as impressed by Catherine's character, but she's interesting. The writing in a CD Reiss novel is always a highlight.

All in all this is a fantastic addition to an already amazing series. Recommended!

It's live!
It's #romantic!
And I totally loved it!

'White Knight,' is a total melt-your-heart romance. I swooned. My heart beat fast and I basked in the visceral feelings this couple showed me. It explores the feelings of first love, second chances and the person we are inside. It’s about a girl who used to cry and the boy who went away to find his fortune. 'White Knight,' eloquently illustrates the thought process of what is really important and the aspects of a person’s character that makes them attractive to another.

Rich girl Catherine Barrington meets Christopher when she is 16 and he is poor. The narrative toggles between the past and present showcasing the time of first love, first attraction and how it all went wrong, and the ultimate development of the second chance, very beautiful romance. That first time rush of feelings for another person is depicted perfectly, in fact, both the first time and second chance love are flawlessly crafted.

I especially loved that, 'White Knight,' is romantic without being overly sweet so it very much suited my reading palette and made the story very powerful for me. It's a romance that I FELT deep inside and was completely invested in, my favourite of this STANDALONE series.

NOTE: White Knight is a standalone in the same world as King of Code, You don't need to read anything else to read White Knight.

When flashbacks don't add to the story of the MC's, when the events are so vapid that they could have been rather told than shown (the other way around this time), they become fillers for me and I start wishing the narrative would stay in the present.

A missed opportunity, in my opinion, for a story that could have been emotionally engaging.

And sometimes I wish authors would read Ravishing the Heiress to see/learn how flashbacks can show the growth of two characters - separately and together - and give meaning to the state they find themselves in, instead of a simple recounting of events.

I'm not belittling the heartbreak of two 16-year-old teenagers, I am criticising the content - or the execution of it. It would have been so much more interesting to see a second-chance-romance of two grown-up's whose lives developed in a way nobody could have foreseen when they were 16.

"My lips, his lips. My heart. His heart. One breath. One moment inside of a life."

Chris and Catherine's love story gave me allll the feels!! Ahhhh! I've fallen head over heels for these two!

One of my favourite kinds of stories to read is a second-chance romance! And my god, did this one bring me back to the day when you are in love for the first time. That pang in your chest. Feeling all hot and needy for each other. You want to spend every moment together. And the messing around. RAWR. I swear I felt every emotion these two felt, while traveling their love journey! I felt like I was going to die at times. My heart ached for them to be happy. And oh god, Chris. What a swoony fucker! There were plenty of sexy moments, laugh out loud moments and I definitely shed tears! But I smiled, A LOT. Loved it! Basically. My heart exploded repeatedly while reading White Knight.

First Love........FastForward 13 Years......and Second Chance Love emerges to present a passionate love story. Told in past and present tense, the reader is able to understand the beauty of First Love between Catherine and Chris and then experience the opportunity of Second Chance Love when the two reunite in Barrington, USA. The poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks comes home after he has made it to try and reclaim the beautiful, rich love of his life. But being 16 and then 29, feelings, emotions and the mind creates havoc with thinking what you wanted back then could be this same thing that you want right now.

I loved getting the first love between Catherine and Chris. They were both intense and passionate and knew from their very first meeting that it was love. But sometimes life doesn’t go as planned and roles get reversed. So 13 years after Chris leaves, he comes back. He has set out to do what he needs to do and Lancelot needs to be brought home. Catherine has become a strong woman but she is also struggling with her life, with her town and her responsibilities she feels for everyone, and now the love of her life that has come back to claim her.

As always, the writing of CD Reiss is extraordinary. Her words are filled with visual intensity and passion. All I can say is that the letters were touching and I loved them all!!

But I will say that the ending felt a little rushed to me. I didn’t get to relish in the HEA as much as I wanted too. But in all, the story was a wonderful second chance love story.

“But he who dares not grasp the thorn
Should never crave the rose” – Emily Brontë

White Knight is a sumptuous story of the fantasy inherent in the second chance at romantic love and of the reality that time and distance takes exacting its toll in changing people and their circumstances. C.D. Reiss, true to form, presents us with two passionate erotic love affairs of the same couple 13 years apart, Catherine Barrington and Chris Carmichael. Liberally sprinkled throughout the narrative are references and metaphors of the rose, rose bushes and thorns.

Her use of rose metaphors and mentions became almost mystical to me because after awhile I swear I could smell the faint odor of roses as I read this captivating story of love won and lost. Perhaps the author was gifting us with some sacred and beautiful truth on which to hold by her frequent mention of and references to roses.

Allow me to digress…what have roses come to symbolize through the ages? In every “major religion” they have great significance. In ancient India the cosmic rose, known as Tripurasundari, symbolized the beauty, the strength, and the wisdom of the divine mother. In the temples of the Sumerian and Egyptian priests rosicrucian (cross and rose) symbols were already used many millenniums before the Christian era. In Hinduism and in many parts of the world, this is the flower of love and affection. In Islam roses are seen as symbols of the human soul so smelling them reminds them of their spirituality. The holy Zohar opens with the image of the Jewish nation likened to a beloved rose with 13 petals and 5 sepals. The Christian sees in the rose the beauty of the Garden of Eden, paradise, a world that reflected God’s design. In Catholicism, the scent of roses is considered the odor of sanctity and roses are associated with the Blessed Virgin as is the Rosary upon which Catholics pray.

World literature abounds with thematic metaphor and references to roses. Here too in reading the White Knight, we as readers are presented with a literary bouquet of an abundance of roses and the varied beautiful meanings ascribed to them which lift our hearts and souls above the ordinary. However, we need remember with roses come the thorns.

Interestingly enough… when we meet the older Catherine, she is setting fire to what is now known as the “thorn bushes”. They once were carefully tended rose bushes but have grown wild, tangled and thick. In some way I feel they represent Catherine’s heart which has itself grown wild, tangled and thick with the sadness, watered with nightly tears, she felt for 13 years at the loss of the boy/man Chris.

There is sublime magic in the telling of the young love of these two. There passion so new, so pure and innocent. The mutual discovery of their desire is so enchanting. Circumstances as they were then, ripped them apart. Chris a poor boy could offer Catherine a young heiress nothing but himself. Truly, that is all she really wanted. Chris more the realist of the two...while he loved Catherine desperately, he needed money and lots of it to feel valuable to her. The pursuit of money became his focus. From being a nobody and having nothing in New York, he became a billionaire hedge fund manager. Somewhere in the pursuit of wealth he lost himself and the purpose of his pursuit of wealth.

After a disastrous turn of events in his business and the desire to bury his faithful dog, Lance back in Barrington, he has returned and wants his Catherine back…whatever it takes. She does not want him. She is hurt beyond feeling the pain.

“It’s too late to ride in and rescue me. I don’t need a knight in shining armor anymore.” “Maybe I’m the one who needs to be rescued,” he whispered. “I can’t do that.” I pulled my arm down, and he let go. “I’m sorry. I can barely save myself.”

The story of their eventual reunion has Chris pricking himself on her thorns, this Catherine of the Roses, who still smells like roses. There is so much time that yawns between them. The tug and pull…the angst as they work out their feelings is engrossing…and surely it would not be a C.D. Reiss novel, if we did not get the erotic rekindling.

I was nearly blinded by the light made by their heat coming off the page…my ears were ringing for the blood rushing through my body while I read and the whole time… and I literally smelled the faint scent of roses!

Despite the pleasure they found in each other, Chris understands that he needs to do more and becomes even more than that romantic, sexy modern-day knight who will save the day as he woos his lady and proves to her his devotion. Having lived for money alone at one time which resulted in abject loneliness...he is now determined to claim his Catherine of the Roses no matter what it takes.

“A man could love a woman like that to death. A man could love a woman like that forever. A man could stand by a woman like that and watch her bloom. Water her. Tend her gently. Respect the thorns. Love the rose. A man could walk beside a woman like that the rest of his life.”

So, the gift of the love for him resembles a rose, his Catherine as he gifts her 749 roses. (These roses infinitely more valuable than dollars.) The reader is given the gift of renewed appreciation of this singularly precious, spiritual and beautiful flower, the rose and all it represents in this contemporary tale of the very modern, albeit uber romantic, "White Knight".

The blurp of this book whats makes me want to listen to this audibook. But when i was listening it, i thinj the story can be developed much deeper. More twist and more drama. More angst. Especially part 2 when Chris comes back to Catherine. Instead of that promise, the story is flat. I especially need more grooveling from Chris. I feel Catherine forgives him too easily. So easy that makes Chris gets away so easy.

I dont hate it but i dont love it either. It feels flat for me.

Well, I really liked King of Code, the first book in this series. This one... not so much. I enjoyed parts of it... other parts, I didn't. The writing is great, and I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another of this author's books. I'm not huge on second chance romance, so maybe that's my problem.

Overall, after reading it, I just thought... meh...

What just happened ? The book was so short ? WTH christine?!
I can't stop reading A Reiss book, the sheer joy of my eyes going over the words, my heart conforming to the bumps and dips of emotions..gaahh!! I want this story to go on forever !!!!!
This story is about a society divided by a fence that runs right through these young hearts . Catherine Barrington is practically Royalty and Christopher Carmichael a minion like boy who mows lawns and does end jobs.
The instant their eyes meet, it's like a force field forms around them, it's palpable energy too magnetic to keep away from

It felt as though two planets that had been on separate trajectories for light years had finally collided and melded.
Catharine is a victim of "Older Child Syndrome", in my opinion, ones who go from childhood to straight adulthood with no fun times in between. They're burdened with added responsibilities of younger siblings, split parent tensions and taking care of the house, in this case the town. It's a boulder of onus around the neck of Rin, pulling her down. So she puts her feelings & happiness on the back burner and dives headlong into Salvage & rescue mission for her town, her people .her day is full, but her nights are her own time to cry. It's so sad that tears have to flow before dreams can take their place in her eyes.
I was a grown Woman
I don't know what Christine's intent or sounding board was for this book, because I haven't read a tear-jerker from her before, but my tears couldn't stop running. I'm still choked up thinking about the story I finished last night!!
So, Catherine sells her heart to her parents and nails the doors to her heart shut tight.
I didn’t apologize to the Chris of today or even five years before, but to the sixteen-year-old boy who’d loved me. I’d let him go. I hadn’t chased him. Hadn’t fought for him. Hadn’t looked for him or asked his mother what happened to him. And now I was releasing him with regret. But I was releasing him.

(Omg I'm tearing up again)😭😭
It's a second chance romance with enough angst to eclipse the earth. It's Bröntésque in its appeal and feel, a veritable cauldron of boiling, hissing emotions singeing your skin. You'll scarred for days after, that I can assure you.
I've always looked forward to a reiss book and never been disappointed. A writer who can create Joanthan Drazen/Monica can create Chris/Catharine, with same ethos and sincerity is a testament to her range and vision of the craft. The Man:Woman in her stories are treated with rawest and most basic form of passion. It's a one to one connection. The scene where Chris tries to settle the conflict in Catharine' s mind is so powerful. It's like watching the birth of Adam & Eve . He redefines their roles as Man & a Woman by stripping it down to the basics.
“This is me with nothing. I came in this way, and I’ll go out this way. This body? It has needs. I need food, water, and sleep, okay? That’s how it stays alive. I have a brain. It comes with the package. It needs to work and to figure things out. If I’m not doing that, I’m dead, because it’s here, in the skin. And I have a heart. When I’m naked and all the other shit is gone, it’s part of me.
It needs you.
You.”

This scene itself commands standing ovation. I reread this 3 times...just so I could memorize that I'm reading something profound, something life changing !
I could babble and babble, but I have to stop. I loved the book, which you can deduce by my ramblings. My only peeve, the end came like suddenly... It's like you opened the door to a room and find yourself on the street, no way of going back in!!. Huh! . It's over!!
Secondly Chris's worklife was a bit covert, I'd have liked to see his assurances backed with concrete explanations. The end tied up hastily. And it is a novella length 🤔
But Hey! A Reiss book is a bible for emotions at the end of the day. Not Even The Flying Monkeys could keep me away from devouring, lapping, savouring, soaking EVERY WORD written by her . It's eternal love connection . My heart ❤ her words !

This is a Very Sweet Contemporary 2nd chance Romance if that is right up your alley, you will Love this book! There were things that I loved about this book but to be quite honest the overall feeling was just a Meh for me which sucks because I really like this author.

These reviews for me are the hardest to write as there really wasn't anything wrong with the book just not enough things that I would like.

I loved that Christine NAILED Small Town People, Small Town Problems & Small Town Romance.

I grew up in a small town that only survived because we had a small military base there. This is absolutely what would have happened if they had closed the base when I was younger. Nowadays, the town might survive, might. Back then, nope. Not. At. All. I'm so glad this book showed how some people stay not because they are w/o options, but because it's home. It's about the people down there. Not as much as what you have or what you don't, but who you are in good times & the bad. I also Adored that CD Reiss showed us true & let us have our Dignity! Alot of times, people depicted us as Ignorant Rednecks. Oh Believe me, we have our pride & definitely are Redneck. But we are far from ignorant just because we talk slow and with an accent.

This book for Chris & Rin did remind me a lot of the movie Sweet Home Alabama. You had your 2nd chance, young teen relationship, one goes off to make something of themselves. Yada Yada Yada. {I guess my taste in movies & books are way different because I loved that movie. Oh well, Go Figure. } I also loved how Chris chose to bridge the time gap between them. I did not like that the author did not delve into them trading stories more along with the reactions from the other. I felt cheated. Then all of a sudden we are at the wedding after a couple of months & trips. I wanted those scenes. Not just be told they happened.

This book missed out on holding my attention but definitely has my respect. It was more of an emotional read then I care for. I understand why the author chose to portray some of the things she did.

I loved the writing, loved how she gave the flashbacks a whole chapter not just a quick thought. She allowed you to fall for the characters then & now. The wording was beautiful & descriptive.

Wasn't a huge winner for me but not a Loser either.

I graciously received a free copy for this ARC of this book & would like to thank the author. I voluntarily chose to post a review of my Honest Opinion of this book with No Influence or Interference from any company of person.

The rich girl in love with the poor boy. The rich girl ends up poor and the poor boy works hard and becomes rich. With that concept in mind, CD Reiss allows readers to fall in love with both characters as we are taken through a journey where the past and present collides. Since the story is pretty much straight forward, I will just say that Reiss does an excellent job showcasing the raw emotions of both the hero and heroine as they rediscover and fight for their happily ever after. So if you are looking for a second chance love story that had all the right elements then White Knight is the book for you.

Overall: 5/5
Naughty Factor: 3/5
POV: Dual/1st person

My life wasn’t divided into the years before that moment and the time after because he was handsome and strong. It wasn’t because he was charming or interesting. It was because he was mine.

OMG! This story was absolutely beautiful and the way it was told was breathtaking and epic. I felt so much longing from Chris and Catherine’s characters, it broke my heart at times.

CD Reiss wrote this story with a past and present that just flowed so easily. Not only was I able to get a sense of who Chris and Catherine were now...but experience the young love that bloomed in their past. How innocent and true their love was. It was breathtaking and truly captivating. But their age prevented them from really having a say in being together and it just broke my heart. The obstacles they faced were the same as any teenager in love but it still hurt to see them suffer. For a love so new it was as strong as it could ever be.

Everything before I saw him was fake, and after that moment, my life became real.

Chris only wanted to be the man he felt Catherine deserved but over the years he lost sight of that goal. He lost his way and White Knight was his second chance. While Chris was out conquering the world, Catherine was in her hometown saving hers. Her heart knew no bounds. She was a saint in every sense of the word. She did everything she could to help the people of her town and welcomed anyone and everyone into her home. It was truly admirable.

I’d replaced her tears with laughter. I’d done much without her, and I’d done much for her. But I hadn’t achieved anything until I turned her sadness into joy.

I don’t know how else to put into words how beautiful this story was. Their longing was so palpable - days later and I still feel it. This is definitely my favorite CD Reiss novel.

Yet another book where the Reviews, Ratings and the Drool worthy cover fooled me. This being my First time reading a C.D. Reiss book.
The Teenage Romance between Chris and Catherine was passive and physical only. something that arises and inert for every every teenager out of curiousity and hormones. And the Forbidden factor just fuels their attraction. Hence NO LOVE. Second Chance romance, mean a Second Chance to swoon and redeem what was lost. However here it was too dull.
In short the book was too monotonic, too mind numbing for a romance junkie and very much incomplete.

Okay, so it’s no secret I’m a huge fan of CD Reiss. She has a unique voice that follows no rules. Her writing is spectacular, and I am always blown away by her prose. This book attracted me not only because of her, but because of the twist she put into the trope. She took a second chance to get it right and added some flavor to it. IT WAS PHENOMENAL! Every word. #TRUTH (and I’ve been waiting for Catherine to get her story since King of Code!!)

The book is set in both the present and the past. I’m not saying aspects of the past were merely mentioned, no, the past is an integral and thorough part of this story. It gives the reader a complete insight of Chris and Catherine’s journey. This type of storytelling doesn’t always work because every time the story jumps, so does the reader and it tends to pull you out of the journey in the present. I didn’t feel that with White Knight. I felt it added depth to both their struggles, a bigger picture, clearer.

The only negative for me would be the ending. There is SO much story told within these pages, but the story just ends. BAM. It’s over. It felt rushed. But you know what …. Every one of those love letters made up for that in spades! *swoon*

Short, but oh so Sweet

C.D. Reiss has been on my radar since 2013 and her last few books have shown why. Whether it's Songs of Submission, Hardball or Separation Games, the girl can write a book! Plus the details. Every one of her stories is chock full of so much detail, you feel you can apply for the job her character currently holds. White Knight is no different.

I read King of Code last year, so was familiar with Catherine already and definitely interested in how Chris came into her life. Catherine had a strong front for her towns people all of the time. Only her younger sister Harper knew she cried herself to sleep every night. The state of the town, her life and the love she lost long ago plagued her dreams.

"I'd been one kind of boy and another kind of man."

Christopher Charmichael was the typical boy from the wrong side of the tracks that found himself in love with the girl that lives in the mansion. He worked at her country club and finally in her mother's garden, getting even closer to the beautiful Catherine. Chris couldn't get enough of her, however knew he needed to be more, so he left her.

Ten years go by. Catherine is still single-handedly trying to save her town and Chris is still trying to figure out who he is without her. A tragedy brings him home and things will never be the same. They are grown ups, that have grown apart. Only thier hearts didn't get the message, so it's time to figure things out together.

"My now wants your now. Come forward with me."

The book is well written and while you don't have to read King of Code first, I'm glad I did. As a bonus, there are King and Prince Charming chapters at the end of White Knight, that will suck you right in!

I already knew I was a CD Reiss fan, but with White Knight I had the feeling of becoming an addict...an addict of romance. I needed more! White Knight is a short read that I devoured. I found myself one-clicking King of Codes and wondered, why haven't I read this one before. I did lose sleep, especially with this second chance romance.

In this story, we are given a hero that is from the poor side of the fences. Chris Cartwright falls for a rich girl and feeling that he is not enough for her, he decides to leave and make something of himself. Chris could have it all, the money, the women and the power, it just was never enough. His heart was still with his first love, and now that it's time to go home, will she still be the same girl he walked away from and promised to return to?

Catherine Barrington found a way into my heart and never left. Her heartbreak carried throughout my read and I felt every one of her emotions. I felt the loss of love and the guilt to keep her hometown together. She was like a princess that was willing to give up all that she had for her towns people. Her love for everyone around her is so strong, but the love that she has for Chris ripped me apart. How will she handle his return home, now that she is not the girl he left behind?

White Knight is a perfectly written contemporary romance of two young characters falling in love and having to be torn apart because of social standings. The years apart change them and their surroundings and make them the people they were always meant to be. OMG!!! The emotional pulls of the heart with this story had me in knots.

I 5 Stars Love This Read!

Oh how I wanted to love this book more than I did. I love C.D. Reiss's descriptive and detailed writing - it helps bring the stories to life. But for the life of me, this one just felt like it needed more, if that were even possible.

Christopher and Catherine had a sweet, young romance at 16 years old that was over too soon for them. Fast forward 13 years later and things have changed. Catherine still loves in her childhood home helping those in her community thrive, while Christopher is now rolling in the money in New York from hedge funds he creates. But neither feel completely fulfilled.

There are parts of this book that I really enjoyed - the characters and their small home town feel. Christine hit the nail on the head with this part. Loved everything about it and the feel I got from it. I enjoyed the beginning of this book so much when we were given flashbacks of their past that helped pave the way to where they are today. What I did not like was later in the book where a lot was told that happened and were not given those experiences to live through with the characters. That really hurt in me believing this whole HEA and their ending.

This book didn't quite captivate my attention was much as King of Codes did (both can be read as standalones) and I just had this overall "meh" feeling about it. I felt like I was gipped on a lot later in the book and left me wanting so much more from these two.

For me, this book wasn't great and it wasn't terrible. It's a slow, reminiscent story of young love when adults find each later on in life. Give it a try, you may enjoy it more than I did.

On the trading floor he became the man he knew he could be. Now, it’s time to return.
Rich girl.
Poor boy.
She didn’t care about his money, but he didn’t believe her. Soon after he left, all the money was gone.
Her life is hell.
Now he’s back, and he’s different. Pristine. Gorgeous. Rich.

Poor girl.
Money was never the barrier, until now.

Marked as “not for me”.
She’s rich, he’s poor, he leaves her to go make money, instead of returning to her, he marries someone else. I’m guessing something happens to his wife and somehow he ends back with his original love. I don’t like second chance romance or anything close to that. Definitely don’t like when my MCs were previously married. Plus, during the first 5 minutes he’s talking about how he’s thinking about his first love while his wife’s lipstick is on his cock. Yea – hard pass.

I reviewed an ARC.

Love letters are a lost art. Chris Carmichael reinvented the wheel with his letters to Catherine of the Roses. A young, pure love born of the attraction of opposites and a smile across the room. Her family owned the town and he nurtured the roses.

This story of a sweet, yet forbidden, love had me in heart eyes from the very beginning. Though we caught a glimpse of them in King of Code, White Knight shows us a kind of love and connection that surpasses social status.

Catherine's character was so wonderful. So much more than she thought of herself. So strong despite the tears. The anchor. How many people do you know would carry the weight of everyone on their shoulders like she did?

Chris though? The way he was just over the moon for her regardless of his obstacles. He became the man he thought he had to be to take care of his love.

A few moments brought tears to my eyes, some sad, some downright poetically beautiful. The flow of the story, the characters.

3.5 WHO YOU’RE MEANT TO BE CROWNS

White Knight by CD Reiss is a sweet second chance romance, but it lacked that sexy & often angsty CD Reiss attribute that draws me to her novels.

Chris and Catherine are separated by parents, by wealth, and by social status. In youth, they are consumed by their feelings for each other, and we get to see this with the alternating chapters in points of view and the past and future. Although, they are both likable characters, I felt more consumed by their teen relationship then their adult one. The adult one is more subdued. There are still moments of passion, but they settle into the an easy rhythm that comes with all relationships. This is the part that we don’t often see, though, in romances. This is the happily ever after, watching them form a life for them and what makes them happy.

I feel like I’m torn between loving this book and feeling like it was an okay read. The story itself didn’t grab me. I had a hard time keeping my attention focused on the story, but I love the idea of a love that nurtures you and allows you to grow and that two people can be destined for each other without time or societal expectations separating them forever. I enjoyed the the ending of this book immensely.

If you love sweet romances and second chances, you are going to love White Knight. For me, it just didn’t captivate me like her other novels. The writing, as always was great, so I’m going to chalk it up to the fact that his one just didn’t jive with me.

I have been following this series and was so excited when I found out Catherine's story was next with White Knight and it was a second chance romance!!! I FLOVE Chris hard! These two as a couple have heavy history and a painful fall out. But 10 years later they are back in each other paths.

The drama, the heat factor with the sexiness, and the heartache mixed with love was all the feels I stayed with after I finished this book. C.D. Reiss is a favorite author and truly brings life into her characters. Catherine's and Chris' love story had me falling for them hard. I loved reading White Knight from beginning to the end!1 This book is definitely one-click worthy!!

I just knew when I met Catherine in King of Code that her's and Chris' story was going to be an emotional one. Man, nailed that one. This story warmed my heart and made me cry.

Young lovers torn apart by disapproving parents who let social status dictate everything, Chris sets off to become 'worthy'. Thirteen years later, he's determined it's time for that second chance. Both of their lives are changing, both are unsure, but...that table, his letters, her photos...amazing.

White Knight is contemporary romance at it's finest and just one more reason why this author will always be a one-click favorite.
