"Be sure to thank you soul for wanting my broken one."

Stuart William Knight
Deep in my heart, I knew he belonged to me, but that wounded warrior wasn't letting anyone in. He had his plans and for whatever reason, they didn't allow room for love.

Stuart is was a Marines lifer, but two years of escaping the pain and nightmares that the job brought him left him with an even bigger problem. Retired and broken, he has to fight to get his life back, unwilling to be be defeated by the things that helped him in the past. He sets off to the only place he's ever found any peace, his Uncle's ranch in Montana. Before he sets off on his new mission he makes an memorable impression on a young gypsy, triggering a new path he never knew he wanted or needed.

Mariska Renee Heron
She was sunshine and warmth and fire under my skin.

Mariska has a gift, and it's her trust in her gift that leads her straight to Stuart. She knows that it's crazy, but he needs her and if she can help ease the pain that she sees in his eyes, than it's worth a shot. She knows what she is up against, and leaves it to the stars to help her along the way. It may be a losing battle but she is willing to take the risk.

All they have is a week, before he vows to go, completely set on a path he refuses to give up one dream another dream.
"If you love someone, set him free."

"If he doesn't come back ,hunt him down and kill him."

One to Leave, is my favorite one yet... I love me a tortured hero, and to package him up as a wounded-warrior whose a cowboy at heart, oh my! Stuart has been introduced t us for quite some time now, so he already had my attention and concern. Mariska we met in One to Love, and she was just as sweet and endearing. Mariska although ten years Stuart's junior, she had the strength to go toe-to-toe with this broken soul and give as good as she got. Not willing to back down until the right moment, Stuart is a stubborn man, but he is who he is and as a man he needed to realize what he has right in front of him.

It was a heartfelt-sweet-steamy read a little on the frustrating side, especially when a jealousy rears it's ugly head. I didn't want their story to end, as much as I enjoyed the Epilogue, I wanted more of Stuart and Mariska, but I am told I just need to hold out a bit longer until the next book where they make an appearance. I can't believe we are on book 5 of the series, it honestly doesn't feel like it, each one bringing something different to the table...wonder where the author will take us next?

4 Wounded Warrior Stars

Stuart Knight had locked his heart up tight, but I was determined to break in and steal it.

Let me start by saying that even though the synopsis says it this book can be read as a standalone, and technically it can be, I wouldn't recommend it. Although each book focuses on a different couple throughout this series, there's still a whole lot of character and story development that continues through each book that would be lost on you if you read it on it's own. I started this series with One to Love, and think I did the author a big disservice because there were certain elements in that book that were very much lost on me, until I read this book. And then I got it. I got what Tia is trying to do with this series and these characters and it just made me connect to it and like it that much more.
Don't set your sights on me, Mariska." Hazel eyes burned into mine. "When the time comes, I will leave."

Stuart Knight. Even the name sounds delicious. Oh how I love me those broody and wounded warriors. And Stuart was definitely broody and damaged. As the older brother of Patrick Knight, we don't know much about 'Captain Asshat', aside from the fact that he's a Marine and that's been his whole life...until the one day where that dream was brutally ripped away from him and left him broken, alone, and angry.

When an injury during deployment leaves him unable to continue active duty, Stuart is lost. He's lost to the pain, to the memories, to the nightmares, and to his own demons.

When he realizes just how bad his opiate addiction is, he decides to leave everything for a chance to fix himself in the seclusion of his uncle's cabin in Montana. But before that, he pays one last visit to the gym where he knows his nephew's mother works. This is where Mariska first meets him.
Sometimes it takes more courage to give up one dream for a new one.

Mariska is a free spirit, a gypsy at heart. When the one simply unassuming but intense meeting with Stuart leaves her with vivid nightmares that she's unable to explain but knows they're inexplicably tied to the mysterious man, she makes a spur of the moment decision. Learning that Patrick and his girlfriend will be following Stuart to Montana, she lies about being his friend to follow them there. She doesn't know why she does this, but all she knows is that she has to. She wants to fix him, to help him heal. Stuart, of course, wants nothing to do with the sweet and innocent Mariska. He thinks that his darkness will only taint her.

Thus begins the intricate push and pull dance of Mariska trying to get closer to him and Stuart pushing her away while at the same time unable to fight his connection to her.
If you love someone, set him free."
"If he doesn't come back, hunt him down and kill him."

I have to say that the man really was intense, particularly inside the bedroom. Mariska, though slightly naive and innocent, was still a fantastic heroine. I'm not sure exactly why, but there was just something about her that just worked for me when usually it wouldn't. Maybe it was her determination to heal Stuart?

While the book focuses on the developing relationship between Stuart and Mariska, it does also have a number of other POVS. This is the part that would definitely be lost on the reader that's just going into this book without reading the others. There's a lot of continuing story development that takes place here, and reading the series in order would help you connect to that more. Though I have to say that I really didn't understand the inclusion of Nikki's POV in the very beginning. Considering that I wanted to punch her in the throat toward the end, it really didn't help. but perhaps the author has a grander plan for her.

I enjoyed this book much more than One to Love. It was emotional, at times steamy and at times sweet. A fantastic combination. But there was just a little something missing for me for it to be that perfect 5 star read. That's not to say it wasn't a solid 4 star, because it truly was. The epilogue was wonderful and I love how Tia gives you a satisfactory HEA while still giving you just enough of a tease to leave you begging for the next book.
Be sure to thank your soul for wanting my broken one."
"You weren't broken. You only needed a safe place to run free."

Definitely looking forward to the next installment and to see exactly what this big secret that Derek is hiding that could cost him everything.

4 Sometimes We are Fated that Way Stars
* * * * Warning, a LONG Review
My addiction to Tia Louise's Alpha Men continues and with this entry...brooding, tortured, protective, self-sacrificing Stuart is front and center. This is a man who wanted to live up to the image of his father but not be his father in practice.
The man was a Marine lifer, which is what Stuart feels is his calling but as a Marine for life, he saw his father away from his mother. The Father was not there when he was needed time and time again. So he will protect; he will go to the front lines and guide men, be with his brothers in arms, and willingly sacrifice himself if need be.

It was there in the desert where he met Derek; he became his brother. On the last day of Derek's service, fate intervened. Both were attacked and Stuart carried the injured Derek on his back, trying to reach the rest of the troops gearing to leave. Both of them were hit but it was Stuart who somehow got Derek close to a place of safety, only to be hit again. When he regained consciousness, he learned of Derek's survival. He also learned his body was damaged beyond repair and would not recover enough to return to active duty.

Stuart worked his body to the level close to his best...but no convincing the Marines he could continue to serve. He turned to Private Detail, watching and protecting others as needed in the desert but his pain had not vanished physically or mentally. His world now included nightmares reliving his trying to protect Derek and failing every time. That failure hurt more than the pain in his leg and he ended up drinking and taking strong pills to numb himself.

Oh, his self-medication worked for a while but eventually, all addicts either continue or have a day of reckoning. It took two years but Stuart finally moved toward figuring out what he had been doing wasn't working. He came back to the company he and Derek started and thought he would muscle his way through weaning off the pills on his own. Quickly, he discovered this was not happening...he made a decision to go where he knew he would have the support and understanding of this. He decided to get out to the Montana ranch. He needed to make one stop first, though.

Stuart went to the gym where his brother Patrick's past relationship was. Kenny was the mother of Lenny, the son his brother had with her. They did not work out but they shared this amazing boy and Stuart wanted him to have the Distinguished Service Medal his father had earned. He no longer felt worthy of it. He entered and met with Kenny and another woman was by her side. This beauty with dark hair, hazel sparkling eyes, and calmness he wanted to follow. When she saw he was needing to talk seriously with Kenny, she stepped away and mentioned she would make him a smoothie... her specialty.

Stuart needed to leave, he explained he didn't want any of his friends or family following him He was going to his uncle's where he knew he would be able to handle this. Knowing he said too much, he was halfway out the door when Mariska reached out and stopped him. She handed him the soothing drink and in the moment of hands touching, a vision of the life Stuart saw with her happened...all the ways he could love her, have her with his child, and know she would be his safe place.

Stunned for a moment, Stuart shook it off with the knowledge it was the drugs running through his body. The leftovers messing with his mind. Parting from her was difficult but he climbed in the car and went on his way, out to the ranch, praying he was going to make it there in time.

Mariska would not have laughed at Stuart if he had revealed how he felt near her or what had come over him. She would never think those feelings and thoughts had anything to do with drugs or drink. She had been having visions since a child and her grandma explained how to keep her mind open and nurture them. She was taught to keep a dream diary and every time she dreamed something in detail, she should write it down. So when the person came to her, she could help. All of her dreams, though, were about others, she was never in any of them until after she met Stuart.

Mariska woke with a start; she had been in the desert... hurt, shot, and dragging another to safety. She needed to get him to safety but then couldn't. The pain was so intense and she was calling out to get this other saved...she needed to save him...and then woke.

What was this...never in all of her dreams had she ever been in any of them. As she wrote for what seemed like hours, all she could think was this had serious meaning for her.

Days went by and the nightmare/dreams continued; Kenny noticed how drawn her friend's face was... how she needed rest. They talked about what was happening, it was their way for that was how close they were. It was not surprising when Derek came striding in wanting to talk with Kenny. She told him she had seen Stuart and he mentioned he was going to his uncle out West. Derek sighed with relief and mentioned he would be going out there soon. In fact, the whole family was going to be there for Thanksgiving... so he would see her again.

This news brought Mariska to the moment where she needed to make a decision; she had had some type of connection with Stuart... more than just the nightmares. It happened when their hands touched, when they looked into each other eyes, she felt she could heal him and he would become her home. She thought about this and the risk was worth the gain. She would go out to Montana to be with Stuart somehow.

Derek and Patrick, Stuart's brother flew out to Montana to see what exactly was going on. Patrick knew to stay away from his brother, they never got along, but he also loved him and wanted to support him. When Bill came out to greet them, he was very glad they were there. Stuart had gone out to a shack to ride out the withdrawals and Bill was concerned because of the weather and the shape Stuart was in.

Years ago Bill had battled his own demons and won. He knew the process; was worried. The men rode out and found Stuart by a campfire, not well at all. With provision, Derek settled in to be there with his brother in arms. The talking, the truths helped but the main thing Stuart was able to say when his body would allow him was he was a protector, a loner, and he would be this always no love relationship, no children....he was born to serve, to fight for others.

Stuart was starting to feel better and by the time Thanksgiving was near...he was back in the ranch away from the shack. He was helping his uncle on the ranch with the horses feeling like he was worth a bit more than before. Mariska was floating in his mind, this woman would come to him as visions at night and he had to fight his desires for her.

Mariska was tired of dreams and wanting Stuart. She decided to make the leap; she arranged to fly out with Patrick and Elaine. She spent the money, was in the seat on the plane, made friends with Elaine, and then it hit her as she was riding in the truck to the ranch.

What the hell had she done????

Was she crazy???

Must be because here she was being introduced as Elaine's pal to everyone there.

Stuart came out from the kitchen, took one look at her, and walked away. He was stunned.

These two were very careful around each other until she bumped into him in the barn spooking a horse. Stuart in full protective mode blocked her with his body, holding her away from the animal.

That was it...they both felt it...Again, Stuart needed to look out for her and this time they kissed. From there... Stuart stopped fighting the attraction.

This tale was woven with all the threads to hold it together... there was a need for both characters to fight for this relationship. Stuart needed to recognize the life he had planned was not going to happen and open his mind to adapting to something different. He was worth it. Mariska proved her merit... she fought hard and clean...no dirty tricks or manipulations...but she also stood her ground even when it was painful for her and Stuart.

I am so please I took the time to read this. This was a lovely part of the series and most recent books have had these characters in them as well as future books promising more. Reading the entire series is not necessary for this one; however, it would give some added depth to the other characters.

Tia Louise writes for my sweet spot; she does hot, blazing, sexy times with men you wish you knew and women you probably would hang with... What more could you want...
Oh, I know...More books, please.

Well, Since writing this review, Ms. Louise has kept me busy. Here is the entire series and it is so worth your time, enjoy!

Stuart Knight aka Captain Asshat :)) is a 36 yr. old marine whose career was cut short when he was forced to retire after being injured in a grenade blast. After years of active duty, and working for a private security company overseas, Stuart returns to the U.S. to work at Alexander-Knight, a company he started with his best friend & partner Derek. They served together in the marines, and Derek is like a brother to him. He moves into Derek's condo, and attempts to work in the office, but just isn't satisfied rejoining the firm. His life is a mess right now, and he decides he needs to get away for a while.

 photo 81c237d5-b2c6-4c9c-9472-c236fc4119e5.jpg

Stuart decides to head to Montana to his uncle Bill's ranch. It's quiet and relaxing, and he really needs someplace to go, & get himself together, and back on the right path. He has been in a bad place emotionally & physically since the explosion. He has trouble sleeping, suffers from nightmares, flashbacks, and worst of all withdrawls. He is in horrible pain, but is determined to beat his addiction before it kills him.

 photo 0350e7a7-185c-4719-94be-88f9f6bfd663.jpg

Before Stuart leaves town he makes a stop, and crosses paths with a woman named Mariska Heron. She is a beautiful 26 yr. old woman 10 years younger than him. They both feel an instant connection the second their eyes meet. Stuart feels a sudden closeness and longing for her that is startling to him, and he doesn't understand it. Women have always just been a distraction in his life. His true calling has always been to be a marine, and he would do anything to get back to the desert. He felt he had many more years left of service in him.

 photo 5e4bf6e9-740e-465c-8045-6cda419b3af0.jpg

Mariska see's something haunted in Stuart's eyes, and then begins having these dreams about him. She has always had a gift and listened to her instincts. After Stuart's best friend and brother come around town looking for him, Mariska reveals to them he mentioned he was heading to Montana. Mariska follows her heart, and impulsively decides to head to Montana as well to check on Stuart, who is pretty much a stranger to her. She just feels so connected to him. She can't explain it, but she feels this intense need to see him, and at the same time feels deep down he needs her too.

 photo c4cfd540-3396-46e7-84a1-07192511d030.jpg

When Mariska arrives, Stuart is just as delicious as she remembers. He is still fighting his inner battles, but now also confused with Mariska there. He doesn't know what to do with these possessive feelings, and the extreme attraction he feels for her. He views her as a distraction, and tries to fight the pull he feels, but he just can't resist her. At the same time, the more Mariska is around Stuart, the more she feels they are truly meant to be together.

 photo ff12af19-562a-4c2e-9fb1-f3feb32baf90.jpg

When they finally give in to the undeniable chemistry between them... just WOW!!! We get some yummy sexytime! I have been excited for Stuart's book since we got a glimpse of him in the last book. Nothing like a hot marine/cowboy in need of some love & attention! :D

 photo d032a85f-11b5-4d6e-ab8a-631b4d58e2ec.jpg

I really enjoyed this couple & loved we get all the other couples too. The epilogue of Patrick & Elaine's wedding was a fabulous addition as well! This book was about love at first sight, & following your heart, & taking chances! Another spectacular book by Tia Louise! :))

-She intoxicated me like nothing I'd ever experienced.

-"Have I ever told you what your eyes do to me?"

-"They're the color of sunset in Montana."

4 Stars!

-- One to Leave is a part of the series, yet it can be read as a standalone. Although, I suggest. you read the whole series!

Stuart Knight. He's marine. His whole life is focused on being loyal to his country - He was born to serve and protect. That's all there to Stuart.. until one day on a battle field he got pretty injured - He would been forced to retire. Which left him wounded physically and emotionally.

Personally, I enjoy reading about characters who are damaged, who buries their pain, and nightmares in bad habits. who think there is nothing in this life worth to live for anymore.. it gives the story an extra penchant for me. (yes. i'm weird!)
Stuart, is definitely fits in the category. So.. He's yummy.

Mariska. I really liked her! She has a bubbly personality, one you call her a dear friend. she might tend to make some "unsuitable" plans.. but, man. when those plans lead to an epic results...

Before Stuart decides to simply leave everything behind, and escape to his childhood place. - his uncle's cabin. he drops by at the gym where his nephew's mother works. and, of course, Marishka happens to be working there. Their quickie encounter awakened something in their heart. But, Mariska couldn't simply let it go. with her having those strange, vivid nightmares - which, makes her think of Stuart. Mariska knows Stuart needs her, even though it sounds crazy. She wants to do everything that can ease the pain and anger in Stuart.

description

But can Mariska be able to change Stuart dream -where his dream is in the desert.?!...

This book. is about lost, new dreams. - it shows you, that, it's okay to give up on something that you always thought that's the only thing that will ever be there in your life... take opportunities. you might never know..

It's very well presented. the writing is really good. and just love how the author gives you those endings!.. The epilogue was enchanting. loved every bits of it.

4.25 Never Leave Stars!

So Ms. Tia Louise has done it to me again. She has held me captive in her One to Hold Series thus devouring a book in one sitting! This series has had amazing heat with just the right amount angst. While each book is standalone, she continues to build on the established relationships and never leaves the others behind! (thank you for that epilogue!) I will freely admit that Derek and Melissa still continue to rule this series for me, but here she brings about a new approach to her characters in the story of Stuart and Mariska.

Stuart Knight…the Marine…the broken soldier...

His brief appearance in One to Protect boggled me. I had to know his story. In just the brief time he appeared he was fire. Dark and damaged yet strong and dominant.

Mariska took notice...

She is light and fire in a small package. She puts out positive energy with every move and one look at Stuart has her feeling a pull…a want…a need to reach out.

But this man is running from constant pain. His mind caught in the flames and the destruction he lived overseas. He has lost his identity as he lost his chance to “die for his country.” His life path altered…can he find a reason to breath?

What if Mariska took a risk? What if she followed her gut and chased a “feeling”? What if she was the path Stuart was to follow? Perhaps this unconventional and fairly crazy quest to connect with a sexy yet broken man could be something.

I admit that I “got” Stuart and Mariska. I applaud Tia Louise for keeping Stuart and Mariska strangers even in their passionate and off the charts hot coming together. He wanted her…hell he would want anything to drown his pain. But how could ever be more than just this man at this brief moment. As naïve as Markiska was, she was willing to give anything for him to find comfort…

This story is not a quick meet, fall in bed, fall in love. It is more of a short period of two people finding everything they ever wanted or needed when completely immersed in one another. If intimacy was the only way they could connect, well then they were attached deep down to their souls!

But all good things end right? Sometimes, even when it is written in the stars, even when it is fated…there is still ONE TO LEAVE~ Kudos Tia Louise for another amazing installment in this series!

4 - "All of this... it's a lot to take in." Stars!

I love this series, and I love Tia Louise's writing of it. Each and every character brings a little something to the mix that the others do not have and as a whole, you have a wonderfully entertaining and eclectic mix of people, all of which you fall a little in love with as their stories are told, and the series as a whole progresses.

"So much has happened, and not enough."

It is pretty safe to say I will never get bored of reading each of the episodes in the lives of Derek, Patrick, Melissa, Elaine, as well as Kenny and Slayde and now Stuart and Mariska that Tia has given her readers, and One to Leave is no exception. Although not my favorite book, I still really enjoyed it.

"When I go, I go alone."

Main reason being for me is that, I have waited an awfully long time to meet and get to know the elusive Stuart Knight, and although this is his and Mariska's story an awful lot of other stories are also being played out around theirs in this book. Not a bad thing and it offers great development to the series as a whole. But I still don't feel I know Stuart as well as I want too, and the lesser focus on him in this book for the group as a whole I think bears a little responsibility for that. Although Knowing the imagination of Ms. Louise, I am hoping against hope that this is because there will be another book involving this couple more 'intimately' in the future!

As I said, I still love this series. Tia nailed the banter between Derek, Patrick and Stuart, and it was great to see a little more of the dynamic between the Knight brothers as well as the group as a whole with the inclusion of Kenny, Slayde and Mariska.

"I want to know you better. That's all."

Stuart Knight, much like Derek Alexander is a man of many facets, he is definitely a guy who likes to be in charge, and I liked the mix of his dominance with Mariska's slightly freer spirit. She didn't shy away from standing up to him, or giving him a run for his money though and I really liked that. The inclusion of Nikki into this story pissed me off a bit, but again I expect this is something to do with the author's 'bigger picture' of which her readers quite rightly aren't fully privy to as yet!

I do hope that we get to see more of this couple in more closer conditions in a future book from the series. I also have to give Tia the medal for a longest epilogue I have read in a book so far, she could have almost marketed it as a novella if she had been of a mind to!

"Make a wish." ... "Make it for me."

My wish, has pretty much been granted, One to Save is due in the spring, I get more Derek and Melissa, and I just know I am going to be dragged through the emotional wringer with this one. My second wish, because I am a greedy reader, more Stuart Knight as well, he is a guy whose surface has barely been scratched, and I want to go deep... balls deep with this guy.

I know some people were bothered by "improbable setting" where the heroine just followed the hero after meeting him for two minutes and then having some dreams about him... Well, you know what, the author made totally believe that motivation!

And as soon as they reconnected again, sparks flew and I was in for a hot and emotional ride. Because... wounded grumpy ex-marine meets bubbly quirky sunshine artist - do I need to say more?!

Do love at first sight exist? If you met a stranger in passing and felt an instant magnetic pull to him, would you be willing to drop everything and stand in his doorstep? They say love can make you do crazy things so how far would you go? And in Tia Louise’s 5th installment, One to Leave, be prepared for one magical romantic and unforgettable read. In this beautiful, touching, and riveting story of two strangers who are drawn to one another by the forces of fate, love begins to bloom and find meaning for Stuart Knight, a former Marine. In this spellbinding book, Ms. Louise reminds us all that sometimes you have to trust your heart and let it lead you to a place you least expect. In the words of Anais Nin, 'You don't find love, it finds you. It's got a little bit to do with destiny, fate, and what's written in in the stars.' And in One to Leave, Tia Louise will take you down a journey where connections, fate, destiny, love, family and friendship are all intertwined.

#OTLeave

Stuart Knight is a former Marine, who wanted to continue his service to his country but due to an accident that left him wounded, he was forced to resign. Struggling with the acceptance and the onset of pain from his injuries, Stuart deals with his pain with self-medication of alcohol and abuse of painkillers. He also suffers with a bit of PTSD. He knew what he wanted to was to serve and protect his country and so now he feels a bit lost and is in a downward spiral. So when he decides, enough is enough and wants to fix his life, he escapes to the one place he found solace and peace, which happens to be in his uncle’s ranch in Montana.

In one brief passing, Mariska Heron met Stuart Knight. In that one moment, an instant magnetic pull and connection was made. Mariska couldn’t explain it, she knew she had to help Stuart. Mariska is a special gifted woman, who has these special dreams. In one of her dreams, she felt a connection to Stuart and the pain he was suffering. From that moment, she made one spontaneous trip to visit him in Montana. Call it crazy, but Mariska knew there were invisible ties connecting to her and Stuart.

#OTLeave3

When Mariska arrived in Montana tagging along with Patrick’s fiance, Elaine, she started to have doubts of her crazy idea. But luckily for her, she was able to gain courage and slowly began a friendship with Stuart. What Mariska didn’t expect was that Stuart also felt that connection and draw when they first met in passing. For Stuart, he couldn’t explain why he suddenly envisioned Mariska as the one. For so long, his life was to protect and love his country and now he only wants to protect Mariska. Will Stuart be able to let Mariska into his guarded heart? Stuart is a man known not to stay long, can Mariska give him a reason to stay and not leave?

The connection of Mariska and Stuart was one of those bonds and invisible ties that couldn’t be explained but only felt. From the first page to the last page, I loved every word, kiss, sensual touch and steam that was written. Ms. Louise wrote a story that magically hooked you and instantly you felt every raw emotion and chemistry between Stuart, Mariska, and the secondary characters. In this hot sensual and touching book, I loved how beautifully Ms. Louise written a story that captured my full attention and left me holding onto my breath on the beauty of destiny and fate. What I truly love about this book was the underlying theme of fate, destiny and love. Stuart and Mariska's love were written in the stars and all that separated them was time. And when they finally read the map within their heart, they were able to find their way back to one another. Like the stars that shine bright, it led Stuart Knight out of the darkness and found his way home to Mariska Heron.

#OTL4

So if you are looking for a book that will make you feel the LOVE then I highly suggest you read One to Leave. This book had a great balance of chemistry, family, friendship, and romance integrated into the story-line. This book definitely left me with a big smile on my face after reading this story. I couldn’t get enough of Mariska, Stuart, Patrick, Elaine, Kenny, Slayde, Melissa and Derek. I absolutely love that Tia Louise was able to capture the raw vulnerability of each of the characters’ personality allowing the readers to feel like these group of characters are genuine and real. One to Leave is another great installment to the series One to Hold.

I love angry heroes. I love tough guys. I love alpha males. Oh, and cowboys....love those too. So yeah...I loved Stuart. He's got one hell of a background and I couldn't help but feel the need to hug him and hold him and make everything better.

Tia Louise channeled her inner romantic suspense author with the opening scene of the book. She brought us to a war zone, where two friends and comrades are fighting for their lives. Stuart is a career Marine...his work is his life, and he feels like he's doing what he's been put on earth to do. So when an injury brings him down and he can't do his job, it's easy to numb the physical pain. Now addicted to the pills that took the edge off, Stuart tries grasping for sobriety while still hurting...both physically and emotionally. On his way out to his uncle's ranch, he has a chance encounter with Mariska, and their connection is instant and powerful. But Stuart is on a mission, and starting a relationship with a gorgeous gypsy woman isn't in his plans.

Mariska's dreams become filled with fear and pain. Though she's never actually been in the middle of gunfire, the realistic nature of her nightmares leads her to believe that they are a reality for someone. And she can't seem to get the haunted eyes of the beautiful but haggard Marine out of her head. Led by an intuition she can't help but listen to and helped by his friends and family, Mariska follows Stuart out to the cabin where he has isolated himself.

Stuart is under the impression that Mariska is a friend of a friend and that their meeting is coincidence. As her presence eases something inside him, and he begins to feel something stronger than the gnawing pain of his past, Stuart's lonesome nature begins to change and he begins to fall for the dark haired woman with healing hands.

As with the other book by Tia Louise that I've read, I feel like these characters are easy to connect with. There is a bit of a mystical element, what with Mariska's dreams sort of leading her to Stuart, but the author doesn't hit you over the head with it. For me, the focal point of the story is Stuart's demons. And I love that she doesn't shy away from making his pain pill addiction a present problem. Usually, if an author goes there, they make is something part of their character's shameful past. But this isn't shameful. Stuart is only human. And his problems don't make him any less of a man. In fact, his determination and superhuman effort to overcome adversity makes him a bigger hero in my eyes.

The fact that this story highlights the importance of human touch and compassion is what made me love it. Yes, it's a love story. But it wasn't cheesy romance. People need a loving touch. They need compassion, and they need someone to give them tough love sometimes. Stuart's uncle is awesome for being the stoic, quiet voice of reason and for allowing Stuart to have a place of solace. His brother, even though there is bad blood between them, must love him an awful lot, and I loved that he was just there for Stuart, regardless of whether Stuart wanted him there. His best friend and commanding officer upended his life to help his buddy out. What a great group to have around you in a time of need!

The setting was perfect and I was surprised and pleased that the simple pleasures in life were highlighted. I get annoyed when an author goes over the top honky tonk just because their story has a cowboy in it. Not the case here. Yes, there are horses and cattle and a ranch, but the focus wasn't on yee-hawing. It was on the peace and quiet, the hard work, the isolation of a ranch. It was big open skies and ice-cold swimming holes and a campfire.

I have to mention the sex just because it was so smoking hot. Mariska's got that healing touch, and it opened the door to other kinds of touches. Knowing that Stuart was already a frustrated tough guy, I'm not sure why I was so surprised at how intense and bossy he was in bed. This was a good thing. A very, very, very good thing. When he tells Mariska to "take it off," I swear I very nearly stood up and started stripping. So. Hot.

This was a well balanced romance with super sexy times and a focus on family, friends, and healing. It shows how versatile this author can be within her contemporary genre. Wonderfully done. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Holly Hotness...there is nothing better that one angry Marine.

Meet Stuart, the Captain Asshat.

After years of active duty, one severe contusion and a few doses of medications too much he has a choice to make that is about to change his life forever.

Devastated by the turn of events and constant pain he takes as some of us may say the coward way out and gets away to hide his struggle and deal with the repercussions of drug withdrawal symptoms.

Here comes the "but":
He did not predict that one pair of brown eyes will bring him down to his knees.
One unique package of sweet and sinful.
And her name is Mariska.

The story develops with a high level of anticipation and constant anger simmering just under the surface.
And the craving...

Guess which one gets under his skin...and stays for good...

Stand-alone? Forget it. The way this book is written is so confusing. Every character gets multiple POVs, some more than others. In fact, the book starts off with Nikki, a one-night stand of Stuart. But there is more...Stuart's best friend, Derek, gets a chapter, also Stuart's brother, Patrick, and don't forget Stuart's uncle. (There are more female POVs too). Because of this, it was hard for me to really get to know the lead characters. Plus I found their romance a little unbelievable. Then there was the Mariska. This chick is so clingy and weird. Who chases after a guy you talked for a minute? Give me a break.
Once again, the insta-lust/love didn't work out for me. I was BORED the whole time.

One To Leave = Stuart and Mariska = hot, hot, hot!!!

It's book 5 and this series continues to go from strength to strength. After loving Kenny and Slayde's story so much I was worried that Stuart and Mariska's story may pale into insignificance but I needn't have worried, Stuart was ready to lift my expectations!

I swear Tia's writing gets hotter and hotter and some of the scenes *phew* were extremely spicy. I was on the fence about calling Tia an erotic romance writer before, choosing instead to think of her books as more adult romance, but One To Leave definitely takes the eroticism of her writing to another level.

So, Stuart and Mariska, well there's a partnership we were always destined to enjoy. From the teaser in One To Love, we were left questioning who this broken man is and who can possibly save him. Enter Mariska. From the brief moment they shared at the gym, Stuart and Mariska can't stop thinking about each other but their lives are heading in different directions.

Stuart is still coming to terms with his recovery and the implications of his treatment and heads to his uncle's to try to recover but Derek and Patrick are suspicious and head out after him. Derek finds Stuart in need of his support and spending the week together they try to piece Stuart's life back together again.

Mariska can 't stop thinking about Stuart and when her dreams start to become mysterious she does what she thinks has to be done and she heads in Stuart's direction.

Stuart and Mariska are immediately attracted to one another once again but they question the power in their feelings for one another. Their relationship doesn't run smoothly though as Stuart feels that he has unfinished business in the desert and pushing and pulling at Mariska's heart strings he inadvetently pushes her away, back home.

It's not long though before Stuart realises the error of his ways and decides to seek out his one true love, Mariska.

This is a special story and one that certainly had its ups and downs. I especially love the way these two characters souls called out to each other.

"I saw you and my soul came to life inside me." ~Mariska

The bond shared between Stuart and Mariska goes so deep that their dreams are intertwined and who is about to refuse them their HEA.

Ok Seriously, who doesn't love a hot, sexy cowboy??! Add to that the fact that he is a dark brooding military man and you have automatic deliciousness!!!!

One to Leave is book five in this wonderful sexy series!! Those of you that know me know that Derek Alexander is my ULTIMATE BOOK BOYFRIEND and the moment I met Derek I was instantly in love with the OTH Series and all of the sexy men that have come with it, as well as their amazing women!

I say all that to say Stuart is one sexy, brooding cowboy - who is also a military hero!! That said, Stuart is fighting some massive demons and being home on leave his only thought is getting back over seas to combat. In his mind he is never going to settle down, when it comes to serving his country he is all in!

That is until Mariska comes along! Mariska takes it upon herself to barge right into Stuart's life, whether he wants it or not, and help him overcome his demons. Of course all the while, working on getting Stuart to fall in love with her. She is exactly what he needs, even if he doesn't know it yet.

Deep in my heart, I knew he belonged to me, but that wounded warrior wasn't letting anyone in. He had his plans and for whatever reason, they didn't allow room for love.

Good News though...There is a yummy HEA! It's a bit hard earned but soooo worth the pain of getting there!!

The BEST One To Hold novel to date! Stuart not only broke my heart, but carefully mended it back together. This Marine turned Cowboy is battling more than one addiction. And one of them holds the power to break his heart and damage his soul.

Tia Louise knows just what buttons to push when it comes to this series. I came in late in the game in her One To Hold series, but I am finally caught up, and I gotta say, she raises the bar with each new addition. I've been craving Stuart's story for as long as I can remember, and to finally have my hands on it is bitter-sweet. This sexy, stubborn, protective cowboy made me swoon with every word that came out of his mouth. He is a broken man, and you just want to reach inside the book and console him, heal him, protect his heart. Mariska is the missing piece to his damaged soul. She is PERFECT for him, so PERFECT, that I was cheering her on every step of the way. The fact that these two met each other at a glance, but the connection was instant, so visceral, so demanding that they couldn't get each other out of their heads, was such a beautiful thing.

Stuart conquered one addiction, just to be drawn into another. Mariska was an addiction he didn't want to beat, an addiction he wanted to bow down to, an addiction that he would gladly let kill him, if it meant he got just one taste. It's so intense, surreal, and it still gives me the goosebumps every time I think of their chemistry. Spanking, pulling hair, sexy growls, and hearty demands, just gives you a little taste as to what this sexy man is capable of.

A man looking for redemption finds the one thing that makes him feel alive again, makes his heart beat again, lets him imagine a life without demons, darkness, and regret. Mariska is his light, and he will bask in it as long as she lets him.

ONE TO LEAVE can be read as a standalone, but boy are you missing out if you don't instantly pick up the rest of this series! You will not regret it!

Heart Stopping! Page Turning! Burning Passion!
Utterly mind blowing, One to Leave is the latest release from Tia Louise-It is steamy, electrifying, and heart wrenching. One to Leave is written in several points of view giving the reader deeper sights in each of the characters which we love.

Stuart is a broken man who is as edgy as he is gorgeous with a deep yearning and determination to get back to his life mission of protecting his country. Stuart spends time at his uncles trying to fight an internal battle when unwelcome family and friends show up to help him overcome his demons. Determined to get back to his dream, Stuart starts to question if his dreams can be altered and still find the peace and honor he craves. Stuart has to decide if he is willing to forsake his friends, family, and even love in his life ambition.

Mariska is a young, stunning, mystic, old soul who takes a chance on love. One quick meeting with a stranger give the beautiful woman the courage follow her dreams to a place where her heart leads her. She constructs a web of deceit in order to reach a tortured soul who haunts not only her dreams but her mind.
As love began to blossom, the lies are revealed causing Mariska to finally open her heart exposing the real reason why she followed the stranger. Determined to break through, she is determined to save the tortured and broken soul that enters her dreams at night. Will the truth being revealed cause the man to run or will she be able to convince him that her intentions were not to hurt but help him.

Tia gives us another book full of emotions, heartache and steamy moments that the One to Hold series continues to deliver. One to Leave is not different. I Love this book, series and Tia Louise. She is a very talented writer, who not only give her readers alpha men, but alpha men which varied personalities. I cannot wait for the next book in the series, One to Save.

4.5 “captain asshat” Stars!

Ok, so I am a little mad at myself. Mad that I haven’t stayed up to date on this series!! I have a lot of catching up to do. Oh, and by the way…I am totally in love with Stuart. Hehe :) So, I read the first book in this series many, many moons ago, and then life got in the way. Now here I am picking up the 5TH book and loving it.

“Sometimes it takes more courage to give up one dream for a new one.”

Stuart is rough and gruff at times, but yet such a caring person deep down. And, of course, HOT!! I wanted to help him, just as Mariska did. And in the same ways she did ;) Their connection touches you. It’s not sweet, and it’s not romantic, it’s just moving….ugh, I don’t think that’s the right word for it, but that will have to do!

“Coming here like this was the craziest thing I’d ever done in my entire life, and now I’d have to face the consequences.”

I love how head strong and mature Mariska is. She knew what had to be done and she stuck with it, even when she just wanted to cave in to him. And Stuart, he knew in his heart what the right answer was, but you know how guys are….stubborn!!

“When was the last time I’d felt this way? Shit, for that matter, had I ever felt this way?”

So as you can see, this story is about stubborn versus stubborn!! And if there isn’t enough going on with those two, you still get a lot about the rest of the crew. Which brings me back to the fact that I must get to reading the previous books in the series. I did get lost a few times during One To Leave, and REALLY wanted to know how a few things happened.

This story was definitely a reminder to me that I thoroughly enjoy this author’s writing style. Sexy cowboys, independent women, and a whole lot of sweet and steamy scenes is my kind of story. I recommend the series to all…but don’t be an idiot like me and read them out of order ;)

(Stuart & Mariska)

And the Story continues, Stuart a damaged yet struggling marine with the dedication he lives for. Is fighting the Demons of his past. A horrific scene in combat, put everything in his life on hold.
Mariska a gypsy free spirit with a heart of gold, who believed in life and the beyond. A hippy at heart, but she would risk it all for the man that changed her life with one touch. She is strong, brave and would risk it all for true love.

Stuart had just met his match. When a pair of hazel eyes knocks you on your ass, and you realize it's time to stop running. Or will their strong will and pride stand in the way?
I loved this book, I actually read a chapter over again just for the rush. This books gives and gives, you can’t put it down, a sexy, emotional, page turner that has serious undertones. You will not go wrong with this series.

Great writing, the character explode off the page, you live the story, you are in the story. Very talented writer, with a flair for originality!

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. This is Stuart's Story at the end of One to Love we get a hint of something going on with Stuart but until this book we don't fully understand it. In the first book One to Hold we find out the Derek has a partner that works out in the field instead of in the office. This partner is Stuart they started the security company together after something happened that brought them both back from their military service oversea's.

In One to Leave we finally find out what really happened to them both that will have Derek taking off to help his old friend and business partner. Derek is also sure if he leaves things to Patrick (Stuarts brother and the person to work for the security company) they will kill one another. In one to Leave we also meet Mariska she is different than the other woman we have met in this series. She is not a strong willed for one. She does take risks but she sneaks into these people's hearts instead of bulldozing in. Mariska has some of her own secrets which I will let you read to find out what they are.

This is a great book about love, acceptance of who you are and where you are suppose to be, and also knowing when you need help you are not weak when you reach for it. I would recommend this book and do I would say if you have not read the others in this series there will be secrets revealed if you don't read them first. However this is an amazing book and I would recommend you get your copy as soon as it is released.

My Rating:

4.5

Favorite Quotes:

“He might color outside the lines, but he manages to turn it around and come out on top. He's a good man.”

“My need to protect her was overwhelming. I'd never felt anything like it. She was sunshine and warmth and fire under my skin.”

“Elaine's voice grew wistful, 'If you love someone, set him free.' ... 'If he doesn't come back, hunt him down and kill him.'”

“He kissed me like I was a country to be liberated, and he was he Marine for the job.”

“I saw you and my soul came to live inside me.”

“The first time I saw you in Arizona, I knew you were something special. Only, I thought it would just be a week-long special.”

My Review:

This was my first time reading Tia Louise, and I don't know what took me so long – I could kick myself. It was well-written, emotive, insightful, descriptive, and held my attention beginning to end. I am an instant fan. The sensual scenes were volcanically hot and had me gasping to catch my breath. Written with a melancholy air, this piece was frequently angsty, occasionally humorous, and continually engaging. I am hooked. I want to go backward in the series and read them all. Tia Louise currently holds the top spot on my favorites list.

I must say that I truly love this series that Tia brings to us!

Stuart Knight is a troubled man. He has served his country as a marine and has certainly seen his share of tragedy and humanity at it's worst.
The fight for freedom has left him a constant battle within himself. He needs to get away and try to heal. He feels that he is broken and he may need more help than he thinks and it may come from the strangest place.
Mariska Heron is a beautiful, sensitive caring women. The day she crosses paths with Stuart will stand out not only in her mind but in her dreams. She has no idea why she feels this pull toward him but she is unable to resist it. The moment they reconnect it is a beautiful dance of trust, acceptance, healing and hopefully love. Stuart may not be able to help himself but Mariska may be just what he needs and more.
It is such a beautiful journey that Tia has taken us on!!!

A cowboy setting and a man with deep secrets...what could be sexier?

This review is from: One to Leave (One to Hold Book 5)

It's no secret I'm a fan of this series. I love all the characters. They're all so complex with their own individual stories. One to Leave was no exception. Stuart has issues that only the love of the right woman can help heal. The rustic cowboy setting is super sexy and as always I love the banter and friendships that evolve! 5 stars for the entire ONE TO HOLD series!!! Don't miss ONE TO LEAVE!

So Love the writing style Ms Louis has. Her characters seem to catch your imagine and your breath by their actions & looks. The story is fresh with just enough angst to make you go WHF??? If you Love Cowboys, Stuart is your man and Mariska is just the little minx to help him heal from his demons.
I was given an ARC but I am so willing to pay for these books! and I am looking forward to any and all books Ms Louis writes

I'm a huge fan of Tia Louise's One to Hold series. All of her heroes and heroines are strong and resilient; they fight for what they want every step of the way, and they never allow anyone or anything to stand in their way. Derek and Melissa, Patrick and Elaine, and Slayde and Kenny have all had to work through their pasts and overcome present obstacles in order to be together, and they've all done it because they knew they didn't have a choice - their lives are far better and mean more now that they've found their other half.

As much as I've loved every single one of the stories before One to Leave, I knew going in to Stuart Knight's story that it was going to leave a mark on me more than the others have. There's something about the Wounded Warrior or Captain Asshat as he's so endearingly called that made me want to wrap my arms around him and never let him go since his scene with Kenny in One to Love.

Stuart's this tough, controlled man who right now has no control over his life because his addiction and his memories have commanded his every move. He's lost his honor and his self respect, but he refuses to be another casualty of war, so he's doing what he needs to do to get back to the desert and redeem himself in the eyes of his country and himself. Stuart's life has always centered around his duty to his country, leaving him little time for anything else, especially love. He has always set a clear path in his life - one that focuses on being a Marine and defending the helpless. But at this time, Stuart is the one in need of assistance, but he has to be willing to accept the help and admit he has a problem, which isn't easy for this independent solider.

Mariska Heron felt an undeniable connection to Stuart in their one brief encounter; in fact, she felt so strongly about her need to help him that she hops on a plane and heads into a situation that she knows nothing about. Even when it seems Stuart's path is not headed towards her, Mariska can't help but want to be near him and ease his pain. She's a calming presence to Stuart, and he finds that he's just as desperate to be near the light that she exudes regardless of his claim of having no room for love.

But in order for Stuart to realize that it's okay to change paths and try something new, he's going to have to face the darkness that surrounds him and find a way through it without feeling like he is less a man because he can no longer be the solider he once was. The fight on the battlefield may be where he wants to be, but the fight for his life, his sanity, and his self worth is a hell of a lot more important; he just has to be willing to let other people in and see that a woman can be an asset instead of a liability.

Stuart and Mariska's attraction may have been instantaneous, but in order for anything to develop beyond a physical relationship, they're both going to have to fight against every preconceived notion that Stuart has had in terms of what it means to be a man. It's not going to be a battle easily won, but it's clear that Mariska wants to be claimed by Stuart, so she'll do whatever it takes to make that happen - even if it means walking away and giving him the opportunity to decide which battle he's willing to fight for.

I absolutely adored One to Leave. I'll admit, though, in the beginning of the story, I was cursing Tia Louise out a bit with Stuart's interaction with Nikki, but Tia quickly put my fears at bay. For as much of an ass Stuart is, Tia provides the insights readers need to understand his attitude and his single minded objective. He's an honorable man and that is clearly shown throughout the course of the text. I loved Mariska. She's such a kind hearted soul who tries to see the best in everyone. She's feisty and spirited and she takes risks and lets her heart lead her. She's exactly what Stuart needs and deep down he knows that and that's exactly why she scares the hell out of him.

Tia Louise's One to Hold series just keeps getting better and better, which is exactly what I would expect to occur as she delves deeper into her characters' psyches and shapes and molds her characters into revealing who they truly are. There's still a lot more of these characters' stories to tell and I can't wait to see where Tia takes them as the series continues.

"Sometimes it takes more courage to give up one dream for a new one." ~ Mariska

Minor spoilers alert!!!

Another sexy, feel good contemporary romance in the One To Hold series! I liked how author, Tia Louise mixed in some humor and plenty of steamy scenes to balance out the more serious issues of Stuart’s secret addiction to pain meds, his identity crisis and his steadfast reluctance to commit to a romantic relationship. In addition to Mariska and Stuart's POVs, this novel also features multiple POVs from a few of the series returning characters like Derek, Patrick, Elaine and even Nikki.

'My lips moved to her cheek, and I held myself over her. "Stuart wouldn't be lost if he had this." Derek
Derek’s concern for his business partner and former Marine buddy, Stuart Knight was touching and sincere. I loved how Melissa understood his need to go after his friend and offer his support.

'Stuart Knight had locked his heart up tight, but I was determined to break in and steal it.' Mariska
I found Mariska’s quirky, passionate, vibrant, youthful and determined personality quite charming. She trusts her instincts about Stuart and follows him to his uncle’s ranch after a brief introduction and a disturbingly psychic dream. Their connection is immediate, but Stuart stubbornly fights against it. They give in to their attraction quickly and fall into a very passionate but tempestuous relationship.

I loved the discussion that Stuart’s uncle Bill and Mariska had about how long it can take to break a colt because it was analogous to Mariska and Stuart’s stormy relationship. Bill gives her wonderful encouragement at the end of their conversation.

‘I pictured Stuart like one of those wild horses, running free, refusing to take shelter, being injured…
Bill pushed away from the fence and turned to me. “I’ve been watching this phenomenon for years. It takes patience, a gentle hand, and a lot of love.”
I squinted up at him. “Patience is the hardest part.”
“Yep.” He looked past me at the horizon. “But I think you’ve got what it takes.”

'I had no strategy for Mariska. She intoxicated me like nothing I’d ever experienced.' Stuart
I liked Stuart’s quick desire to protect and possess Mariska despite his misgivings about not wanting to have emotional ties or someone back home who’d expect letters. He had his plan for kicking his addiction to pain medication. Fighting the push and pull of his attraction to Mariska was entirely another matter.

“Time passes, situations change. Mom never expected Dad to be killed, but it happened. Now she’s looking at a new path.” His hazel eyes cut to mine. “You’ve got to see when it’s time to change paths, start something new.” Patrick
I love Patrick’s advice to Stuart. It gets him to think about how being with Mariska actually made him feel happy for the first time since he left the military, that she could be the someone new he could serve and protect.

“You loved me when I wasn’t strong enough to love myself, let alone you.”
“I had no choice,” I smiled, kissing him back. “I saw you and my soul came to life inside me. All the reason no one was ever good enough made sense. They weren’t you.”

Stuart finally gets his head out of his bum and embraces his feelings for Mariska and just in time for his brother, Patrick’s wedding.

Be sure to read the epilogue from Elaine’s POV and the bonus chapter from Patrick’s POV at the end. I loved Patrick's reaction to Elaine's fashion show. And their wedding vows were so perfectly matched.
